Dropped by here today to get a quick key made. Parking lot had plenty of space and I appreciate that the entrance has two ways to come in- both roads can become hectic. The first thing I noticed was about 3 employees asking me what I needed help with. Very kind but a little much. I stated I just needed a key made and one guy joked that he could also talk to me about grills if I was interested. Very friendly. A little overly but hey it was nice to have lots of help. The key process was super easy. I was a bit disappointed to learn copies here are more expensive than my local hardware store ($5 for two vs $4 for two) so next time I will just support local. Overall it was a clean and friendly place. I noticed a lot here that was way more than normal store prices but it has its niche. read more

Young ACE Hardware has an expanded new location with perhaps 40% more inventory. Much friendlier and accessible help is readily available than at the large mega stores. A pleasant place to shop, my preferred source for home repair and maintenance items. read more

RIP-OFF PRICING. I realize smaller stores have to charge more than the big-boxers, e.g. Lowes. However, the other day at Ace Hardware, South Asheville I was charged $13 for a 4-lb. bag ($3.25 plb) of HolyTone Azelea fertilizer. Just now, I saw at Lowes (regular, not sale price) a 27-lb bag for $23 ($1.17 plb). How does Ace justify this highway robbery? I will reduce my visits to Ace in the future. I will also post this complaint on consumer websites. Consumers need to be warned. read more

Bought a brand new chainsaw on Saturday. It never worked properly and by Sunday wouldn't even start. Tried to return it and they wouldn't let me. They told me I had to wait until Tuesday for a mechanic to look it over. I asked for a store manager and they brought in Jeff who never even tried to help me. Just kept stating that it was the store policy. I told him I would never use Ace again and he did not care at all. I would not recommend the store to anyone. Amazon will take them over very soon. read more

Went to this Ace because the other one I stopped at didn't have the right service kit for my Stihl weed eater. All the other Ace Hardware stores has these stocked WITH the weed eaters. Ask the cashier if they had any, she called someone on the radio. A tall, lanky guy with a store radio but NO IDENTIFICATION AS A STORE EMPLOYEE walks over and advices me they don't make service kits for weed eaters they just sell individual parts. Told him the Ace in Mills River along with Meade Tractor has Stihl weed eater service kits well his smart ass comment of "just go there then" and turns and walks off. Needless to say I'll never enter that store location again. Go back and drink your coffee asshole! read more

Okay, my shopping list was non-skid rug pads, nails for picture-hanging, hand soap, pickles, ham hocks, and guitar strings. I was out of luck on the last two but Ace nailed it (pun intended) on the rest including some of the best bread-and-butter pickles I've ever had. Thanks, Ace! Oh, and the hand soap was plum. Really?! Horrible customer service, employees act like robots that can't think for themselves and all the items I have purchased there can be found much cheaper elsewhere. I support small local businesses for the better customer service but this store falls short. I make special trips to shop here but I will not any longer. read more

You would think that having this store close in S Asheville would be nice but they are hardly ever open. After work it becomes a race to get there before they close and the race is rarely won. They pretty much force you to go to Lowe's. read more

Always willing to help you find something. Store often has odd items not found at Lowe's/Home Depot. Prices are a little higher than other outlets. Ace sells a large line of Stihl gasoline tools but no one in the store is well-trained in the brand. When I asked staff about Stihl weedeater accessories, I got three differing opinions, a complex brand spreadsheet was consulted numerous times by the staff and I was ultimately sold what ended up being the wrong part from my equipment. Stihl spreadsheet was wrong? Not likely in this case. Will continue shopping at Ace Hardware but not for power equipment. read more

There is always someone available to assist with advice or show the way to the item that you are looking for (from one special screw to a pottery planter). The staff's helpfulness is much appreciated by this writer who does not know a screw driver from a hammer. read more

They are so good - always helpful and friendly and for anyone not very handy they are the place to go if you have a question about how to solve a household problem. The staff is always friendly and helpful. When my daughter bought her own home, I told her to use ACE as a go to place. It's far superior to the big box stores and you don't have to buy a dozen of whatever. You can usually buy only one and if that is all you need, you won't have 11 other whatsits hanging around waiting for that particular problem to happen again. Great place. Hannah read more

I was told that Ace Hardware sold Stihl chainsaws and serviced them. I asked someone for help with chainsaws and was told the chainsaws were in the front of the store. I said I needed help with the Stihl saws and was told again they were in the front of the store on the right and was pointed in that direction. I sensed they thought I should be able to figure it out on my own, so I went to the Stihl chain saws and clearly recognized there were several sizes with various metrics I did not understand and smallest was around $ 200.00. So I decided to go somewhere else where I could get some educational help if I were going to spend this amount of money, and I will also find store that services them. I usually try to support the local store. read more

Wouldn't take a local check for $15 without a driver's license for ID. I understand a policy for needing ID for a check but when they refuse a sale for a lousy $15 purchase because I left my wallet at home, I think a little flexibility in this case would have been warranted. Now that I have my wallet, I think I'll make my purchase elsewhere. read more

After years I have been going into this business I have to say that they have nearly everything you need for the job. When you walk in you see the neatness and the layout of everything just perfect.
