On October 16 2024 I went to visit the Ace hardware store located on Rosedale Highway. I could've gone to any other hardware store, or in the Eastside of Bakersfield Ace Hardware stores, but I chose to go there. I had some shopping to do on that side of town so it made sense. I live near the plaza mall, if that helps you figure how far I drove. Due to my diligence on trying to find a good carbon monoxide detector, from what I gathered Ace Hardware was the only place that carry the good ones, by First Alert. I knew they didn't have any in stock, and I knew I was going to need some help. Upon arriving at Ace Hardware, Ethan and Avery were quick to help me! I just needed to give those two a shout out! They had a kindness about them, professionalism, a can do attitude, patience, promptness, product awareness, Multi tasking ability, a can-do attitude, and many other things that I may have failed to mention. I am a disabled customer, and a senior citizen, and I value these things. I don't appear to be that when in person, but when that did not dissuade those Etahn and Avery!. They gave me valued customer feeling!. They did not judge a book by its cover which I do appreciate! Ace Hardware, please continue hiring more people like Ethan and Avery, but don't ever let these two persons out of your employment, OR leave your company! They are an asset to your company! Had to make a small unplanned sprinkler repair, just need to find my PVC glue for one fitting. I found the Christy's red hot blue glue I was looking for , what a relief. i tried to open it, the glue had dried it was no good, I was bummed. I really didn't want to drive down to Home Depot on at Saturday morning. That's when it hit me my local True Value Hardware store on Rosedale Hwy. is less than a mile away. Ran out to my truck i was there in 6 minutes no traffic easy parking nobody was up front when I entered, went over to the plumbing section grabbed a small can of Christy's 4 oz glue made my way up to the checkout it wasn't busy. The young man who rang me up said $8.66 I was shocked but I needed it bad. Last time I remembered buying some it was somewhere in the 4 dollar range. I waited to write this review, hoping that the first couple times I visited this store, that it was just a fluke. Today I realize that it's not. The customer service at this store is terrible. No one offers assistance, and when you do ask for help, they don't know where anything is or what they have anyway! I can't think of a more important job for someone at a hardware store than offering assistance, knowing what they have, and knowing where it is. Such a bummer. This is Bakersfield, people! Just love finding little things here that take way to long to find at the big stores. This is our go to place for nuts and bolts, etc. Every now and then though we find a deal we can't pass up. This past week we went in for some nuts and bolts and they had some 4ft entry way pre-lit trees for only $10! They look so good on our front porch. read more

So I bought an item from another Ace Hardware which was in another city. Tries to return it here and they would not accept it even though I had the receipt and everything. Now, this could just be how the business model is, where you must return items from the original store, but that is the dumbest thing ever. I will never buy from any Ace Hardware store again. I love the feel of older hardware stores. Like the good ol days before the big box hardware type places. The best part for me is the SMELL. It smells like a hardware store and not in a bad way. Like my dad's tool box that brings back memories. Parking in the lot was easy and right out front. No walking a million miles to the entry. No hot dog carts or taco stands. No huge shopping carts to block the aisles. 2 people in a short span of time asked if we needed help! Love this! We just needed a wall plate but walked every aisle to check out what they had as I had not been in here in a few years. Some things on the shelves had faded boxes indicating they had been here for a LONG time! The store was pricey too, for hardware. It is a smaller place so inventory, not huge. They had limited decor for Xmas which surprised me a bit so, not a lot of seasonal items. Cool candy and chocolate at the front cash, ones you do not see every day. Ace is usually our go to store when we need something we can't find anywhere else. But on our recent trip I needed help matching paint so I called ahead to be sure they did samples and when I asked the young man for assistance with the sample he said they didn't have any. I told him I had called and was told they did so then he checked and found several sample sizes so I gave him two of their color cards to match but he could only do one and couldn't find the other. There were two other workers available but he kept leaving to assist other people and then someone came in to give another worker a free tv so he just left and went out to help bring it in! I've never received such poor customer service at an Ace store. read more

This store has a good selection of products and supplies for simple home repair projects. I have bought things here for at least 20 years. For the last five years or so the service from employees is not good. If the customer is such an inconvenience, then what would this store be WITHOUT customers? I always try support my local hardware store instead of going to the big box stores, but after this experience, I will be shopping elsewhere. I need a couple drawer slides for one of my kitchen cabinets, so I figured I would order them on the ACE website and take advantage of the curbside pick up service they advertise online. I called the store first to verify they had them in stock, which they did. I placed the order online before noon, expecting a Ready for Pick Up email later that day or the next morning. When I hadn't received anything by the next afternoon, I called the store for an update. I was told that the person that handles the online orders, Michael, had left for the day and to call back the next morning. I called at 11am the next day and was told that Michael was not in and they couldn't find my order paperwork. My wife was already headed to the store as she was out running errands, so I asked if she could just show the email receipt and pick up the items. He said he would have to call his manager and get back to me. I asked if the parts were ready and if she could just go in and pay for them and I would cancel my online order. He said that would be fine. What should have been a simple transaction turned into an avoidable hassle. read more

The customer service at this Ace Hardware store was beyond my expectations. I drove over 3.5 hours away from home to pick up a large item that was not available at any of my local Ace Hardware stores or available for delivery to my home. It was busy but the lady at the cash register asked if I needed assistance. She immediately took care of my pick up order and another employee carried and placed the item into my car. I've visited a few of my local Ace Hardwares stores only to experience incompetent employees who can't seem to locate a simple item, dismissive or inattentive staff, and substandard inventory. So surprised to see the less than positive reviews on this store; I love this little store and try to buy here versus the big boxes down the street whenever I can. I've been going here for almost 18 years (there didn't used to be much out here) and I still love it. Minimal selection, in that they don't have 10 kinds of each item, but they have all kinds of little oddball things and I enjoy perusing the shelves. Well I have been going to Ace Hardware for over 15 years now. Since my vehicle is in the auto shop for repairs I thought, it would be nice to ride my bike. While entering the store the worker informed my that I could not come in with my backpack. I told him that I could not leave it outside because I am on my bike and for other reasons. He said ok come in. Well the Manager made contact with me and told me the same thing. Really. I asked, do you tell women to leave there purses out too. I felt like I was treated like a criminal. I needed to get rid of the weeds. Going to the garage, I find my weed wacker does not work due to a cracked fuel line and ruptured ball primer. I called Ace and Blake tells me he can repair my weed wacker and it would be ready in two days. I brought it over at 2:00 PM. At 3:30 Blake calls me up and tells me it is fixed! I've been shopping here for 15 years. The male employee working the check out today at about 12pm was terrible. I asked him if you carried a product I was unfamiliar with. He stated if it was there it would be in isle 16, but was certain it wasn't there. I walked to isle 16, hoping to find a similar product, which I would of gladly bought. As I walked I could hear his condescending comments out loud, how he was pretty sure it wasn't there, but he could be wrong, he said a few other unnecessary remarks. I've been going to Ace Hardware stores since I was a kid and I've always liked their customer service and the fact that it's locally owned is always a plus. That being said I shopped around town looking for a Traeger Grill and Ace Hardware always had them stock. I purchased the Texas Pro grill and they threw in two complimentary bags of wood pellets, but they do that for all Traeger models. The cashier gave me a few helpful tips about the grill as well. I'd definitely recommend this place to anybody looking for good customer service. read more
