I love Bargain Box and what they stand for. They have helped clothe over 3,000 children for school. These kids would otherwise not have what they need. Some even requested just underwear that fit. Their needs were simple, and with the community donating wonderful items Bargain Box was able to make it happen. They are run by volunteers, and every penny goes to clothes for children in need. Everyone that works there is friendly and welcoming. It's so clean and inviting. This is how you run a thrift store, unlike the ones we recently went to in Lancaster, charging outrageous amounts for used things they got for free. The store is clean and well organized, and I appreciate how everything is sorted by category it makes browsing easy. But some of the prices are honestly pretty crazy for a thrift store. Most of the items are donated, yet a lot of things are marked at eBay level prices, which makes it hard for people who come here looking for affordable options. With winter here, men's jackets especially feel overpriced. It's disappointing because thrift stores are supposed to help the community, not make things unaffordable. Hoping they reconsider their pricing. read more

I love the mission of this second hand store. It is run by volunteers, ladies in the Assistance League of Bakersfield. The proceeds go to purchase new clothing for local underprivileged children through Operation School Bell. Hours are 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. (Holidays they are closed and they take a break in the summers.) They accept donations on Monday mornings I believe. Brands sold are Chicos, Talbots, Liz Claiborne, for women. For men there is Polo by Ralph Lauren, Tommy Bahama and many other brands. Some items still have tags on them. Never been worn. There is an assortment of jewelry, houseware items, wall art, some furniture, linens, sporting goods, children's clothes, and accessories for women/men. I highly recommend stopping by. read more

Great thrift store well organized great prices and a wonderful cause for the children. The selection was organized into junior, women's and men's which made it really easy to navigate through the jewels of a thrift store. They also had a nice display case full of costume jewelry that looked really interesting although it isn't anything I'm interested in. Thy clothes were so nicely displayed and clean looking. Did I mention the prices? Yes their prices are great for a thrift store, not overly priced. I really didn't check out much of the rest of the inventory such as housewares, but as I recall there was something on the other side of the store that may had something to that kind of stuff. Few things: -Very organized boutique like environment. -Reasonable prices on very CLEAN higher end items. -Very friendly store staff (all volunteer). -Closes early. Tip: Because the store staff are volunteers and typically older women, watch your receipt as mistakes as your being rung up happen quite frequently. Super rude. Walked in and was literally there for less than a minute when one of the sales associates yells out,"We're closing!" We were the only people in the store, myself and my sister. Another woman who was near us says,"we'll lock you in all night." Mind you, we did know the store closed at 3 and it was 2:55. We were practically chased out of there, but what made it even worse..... As we walked out and got into our car a man was walking up to the door and was let right in. That is very rude and tacky costumer service. All costumers should be treated the same no matter their gender, race or age. read more

I love this thrift shop! The lovely ladies who run this establishment are super helpful and very attentive to their customers needs. The items for sale are very reasonably priced and are a much better quality than Goodwill!!!! No junk here!! They offer clothing, nick backs, , art work and lots of books. This is a very nice store that is particular about its offerings. I got a very nice sweater here that I would have paid $80 for in a store - and scored it for $14. Selected is limited, but they appear to be picky about what they sell, which is good, if you're looking for something nice. read more

My husband and I had just come from another huge thrift store where we didn't find anything nice enough to bring home to decorate our new place. Even though Bargain Box is much smaller, we realized right away that it was a classy thrift boutique. We found several items for our kitchen which seemed to be unused. One item was a brand new French Press coffee press which we have seen at coffee shops for almost $40. We got this one for $10 because everything in the store is 50% off this week! After thinking it through, we decided to go back tomorrow to purchase a beautiful poster-sized black and white photograph of Paris. Can't wait to see it on our apartment wall! read more
