    Wall of Zippers

We've been coming here for our small business supply needs for a few years now. If you have a wholesaler permit, they don't charge tax. I can get lost looking at all the neat stuff. I always visit the Zipper Wall. It makes me feel happy inside! Street parking only.

    My new Juki serger

I was on the hunt for a particular Juki serger and saw this store had it in stock! Yippee!! I finally had time to stop by and purchase the machine but was told by one of the workers they didn't have it anymore. He tried to offer other machines to me, but I had my heart set on that particular machine. Heartbroken, I wandered the store in search of something similar until another worker came by to assist me and offered to look in the back. He found it!! It was the last one! I bought that machine in a heartbeat! That guy literally made my day! I am a forever customer thanks to that one worker who went out of his way to go look for me! Thank you! Aside from my positive experience, this place has everything you can think of from a variety of sewing machines to machine parts and sewing supplies. I actually wasn't expecting to see so much stuff. The only downside is the hours of operation. If you work a full-time job, it might be difficult to get here before they close. I wanted to stop by on the weekends because my job conflicts with their hours, but they aren't open on the weekends. I had to wait for a holiday to visit this store.

ACE, you've got all the aces to my fashionista heart deck

Admit it -- you've always wanted to design your own clothes. And no, ripping the collar wider on your old undershirts to make off-the-shoulder blouses doesn't count. Seriously though, if you're sick of cheaply made crap from American Apparel and want to make some cheap crap of your own -- on your own machine, and of your own design -- say HELLO to the greatest sewing machine store, ever! ACE Sewing Machine Co is owned and operated by an older Korean man who's glad to literally spend all day talking to you about the machines in his store (his family works there, too) and how to use them, even if it's obvious you don't really plan on buying anything. He'll also tell you great stories about customers from all over the world, and life in Korea if you've got the time and interest (I know I do!) Fashion design students looking for advice on how to make a difficult garment should come here for the scoop! Literally everything even remotely related to sewing machines is available here, and at the low prices you've come to expect from a Downtown LA store. Yeah, so that plastic yardstick that set you back $8.99 at Mood Fabrics or wherever? At ACE you can get it for $3. Forget about cheap Walmart and Target sewing machines -- ACE has only the BEST machines available, including industrial Juki machines, which are standard equipment at Otis Design School, LA Trade Tech, and FIDM. Sergers, too! So yes -- you can make your own jeans at home, if you've got the talent, patience, and desire. -- If you're looking for a small but still high quality home machine, you can get a basic "home Juki" for about $250. If you want the solid metal industrial kind that is used throughout the surrounding Garment District, you're looking at about $550 -- but that INCLUDES the desk (!). That's the one I bought, and I love it. Maybe I don't want to MARRY it, but yeah, you get the pic, baby. Everything comes with a long, in-store warranty, independent from the year-long manufacturer's warranty on most of the equipment. But even if your beloved industrial Juki breaks down two years after you bought it, the owner will still fix it for you -- and for a really low price ("Thank GOD!" said the broke fashion design student). Come to ACE Sewing Machine Co, please -- you'll be reminded the moment you come in just why you love fashion, and why you want to make the world dress well. Lots of cafes are nearby, including Freli Frozen Yogurt, so it's like two fungasms with one stone. Makes no sense? Whatever. Just go, okay?

Pretty terrible experience. I tried to set up an order I was…read morehoping to pick up 5 days later. This was already considered a rush order that came with additional fees. After spending almost an hour setting up an order on their website (with an AI assistant constantly trying to push stuff on you), there was no confirmation email. I called the next day to see if the order got through. A sleepy gentlemen answered the phone and mumbled apathetically that he'd check and get back to me. He never did. I left a message the next day, asking for a call back to find out if my order had come through. I got a text on my phone the next day, reading: "Thank you for reaching out to The Best Screen Printing company. Please send us your design, when you need it by, size breakdown and quantity for your order at sales@tbsp.la to get a free quick quote.". So we were back to square one, with 3 days just out the window. I emailed them and explained that I had submitted an order through their website days earlier. They emailed back and said they wouldn't honor that order. They told me if I wanted to pick up any t-shirt by Monday, they'd use a lower-quality (!) t-shirt and charge an additional $20 above the additional rush order fees they had already added. I never write reviews, but here I felt compelled to.

This was the first time I interacted with her, and will certainly be the last. At first, she seemed flustered. We went over *exactly* how we wanted to the monogram to look; size, color, location. When the day came for pick up, I was astonished as to how wrong the product came out. The font was triple the size we agreed on and we described, and the location was in the middle of the product (versus along the edge, which was what was explicitly requested). A few back and forths, she admitted to incorrectly monogramming the product and gave a discount of $16 for the monogram, but refused to acknowledge that the product was ruined or damaged. Her exact words "damaged means the product does not work, it works, the zipper works." I explained that the product was handmade, that another comparable product can be obtained in an expedited fashion so that it can be ready for Christmas, and discussed that we would only feel right for her to reimburse us for the product that was ruined. She vehemently opposed any amicable solution and lost a customer for life. B aware of shady businesses that cannot take ownership for their mistakes and errors.
