I came to Ackermans a couple years ago to have a necklace fixed. It was fixed quickly, but the service was awful. I planned to NEVER return. However, last week a friend of mine asked me to pick up a watch for her and I agreed. Again, the service was awful. When I walked in, I was not greeted by anyone. There were no other customers in the store. Everyone looked at me like they had never seen a black person before. There was one gentleman in particular, heavy set white male with a ponytail who kept looking at me with "disgust". Although we made eye contact several times, he didnt acknowledge me either. I will NEVER return to this store and will discourage others from giving them their business. read more

I have to say I went into this visit hesitant. I saw on Yelp that there was a slew of 5-star reviews and mentions that all work was done in house, and I was sold. I requested a quote for some work that I needed done, and the business replied within hours to let me know when I could stop in for an in-person consult. I have two family rings, the wedding band and the engagement ring, that have been passed down from my great-grandma and is intended for my use now that we're considering marriage more. I was very nervous to trust anyone with these pieces, as we've been burned with services locally in the past, but trusted them especially after arriving and chatting with everyone and seeing the store. I worked with Sharon, a lovely blonde woman who was very knowledgeable in old jewelry. Upon looking at each ring, she explained my options for resizing and fixing the thin bands at the bottom due to age. I was given a quote that was identical to the one received by my parents in another state, but they were told the rings would have to be fused together to be saved which was mildly disappointing when I was first told. Sharon, however, told me that she could reshank them and keep them separate without causing extra liability by keeping them apart! I was absolutely stoked. Sharon then told me a lot of history about the rings as she looked at them, from age, history of the cuts and style of the diamonds, and was able to assess the level of care put into the rings over the years. This was a really cool touch for something special, I never would have known they originated in the early 1900's! I paid in full and gave my contact information and was informed it would be ready in a few days. After I finished with that, I worked with another associate to help me find an affordable chain for my citrine Crystal and they even helped me put the chains on and used a high level of care when helping me find the right chain, and didn't give me too hard of a time when I said I often shower with the necklace on. So far, no funky discoloration so I'm pretty happy with that separate interaction as well! There was some issue with the call not coming through when it was ready on the earliest estimated date, but when I called to inquire, they were very sweet. The woman, perhaps Kayla, told me that the ring was ready and I could come in. I met again with Sharon for pickup and brought my receipt and it was a smooth process. They made sure it fit comfortably and I was happy before sending me on my way, ready to get engaged. Honestly, I couldn't say anything nicer about this experience. I was so nervous to trust anyone with these heirlooms, but they proved themselves with the high level of care used to bring my precious piece back to glory. Highly recommend to anyone looking to buy a beautiful new piece or restore one that you've loved for so long. I tried not to look around too much due to my finances, but they had some stunning pieces in the cases as well, even the birthstone jewelry was jaw dropping! A few months back when I thought about proposing to my girlfriend, I did some research on about five jewelry stores in the Tampa Bay Area. They all advertise like crazy and it is sort of hard to not only pick where to go, but where to start. I started at Ackerman Jewelers and everything from there on out was anything but hard. It was so easy and it ended up being the only jewelry store I visited. I walked in on a weekday morning with no intention to purchase anything. I just wanted to look around and see what was out there and explore my options. When I walked in, I was sort of intimidated by how big the place was and I just felt out of place and wanted to get it over with. Linda introduced herself to me and started asking me questions to find the best ring possible for my girlfriend. She was very personable, explained everything to me without making me feel confused, never pushed me on any product and once I told her my budget, she never showed me anything above it. I really respected that. She showed me different settings along with brands and just tons of options without being pushy. I really liked the first ring she showed me and everything after that just didn't seem as good as that one. I compared it to probably 20 rings or so and ended up putting a small amount down to hold the ring due to the fact I really liked it and it felt right. Like I said, I had no intentions of buying a ring that day, which is why I just put the small down payment down. I also did that because I knew I didn't want to go anywhere else and it would force me back to Ackerman, as I really wanted to make my purchase there. I emailed Linda a few weeks prior to me picking up the ring to have the ring appraised, cleaned and ready to go for my pickup date. I got to the store and everything was ready for me. I purchased the insurance through a third party right there on site, which was not only easy, but very convenient, simple, and very affordable. Towards the end of my visit, Thunderbug walked in to pick up some promotional items for a Lightning watch party. I was able to take a picture with him and also ring the bell that wishes good luck for my engagement (and hopefully the Lightning during their Stanley Cup run). When it's time to purchase wedding bands or anything else jewelry related, there is no doubt that I will go back to Ackerman Jewelers. For more than 10 years, I've tried to find a jeweler to redesign my grandfather's gold and diamond ring so that it would have a comfort-type band (the hollow space under the diamond would always cause irritation from soap and other chemicals). No jeweler would even try, for fear they might damage the diamonds in the ring. (The diamond was from my grandmother's engagement ring, circa 1930.) I tried Ackerman Jewelers. Wow! When I explained my situation at Ackermans, they were initially reluctant for all the reasons I'd heard before, but Ron Ackerman stepped in, listened, understood the sentimental value and how much I wanted to be able to actually wear the ring, not just keep it in a box. We discussed the project, and he told me he was confident his team of jewelers could do it. He quoted a very fair price for all of the work and the gold to be added. I just picked up my grandfather's ring, and I'm thrilled! Ackerman Jewelers were able to do what at least four other jewelers wouldn't even attempt, saying it was "impossible." The ring is perfect. So I called ahead of time to see if they would do a watch band repair and put a band guard on my dad's wedding band. Spoke to Michelle and she was so nice on the phone. So I went there and was immediately greeted and directed to speak to the repair department. I spoke to George and he was very helpful. They were able to put the band guard on my dad's wedding band and fix the watch band in under 10 minutes! Cost $5 to fix the watch band and zero for the wedding band guard. What was nice about this experience is that I didn't feel like I was being pressured or coerced into making a purchase. All I did was go to get something fixed and was treated like a customer. That is rare because when you usually go to a jewelry store you are treated like an outsider or like they just don't want to talk to you at all, more like being prejudged. NOT HERE! I didn't know how much I needed a jeweler in Tampa until I went to Ackerman. No like seriously, you're probably thinking "I don't need a jeweler, I don't have serious jeweler needs", but you're wrong. You need Ackerman. I first went to Ackerman when my husband and I were looking for wedding rings. We didn't want anything fancy- nothing custom and we were on a tight budget- so we had gone to all the chain retailers first. But they were all so pushy, and I hated every minute. My friend recommended Ackerman, and from the minute I stepped in, I felt extremely comfortable here. They don't work on commission here, so they're not looking to pressure you into anything. But they were so FRIENDLY and HELPFUL that all I wanted to do was buy the rings from them. After I brought my husband back the next day and we negotiated some prices, we got out of there with our perfect wedding bands for cheaper than Kay or Jared or any of those places. Know that with a purchase of their rings, the warranty plan, which is an extra $100-ish everywhere else, is included. They stand behind their products. You lose a diamond, they replace it. You want it redipped in white gold, they do it. Resized? Free. Engraved? Free. Just drop it off with Dina (who is also lovely) and they handle the rest. My engagement ring was not from here, but they appraised it along with my wedding band when I had them soldered together (also free). After all the wedding stuff died down, I also brought in a necklace that needed to be restrung. Done in a few days. We came in based on yelp reviews and were not disappointed. Recently engaged, I needed my ring sized down. We bought the ring elsewhere, but Ackerman Jewelers were so knowledgeable. They could tell the specifications about the ring and diamond immediately and I could tell that they were sincere and trustworthy. They did the resizing for $40 and polished it for me as well. As far as I can tell, I can't see where they adjusted it at all, the ring looks flawless! They were really quick too. They said usually it takes about a day or so to resize but since we were engaged only a few days, they had it down for us in a few hours! That was really sweet. They also have a huge selection of rings and jewelry. The saleswoman came up and was showing us different options for wedding bands and was really just trying to help us and give us options. Buying an engagement ring can be a daunting task, and actually finding a good place to purchase a ring is even more difficult. Pete was involved from the very beginning. He was patient and helped keep it a secret as my girlfriend and I were casually looking at jewelry. Once the setting was chosen I was assisted in picking out the diamond. As I hadnt planned on "popping the question" for another few months and the diamond still needed to be set, Pete took my business card, a deposit and held onto my ring and diamond. On the day I planned on proposing, I stopped by Ackerman's to pick up my ring. I was one of the few customers in the store. The entire staff was very excited that my Friday would be spent with a proposal dinner. The staff wished me luck and Pete advised he would be more than happy to assist when it came time to choose a wedding band. That was a year ago and my fiancee and I did go back to Ackerman's for our wedding bands. We were assisted this time in choosing customized rings and engraving. The service received is personally tailored and you really feel as if you are part of a family. I have never felt pressured and the staff, especially Pete, are generous with their time. As I walked out of the store the other day, I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Ackerman.
