I needed my cushions redone on my 26 year old sectional. My sectional was a very well made piece of furniture and still in good shape. I couldn't and didn't want to buy a new one. I had Tod look them over to see if I could replace them with new form and he said he could. He measured them out and ordered the form and replace them with the new and made them look and feel exactly like they when they were brand new again. The price was very affordable for me. I have just used Ackerman's for the second time, and they did an outstanding job both times. In 2014, I had them strip a sofa down to the frame, then replace the cushions and stuffing and recover it with new fabric. In Sept. 2017, I had them do the same thing to a loveseat. In 2014, they recovered the sofa with a striped fabric that I had purchased through my designer. Todd, the manager, was very thoughtful about the process, asking me many questions about how I wanted the stripes to be centered on the cushions and arms, etc - details that I never would have thought about. He also asked how firm I wanted the cushions to be. That's sort of an unknown, because cushions will start out firmer than you might want but naturally will get a bit softer over time. Not being sure, I just chose the medium firmness. Ackerman's did a beautiful job on this sofa. In Sept. 2017, I hired them to recover a loveseat that I use at my office. This time, I purchased the fabric through them. Todd called the fabric company to see if they might have any sales coming up, to try and get me the best price. After my first experience with him, I trusted him enough to lend him the key to my office so that he could pick up, recover and return the loveseat while I was away on vacation. He came out an extra time before he picked the loveseat up so that we could confirm all the details about this piece. He did pick up the piece while I was away and finished it early, so that it was ready for me when I got back. Again, they did a beautiful job. It turns out that the medium cushion on the sofa that I'd had him do in 2014 felt a bit too soft for me now - which was not their responsibility. But, Todd offered to re-stuff the two sofa cushions for no charge while he was recovering my loveseat. I accepted that generous offer and now the cushions feel just right. I searched long and hard for somebody to refinish and re-upholster my antique couch. I have to admit I was very leary. I took a chance after finding this company on the internet. We called and then went out to their location which is pretty far. I have to admit I was impressed. They took the time to give me a lengthy tour of the refinishing shop and upholstery shop which are both separate but connected in the same building. It was very clean and organized which I was really suprised at. Both the upholsterer and one of the main refinishers had an impressive background. Both had years experience and the refinisher use to work with pianos. I just got my furniture back last week and I have to say they did a fantastic job. The attention to detail was top notch. I also like that they offer pick-up/drop-off service in Chicago and do quite a bit of insurance adjustment repairs. I have a couple more pieces they are now refinishing so I will update this review once I get the furniture back to give my feedback. So far I have been extremely pleased. read more

Could not be more pleased! Ackerman's restored the wood finish and fixed damage on 2 wood framed chairs. And their reupholster work was top notch too. Had these chairs redone somewhere else 15 years back and while I paid a higher price, the work was not as precise. I called Ackerman's to see if they could repair a broken recliner. I was able to reach them on a Saturday and they said they could be out on Monday. I was very excited to hear that they would actually take the time to come out to my house to fix the recliner. Most people just have to replace their furniture because they can not find anyone to fix it. Todd came out and assessed the situation. He then loaded up the recliner, which was part of a sectional, and said he would have it back to me within a week. He delivered the recliner with a week and a half and it looked new. He had even take the time to re-stain part of the leather that looked worn. Great company! It's good to know that I have someone to call that will do a great job. read more

I would agree with the previous reviewer. They do not need business. We had a sofa that was supposed to be reupholstered. They gave us an estimate and were supposed to come to fix the sofa but no return visit or phone calls. It is also very irritating that you have to talk to someone in Minnesota everytime you call. read more

I heard about Ackerman's from co-workers so I thought I'd see what they could do about a dining room set that my husband and I had just inherited. After making an appointment through their websites on-line support chat, one of their refinishers came out to my home, well groomed, on-time and courteous. Todd explained that what I had was a Henredon set dated about 1950, he went into detail about the woods, finishes and colors they had used back then and then explained how Ackerman's uses lacquer and dyes to replicate exact factory finishes, I wouldn't have ever known the difference but now I know why fine furniture is so much more expensive! For the chairs we picked out brunschwig fabric from a collection Todd had brought and left at our home- my reluctant husband wanted to at least have some input...right! Six weeks later they delivered my Henredon set, when they placed it back in my dining room I was completely caught off guard, words cannot describe how beautiful the furniture was, the dining table top was a deep rich mahogany gloss, the chairs were finely upholstered with 8-way tied springs and decorative brass nails! My husband is shocked and now I'm the cat's meow! Ackerman's is an amazing company that helped us make decisions through every step and followed through exceeding our expectations. I can't thank my co-workers enough so I'm throwing a dinner party for them! Now, would I recommend Ackerman's to my family and friends, I'll have to think about that- it would be like giving out a favorite cooking recipe. read more

After spending 2 years looking for leather furniture, we were about to give up. Nothing pleased us more than the 2 well made leather couches and ottoman that we already have. Everything we saw was either too long...too wide...too deep. Some of the quality was quite questionable. I found Ackerman's on the internet and we gave them a visit at the shop. We liked what we heard and considered reupholstering in leather. Many people tried to dissuade us as they said no "one does leather anymore!" Well...they were wrong! Our furniture came back better than new! The craftsmen who worked on the project detailed every aspect of the furniture...from top stitching to the brass nail head trim. Granted, it is not a cheap alternative to new furniture, but what we now have is "one of a kind. " Jerry and Todd were easy to work with and we even met the craftsmen who picked up and redelivered our finished set. read more
