If I'm cold, then heat me. If I'm too hot, then AC me. ACme Fresh Market has decent AC, so that's a start. It also has pretty good produce and all kinds of typical grocery store goodies, but the prices aren't really too cheap. If you're going to charge this much you should probably be as good as Wegmans (NY, PA, VA), and Acme is nowhere near that standard. It reminds me more of a Harris Teeter or something. I have been shopping here for years. When I attended college to when I drop by to get some items. What I like about this store (especially in Kent) is the friendly service I get from new and old worker. My friend Courtney works there and she is a testament to awesome people. The tend to have decent sales on there wine and liquor selection for there were items they sold that no one else I knew carried. I tend to only buy what is on sale for the week. This Acme has been around for decades, and corners the market on the neighborhoods closest to the Kent State main campus and downtown Kent. Students who depend on getting around town on foot or by public transport often have to shop here, which is why its higher prices are especially lamentable. On the plus side, it does seem to employ many students and young people who are sharply dressed in their uniforms and generally very courteous and helpful. While visiting Kent, we decided to stop at Acme Supermarket. It feels a little strange reviewing a supermarket, but this one is rather worth the review. I had never been to an Acme before and have to say that I like the layout and how well lit this place is. Some grocery stores are really dim and depressing, but not here. The aisles are very large and spacious and there is an excellent selection of produce, meats, cheese, and all other things. When there, I only purchased a few items as that is all I needed. However, I did take the time to walk around and found that they had a great organic section that rivals some of the competitors in the area. Also, they have a really wonderful floral department that was filled to the brim with blooms. Acme is a really nice place to shop and if I were a resident in Kent, this would be the place that I would be shopping. The meat department is also large and plentiful and they look like they have a good selection of meats--something that is important as well. If you are in the Kent area and need a place to grocery shop, Acme is the place. read more

Kent Acme has relatively helpful staff and a comfortable selection of both items and foods. Decent selection of organic items and alcohol, soda, snacks, and refrigerated/frozen items. (Multiple isle lengths of each) However, stay keen on the deals regarding "x items for $y." On some items, you don't need all 'x' items, but on others you'll be gouged. x5 (12-cans) sodas @ $3.33 was a promotion. If you don't need 60 cans, $5.39 per box. Walmart doesn't care if you buy one box or five for their $3.33 deal. I've also noticed similar pricing situations on meats - such as pork. Keep an eye on how much the Acme card/sales actually save you in comparison to other grocers. Overall, Acme has its uses but don't rely on them for all grocery purchases, unless you've got that looong money. ;) read more

I will never shop at this place ever again. I walked in here one night on the way to my buddies place to get some beer, a young couple walked in 10-15 feet behind me and I didn't think anything of it. I went to the beer cooler they headed off in the completely opposite direction to produce, we never spoke or acknowledged eachother once. I get up to the register with my beer, she scans it and I'm about to pay for it when I'm not kidding you I hear the manager yell from across the store for the cashier not to sell me the beer. He comes over and says that "I know you're buying that beer for those kids" Yes straight up accuses me. I tell him "I've never even seen those people in my life" he responds with "yea right" a few curse words later I'm out the door and will never shop there again. So if you shop there watch out who walks in behind you, apparently you have to here. read more

I barely go to this Acme because it is out of my way, but it is a large store with a large parking lot. It is very clean and usually neat. Employees here are always helpful, but they don't always smile. Go figure. This Acme has everything any other grocery store would have and usually so good deals. Located close to the KSU campus so you will see a lot of diversity here. read more

This store is what i'd call "aggressively average." I'll list it out. The Good: - The liquor store. As a side note, i'm a sponsored artist for a particular liquor brand, and when I emailed the store and asked if they would carry our brand, it was on the shelf three weeks later. Other than that, their booze selection isn't bad. They've got the classics, as well as some more modern and trendy stuff, and even the off-the-wall standards like Ouzo (i'm guessing this is only purchased for kids doing dares or something.) Their prices are also a buck or two cheaper than the other State Liquors close to Kent. - The store has a nifty little organic/gluten-free section, which features pretty much everything Bob's Red Mill has ever made, including their poppy seeds, which are super hard to find. - They have all of the standard grocery brands and items, and some more obscure items like Kraft White American cheese, as well as both salted and unsalted, Ohio-made Amish roll butter. (The local Walmart only carries the salted variant, a little less healthy.) - They actually check the holograms on IDs for alcohol purchases. I've never seen another store take that much care. - Their self-checkouts are very functional and bug-free, and a staff member is always on hand to ring up age-restricted products. It's honestly quicker than going through a regular line even with a case of beer. - Their daily-baked bread is fantastic and super cheap, some are $1 a loaf as long as you don't mind slicing it at home. (I recommend the French bread.) The Bad: - Much of the cashier staff is underage, and if you're buying liquor, you might have to wait a bit for an of-age staff member to ring it up before the regular cashier can ring up the rest of your items. - Their tobacco products are $2-3 more than pretty much every other store in the area. - Some products might be expired. I once got a jar of peanut butter there that expired almost six months earlier. Check the dates on anything perishable. - Even after having a card for almost two years, I have no idea what the Acme card or the fuel rewards card actually do. I've somehow never acquired enough points for it to amount to anything. - Most prices are a dollar or two more than Walmart and Marc's. Overall, the store functions, it's biggest redeeming factor is it being the only liquor store in the middle of a college town. I'd love to know what overall percentage of the money that location makes is alcohol purchases. read more

If I could give no stars, I would!!! Horrible service the lady I needed to help me at the bakery was on her phone, and wouldn't even help me! So then I went and found the manager who sincerely apologized then I finally got help but I got the same girl with a terrible attitude because she got in trouble. It's not my fault! This location has the best selection of beer, vegan and heath foods in this area. Also they run great weekly special and do not exclude the products that are low sugar. Some major chains will exclude the no sugar added products. read more

Dark, expensive, dirty, and below average service. The policing they do about alcohol is true, and correct it usually leads to an impolite manager accusing you in front of the other patrons. But the staff is always impolite on the whole. If they're not on their phones your lucky if they'll look at you. It's a dark, crowded, labyrinthine store that could use a good dusting. read more

The everyday prices on many items at Acme seem high, but the discount prices on most of those items bring them back into line. The service has never been poor, and in fact, I would say that overall in my six years or so shopping here, the service has been substantially above average. Also, they have renovated the store over the past few years and made it less dark and improved the overall shopping experience. Worst grocery store i have ever been to. I frequently shopped here because it was close, even though it is usually overpriced. But I will NEVER shop here again. Their customer service employees are rude and condescending. And I have multiple problems with their produce. Bought apples twice that started rotting in less than a week. It's the closest grocery to my house but I actively avoid this Acme. Their customer service at checkout is consistently abysmal. With a few exceptions, the overall impression is that their cashiering staff would like to be somewhere, anywhere else; like teenagers on family vacation. Often they haven't greeted me as I walked up, this evening when I stopped by the cashier just looked away after she'd scanned my second and last item, saying nothing. Awkward, unfriendly... the Wal-Mart in Ravenna offers a better customer experience than this Acme. If management would address the apathetic culture among their staff, I would shop here. I used to frequent Acme almost every week to pick up whatever I needed, ranging from random items to whole grocery lists to last me until the next visit. Unfortunately, as of recently, most notably since the inclusion of the liquor store, the service declined drastically. I say this only due to how I was spoken to during a particular transaction. As I live in a college town and like to enjoy my weekends, I ended up buying beer one night and a bottle of bourbon the next as I had friends heading over for a movie night. Buying the beer on the first night, as usual, went rather well: the staff acted professionally, requested and accepted my ID, and even wished me a fun evening. Sounds great, right? Oh, it was, and so was the night to boot. The following night, however, the very same lady that I once considered kind and pleasant, worked the self-service checkout and my experience, to say the least, was beyond insulting. After acting as if she went out of her way to take off the security cap on the bottle, she asked with a chime of attitude, 'Didn't I just check you out getting another one of these?' To some, this may we be nothing; however, to suggest what she did places her accusations into the realm of insult in my opinion. Never would I comment on a customer's purchases, even if I had witnessed them buying seven bottles of hard liquor per week. Because of her disgusting attitude, I now take my business to Giant Eagle in Stow; at least they don't make me feel as if I am Charlie Sheen with my one bottle of bourbon per week. What a shame. If I could leave 0 reviews for this store I would. I went in with my two roommates to buy groceries. When we finished we went to the checkout and one of them forgot their wallet. We were buying alcohol and the rule is all 3 of us had to have our IDs to purchase, subsequently since she didn't have her wallet she couldn't purchase her part of the groceries so my other roommate had to purchase for her. So we weren't allowed to buy the alcohol because 1 of us didn't have the IDs. I figured if I came back in just by myself and purchased the alcohol then it wouldn't be a problem since I had brought my ID. Apparently they have a blacklist of some sort because I was denied because I was already denied. The cashier said "you can't be bringing underage people in here and trying to buy alcohol" I explained the situation and she said if you all come back with your IDs you can buy it. So we all went back and grabbed our IDs then returned to the store. I was at the checkout when a cashier came out and yelled at me in front of other patrons that I had been denied twice. I pointed to my roommate who in the beginning had forgotten her ID and told her what happened and she told me we had to wait for the original girl who denied me to return so we could show her our IDs and then buy the alcohol. I explained that I do not appreciate being treated like a criminal. If they're going to blacklist people from buying alcohol then all the clerks should get the whole story.
