For the love of God .. Tell your lazy a$$ cashiers to help your customers bag. It is so much for me not to go feral on them when they just sit there watching my husband bag our groceries. I have a bad arm in need of surgery so I cannot help. We are also not on the payroll so your lazy a$$ cashiers need to help bag. It also holds up the line. I should probably just report this to the nice manager who we talk to every time we're there. He's very helpful. I got some people like to bag their own groceries so at least they should ask. My husband's gotten snotty with some of the cashiers when they ask for payment while he's still bagging. He says annoyingly I can only do one thing at a time and they still can't get it through their thick heads. That's a hint. Help. read more

Produce often only last a day or two in the fridge, then totally rotten, prices everywhere are up, but Lantana Acme seems worse to me and the quality is sub par. My biggest issue is the locking carts. Almost every time I get a small cart, as I am leaving the store it locks and I wait for a clerk to come up lock it. It is ridiculous, especially when I have to go to customer service because people are just standing around and not coming to unlock. Last time when I told the clerk how irritated I was, he was so rude responding "if those people would stop stealing we wouldn't have to do it". Exactly who are "those people". I was extremely disgusted by the entire situation and his comment made it worse. read more

Came for groceries today. The store was 1/2 empty and the some of the meats were expired and looked brown. Went to the deli and I was the only one there and thinking maybe I should pass ..I decided to wait and a man came over to take my order. Not sure if I'll be back bec how do you know the exp dates ? Asked a worker putting out small pizzas if she knew if they were any good and she barked I don't know! The only friendly people there were at the pharmacy and the checkout. It seems employees may have left for the new Wegmans idk. Overall my total was over 300.00 and not much food. Think I'll check out Zingos in Pike Creek again, it's family owned and would rather give them my money. read more

This is overall a nice store with nice employees. I've shopped there for years, it is my nearest supermarket. I love the bakery. But I was very upset to see this picture taken in front of your store by someone protesting the governor's order to wear masks. Her page makes it clear it is about politics and she refuses to practice safety. I was at the store yesterday. I don't think I was there when she was, but I need to know you will enforce the governor's order and not let people go without masks or you will lose customers. For now I will go somewhere else for next Wednesday's trip. read more

Wish I could give them ZERO stars. They are consistent in one thing--they will ALWAYS DISAPPOINT--poor quality--even worse management and no customer service. Just before 6:00pm on a work day when people need to stop in and pick up a few quick things--NOT HERE! 2 cashiers open --NO EXPRESS LINE--. Lines are 5-6 people deep and the self service is backed up as usual because it doesn't work either. When will another grocery store open anywhere close--everyone would leave this Acme if there was some competition--worst store ever and keeps getting worse July 2019 update. Went there today to grab 3 things NO EXPRESS LANE. Made everyone use the backed up self serve. So much for a quick trip. Refrigerator units near the exit were pulled away from the wall. Employees are half and half. Some very helpful, some not so much. This sort of explains your experience: Employee smoking area is the front of the store. I'm an ex smoker so don't mind the smell. However I do have a small child that we have to walk through this to go into the store. Last thing you want is to walk your child through that before buying food. (And it goes into the children's swim school next door.) while you are there, the employees are for the most part running around helping people. Select few will give you some grumpy responses. But overall they seem willing to help. Leaving the store someone might give you a free sample, so that is nice. But then back out you go past the smoking to get to your car again on the way out. I hate complaining about smoke, because I get it I was there before. However I think you guys can find a new employee smoking area. read more

So Saturday I filled my 5th prescription at the Acme at Lantana, and for every fifth script you get 20% off your grocery order . Well I don't have to tell you how excited I was , what with Thanksgiving around the corner , so I sat down at the break area and called my Niece Karan to tell her the news. She and my Wife Carolyn are doing the holiday cooking . Well it turns out that in my excitement I left my groceries at the store , including a 20 dollar bill that I don't recall leaving . As if shopping in a pandemic isn't bad enough and the fact that this acme makes no effort to have a price tag for most items, let's redesign the layout. It's impossible to find items. Now I'm in public longer! The new shelving sideways in the back of store is just causing confusion and crowding. I'm trying to distance from people, not get stuck in a crowded aisle with them. I am overall VERY disappointed in this store. I used to go to ACME a lot, but when I had a bad experience, I stopped going. This afternoon, I went to grab a couple groceries. I saw raspberries sitting on the shelf and I was like hmm these look yummy! I am going to purchase this. When I got home, I saw that the raspberries, that I purchased for 10 DOLLARS, were completely molded. I AM SO UPSET! I wasted my money on a product I cannot even use because no one in that place has the knowledge to look at fruit that was obviously sitting there WAY too long. To the manager or whoever it may concern reading this, PLEASE start hiring employees who have the brain cells to know when fruit is starting to expire. Thank you. read more

I went to this Acme supermarket for two items and two items only: restrooms and peanut butter. I found both fairly quickly and used the self-checkout so I didn't have to deal with anyone. That would be a pretty short review, so I'll add this: I didn't see anything else worth getting. Prices were generally higher than what you would find at other supermarkets, e.g. Pathmark. Not even all the specials were competitive. If you live in the neighborhood then this is the store for you. Otherwise, you may do better elsewhere. read more

The baked goods and bread are decent. But the prices on everything are thru the roof. The employees are all nice people and friendly...with their other employee friends. They will be happy and joking among themselves and when they see customers they stare and give you a look like you are bothering them for making them work. And this store has extra special employees, disabled and mentally challenged, so they get extra credit for that. If they had some competition they would either lower their prices or be out of business. You can tell the employees are union workers. read more

I've been going to this Acme for several years. I didn't think I would accept it after living near and shopping at another Acme, but this one won me over. I have found the staff very helpful and responsive when I have a question or a problem. They've always returned problem items graciously. When I pointed out a couple of problems to the manager I was given a gift card. I really can't complain! read more

This is a horrible grocery store. The seafood department especially sells old smelly fish and crab legs. I have returned on a regular basis. For living in mushroom country the mushrooms are spoiled within hours of purchase. I've lived around here for three years now and this is our closest grocery store...so even though I dislike it I inevitably end up here occasionally. I'm still annoyed by being scolded this morning by the cashier at the express lane for having what *APPEARED* to him to be more than 15 items. He and I were having this conversation tete-a-tete (if you discount my three small kids) because there was NO ONE waiting...but he was still very concerned for the wellbeing of hypothetical customers who might at some time enter the queue. Well turns out I actually had 15 items, so thanks sir for wasting all our time. But really, this is a mediocre grocery store with my #1 complaint being that the produce section is invariably miserable. I kid you not, they went an entire week once without stocking cilantro (if you cook you know). I'm not asking for anything exotic here folks! The employees are dour, the prices high, the aisles narrow, and the variety lacking. Don't shop here unless you must. read more

Produce Pro-tips: avoid shopping on Wednesday, grocery it's the one day where the department doesn't get a produce load (if it's not there on Tuesday, it won't be on Wednesday). Best day to come by, other than the weekends, would be Monday where the store usually replenishes. Shelves are usually fully stocked between 12-2 when the morning and afternoon employees switch off. Worked here for five years and it's a good store and has some great employees. Organization can be confusing at times and check-out lines might be backed up during peak hours like week nights 5-630. read more

Wow! I was literally shocked when I read some of these reviews. I've lived in the area over 20 years and have been going to Acme forever it seems. I think it's a fantastic store. One of the main things I like about it is consistency in the employees who work the front desk. I don't know if they're managers or supervisors but they've been the same group of people for a long time. I know them and they know me. Not by name, mind you, but they recognize me and know I'm a regular. If ever I have an issue with meat or produce quality, I take the item back to the store and they are happy to accommodate me and typically comp me for my trouble. This has happened maybe 5 times in 20 years. Not such a bad track record in my mind. I saw a comment about the aisles being narrow and I thought that was narrow minded. Sometimes there's a kiosk type display in an aisle which makes it difficult for two carts to pass but what store doesn't have that issue?? Produce is fresh. I won't buy lunchmeat anywhere else. Now, here comes the kicker. I love the store. I never have to wait to checkout. Parking is great. People are friendly and it's just five minutes down the road from me. What I don't like is the prices. I think they are way high. Sorry Acme. When I was gainfully employed, I didn't notice. Maybe it's a recent thing. But i'm retired now and really notice the difference in pricing as compared to other stores. Is it the Hockessin thing?? I occasionally shop in N. Wilmington, Pike Creek and Stanton. Hockessin Acme is much higher but for the convenience, friendly service and stock, I go there every week. read more
