I've been a customer for decades but recently I've noticed the store service and cleanliness has slipped. The prices can be prohibitive($2.50 for one grapefruit, their subs are skimpier and up to $7.00- still with a good roll-thank heavens), and the fish counter didn't smell fresh! Snack foods are ridiculous. So I now use this as my supplemental store and do major grocery purchases @Shop rite or Costco in Manahawkin. They have a good variety so you're not stuck but.. read more

If you don't mind summertime chaos, then this store has everything you may need for your summer vacation at the shore. On a Sunday morning around 10AM you can expect to go nowhere fast as the aisles are full of both people and product. Everyone seems to go with flow and no one looked uptight. the staff was friendly and the prices were fair. I came in with a pretty big list and was able to cross off everything in about 30 minutes. It's an ACME, so let's start there. Given that grocery stores were few and far between, this was our place to get groceries while staying on the island. Unlike other reviewers, I had zero issues here. I found everything I needed, staff were courteous and helpful, and everything was organized. No issues with bad dates or not being able to find anything. The store was also very clean with a good selection, and this was during the off-season, which is great. I took off a star because some prices were much higher than I am used to paying, but I guess that should be expected because grocery store choices are limited on the island, so they dominate the market. read more

I LOVE this grocery store. They are so organized and clean. Everything is easily accessible. They get crazy, busy during summer season so be prepared. Fortunately, the are super organized and move people through the lengthy lines very quickly. I would have given a 5 star review for this location BUT.....there is never anybody readily available in the seafood market, ever. I have been shopping here for the past 4 years and this has always been the situation. Be prepared to either wait awhile at the counter or get frustrated trying to track someone down. read more

Curbside pickup is embarrassing. Told us our order was ready so we drive over and sat in the parking lot for an hour and a half. Two day vacation and this store took 1.5 hours away from it. I could have individually shopped this order in the store 10 times over in the amount of time I waited in the parking lot. That's the point of curbside pickup.. anyways, I didn't even get the order, decided to leave bc this store isn't worth the time. Last time I ever shop at an acme. Kudos to the manager for being completely incompetent and lying to customers. 1 star is too generous of a rating here. Can get very crowded as this location in LBI and at time items are missing off the shelf. Purchase items from the meat department and a little disappointed as the steaks were tough. Meat in Manahawkin location so much better and tender. read more

Great drinking game idea, take a shot every time you find an item on the shelf that expired more than 3 months ago. If you're still alive at the end, you win. Seriously they have so much product on the shelves that is expired, and not by like a day or a week, usually it's anywhere from a month to nearly a year. One of just two grocery stores south of the Causeway on LBI - and they know it. Summer time shoppers paying no attention to "one way" signage, less than 1/2 of them wearing masks (and nobody enforcing it). And don't expect to get any service in the "fresh" (a term used very loosely) fish and meat counter -- been to that section 5 times in the last 4 weeks and have yet to see anyone attending to customers, many of whom wait (from 2 to 10 minutes), and then just leave. Never see any "managers", or if you do they are stocking shelves and not "managing" anything. If you have an "off island" grocery shopping option - USE IT. read more

This is the only supermarket on the island and therefore, you need to go in expecting long lines and slow moving patrons on "vacation time." The deli counter is an extremely popular spot, so you may want to consider pre-sliced deli meat over freshly sliced. The store has a solid variety of stock items, like cereals, beverages, dairy, and meats. Heads up: bring your own bags. Plastic bags will set you back $.10 each if you can't deal with plastic. read more

Where else are you going to go on the island? DeFiglio's (to pay twice as much?)? This Acme is well-stocked, summer worker-run, and crazy busy. It does the job. Some other tips: Try to go as close to 6 AM as possible- mid morning always has a crowd of moms picking up their last minute groceries before their day on the beach. Decent customer service but a HUGE amount of worker kids in the aisles who apparently have no idea that you and your cart are trying to get around them. Plan well with your family to hit up some fish stands on the island if you want seafood as there is slim to none at this store. Don't worry about if you need an Acme shopper card; each aisle has them for you to scan. Make sure to pack your own groceries. In NJ we don't pump our own gas, but we do pack up our own groceries. read more

Pretty basic selection, mostly what you'd expect from a large grocery store. It seems to be one of the only ones on the island so it was pretty crowded. I couldn't find any fresh strawberries, looked like they were all out of stock. But overall they had what I needed and the quality was as good as I had hoped for (average).The customer service was great, the cashier was super nice and gave us a discount on our groceries for no reason other than to be nice, everyone was friendly and we were able to check out in no time, despite the hoards of people there. Plus I found a fun plastic jug that's perfect for filling with margaritas to bring to the beach, so that was a win. read more

It is what it is It does what it does It isn't overly clean, cheap, or overflowing with variety. but it does have the essentials, is better stocked than a Wawa, and will get you through if you forgot to stop at the Pathmark on the way in. shop for your meat at Okie's, and your produce and fish at the higher quality mongers on the island. but if you are really needing ingredients for smores, mac n cheese, and PBJs, it's an OK option - there's a reason why they are called 'non-perishables' I am surprised at Meredith K's issue with this place - her boyfriend thrives on Geno's frozen pizza with expiration dates from the late 90s - I am sure she can find that here as well. read more

How does this place not get shut down by the board of health? this place is a shit hole. But unfortunately it's the only supermarket on the island. So you can either: Stop at a supermarket before you get on the island (which I recommend), or go to the smaller markets and pay more for stuff (there's lots of fish shops, some great veggie places, and a decent butcher). I attempted to shop here and found much of the food expired. I was trying to shop for breakfast stuff and all the bacon was at least one year over expiration. HELLO health inspector?!!!!!! The worst market that I have ever been to! At 5:00 PM on a Tuesday they had one express and one regular cash register open. The employees across the board were rude, not helpful AT ALL, and dismissive. The rotisserie chickens were greasy and over priced. read more

Since the store was rebuilt last year, Acme has become a first class supermarket. Lots of friendly staff, a great selection of produce, deli meats, baked goods, meat and fresh fish, fast checkout and a large parking lot. Their Lancaster Brand choice grade beef is excellent, as are the baked-in-store breads, pastries and desserts. Of course, the only reason anyone would shop here is because they are on the island and practically everybody on the island has been to Acme so I don't know who these reviews will but that's OK. read more

Acne has really come a long way over the years and with the new renovation, this place is truly top notch! The prepared food section is where it's at for delicious food without the work (because you're on vacation!). The salad bar is super fresh and their pizza and chicken fingers are two thumbs up! This place is a dump. And since they're the only supermarket on LBI, there's no reason for them to improve themselves. Do your shopping at the Pathmark or Shop Rite on Rt. 72, before you come onto the island. Acme is good in a pinch, and for that they get the extra star. read more

Brand new store opened up the other day and they have drastically improved it from what was there before. Understandably, it was crowded for memorial weekend but they streamlined the checkout and had plenty of stock of their incredibly priced sale items...half gallon of turkey hill ice cream for $1.49!!! I want this to be seen first. Buy the Mr Rons coleslaw. Its a company recipe and at $3.99/lb its a steal. Its just wonderful and I just recently found out its available company wide not just this store. I buy it every trip. A lot if these reviews are prior to the renovation. The store is very clean. They were set to build a super Acme but Sandy seems to of killed that. Regardless the store is good for the island. Prices are good (as long as you keep in mind you're not traveling 10 miles to Shop-rite). The money saved by going to Shop-rite is burned up in gas/time. Update: store is closed until may 2015. Unfortunately for this place, the other reviewers are spot on with their reviews/assessments. I would strongly recommend hitting up the Shop Rite or one of the club stores before you get on the island, because it's very slim pickins for supermarkets once you get to LBI. As far as I know, this is the only actual "supermarket" on the island. The place isn't that big, it's dirty and it's rundown. I thought the deli was pretty bad and the meats didn't stay fresh very long. I also made the terrible mistake of buying sushi here. I was craving it and LBI doesn't have much for sushi, so I figured I'd give it a shot. Bad idea. It was terrible. Why am I even giving this place 2 stars? Because it's still solid for all of your chips, drinks, breads, etc. and it is relatively reasonably priced. For that type of stuff, it beats driving the 15 minutes off the island but I wouldn't venture to far from the pre-packaged stuff. read more
