We find ways to go back to the Neptune! I think I leave things off of my list to go back in and hang out with the incredibly busy and attentive staff. Order lunch or get take out dinner. Breakfast at the grill counter is second to none. Joe and Amy are talented and trained chefs; they are also hilarious. Please have the soup ( any kind) or chicken pot pie home made and beautiful. Tonight we had chicken Francois (restaurant quality) eggplant Parmesan and a German feast. Amy lent us large catering bowls, chopped our onions and peppers for a German dinner, and made us laugh the entire time we shopped. Joe is a beautiful person and knows his way around a huge breakfast menu. Oh and it's a fully stocked food store... did I mention that. The heart of Harvey Cedars! read more

My family has been coming to Neptune Market for years, so this was a disappointing visit. We stopped in for a quick breakfast, but what should have been a simple order ended up taking nearly an hour. All I ordered was a pork roll, egg, and cheese on a Kaiser roll with a hash brown patty. I understand they were very busy, but the wait still felt excessive for such a basic breakfast sandwich. I was also surprised to find out that after 11:00 a.m. they stop serving pancakes and omelets, even though breakfast sandwiches are still available. It would have been nice if the full breakfast menu was offered a little longer. The biggest issue for me, however, was food handling. I watched employees place dirty register receipts directly on top of prepared sandwiches, including an egg and cheese that sat with the receipt on it for several minutes. Thermal receipts aren't something I want touching my food, and it completely turned me off. I also noticed several employees with long hair and facial hair working without hairnets or beard nets, which didn't inspire confidence in the kitchen's sanitation practices. Neptune Market has always been a family favorite because the food is tasty and reasonably priced, so it's disappointing to leave this review. I hope they can improve their food handling practices and kitchen hygiene because I'd love to see them get back to the standards that kept us coming back for so many years. read more

I can make a breakfast sandwich faster with my feet. The quality was fine but the wait completely ruined the experience. If it's going to take too long, just say so upfront. Not only do they have a counter with grill to sit and order a delicious breakfast or lunch, but they also have a plentiful store including fresh produce, a cold cut counter, spices, bevies, etc. impressive. They offer home cooked meals, sandwiches and soup to go from their coolers. The space is well lit and not crowded. It's really clean inside, but a little confusing in there. You don't order from the deli counter or from the bar, you order at the cash register. There are two of them, each on opposite sides of the store, but I won't tell you which one. That's for you to figure out for yourself. I'm not trying to live your life for you. Then you wait a half hour for a pretty tasty mystery price sandwich and pay 10¢ extra for a paper bag. Half gallon of milk was like $5 and some guy paid $29 for a quart of chicken salad. We visited here this afternoon. The establishment was pretty much empty when we arrived about an hour before closing. We ordered cheese steaks. The young woman manning the grill was so sweet, allowed us to customize our order, gave recommendations. Our order was freshly made as we waited, we looked around the market a bit. There is a cold case with ready to heat entrees, which we learned they make the items homemade on site. We picked up some fresh fruit salad, and crumb cake, of course. The cheese steaks were delicious, filled with meat, perfection. Too full for the crumb cake right now, but it looks delectable. Friendly service and delicious food. read more

It's a beach grocery so tight space, staples plus, deli and grill. I can find what I need but just have to bow to the brands they have. So I grew up in this town. In my youth this place was called noonies by the locals. Back in the 60s Joe noonie hand cut all the sandwiches,burgers and steak sandwiches from the butcher shop in the back of the market. It has since been through several hands. I had breakfast there the other morning and resisted my now ancient history. The old locals still refer to Neptune market as "noonies". Force of habit. I did not have a sandwich this time but will with the next visit. I did enjoy a couple of eggs and a lot of memories. Change is inevitable and I wish the newest care takers success. read more

A worthy meal North of the causeway. We are Beach Haven renters but were up north visiting and this place was recommended by the locals. It lived up to expectations. We sat at the counter mid week at 2:00 PM and the place was lively. Lots of foot traffic suggest that this is the place to go, add in that many seemed to know one another and you have the makings of a perfect shore town establishment. I had the Nooney Burger, it was messy (as expected) and a joy to behold. The cook was both engaging and talented. I'll stop in again next summer. read more

First of all, I've been coming to Neptune since I was little - over 35 years. Not very frequently such that the various owners know me or I know them. We've been coming to Harvey cedars for even longer. Have fond memories of going to Neptune, to get the paper and a coffee... and other provisions. Their food and offerings have steadily gotten better. Today, took 25 min to get a couple of egg sandwiches. After 15 min, asked what the hold up was and they said they were cooking in order. Problem is, I not only saw people come in after me get their order but I see the tickets above the griddle getting handled before mine! Waited 5 more minutes before I again complained and the man behind the counter looked for the ticket. That's when they STARTED on my order. I know because I had sausage in my order and saw them take the stack from the freezer to start to cook it. Meanwhile the cook seemed to be focused on a bunch of porkroll for the NEXT order. The person next to me seemed to also be aggravated. In the end, a 'sorry, but it'll taste great' doesn't really make up for it. Would probably be back but not for their grill. Service at the grill is incredibly slow. They don't provide any time estimate so you wait endlessly without knowing when your order will be ready. Oh, and after waiting 50 minutes, they messed up our order and the hot sandwiches were cold. Advice for mgmt: 1) Hire people who care. 2) When someone places an order, let them know how long the wait will be. Pretty simple stuff. read more

I've been searching for a go to fried chicken spot for a long time and think I found it. The chicken was battered perfectly, without overpowering the actual chicken meat underneath. The pieces were meaty and juicy. I recommend calling ahead because it may take a half hour to make. All orders are fresh and not pre-made and sitting under a heat lamp. I went to the grill with my mom to get iced coffee and as soon as we walked in we saw both customers AND employees not wearing masks or wearing them incorrectly. We were wondering why we saw people leaving and immediately realized it was due to this and left without a second thought. Neptune's is a great option when I need a few food items quickly, since it's super close to my house. But I wouldn't recommend buying grocery items here often, since the prices are VERY high. The food made at the grill, however, is another story. Buy a lot and buy often! Everything is delicious - the egg sandwiches on bagels or bread are great morning foods, the chicken fingers or grilled cheese or burgers are fantastic for lunch. We hosted a brunch for my daughter and her new husband yesterday....the day after her wedding. Neptune provided the food.....eggs, hash browns, bacon, bagels, Kaiser rolls and a fruit bowl. The food was cooked perfectly. The folks at Neptune were great to deal with. Our 60 guests thoroughly enjoyed the brunch. Waited at least an hour for a kids chicken tenders and fries, was only 4 customers in the whole store and the cashier made me double pay after she asked for my receipt when they don't even give you a receipt. Chicken tenders were a little burnt and came with 2 instead of paying for 3 chicken tenders. After complaining to multiple people working at Neptune Market they still charged me for the extra chicken finger. Wish i could give 0 stars instead of 1. This is a small grocery store and deli that also has a mini kitchen and serves up basic breakfast food and a few other things. I did not have any of the hot, prepared food here, but from looking in the kitchen, which is open and in plain view, it seems like the cooks know what they're doing--and the food looked like the sort of food I'd really like. Grocery-wise, this place is kinda what you'd expect from an island like this--it's a tiny store with a surprising amount of stuff packed into a very small space, and it covers all the basics: I could imagine being content preparing meals with just the ingredients sold in this store. The produce selection was even pretty good for such a tiny store. I also liked the fresh baked goods; I had a whole grain roll and it was very good. The place also carries a lot of packaged breads, with a good selection of whole-grain ones. There are fresh bagels too, but they were sold out when we got there well before noon--so apparently you need to get in early to get them. The prices are higher than a typical grocery store, but they're not astronomical. I live in Philly and there's a supermarket around the corner from me with similar prices. It's perhaps very high relative to a discount market (which is the type of place I normally shop) but I think given that this is a small store on an island serving a pretty wealthy demographic, the prices are no higher than I'd expect. read more
