I really like this Food Lion on route 40. The prices , although higher than they used to be like…read moreeverything else, are still cheaper than the nearby grocery stores. They usually have enough cashiers so you don't have to wait long. In general the cashiers are quite pleasant, especially my new favorite lady but I don't know her name. She's an older black lady with glasses, average height and weight with a GREAT personality. She's so funny I always leave the store laughing out loud. She's very pleasant indeed, a real sweetheart. In the deli if I ask for a half pound (of anything) I usually end up with a bit more than that , between .53 to .58 , which is annoying because I live alone and don't need extra. I wonder if they've been told to do this-slice a bit more than what was asked for since it happens so often. Also I find it hard to open my plastic bag of cheese or lunch meat from the deli because of how they wrap it. It's always a struggle to open the plastic bags from the deli and I can't figure out why. Depending on who's working you may get waited on immediately with quick slicing, or you may get someone who doesn't mind making you wait. Always check your receipt. I've been overcharged numerous times and tonight was no exception, this time for $6.99. Those overcharges add up. They're very nice and polite and will give you back your money but it would be better if everything rang up correctly in the first place. I really like the store. It's clean, it's laid out in a logical manner, it's fairly small for a grocery store which I think is great, and they usually have in stock everything on my list. There's a few annoying hiccups here and there at Food Lion on rte. 40 but overall it's a great place to shop! I just noticed-Yelp had the Pencader Plaza store listed twice and the route 40 store isn't listed at all.

I was still bringing my Aunt to this store only because of items in your bakery area. But took her recently and had to accompany her due to her recent heart surgery and was astonished to see the conditions of this store. Purchased Turkey Hill ice cream which had a valid expiration date yet it was definitely bad! The refrigerators didn't seem as cold as they should have been either! They had people working at the Deli counter that were unable to understand what it meant when a customer ordered a " chunk piece of bowl and basket liverwurst approx weight 2 lbs." Advised it was okay if over or under...they were asking each other what that meant????? I guess this store is heading for closure or you will end up with a major problem from food spoilage/sickness. The cooked roasted chicken was terrible...not what your store used to produce. The eggs were basically near expiration date. I was lucky to find 2 dozen eggs with not close expiration dates! If this store goes through an inspection by the proper authorities it is sad to say it would probably fail miserably. I was a loyal customer for over 35 years but no longer. I hope ShopRite does read this and does something.

While taking precautions in light of the Pandemic is appropriate, the staff and manager are acting in a manner that is mean spirited and inappropriate. There is a doctrine that every nursing board in every state follows to the letter: The Nurses's Practice Act, specifically states: "What the reasonably Prudent Nurse would do" The operative word is "Reasonably". By the harassment the that I've experienced on my visits suggests that neither Management nor Staff understand the concept of Reasonably Prudent. Fear and paranoia have swept aside all reason and have thoroughly alienated this customer of 23 years. I'm not sure how many customers have been dealt with this inappropriately. Perhaps if their profits plummet and insight prevails they might start treating their customers in a more fair, understanding snd friendly manner.

This store's design makes you feel like you are trapped and assumed a shoplifter before proven…read moreinnocent, with the gate that closes right when you walk in. No other supermarket I have ever been to has this setup. What really pushed my buttons though was that I did all my shopping, spending a full hour here because I wanted to explore and get to know the whole store, and when I got to the checkout, not a single register was open, only the self-checkout. But there was no one manning the self-checkout, there was literally not a single employee in sight. I was frustrated, I don't like using the self-checkout when I have a large purchase with a full cart, but I felt forced into it. So I started scanning, and of course, it glitched on the first item, and had to wait for an employee to help. Eventually (it was not quick) an employee came out from the back of the store. He cleared the code...but then the second item I scanned glitched. There were 3 other customers also needing help. It was a tense, stressful atmosphere. I was waiting, and at this point it had been about 2 minutes total since I got to the front of the line, and at the pace things were proceeding, it was clear that I wasn't going to get out of this store in under 40 minutes, which is just crazily unacceptable to me. So I told the employee, I want to check out at a regular register, or I will abandon the cart. He didn't say anything in response, so I abandoned the cart. I feel bad for the employee. I am very angry at the company though. If you don't hire enough staff to keep the store open, you need to close the store. It's rude and incredibly inconvenient to the customers AND to the employees. I also just don't get it. Like...I've shopped at Lidl stores in Middletown, DE and in Lancaster, PA and have never had this experience there. They always have had registers open. Companies need to stop trying to cut corners and push us customers around by making us deal with long inconveniences just to save them a few pennies. I don't put up with it, and I wish other customers wouldn't either. Companies need to be punished when they try to pull stunts like this. I won't come back to this store until I receive an apology from management and reassurance that the store will always be adequately staffed in future visits. Oh, and after leaving this awful store, what did I do? I went down the road to ALDI and I bought all of the same stuff...incidentally, lower prices, the produce was fresher. And a normal (not self-checkout) register was open with NO wait. It was a delightful experience. I gave this place a chance and it failed miserably. I am just sad that I can't enjoy its good bakery section. That is the one good thing about this store. But they need to actually make a usable checkout process which means (1) adequate staff (2) always a normal register open (3) self-checkout that actually works. Also maybe redesign the store so we don't feel trapped and like we are all being treated like shoplifters, because literally no other store I shop at does that. ALDI, Trader Joe's, Food Lion, ACME, they are all just normal. That ridiculous gate thing is only a thing of this store.

Didn't see pea vines but they are quite hard to get. Bulk rice and dried mushrooms, and fresh fish and seafood as well as meats including organ meats. Noodles fresh, frozen and dried as far as the eye can see. A small section of housewares. Outside the market (which is in the old Toys R Us if you remember back when) there is a small food court with roast duck, banh mi and pastries. There is also a Korean bbq restaurant and a noodle and dumpling restaurant nearby in the parking area, the Korean bbq is across from the market and the noodle dumpling house is next to where the old Borders bookstore had been (on the way out of the shopping center.) Worth the trip. We enjoy cooking at home, especially Asian food and we enjoy grocery shopping so this was a really fun excursion. And since we eat a lot of bok choi, we'll be back soon.
