The Acme Market at the University Plaza has undergone changes that I believe are unsafe and feels like a prison. Instead of having employees great you with a friendly hello or courtesy the employees watch you go through a security gate to get in the store and then the gate closes behind you. If Acme doesn't have the item that you are looking for you have to ask one or two people to actually let you out of the store. If you buy something you have to use your receipt to let you out. I have a suggestion! 1. Get rid of the gates and self service. 2. Hire more employees. 3. Get back to customer service. I will not be shopping at this Acme any longer. I'm not crazy about this place. I wasn't sure if this place was pricier just because that's how Acme rolls or because I'm used to NY prices. The cashier wasn't the greatest. She seemed preoccupied with how her nails look and seemed bothered by the fact that she had to ring me up. It's nice that they have a restroom, however its alllll the way in the back where the warehouse area is, so it kind of feels like you're going to get in trouble for trespassing. The lady that was working back there was very nice in directing me towards the bathroom. read more

I hate this store with a passion. For years I shopped at the Pathmark store at this same location, and it was a good supermarket, by no means the best, but solid, and I was happy to shop here regularly. When Pathmark closed and ACME moved into this store, it initially kept things more-or-less the same, but slowly the store began to shift: prices went up, quality went down. The prices here are really absurd. I went here to buy milk when I ran out unexpectedly, and I was shocked to see that a quart of milk here costs more than a half-gallon of milk does at ALDI. Seriously WTF? The produce here is even worse. I've seen things for sale here for $5.00 a pound that you can get from ALDI or the Newark Farmer's Market on Kirkwood highway, for between $1 and $2 a pound. And the quality is not great. It's not rock bottom, but for such inflated prices I would expect top-notch stuff. (Think Wegmans, which ironically, is a bit cheaper than this store.) Add to this the fact that they've removed the automated express checkout lanes that Pathmark had. Pathmark had had those for years and had really worked out the kinks. The few times I've dropped in here during the busy times of day, there have been really long lines. Then at night, there are a bunch of open registers with no lines. I think this place is just poorly run across the board. I suspect the prices are so high because they don't use their resources effectively. I don't shop here any more. I do most of my shopping at ALDI (on Rt. 40 just across the MD border) and the Newark Farmer's Market up Kirkwood highway. In town, I shop mostly at Zahra, the middle eastern store, and Bombay Bazaar, the Indian store. I recommend all of these stores. There is no need to ever set foot in this store. read more

I was about to start laying into this place when I read gary g's review. He is right. Everything he said. And this: the music will make you want to claw your eyes out--1970s soft rock and pop-type crap. AHHHHH! Avoid, avoid, avoid unless you are: a) a UD student with no car and you live close by and you are very desperate; or b) a UD faculty member with no car and you live close by and you are very desperate (that's me right now). Well, since my last review I have become a part time ACME employee. So far so good. I have had the privilege of being on both sides. As a customer, the good far out ways the bad. I can say I have had only 1 negative experience since they have become an ACME over a year ago. I can always find what I need. If there is trouble, there are more then enough employees there to help me. Everyone is always patient and understanding. Shot out to Barb, Janasia (I think that's how that's spelt), and Matt the front end manager. Now as an employee, I was a bit thrown off when they said being apart of their union was a condition of employment. Yet again, the positive out weighs the negative. Everything thing else about this company is great in my opinion. The prices are above fair and I think if it wasn't for the great quality of service and promotional offers, many in my area would shop else where only because they are a bit pricey. read more

I don't know why anyone would want to go to this Pathmark, when the Shoprite less than a mile south has better sales and overall prices. The produce is good, hot foods is surprisingly decent. Meat selection is lacking. Not to mention during the university's school year, you have to put up with the college nitwits who flood the store. read more

Review for Acme Pharmacy: Per Felicia Owusu, a pharmacist at Acme College Square in Newark, DE, the pharmacy no longer accepts GoodRx coupons. I visited the pharmacy on October 25, 2019 and presented two coupons for two medications and the coupons were refused by the pharmacist who told me they no longer accept them. I asked when this policy became effective and Felicia first said "a while ago", then "earlier this year". When I mentioned that I had previously used GoodRx coupons at this store for both medications and that my husband had recently used a GoodRx coupon for a different medication, she said "it changed a few weeks ago". When I asked if the policy applied to all Acme's or just this store Felicia said she didn't know - she was just told not to take them anymore. I asked if there were any other programs with discounts or coupons that the store would accept and was told I could look and bring them in and they would tell me. There is no signage in the store or pharmacy or on the store's web site indicating this pharmacy policy change. Very frustrating for those of us on a limited income with either no prescription coverage or poor coverage through insurance that depend on discount programs. I have multiple sclerosis and GoodRx has saved me thousands of dollars on my MS meds during the past two years. Unfortunately, prices at other pharmacies in my area are significantly higher with the coupons ($300+ and $600+ per month, and in the thousands through insurance) which I cannot afford so I'm now forced to go without medications that help my MS symptoms. Thanks Acme. If their policy changes, I'll gladly update my review and rating. For what it's worth, I find it interesting that the majority of reviews that Yelp does not recommend for this store (and are therefore not calculated in the overall rating) are negative reviews. As a result, I suspect mine may end up being hidden as well. read more

My friends and I always feel like freaks when we bring our cloth bags to Pathmark and ask them to let us bag our own stuff. The cashiers get concerned and sometimes bag it for you anyways. Pathmark has all the stuff you'll need and some great deals and generic cheap(er) organic eggs. And often, there's ice cream on sale, very nice. read more

He has been my pharmacist for many years now..( Pathmark)...he has provided me and my wife with phenomenal, above and beyond service....I call acme ''smack me because of the high prices...Ed is the best!!! This place is an honest to god dump. I cant believe the a major store such as Acme would actually purchase this old , outdated run down location in such a crappy old rundown outdated shopping plaza. Called them today because after suffering through only two check out lines, one a do-it-yourself and one with someone at the register, I got "customer service" and reported the red grapes advertised and listed on the packaging they were supplied in as "seedless" were in fact filled with seeds. I was advised this had happened before and that I could return them for a refund. When I relied I just "might not bother ever coming back", the customer service person said "have a nice day". She never once indicated they would take any action to correct this misrepresentation. My family and those I influence will avoid this store. read more
