On 2-24-25, I proceeded to use self check out with more than the 15 item minimum, so yes I am guilty of that. I used the self check out because I currently have a disability involving both of my shoulders, have chronic pain, cannot lift anything heavy, and everything that I lift is extremely painful. There were 6 registers open for self check out and Nobody was in line. The lighter items I scanned and put on the scale, the heavier items I scanned while they were in the cart. The cashier in charge came over to me and told me that I had too many items and that I had to put everything on the scale. I apologized for disregarding the 15 min and did explain to her that it was easier for me to scan items in the cart since I had a disability with both of my shoulders, that that I would be done in a couple minutes, and that next time I would go to a regular register or bring somebody with me. I told her that for me to go to a regular register and start over would be too painful. She told me that she would need to void the transaction and that that's what I would have to do. I told her that I was physically unable to do that. I kept scanning after she said that because I was almost done so She got her manager. A manager came over and said that she would have to void the transaction, and that I was messing up the scale by only putting some items on it. I again said that I had a disability and that I didn't think it would be a problem because there was nobody waiting for the self check out. She said that the cashier in the regular line would have to do everything for me but I did not want to have to bother the cashier at the register in the regular line and make everybody wait while the cashier took everything out of my cart, scanned items, and would have to repack my cart since I couldn't. Again I was a minute from being done so why start over at that point? She started pointing to items in the top part of the cart asking me if I scanned them. I told her that I had scanned everything in that section and that she could check my receipt when I was done. Again, I explained to her that I only had a couple things left and I would try to bring somebody with me to help next time. She got the security guard. The security guard approached me and again I explained that I had a disability that prevented me from putting everything on the belt in a regular line and that also prevented me from putting everything on the scale in self check out and that he was welcome to check my receipt when I was done to make sure that I scanned everything. I told him that I only had two things left and I would like to just please finish And that next time I'll have to bring somebody with me to help. At this point, he was the third employee that I told of my disability. Not one out of the three of them offered to just help me finish. The security guard then told me that he has my picture now and a video of me and that he was going to post the picture. He told me that he would be watching me every time that I come in there from now on. He made me feel like some type of criminal. I did complain to a higher up manager named Alex, who was really nice and told me that the next time I come in, he would have a cashier help me but the thought of holding up a regular line while a cashier unloads, scans, and repacks my whole cart is still an embarrassing thought to me. Alex also had someone help me unload the items into my car which was nice. I have always had good experiences at this Acme, but for three employees to be that insensitive about a disability and for the security guard to actually tell me how he was going to post my picture somewhere and watch me every time I come in like I'm some type of criminal is so discriminatory and upsetting for someone with a disability. It was also very embarrassing as other shoppers didn't know what was going on so they probably assumed I did something wrong. Btw I've shopped at Acme for 30 years! Not anymore. Also it's been 5 days at this point and still no response from the regional manager that was supposed to call me. I will take my business elsewhere. read more
