This is the best vintage shop I have been to in more than 10 years. Sharon, the owner, is very knowledgeable, has so many incredible pieces, and is reasonably priced given they are high quality, vintage items. I bought a 80's/90's beaded 100% silk crop top that fits me like a glove, for $75! It is such an incredible piece to add to my collection. Words do not do this piece justice. I just moved here from California and stores like this just do not exist in California anymore. This is a real gem! Sharon has been in this store for 13+ year and I hope she is there for 13+ more! I live about two blocks from this store and am already planning my return. I went 2x yesterday. Once with a friend and once to bring my husband because I felt like he NEEDED this 70's silk shirt she had. It was fantastic and we bought it. One of my favorite stores during our vintage shopping day! This shop offered men's, women's, jewelry and accessories plus a few home decor items. My teen son and I enjoyed looking around and appreciated that mirrors and a dressing room were available. We found him a cool brown vest to add to his closet. This is the type of style I think of when shopping for vintage clothing. The condition of the clothing was fantastic and prices were reasonable. Most items had a more upscale vibe (not tees and sweatshirts). Service from the team working was wonderful too. You can tell they work hard to upkeep the store and their items. Acorn apparel is in the same space of Cherry Bomb. It was also a vintage store. The signage isn't great. You almost don't see it off the street. There's a little sign sitting outside the store and a small banner but that's about it. It's easy to miss. The space looks about the same. Red, dark, and lots of wood. I love vintage stores but sometimes the price can dissuade me. There are always a lot of unique pieces, but I'm a small gal and sometimes there aren't pieces that will fit me right. They've got the usual stuff here: shoes, earrings, clothes, etc. It's not my favorite store regarding vintage and second hand but it's one to check out. For some reason, I never saw a lot of people at Cherry Bomb. There also weren't many people coming into this shop either. Maybe it's a signage issue? Urban Attic was another second hand store just a few yards away and that one also didn't do well. Maybe it's the location? read more

Acorn Apparel is a small, yet really cool vintage shop on Bardstown Road. I'm not that into buying or wearing vintage clothing, but I love to look and see what these kind of stores have, just because it is awesome seeing pieces that date back to the 50's, 60's, etc. And this place is pretty fair with their pricing; they aren't going to skyrocket it just because it's old. It seems like it would be hard coming in here to shop with something in mind, which is just kind of the way vintage shopping is. Their assortment of items/clothing is random, but you can find some really cool stuff in here. They've got your classics like vinyls and cassette tapes, and even some things you might not expect like 80's/90's Barbie dolls to antique jewelry. I found an adorable pair of sunglasses for only 12 bucks! All in all, it's a cool place to spend some time in. read more

Stopped in this gem on my most recent visit to Louisville. I'm soooo glad I did. Wow, what a great selection of vintage furs!!! Stoles, coats, etc. I fell in love at first sight with all of them!!!! I snagged a great vintage 1950's mink stole. I almost walked out of there with a very 80's leather and fox fur coat as well...alas, I restricted myself. Two points for me! My new favorite purchase! Acorn Apparel is one of the shops that makes this stretch of Bardstown Road so fun and unique. It is chock full of vintage finds -- the kind of clothes and accessories that friends will fawn over and that you'll cherish for many years. You'll remember, each time you wear it, that day in the Highlands when you found your one-of-a-kind fashion treasure. Acorn has a selection of everyday clothes and some odds and ends that are just fun. For example, on a somewhat recent visit I spied a type of shoes I remember wearing when I was in marching band. There are also a few vintage housewares as well. And the best part? The prices! This isn't the shop of the $40 vintage T-shirt. Everything seems reasonably priced, and you can find deals. So why only three stars? It seems like whenever I go in the incense is overpowering. On my most recent visit I had to leave because it triggered an asthma attack. If I can't breathe, I can't shop. I get that it's a vintage shop, but it still would be cool with a touch less -- or actually more than a touch less -- incense. Let the awesome wares speak for themselves. read more

Who knew that so much cool vintage stuff could fit into one cozy room and not feel at all like my folks' basement? Well obviously I didn't. This place IS vintage. Not look like the 80s but straight up purple velvet dress with stretchy straps AND the sleeves that hang off your shoulder. Well there was a purple velvet dress - it is now in my closet - who's ready for the 80s party?! (I only snagged one, there were lots more options for ya.) I loved all the additional things too, while there were old school sweaters, pants, jackets, dresses and such there were lots of other fun things. Super cool belts, clutches that literally clutch shut. Okay, so not sure how to explain these better, but they're neat and I haven't seen one since I was a kid. Vintage T's, while I'm not cool or ironic enough to pull them off are kinda rocking. And there were tons of neat ones. The 70s and 80s earrings are a riot!! At 4 bucks I went ahead and completed my outfit. And lots of other gorgeous jewelry as well - things that you are going to find in a dept store. I also got the perfect reading dork heavy pewter owl book ends to add a bit of class to my hum drum bookcase. Everything was reasonably priced and the owner was extremely nice. Cool lady. I love it when the person ringing you up or serving your beer or whatnot is actually the person who runs the place. This city gets better every day! read more

Wow, this place was SO COOL. Unlike a lot of other shops in the area, they carry exclusively vintage wares. The prices were a bit high, but the quality and selection helped offset that. Acorn is all used stuff and all cool. It's the size of a large walk-in closet, but it's the sort of closet you'd swap everything in your home closet for and probably come out ahead in a couple respects. There are knick-knacks and several bins of records, but the focus here is on vintage clothing, tending towards whimsy and kitsch, and I dig the fact that there's nearly as much men's stuff as women's. This is a fun place to hit up while you're just wandering around Bardstown road with a friend and have some free time cause there's tons of random items like suspender straps, tap dance shoes, and old luggage in addition to some super cute 50's-90's fashion. So yes, while its great for finding an outfit for a theme party, finally finding that members only jacket your wardrobe was missing or spotting the perfect sentimental gift, you probably won't walk away with a bunch of stuff you just had to have. But obviously you have to keep coming back just in case its your lucky day and everything you've been browsing around for is at Acorn. The jewelry can be a great deal here, particularly the vintage pieces. I got a bracelet for 3 bucks! New clothing items are reasonably priced around $30-$40 and the vintage stuff is usually less expensive than that. read more

Very nice vintage store! This is definitely the best vintage shop on Bardstown Rd. They have a nice selection of clothes from all eras. The staff was very helpful and sweet. I purchased a blouse probably from the 60s or 70s. There was no tag, but the man at the counter texted someone who said to give it to me for $20, which is reasonable for vintage clothes. My buddy and I stumbled on this place while walking up thru the highlands and both LOOOOOVED it. Though the store is not big, the selection of vintage items they have (and the price points) is varied, well curated and offered with an excellent eye for taste. As a seasoned thrifter, sometimes I find the price points of vintage stores annoyingly overblown but in here, there was something for everyone! After debating awhile, I bought an awesome dress and cool belt to go with it, all for under 30$! I spotted some really high quality lucite handbags from the 60's in there, as well as items from much earlier alongside stuff I remember wearing in the 90's! The owner is also super nice and lovely to talk to as well, which always is a bonus in my opinion. If find yourself in this area, definitely pop by - there's plenty parking and tons to see! read more

You never know what you will find at Acorn Apparel! I love vintage clothes and thrifting, so this is a great little store to visit to find a few special pieces. I've bought a couple amazing sterling silver necklaces, a vintage jumpsuit (I am just waiting to have the perfect place to wear it), a cute maxi dress, a vintage belt, an 80s sweater, and a 70s vintage fur muff/purse! I've found some really great pieces at Acorn. Even when it was a tiny, crowded shop on Barret, the selection was good, but the larger space they've had on Bardstown for a few years now allows for even better variety. I find the prices to be very reasonable. Today I found a navy and cream plaid wool blazer . . . for a dollar. Okay, so that was on the clearance rack, but I do think their regular prices are pretty good deals. I'm not a frequent shopper, but over the years I have purchased a number of items--from scarves to vests to skirts--that I continue to enjoy. Sometimes I'm shopping for costumes, sometimes for everyday, but often I find something that could actually serve as both. read more

I love this store! Wish I had money to buy-buy-buy when I was in there, but there will be another trip made to Louisville, I can guarantee that. The owner is one of the most delightful people I have ever met. Talked to her for like 20-30 mins and already know I need her as my BFF. The spot is small and the deals on kick ass clothes are huge. She knows what she has and things are priced accordingly. I am tired of going to vintage stores and looking at the re-released Coke t-shirt from Target marked for $18 right next to an original iron-on Get-A-Long Gang t-shirt for the same price. First of all, the owner, Sharon, is AMAZING. she is sweet and she will even help give you ideas if you are having trouble seeing the overall look of an item or she will suggest other things to try with a vintage piece of hers. I consider myself a very preppy, very clean cut type of dresser. I can appreciate the look of vintage, but i cannot bring myself to actually wear it. BUT I found the coolest Christian Dior Sweater there today and i am oh so ready to wear it. I am going to look FLY. First, Sharon is the shit. Such a sweet lady and a very helpful assistant. She is great to have around when you're shopping alone and need a second opinion. Second, this store is great. I have never left empty handed. If you are into vintage clothing, or the occasional locally made pieces, you need to check it out. There is something for every body type and fashion genres around the board. One of my favorite stores hands down. If there is a downfall, my only comment is that the workers are very particular about how many items you take in and about carrying large bags. I have visited Acorn many times with my 14 year old daughter & purchased many items & had a pleasant experience in the past. Unfortunately, tonight, my daughter & 3 of her friends & I visited Acorn & were treated very disrespectfully. While I was looking at albums, my daughter was asked to place her small shopping bag from a previous store on the counter & the sales lady rudely searched her bag & looked at the receipt. She also stood & glared at the girls as they were looking through a rack of T-shirts. All of this while I was literally in the same room supervising them. My daughter did not appreciate being treated like a criminal when she did nothing wrong. We won't be back! You lost our business & I'll be sure to discourage my friends from shopping there. read more
