I had such an amazing experience at Acorn Community Birth Center. From the beginning to the end and my postpartum visits, it was just such a wonderful experience. I was first greeted by Cristi, the executive director and midwife. She made me feel at ease and made me and my husband feel very comfortable. The birth center itself is in a peaceful community in Fallbrook. It has 3 birth rooms to choose from that are themed differently. I believe I chose the green room which acquired to my liking and it was extremely peaceful. The rooms are a good size and very comfortable. My birth experience was just perfect thanks to my midwife Debbie and the student midwives, Azure and Mel. They were so patient, kind, and so knowledgeable. I believe I met most of the midwives and they are all lovely. I love how you get to do your birth, your way, and the midwives guide you while following your lead. I don't trust traditional hospitals and I would much rather do a holistic birth with midwives, just as it has been done for ages. I would choose Acorn over and over again if I were to have more children. I even had to switch my health insurance just so I could give birth at the center versus a hospital and it was so worth it. This review has been long overdue. My first 3 were in the hospitals with epidurals and my last two experience was unmedicated at Acorn. I never thought I would ever do a natural birth... but here I am! I will start by saying, natural birth is HARD. I went into my first unmedicated birth not knowing what to expect but I prefer it that way but boy was I determined!!!! Second time around I was nervous, anxious.. all the things! My first experience was great, although after labor I experienced some hemorrhaging. Once staff figured what was wrong they acted fast and I was relieved. It was a little traumatic for me but it didn't taint my experience with Acorn. I came back for round two!!! 2nd time around two years later! I delivered my baby girl on February 20th, my experience from start to end was amazing. During labor the team gives you and your partner space, during those moments were truly special. And probably one of my favorites. I had Cristi Sedona and Kyra for my team! And I would choose the same 3 every-time. Each of them brought a different vibe, but it was a mix that you need on your team! I can't thank them enough for making each experience so special, For me my husband and my family! I can't say enough good things about Acorn if you are looking to have holistic prenatal care and a natural birth. I interviewed several different midwives and knew from the moment I called Acorn and Kelly answered that it was the right choice for me. They invited me in for an in person tour during Covid when most places weren't allowing tours. They were so warm and welcoming from the moment I walked in and answered all of my questions and more. They really take their time with you and actually CARE. I ended up doing a home birth with Cristi and Anel as my midwives. They were absolutely incredible. Acorn is the best quality care for pregnancy and birth. My insurance would not cover birth center or home birth and Cristi worked with me beyond the norm. For that I am forever grateful. Her way of making mothers feel valued and cared for is unprecedented and this comes from someone working in the medical field for 13+ years. I had a redemptive second birth at home, with an amazing team (go Annie and Hannah!!). They made my three year old feel special and involved and even captured heartmelting photos of my toddler helping me during the water birth. Annie is an exceptional midwife -- she knew what to do and when and kept me progressing and comfortable, even though this is the hardest thing a woman will ever do. I had two births with Acorn and now see them for routine wellness exams. I couldn't say a single negative thing about the treatment I have received from them. Acorn provided us with an amazing experience from the first phone call and first time walking through the door to the final home visits after our baby was born. Such strong relationships were made throughout the weeks of pregnancy, I truly feel these are bonds that will last a lifetime. Everyone at Acorn is so approachable, extremely knowledgeable, and very professional. Our team on our big day; Hannah, Sedona, and Cristi were just amazing. They were always so patient and took away any anxieties we were feeling. It is abundantly clear to see the capabilities all the staff have in the way they interacted with us on every visit, and especially our newborns "birthday"! The team were ready for anything and made sure we knew that we were in safe hands, which was so reassuring. Throughout labor, we were made to feel so comfortable, with all kinds of different techniques, as well as always being attended to by a member of the team at all times. Even when I wasn't thinking about my hydration, I was always reminded to drink. The birthing rooms have everything you could possibly need to make your experience as comfortable as possible. The options are almost limitless to make sure you're comfortable during such a usually uncomfortable time. Their beautiful facility is extremely clean and very well sanitized throughout the entire establishment. This gave us a lot of confidence and reassured us that if they put so much care into the building, how much more would they take care of us during labor and birth. We also loved the kitchen area, which we were able to use whenever needed. There's no way to express our gratitude to all the ladies at Acorn who helped us through this pregnancy. A question never remained unanswered, our birth plan was adhered to perfectly and we will most assuredly visit Acorn again if we have more children. Hi there Cristi, I'm not sure why I received a notification of an additional comment, but I decided to respond. Regardless of the time we spent and when I came to Acorn, it doesn't take away from the horrendous experience I had. You and your two student midwives did not spend any time supporting my husband or me during the birth of my first child. Instead, you chose to go to other parts of the facility and sleep while I was in agony. The hospital took very good care of my newborn daughter and me once we were transferred from that awful environment. We were both severely dehydrated due to receiving little to no medical attention. At 5 months, in July, my family found Acorn on the recommendation of a close friend - a complete God send. We were met in the warm center with a lot of compassion, understanding and knowledge! I found that they had amazing birth classes like the Birth Warrior Class, Rooted in Love Childbirth Education courses, Breastfeeding Support Groups and many more! There is beautiful art everywhere in the clinic, each piece coupled with a wonderful story and wow, the midwives and assistant team members are diverse, emotionally and culturally competent and wildly informative. On top of all that, they take Medi-Cal insurance! This became home for the rest of my gestation. My prenatal checks were never rushed, I got great handouts and information to take home. The information I got from midwives Cristi, Michelle and a midwives' assistant Angie, who saw me regularly, was above and beyond what I got from my regular clinic. They never once scared me into a decision, but instead empowered me with knowledge and the tools I needed to have a successful, natural birth at home. We took the Rooted in Love Childbirth education class got great stories from Ginger and her daughter - assistant, Sammie and learned a tremendous amount. When the days started to come in close to birth day, Cristi addressed our every question, spent extra time visiting our home, educating us and preparing us for the journey ahead. Cristi and Angie showed up in great timing and guided us through our water birth effortlessly. In conclusion, Acorn is more than just a birth center, it's a community space for people entering their birth experience, their parties and their families. It's been almost 10 months since I delivered at Acorn. The whole experience was great. From my prenatal visits to the delivery and postnatal care, the team was phenomenal. They answered my million questions without frustration and were always so kind and compassionate. Shaunnti, Kelly, and Irene were my birth team and I am so beyond grateful to them. Kelly saw me the most through my pregnancy and always made me feel good after my visits. She reassured me or gave me advice on things to help me feel better. Shaunnti is the best phlebotomist! I never felt the needle sticks, which never happens to me. Cristi helped me figure out my insurance and I even got refunded when my insurance ended up paying for part of my birth even though my insurance initially said they wouldn't cover any of it. Annie does the best body work. I had terrible pelvic pain and developed stretch marks on my lower abdomen a week or so before I had my baby. She helped stretch out the ligaments that likely were causing some of the discomfort. All around my experience was amazing! Highly recommend anyone wanting a natural out of hospital birth. The most amazing experience I have ever had in my life! My husband & I had our baby at Acorn 2 months ago & I LOVE telling everyone how beautiful it was. Our midwives were Cristi & Kelly but every midwife I had an encounter with, was so educated, kind & truly enjoyed attending to my prenatal needs! I cannot say enough positive things about Cristi & Kelly. I came to Acorn half way through my pregnancy just knowing I wanted a different experience this time around. Cristi gave us our tour & immediately after we left, my husband & I both decided we would ask her to be our midwife. From the beginning she was so warm & welcoming!!!! Kelly didn't even know me (saw me once for about 10 minutes) & I had some varicose veins issues that she remembered & she checked in with me a couple weeks later because she overheard me explaining my issues ! She's also so calm & I knew I needed that in my birth space. Let me tell you, both women really pulled through for us during our entire experience. Poor Kelly, being pregnant herself, was sick & I would've never known because she was still SO attentive! They listened, validated & witnessed my struggles during birth & were my biggest cheerleaders. There was a moment I said I couldn't do it & immediately they told me "yes you can, you are doing it!!" Sure enough, right after, our baby was born! Her cord was wrapped around her neck following her birth & not once did I feel fear. They so calmly communicated to each other & gently removed it. Such a lovely experience all around with Acorn. I found them on Facebook and was able to message with questions as well as text to communicate (which I love). When I was able to come in for my first visit- my husband and I fell in love with the place. The atmosphere was SO homey and welcoming and mellow! All of the ladies there are SO warm and friendly. No one ever made me feel awkward or looked at me funny if I had a weird question. They are great!! I choose Erin as my main midwife because we just clicked immediately! I am so glad I found Acorn Birth Center! I knew right away when I walked into the center that this was where I needed to be to achieve a natural Homebirth. I gave birth to my 3 children in a hospital setting under a traditional OB and felt hindered in my ability to achieve a natural birth. I wanted the birth of my 4th child to be different. I felt supported and empowered at every appointment and learned a lot about nutrition and how to ease common pregnancy ailments naturally. This was the best my body has felt being pregnant and I wish I went this route with my previous pregnancies! When the big day arrived, it was so nice to be in the comfort of my own home. Able to eat, drink, and relax all knowing that my birth team was just a text away. I was able to ride the intense surges and get in my zone with the gentle encouragement of my husband and birth team. The warm water of the birth pool felt amazing! Michelle helped me stay connected and push effectively so that in no time, I caught my sweet little guy myself. Michelle, Cristina, and Kelly were so sweet and attentive. I am so thankful for them! I have to mention Annie's bodywork too. Where do I begin with this amazing place filled of such beautiful souls and people. I walked into an Obgyn office when I was about a month pregnant and within 10 minutes I walked out knowing it wasn't the right place for my baby or I. I somehow later came across acorn , and set up a meeting with Cristi. Our first meeting, before I was even officially a patient, she spent about two hours with us , educating us and answering every question we had (we had a bunch). She really impressed us especially my mom who was apprehensive about this type of prenatal care. Flash forward to 10 months later , all of the women here are nothing short of amazing and educated. They have all been so compassionate and in tune with my body and my baby the entire time. They have taught our family SO much and continue to. From the student midwives, to the midwives, to Cristi the director - everything they've taught us/ continue to is nothing comparable to what a Obgyn or drs office would be willing to provide. Erin my midwife has been such wonderful overall support to me this entire time. Each appointment averages about an hour , sometimes two , I never have felt rushed and am always greeted with smiles and offers for water or tea. Annie provides amazing body work that helped baby and I tremendously and relieved a lot of pain and pressure. Although I didn't get to have my birth here, which I had my heart set on (due to complications with my labor), my son and I remain in their care and I truly wish we could both be cared for by acorn forever. If I could give them 100 stars, I would!! I will forever be grateful to Christi and Annie for helping me birth our second baby. I could literally write a novel of how amazing they are! Everything from prenatal visits through birth through postpartum (with Chanti!) has been amazing. My childbirth was by no means easy but that's exactly why I feel that I couldn't have done it with anyone other than Christi and Annie. These ladies are absolute rockstars! Superheroes! Caring, compassionate, calm, extremely knowledgeable, friendly and with huge hearts and clearly with a 1000% dedication to their chosen profession. They honored and respected my every wish and request, treated me with kindness and provided support and encouragement during the most difficult parts of labor when I was ready to give up from exhaustion and pain. No judgment, just patience, love and showing up for me paired with impressive knowledge. They made the decision for me that I live too far. They didn't ask for my address or any details. Didn't meet with me or even ask how long labor typically is for me. I told them it was only 30 minutes away but they still said it was too far. I'm not asking them to come to me, I would go to them. My family lives in Oceanside, so even closer and I could have easily met them there but they didn't even give me the option. Pretty disappointing. Just wanted to give people a heads up that they seem to have a pretty tight radius for the area they service. 2 stars because the lady was still very professional . I just wish they would've given options instead of a flat no. I would've even moved closer because having a natural birth is very important to me. Bummer. read more

LOVE THIS PLACE. When I was wrongly rejected care from other OBs, not because of high risk or complications, but nearly a ridiculous office prejudice, ACORN wanted me. They didn't make me cry or say, "SORRY, you're 21w along in care, you're too far along. There's nothing we can do for you." Nope, they were kind and said, "YES!" Extremely nice office and atmosphere. Everyone has a smile on their face and actually likes being there, as opposed to a cold OB office where the office staff is just there for the paycheck. The Midwives or students are actually also behind the desk, so there's not miscommunication and random "go-to" people that have to be asked because they don't know. This will be the 4th birth I've had at a Birth Center, and this one tops it! SO SO SO thankful for this place and all the ladies there!!! read more

Although it was my first child and I have no other experience, when comparing our experience to hospital births of our friends I think we had the most amazing experience someone could have. The midwives treat the experience with passion and intelligence. They treat the process as a natural part of our human existence. They know exactly what is going on with baby at each moment and know and understand each change in the birthing experience. This led me to being calm and collected for my wife. It was an amazing experience hands down. Even with insurance at the hospital, and all doctor visits, I think paying for Acorn out of pocket ended up being way less expensive than the typical mode of birth. I can't stress enough how wonderful this place and all the women there are. I had a lot of fears going in to just tour the facility. I knew delivering my baby at a birthing center was exactly what I wanted after 2 hospital births. I was anxious going in. My husband walked in the front door with me, we sat down and waited after they immediately greeted me. He looked at me and said "I can already tell your going to love it here". He was so right! Everything was so warm and inviting. Everything I wanted. So into my prenatal care, I was NEVER rushed through an appointment, ALWAYS greeted by name. They took the time to get to know me, which meant so much to me. They connected with me and my baby every appointment and made me feel so comfortable in every decision I made. They educated me on things I didn't know. I went over my "estimated" due date by a week and two days. I never once felt pressured to hurry things along. In fact cristi would call me and check in and never made it seem like I needed to hurry. When I told her I was just relaxing and waiting she said good enjoy it! And before you knew it baby girl was on her way, I showed up to the birthing center (after I was in contact with Cristi about contractions, she responded to my texts IMMEDIATELY and called to speak with me about the contractions) when I arrived, they knew I wanted to be in the water.. I walked in the lights were dim, they had the room ready and the bath tub running.. it felt like a spa. I was so relieved to see cristi and the birthing team! They all took turns helping me with counter pressure and assured I had everything I needed (including my husband) the entire time. Continuously brought me ice cold water that I loved and my fresh cut up fruit (thank you Nikki for making it easier to eat!) baby came and my husband and I were able to fully enjoy our baby how we wanted. They helped take care of me and were so gentle with my little one. Never rushed me for anything. Once I was cleaned up and ready to go, I went home and got to enjoy my family in the comfort of my own home. After care has been amazing, they came to my home to check on me and baby, if I do decide to have a 4th child, there is no where else I would go for any amount of money! I came to Acorn very skeptical of doing a birth outside of the hospital, but knowing I wanted a better experience than my two previous hospital births. From my first appointment I was impressed with Cristi and how knowledgeable and caring she was. She took her time to get to know my family. My appointments with my previous OB were very short and I always left feeling like I didn't cover all my concerns etc. Cristi Ann and Annie always took time to make sure they answered all of my questions and concerns and then some. I always left feeling content. When we were on baby watch I never had a time that I couldn't reach Cristi. No matter what time I called she answered. She even texted me the one time she was turning her phone off for two hours with back up instructions in case I needed someone during that time. When I was in labor they gave my husband great pointers on how to comfort me and where to apply pressure for relief. They know what they are doing! Postpartum care has been absolutely amazing they come to your house and have even come out extra for me to ease any concerns I have had. My baby is so heathy and I know this natural birth has been the best thing I could do for her. My husband and I are closer after this experience and I am so very happy that we chose this route. It wasn't until my fourth pregnancy that I finally found the bravery to go through a birth center. With my first, I was induced and the cocktail of medication they gave me knocked me out to the point that I didn't remember the birth or the day after. 15 years later it still breaks my heart that I can't remember the birth of my son. With my second and third babies, I was able to avoid all interventions in a hospital setting, but it still was too procedural and trying to get the birth I hoped for was a battle against the nurses. With both babies, nurses were rushing in last minute to barely catch the baby because, as I warned them, I progress very quickly. With my fourth, I finally decided to seek out something better. As soon as I met Cristi and her amazing staff, I knew I had found something different, something special. Even my husband who wasn't on board with the birth center idea was all team Acorn after touring the center. "I can tell you're going to love it here" he said and he was right! The care I received was a night-and-day difference from what I'd received in the past. It wasn't the cut-and-paste appointment I was used to. I wasn't just another patient on a conveyer belt. It was personal. Honestly, it was fun! The ladies were warm and happy. Their confidence about birth was contagious. My previous non-medicated births had been painful to the point that I was a bit traumatized and I was very fearful. The first thing that went through my mind to be honest when I found out I was pregnant is "I can't do that again". The more time I spent with these women, the better and more self-confident I felt. When the day (or rather night) came, we called Cristi about an hour after closing to tell her we were on our way. Even though I told her I thought it might be a false alarm, by the time we got to the center, my team was all there and ready to go. The room was warm with soft lighting and they were prepping the tub just as I'd requested. The entire experience was so far above and beyond what I'd expected. It was amazing! My team were so kind and gentle. They were so intuitive and knew how best to support me every step of the way. My baby came just before 4am and it was really a miraculous experience. Such a difference from the hospital. They watched my body for signs of tension and helped me to breathe and relax which is a huge pain reliever during labor. Rachel applied pressure to my tailbone during the final stages and it provided immense comfort. It was such an easy labor, I know I could do it again with their loving help and support. If we decide to round out our family with another baby, I will be back for sure! I wish I could have had such an amazing experience with my previous births but the experiences I did have allow me to appreciate this one all the more. Words cannot express how grateful we are to the whole team at Acorn. We are Intended Parents who worked with an amazing surrogate who lives in Northern CA. When time to have baby arrived we went to tour a hospital in North County San Diego. We agreed that the environment didn't feel good for us and last minute we toured Acorn and they accommodated us. They were warm, loving, welcoming and friendly and their birth center feels like a beautiful comforting home with birthing rooms, a patio, kitchen, playroom for kiddos, and they just make it all feel like you are part of the family. The birth itself was incredible. The birthing tubs, the different tools to help the mothers birth. And the group of women were all coming together to bring our baby girl into the world. They were respectful of our unique surrogate situation, making sure they took great care of our surro, us, and our baby. During the birth itself, the owner, Christi stepped in when the baby's shoulder got stuck and she knew exactly what to do to save our baby's life! Then after she was born, her breath rate was elevated. They brought in a chiropractor, Annie, to help from the birth trauma and she was like the baby whisperer. Our daughter enjoyed the massage! We all debated on whether baby should be transferred to NICU for elevated breathing but Christi said she looked completely healthy separate from that and was very comforting in helping us make the right decision. She stayed up with us after everyone went home to keep checking on baby and she even slept a couple of hours and let us nap, too. Well, she was right! Baby ended up being just fine and Christi came all the way to our home in Temecula to give baby exam next morning after NO sleep. She then came the following day to check on our surrogate as well. The midwife Josie also texted me before and after the birth with tips, advice, etc. And the entire midwife team including Allison, Anne, Annie, and Josie came together to bring this beautiful life into this world. It was amazing how much girl power was in one room and the baby was delivered into a dimly lit, coccoon of love and calmness by women who obviously give their hearts and souls to what they do. Many of them stayed until 12:30 am even though they little ones of their own at home. This was my first birth to witness and what a complete miracle. I am sooooooo beyond glad I had my baby at Acorn Birth Center. I was so happy that the baby was put on me right after the birth and I am so glad I got to experience the magic and beauty of a natural birth. I also love that they have all these wonderful natural products to help baby that we would never be able to get at a hospital like cord care herbs that are helping her umbilical cord stump dry out quickly and naturally to fall off. We are so happy we didn't have the bright light cold impersonal vibe of the hospital with pushing of medical intervention at every step. I am so glad our baby came into the world this way!!
