This is the worst company ever, they are shameless. My father paid over $7,000 for his chair and 5 months later, after having called the company for help, it stopped in the middle of the stairs with my father on it. We had to carry him the rest of the way up the stairs which was scary and dangerous. When I called Acorn (again) to please come service it they told me that the soonest they could be there was a week! When I asked them how I was supposed to get my father down the stairs in the meantime they actually told me to call 911. It is bad enough having to care for a sick and dying parent, having to deal with this horrible company just compounded everything. Avoid them at all costs. read more

My disabled Veteran wife has been trapped in our house and when she contacted them with the serial number, she was given the dealer phone number who originally installed it but neglected to inform us that the Acorn dealer was no longer in business. They gave us the runaround instead of originally using their supposed protocol for handling the situation. Our stairlift stopped functioning after a power failure. We contacted the company immediately. It took over a week for a technician to come. He was unable to fix all that was wrong, but said it would work "for awhile". One trip up the stairs and it stopped working. Because of the holiday, it took 5 days to reach the company again. They then gave us a date to fix it that was 10 days in the future. When we complained that my husband has had recent leg surgery, I have severe COPD, and my sister-in-law is 90 and wears a leg brace, uses a walker, they moved the date up to 5 days away. This is unacceptable, especially since we have their best service plan, which was several hundred dollars. Our next call will be the Better Business Bureau. read more

Acorn Stairlifts is happy to come out and install your newly purchased stairlift from them. But good luck if you need service. They say someone will get back to you within 24 to 48 hours. It's been two weeks and three of my calls to them back and I still don't have a date for them to come out. Only a cost of $736 for a one year service agreement or $825 for what they say the problem is without seeing it, with no service agreement. Terrible " gotcha! " company. Stay away. Search Acorn reviews on the internet ..EVERYBODY hates them. I only needed to order a cover that I cracked. They have a "gotcha!' business model. They said before I can get a new cover I needed to pay for a service call to come out and inspect the unit to see if the stairlift is installed to their standards, if not, I would need to correct it. Then after that, I have to pay for a second service call for a service man to come out. Maybe he will bring a cover with him, maybe he won't if its not in stock. Renewed our contract recently. Set up an appointment for a checkup and a new battery for our stairlift. Appointment day came and it was for a window of 7am-1pm. Around 12:45 I called and was told the tech was in Jersey. I am in Pennsylvania. And he assured me that he will be at my house. I called 2 more times and the office couldn't get a response from the tech. He never showed up or called us. Called again and spoke to Fernando. He offered us a tech the next day, which we booked. I asked if we would get compensation for the day spent waiting and was told that I can call but I doubt you will get anything. Once you buy the stairlift you are at their mercy. I purchase this starlit a month ago and I had some issues. I called to get a technical to come to the house. After the issues was corrected the I was told that I had to pay a service fee $250. I wasn't happy. Today I had the pleasure of speaking with a manager and was told that as a courtesy they would wave the $250 fee. I'm happy with my starlit and the service that I received. We have had 8 breakdowns in less than two years of owning our acorn stairlift. That's not the only part I'm unhappy with, it gets worse. The $10000. unit had a very limited warranty so we purchased the insurance to have repairs done. The repair techs have been great. They try their hardest to get the unit to run properly. My complaint is the service program stinks. They won't fix anything on a weekend and usually it has been several days to get a tech out to the house to make repairs. No one orders a stairlift for convenience, it is an everyday necessity. The company needs to change their repair policies to include quick service to get the lift working properly. Very disappointing repair program that needs to be fixed from the upper management of the company. read more

I have a contract with Acorn which promises service 24/7. I paid $800 for this contract. I am in my late 80s living in a two story house. Last Sunday my chair ceased working. There was no answer at their Customer Service number. When I reached a person on Monday, they said they couldn't get here until Friday. I strongly recommend against using Acorn. Where is the Bettter Business Bureau? If there is a negative rating, that's what they deserve. read more
