The atmosphere may look nice, but that does not make up for poor-quality food, questionable drinks, and prices that do not match what you're actually getting. It offers four salads, eleven cold tapas or small plates, fifteen hot tapas, and five dessert tapas. It's quite an elegant restaurant. You have the choice of sitting outside the main dining room in the atrium, or in the main dining room, which we chose. But we noticed it was noisy inside- perhaps a result of the open kitchen and bar areas that weren't too far from our seats, so we heard the shake, rattle, and roll of every dish, pot, and pan. Before we ordered, we were served a welcome drink that was excellent (some sort of strawberry and vodka concoction) and a basket with two small loaves of bread. The waiter very ceremoniouslly poured oil and a splash of vinegar into our three bread plates. We had a blast ordering. The waiter suggested we each order one salad, one cold tapas and four hot tapas. So we ended up with like 20 different things that all looked beautiful. My wife and son ordered the mozzarealla pizza from the hot menu, but it wasn't hot at all- kind of unappealingly warm. Here is my report on the tapas I tried: The greek salad was very good- lots of olives, which as an olive guy I appreciated, plus diced tomatoes, onions, peppers and crumbled feta cheese. An excellent cold soup (Ajo Blanco) served in what looked like a test tube with about a quarter cup of shrimp tartar. The shrimp tartar was delicious. Charcoal grilled octopus was a big chunk of an octo's tentacle served with potatoes in a sweet paprika oil. I didn't care for this at all. I've had octopus a few times and liked it, but this dish tasted a lot stronger than I expected. Black Baby Squid over wild rice - not a fan - it just wasn't something I liked, aesthetically so and taste wise. Pan fried shrimp with curry and chick peas over wild rice. Wonderful - my favorite dish of the evening - just bursting with flavor. I would have loved a big plate of it. Braised Veal Cheek with cauliflower and mushrooms. It had a very soft and delicate texture and was pretty good. King scallops with a green bean and pork ragout - another very good dish. Dessert tapas on the menu were a variety of sorbets, churros, ice creams, tiramiso and a custard. I ordered the vanilla custard, and it was very ordinarily flan-like. On the other hand, the Nutella ice cream was absolutely sensational. Our server was helpful and not intrusive, he explained the tapas concept and was swift in clearing the table and refilling the beverages. All in all, we had an enjoyable time and a pretty good meal.

Then, on the day of our reservation, the guys decided they wanted to join us too - suddenly we were a group of 21! La Sirena graciously accommodated all of us without missing a beat. I had pre-ordered appetizers- delicious roasted Cheese Saganaki, Fried Calamari, Tirokafteri, Tzatziki + 4 or 5 more, including mac and cheese. Every one of them was a hit! I was covering for the group, and from there the staff took everyone's individual drink and additional food orders and even helped us manage separate checks. With a group that large, that alone is impressive! The service was fabulous, the food was excellent, the sunset atmosphere was beautiful, and the live band was fantastic. We had such a fun night. But it didn't stop there. A few days later, we chartered a fishing boat and came back with mahi-mahi, amberjack, and porgy. We brought our catch to La Sirena, and they prepared it for us - grilled and fried - and served it with fries and an absolutely fantastic salad for only $15 per person! It was delicious and an incredible value. My picture does not do it justice - it was excellent! They even helped package all of our leftover fish into separate containers so we could take it back to our hotel and share it with members of our group who hadn't gone fishing. And THEN there was the margarita glass! We loved La Sirena so much that we bought one of their beautiful handmade margarita glasses to bring home. Sadly, despite our best efforts, it was completely crushed during our trip home. I reached out to Anthony, and he was wonderful. He worked with me to arrange for a replacement glass to be shipped safely to us with insurance. That level of customer service -especially after we'd already returned home -says so much about this restaurant and the people who work there. From accommodating our last-minute group of 21, to the wonderful service and live music, to preparing our freshly caught fish, to helping replace our treasured margarita glass, La Sirena truly went above and beyond for us again and again. We can't say enough good things about this place. If you're visiting Puerto Morelos, do yourself a favor and go to La Sirena. Great food, wonderful people, fantastic atmosphere, and some of the best service we experienced during our entire trip. Thank you, La Sirena and Anthony, for helping make our trip so memorable. The service was excellent- they were very enthusiastic and entertaining, bringing out countless celebratory shots and sparklers. Speaking of entertainment, there were fire dancers and a flutist and they insisted that we stand on our chairs to dance! I've never been to a restaurant like this before but I loved every minute. We were so distracted by the entertainment that we didn't realize how long it took for the food to arrive. The wait time was understandable due to our party size. I had the seafood spaghetti, which was just ok. I was expecting the sauce to be lighter and but it was a bit thick. It was well seasoned, maybe just a little too much salt. I still enjoyed it. The serving sizes were huge for most of the dishes and defining sharable but everyone had their own entree. I'd highly recommend this place for date night or a celebratory dinner. I'd love to come back and check out the beach club.
