Ted,owner, confirms that the tire indeed needs attention. He tells me his crew arrives at 8 AM and will check it out then. I grimace - I'm about to miss 2 meetings. He then says "Use my loaner to get to those meetings and stop back late morning." Which I gratefully did. They took my car right in (it was a Saturday afternoon) and had it done within an hour. I walked across the street (which was an adventure on the corner of Clover and Monroe) to Brueggers and then to Starbucks while I waited (which was much better than waiting in a waiting room) which was nice. I came back a little over 30 minutes later and they brought my car back out to me and I was on my way. Price wasn't bad, and I tend to trust a place like this more than a Jiffy Lube so I will definitely be back.

Assuming that traditional body work was required, I went to a reputable body work shop and subsequently was sent an estimate. Yelp steered me in a better direction. The doctor's procedures were more straightforward, didn't require repainting and his estimate was less than half of the body shop's and cut the time to part of a day instead of 2 days. The job was done promptly and properly - you'd be hard pressed to located where the dents were. There's another reason you should visit the doctor - these guys are easily some of most nicest (for lack of better words) you'll meet - they will treat you well.

Scot verbally quoted $400.00 Scott also confirmed the $400.00 price via text. I drove out to the business and the moment I got there Scott's memory began to rapidly decay. "I didn't give you a price did I ? " ( No Scott I randomly wanted to WASTE my time and drive 30 miles out of the way ). I quickly confirmed the stated price ( it was clear Scott wanted to renege me on the price ). Interesting how Scott wasn't willing to give a cash discount but was willing g to not charge tax so he will gladly have the customer only get a measly 8% discount while he will take a 35% freebie from taxes. I offered to split it but Scott was greedy and repeated he will "let" me pay $400.00 cash ( Thank you Scott mighty kind of you ) While on phone we both discussed the approx length of the crease I stated "approx 10" Scott repeated what I said So Scott starts pounding on door then suddenly "needs more" money Scot stated a body shop "will charge $3,000.00" to repair the door - actually Scott the price is $1,400.00 plus tax So basically Scott is fine to 1.) not pay his taxes 2.) not provide a discount while he's getting a cash ( no tax is NOT a discount - it's being GREEDY 3.) allow me to drive 30 miles 4.) not keep his word 5.) state a ridiculous repair "at a body shop" 6.) increase his price 200% 7.) have a failing memory about price and the phone convo Anyone that is a moving target such as Scott is not anyone I'd recommend - NEVER. Breaks still screwed up after taking it back to fix. Now they have to fix them for the 3rd time, same problem, ribbing and squealing! The can't give me a time for appt. I have to leave my car for the 3rd time which is a grave inconvenience as I don't have another car to drive. They usually don't have it done that day, and the repair pushes to the next day. I drive my car for a living and can't go without my car sooo many times for the same problem!! Then I had them replace the breaking light bar as it stopped working. After pulling my car apart to do this, it was never put back the way it was. Panels not connected in the trunk and in the back seat!! It's unfortunate as this garage is close to me so I can walk back home after leaving the car up-teem many times, but to the point of being ridiculous!! I do not recommend this garage!!

When, during your cross-country roadtrip in an '84 Vanagon Westphalia is interrupted, just like…read morethat-- it is always like this, with cars with people; we, ourselves, are probably too old, in our middle 60's, to have undertaken this trip at all, sans air-conditioning, with our sweet eight-year-old dog-- on Hwy 90 in Fingerlakes region of New York (so close to making it all the way across!), the sudden loss of power indicating something grave, you are thinking, like the main drive belt, & you pull over (plenty of room for a tow-truck, just in case), & toss out all the luggage in back because underneath it is the old engine & you have *two* spare drive belts & can do this repair yourself! Only you can see immediately that the belt is fine. You start the car again: no gears to shift into; we lost the clutch, you are thinking. Then the superb tow-truck driver at Farmington Towing (shout-out! sorry I forgot your name; see: "mid-60's), suggests I call CDI in Victor while he's up-loading the van & Mike, co-owner, answers the phone & says, "I don't even have anywhere to *put* your car & we're booking out three weeks from now & one of our mechanics is on vacation, but, sure, bring it by." Apologies for suspending the punchline for so long, but, after renting a car (shout out to the local Enterprise & Caleb) & thinking we'd be spending the next week exploring the Fingerlakes for the next week (we're fine with that: see "mid-60's), & spending the night in a sweet & vacant yurt (shout-out Plum Point Lodge), Mike at CDI has, overnight!, determined that the clutch cable & assembly are actually fine & that what need repairing are the CV joint & boot (so doable, especially when, as owner, you have a thing for old vw vans & have spare parts in abundance!). Mike has our van back on the road in 24 hours (backup on the lot be damned; he's committed to "getting us back on the road" to complete our cross-country road-trip)! Robert (shout-out: a mechanic who works with Mike) identifies an axel issue (that would have been big trouble further down the road) as well, so they fix that, too. All this to say that CDI Auto Repair in Victor, NY, is one of those magical, necessary stops along the road you didn't even know you needed to encounter. Now writing from Maine just a couple of days later: my grandfather was a great & honest auto mechanic; I know them when I happen upon them. (Shout-out also to Garrett at C & G Auto Repair in Hanksville, UT for his own skillful & timely work to keep us going). By luck we pulled in here, to inspect our car and get off the road. They were closed but by chance a gentleman was doing inventory or some extra work. He came out to see if we needed any help. He got on the cold snow covered ground and went to work locating the hole. He quickly determined he could patch the tire for us and did so. He could have stayed inside we would have never known he was there. We knew the facility was closed, we just pulled in to get off the road. He actually called two places and gave me the number of a third for the type of tire that was sold in Ohio. As a single mom, I didn't have a ride home. The father, Jeff, was evasive and unreachable at times. Driving to the garage my car was parked in the same spot got nearly 30 days. All the while Jeff knew I needed my car, that I was going into debt in order to rent a vehicle so my daughter nor I lost our jobs, we could go on dr visits and get groceries.
