"So, what's wrong with it?" That was the question my wife asked me when I found the Toyota Tacoma pickup truck at Action Automotive Service in Hudson, New York. For months, we had been searching for a small, four-wheel-drive, light duty pickup truck that would replace our farm truck we have owned for many years. We were specifically looking for a Toyota Tacoma, because our friend and mechanic has owned several of them over the years and recommended the Tacoma for longevity and durability. We didn't need a new truck, but wanted one at a reasonable price, in good condition. Most of the trucks I found online had extremely high mileage; in excess of 180,000 to 240,000 miles. The price ranges for these vehicles were way above what we wanted to pay, until I found the perfect tuck at the dealership in Hudson. My wife and I own a small farm in central Pennsylvania, so the commitment to drive two hundred forty-plus miles to look at a used truck was considerable. This Tacoma had less than 100,000 miles on it which, for what we were looking for, fit our criterion for purchase. Action Automotive posted pictures online from every angle, showing the condition and detail of the pickup. It looked terrific. I called the number on the website and spoke to John Rapp, the owner of the dealership. I explained to John what we were looking for and inquired about his Tacoma. I immediately felt comfortable with his direct answers to my questions, in fact, he volunteered information about the truck that I had not asked. I had already run a Carfax search on the truck and studied its history. It was very clean. My concern was undercarriage rust because it had been on the Gulf coast of Florida for several years. John told me right up front he replaced the rear bumper because of rust, but other than that, it was a really good truck. What I didn't tell John on the phone was that my wife comes from a long line of car dealers. Her grandfather owned a dealership in Colorado and her father was a master salesman. The price for the truck was well below market value. When I told her about finding the Tacoma and my conversations with John, the first thing she asked me was, "so, what's wrong with it?" I told her I couldn't find anything wrong with it from the photos, the research and discussions I had with John. I thought we should go look at it. She agreed, so, we drove the two hundred and forty-plus miles (through a major snow storm) to see this truck. It was a long trip. John was expecting us and was completely prepared when we got there. He was very personable at made us feel right at home. His office was comfortable and asked if we wanted to take the truck for a test drive. Of course we did. He handed us the keys and off we went for a short test drive. The Tacoma performed just as John said it would. He said it was a good truck; it was a great truck! We drove back to the lot after our test drive. I looked around at the other vehicles for sale to see what the inventory was like. Each one was in excellent condition and meticulously maintained. We purchased the truck right then and there. John took us to the Department Motor Vehicles to facilitate the title transfer. Nothing could have been easier. The true test was the drive back home to Pennsylvania. I could not believe what a comfortable ride this little pickup offered. Our friend and mechanic gave the Tacoma a thorough assessment prior to having its State Inspection. He was very impressed with its overall condition and mechanical soundness. He told us we did very well with this purchase. In this age if distrust and unscrupulous characters in our society, it is refreshing to find an honest business owner like John Rapp at Action Automotive Service in Hudson, New York. John is a no nonsense NY guy. A businessman in the business of selling used cars. I hate it when smoke gets blown up my ... So it was refreshing to deal with John. The first thing I did was stand him up on an agreed upon meeting time but he didn't hold that against me. Then I drove several cars before deciding on one. After working up the deal and getting it ready I again through him a curve and decided against my choice. I did find another car on the lot that I was more comfortable with, he threw me the keys and told me to take all the time I wanted with it. Then was very cordial in working up the new paperwork and loan for me. I felt a little bad about it but John reminded me it was my money and I should get what I want. Well I did! A beautiful 06 Camry with only 55k. I'm super happy with it and it came with a warranty as well. You never know with a used car though. Heck it might blow up after 6 mo's right? Riiiight. I was offered an excellent extended warranty but declined it. My choice! And if it does have issues in the future I won't be looking back at John for the fix. He gave me a car fax on the car strait away without me asking for it as well. Just a strait up deal as transparent as they come with used cars. I would recommend John to anyone, even my daughters although I'll probably go with them lol. And I know where I'll be looking first the next time I need a car! read more

I Recently purchased a 2102 Ford F-150 from John/Keith. I have bought and sold many many vehicles in my lifetime. As we all know these experiences are not always pleasant. In this case however, I was very very happy with the transaction. In particular, with this truck, there were some minor things and one major one I wanted addressed which I did not realize when I purchased the Truck. The main issue was that the Moon Roof was not functioning properly. I call John immediately when I realized the problem. Without hesitation, John said bring the car back and we will correct the problem. As it turned out, a roof new unit from Ford was needed (not cheap). John ordered parts and corrected the problem with no cost to me. It is nice to know that in these crazy times that there are still people who care enough about their business to DO THE RIGHT THING. I am very impressed with this dealership, John is a very easy going guy and a pleasure to do business with ,I did not feel pressured at any time to buy a car from him. All though he probably would have let me test drive every car on the lot I had an exact make and model in mind . So I already knew what I wanted. The vehicle had low miles , the car fax was available and the interior was very clean , We negotiated and agreed on a price, The next step was a little tricky, because i live and hour and half from the dealer , but it all worked out , 2 days later I got a call that the vehicle was all serviced , a couple of minor things fixed and was ready to go. I was looking for a shop to repair my clutch/transmission. Called a few I found online looking for prices. John offered me a great price and service as did a few others but he was much easier of a person to talk to n didn't try to upsale me on tune ups n other junk I didn't need. He knew exactly what kinda car i have needing repairs he happened to have the same car on his lot just 3 years newer. I went by the dealership with intention to have my car repaired not to buy a car at all. After talking with John n looking at the car on his lot he made me such a great offer I decited to get rid of my car n I purchesed the car he had on his lot for very close to the same price that fixing my car would have been. I have bought, sold or traded many cars with him. My latest is a Finnish made Porche Boxter V-6 Automatic S. He got it for me from CA/AZ area where it never saw salt or snow with low milage. Hopefully my review stays up this time--I bought an SUV here 7 months ago and have had my car at the most 3. Why you may ask, well because its a lemon! First it was simple things, an airbags light, then it was not so simple things like transmission then a head and head gasket. Now I am stuck because it needs a whole new engine because the engine block is cracked. Now, i am most definitely bitter BUT that is not why i'm writing this review. I am writing this review to try and save someone else out there the misery i'm going through every day without a car i just bought in September. I got my old car towed by John with the intention of having it fixed. He gave me MUCH more than my 1999 Buick LeSabre was worth and gave me a great deal on a minivan. We discussed the price. I shook his hand and we had a deal. I came back the next day with the money and was driving off the lot within 10 minutes. He had all the paperwork in order. Great experience, got a very nice 2015 CRV with low miles at a very fair price. Worked directly with John the owner who made everything very smooth and easy--he took care of DMV reg, license and state inspection. Even gave me a bowl of soup! I ordinarily don't buy from dealers but this time am glad I did. We expected to drive around looking at lots of vehicles as this was the first we looked at, but it turned out to be perfect for us.
