Well, we've lived in our new house for a little over a year, and a few days ago our garage door opener went on the fritz. It wouldn't close, just would go down about 8"--once about halfway, then back up, like there was an obstruction, but there wasn't. It was installed by Action Garage Door, so I gave them a call. The woman that answered had me go through some trouble shooting, and showed me how to bypass the sensors and close the door by holding the button down. It was determined that we needed a technician to come out, and the earliest appointment was in two days. Fair enough. I was given a four hour window, from 12-4 pm. At 11:35, Cody called me up and asked if he could come over, that he was 10 minutes away. I said heck yeah! That was nice, him coming before the four-hour window even started. Cody was a nice young man who got right to work diagnosing the problem. Turned out it was a faulty wire. Surprising, for a two-year-old house that was new when we bought it and only lived in for a little over a year. Cody couldn't tell me what might have caused the problem, but he offered me a fix--external wiring to bypass the problem wire to the two door sensors. He made it look clean and hardly noticeable. He also lubricated our door rollers. My wife and I are back in business. The cost was very reasonble considering that he was at our home for 90 minutes. Two experiences now with Action Garage door and we've been pleased both times. We will continue to utilize them for all our garage door needs. read more

I am extremely satisfied with the work done by Austin and Zayvin. My garage door appeared to go out of alignment at 10:30 pm. They installed a commercial overhead door on our shop. It took several trips to complete the job with many technicians to get it installed correctly. Some techs knew what they were doing, others were clueless and did not care. I heard that it was under new ownership since summer of 2024 and service is not very reliable. My garage door wouldn't open, Action tech Austin came out and said we needed a universal torque kit and quoted almost 1500.00. After giving the check we were told they don't give paper invoices nor paperwork on warranty. The invoice came via email and was very generic. I asked for itemized statement because I looked up this kit online and highest price was 300.00. I still haven't gotten anything with an actual brand name part with part number. I called couple other companies and was told this kit with install should be no more then 500.00 on the high end. I was taken advantage of and the price was gouged. read more

Our garage door kept refusing to go down at the worst times. Hard to figure out why, but I was suspecting mis-alignment of the object sensors. Couldn't find anything blocking the beam however. So I called Action for a service call based on the good reviews I read. They were booked out 2-3 weeks, but for an emergency service they could be there within the day. Went for that option even though it was a bit expensive But when you need it done, you need to pay for good service. The Tech knew his stuff. It seemed that the builders didn't install the doors securely enough to forestall vibrations and misalignment of the sensors. He quickly installed extra bolts and lubed the rails and rollers. Our garage door broke on a weekend, so we called their emergency line on a Saturday night (7-17-21) to have them come on Sunday morning. Someone came out and took a look and helped get our garage door in a workable place temporarily. He was great. The emergency visit cost $180. No problem. We were told that this $180 would end up going towards the final cost to fix the door. I was told when paying the $180 that an estimate for the broken door panel would be sent to us via email, and it was, and I immediately agreed to it online. It was $975 for the cost of the door and labor. All good. I was then told that "one of the girls in the office" would be in touch on Monday to go over everything. They never called. I then called after-hours on Monday to leave a message that I was curious about my estimate and wanted to just get a picture of what the plan was and asked if someone could call me back. I received a voice message at 8:20am on Tuesday, saying "if you still need service, call us back". Nothing about my voicemail or estimate was mentioned. It was a generic call back. I waited to see if I was going to get another call specifically about my estimate thinking that maybe they were just really busy. Nothing. Nothing on Wednesday. On Thursday I called them again and talked to someone that seemed confused when looking up my estimate. After finding my estimate in the system, they told me that the part was ordered and that they would get me an eta and call me right back. They never called back. I called after-hours again and left a message about my estimate and that I was somewhat frustrated that I was still in the dark about what was going on. The next morning I got a call back at 8:30am on Friday with the same generic message that if I still needed service to call them. Frustrating to say the least. So, my wife called Friday afternoon, and she was able to get a few more answers. Our door panel replacement will not arrive until November and apparently the $180 that we were told would go towards the final estimate of $975 was not accurate, and that only the labor costs ($95) would be waived. I have no issue with the costs, but so far my experience with this company and their lack of clear communication has been subpar, which is the frustrating part. As of right now, I would say to look elsewhere to avoid these kind of easily avoidable frustrations that this company has self-inflicted by their lack of clear communication. read more

Action provided garage doors and auto openers for our new home. This supplier, chosen by our builder, was one of the few on the project that showed up on time and did what they said they would do. Not without hiccups. But the problems were well resolved. So this review will comment on Action and the general contractor given in home construction everything is related to everything else. Bottom line: were we needing garage doors or openers again, Action Garage Doors would be at the top of our list. Were we building again, we would not use the general contractor. SELECTION A very good selection of styles and qualities in garage doors and opening systems. The staff knows the features and functions of all and can help homeowners make selections that fit form and function and stay within budget. There are several sample doors in the office / showroom and also brochures available. INTEGRITY Owner, Billy, is top notch for knowledge and also running the business with integrity, based on our work with him. We met him early one morning at the office (as I recall he's there as early as 6a every day) and reviewed several options. The tailored styled, super well insulated doors (our garages face due south so that is important) he helped us select were a better fit with the home design and several hundred dollars less expensive than the door the builder used as 'placeholder'. Billy also recommended we invest in better garage door openers than the builder's specification, which we were pleased to do based on his clear description of function. Happy news was net cost for doors plus openers was several hundred dollars saved for us. Billy provided the new cost numbers and told us he would send the adjusted invoice to the builder the next day. Which he did. In the interim, we told Billy that we would let the builder know the choices made and the cost savings they should see in the revised invoice. Which we did. Imagine our surprise when the builder's bill to us reflected the original, higher, price for these items and not the newer, lower total plus the expected builder markup. When we advised the builder's rep of the problem of billing being out of whack with expectations, the response was this, nearly verbatim: "This is why we don't want suppliers discussing price with clients." Really? No kidding. Not "Sorry, we'll fix our billing error. Thanks for letting us know." Nope. In three previous custom home builds, our builders wanted suppliers to share builders' discount price with us so everyone was on the same page. It is how homeowners make decisions to stay on budget. It is also how homeowners double check for accuracy in builder billing after adding in the contract specified builder mark ups. Because Billy operates with transparency and had been in full disclosure with us about prices, we knew what to expect from the builder in billing. When the builder's bill was higher, we knew there was an error somewhere so we did not overpay due to builder admin error. On the builder's part, staff makes errors at times so no worries there but this builder's staff made a lot of them and there was never apology. INSTALLATION PROBLEM QUICKLY RESOLVED On the day the garage door opening system was being installed my husband noticed the openers on site were the lesser powered, lower cost units than we ordered and paid for. Once installed it would have been more effort to get the items uninstalled and replaced and cost Action money in labor time. The time for quality control was before these went in. The builder's project supervisor was not available so my husband asked the Action installers to check their work order to see what was specified. The lower function unit is was on their orders from the builder. At my husband's request, the Action guys stopped installation until the builder's rep could talk to their boss. Sure enough, the work order was wrong. A day or two later the right units were installed. But this was a pattern during this build, unlike any we've ever had in the past, where my husband and I seemed the ones doing the QC (quality control) to ensure what was ordered and what was used on site matched up. In our past builds, the general contractor did that checking before all installations. THIS N THAT: 1) PARKING: Located in one of the area's myriad of small industrial strip mall sites, this has a small lot associated. 2) ACCESSIBILITY: Accessible parking spot in the lot and accessible route to and through the door. 3) APPOINTMENT: Given how much building is going on and how busy Action is, my advice is call for an appointment if you need to get some advice. I backed into my brand new garage door on a Sunday And way overpaid another company to get my car out, who then quoted me $1600 to replace a couple of panels then told me i May be able to get the price down if i talk to the sales manager. Why wouldn't they have just given me a fair price to start with? So i called Action Garage Door and not only where the panels half the price, but they also gave me a second option that was under $200 since the panels weren't damaged too badly if i was most interested in saving money. The company I work for called Action as well as 2 other door companies for repair to a dock door. The other two came out looked at the door in question, inspected the others, were done in less than a half hour, and then sent the quotes. Action came out looked at the door in question, inspected the others, took almost 3 hours doing so, then told us we owed over $600 COD just for the inspection to quote. After a few calls and complaints we finally got this reduced some but he didnt even fix anything. Needless to say we will not be using them. read more

Both time Action was terrible and they could not get my doors. On my house they ordered the doors when the foundation was being poured and after 5 months they could not deliver. Unreliable service and customer service. I have dealt with bad businesses before and this was probably the worst. The owner himself is a jerk and doesn't care for the customers. They have been a no-show a few times and super aggressive when you confront them on it. Even if you have a scheduled appointment they don't show up or call to advise they are not coming. If it wasn't for the home builders choice of garage companies I wouldn't use them or RECOMMEND them. I hope they actually start losing contracts with the home builders. read more

We recently had both of our garage doors replaced, and they replaced both on separate occasions. The repairman worked speedily and were done within 15 minutes each time. They know how to treat their customers as well as leave their work to speak for itself. In addition, both repairman cleaned up after themselves as well. Contacted Action Garage Doors as the spring had broke, was told that the earliest appointment was a week out. They offered to have an emergency visit for $95, but the rep advised against doing this, as she wasn't sure they would even have the parts on hand to fix it, so unless we needed to get our vehicles out of the garage it could be a week to get the parts anyhow. And like a lot of service companies, our appointment was between 8-Noon, so we had to be home. My wife was home, and she is really good at handling these types of issues, and she is a therapist, so she is really good with people. About 2 minutes into the conversation, my wife called me as the price tag was going up quickly as the tech made it seem like our garage door was shot, and replacing the spring was only advised if we replaced the bottom two panels of the 4-panel garage door system (Wayne Dalton). I ended up meeting with the tech, and his first upsell was to recommend going to an external spring system. And then he strongly advised replacing the two bottom panels, which cost $700/ each. All in, the tech was recommending a complete garage door replacement for $3k, or we could go the cheap route and replace the bottom panel for $700. Plus, the cost of the spring is $520, but he was recommending we upgrade to the external springs as they can lift a lot more weight, which would cost $900. Plus there was an added service call fee of $95. We used Action Garage Doors in 2016 and I thought they did a really nice job. They came out next day, and all in with a new spring was $200. And he ended up fixing a couple of brackets and adding some extra screws as these garage doors are foam wrapped in tin foil. (slight exageration, it is 24 gage sheet metal). I asked the service tech if they had a way to support the existing garage door without replacing the panel, and pointed out how their last tech did it. I was told that they do not have other options, and the way the last tech did it is no longer an option due to 'liability reasons'. I asked about the pricing, since the quote was $500+ at the low side, and he said that the market has changed and although they once were a low-cost option, that the cost of materials, labor and fuel has gone up and they have adjusted their pricing accordingly. I challenged the assertion, as the springs sell online for $100, and while labor has increased fuels is about the same as it was in 2016. Regardless, rather than making a decision under duress, I sent him packing and thanked him for the quote. Lowe's and Home Depot both sell struts to add to an existing door for $20/each. And the springs are $100-$200 depending on the size. Plus, Home Advisors has average pricing for replacing the spring in Boise, Idaho listed at $180-$320. This felt like a shakedown, so we sent him packing. I will not use Action Garage doors now or in the future. Disappointing to see what was a good company, implement used car salesman tactics. These guys have Ipads with slick quoting options that list out the good, better, best on springs. And what is ironic is that the external old-school springs are being promoted as the best option, when the enclosed springs that are much safer, since when they break it does not send shrapnel into the area damaging property or your loved ones. read more

Only because I cannot give ZERO stars. The service repair man came out and acted as if he did not want to repair the door?!? Imagine my confusion all he wanted to do was give quote for a new garage door. I stated "I do not need a new garage door, I need this one repaired". The Garage Door Service Tech states: "I will give you a quote for a new door, maybe try calling Overhead Door Company to repair." Imagine my surprise and confusion. By the by I did cal Overhead Garage Door Company and the did a great job on the repair!! Under $200 to repair vs. $1200+ for replacement. One of our garage doors was delivered and installed with panels that didn't match. Our motorhome garage door was installed wrong and the motor started pulling the garage door and separating the metal from the trim. When we opened the garage door it got stuck. It froze and snowed that night. We tried reaching the sales rep and received an out of office notification. It instructed us to contact the owner. We tried multiple times with no response. Ultimately my wife found an emergency line to have someone come out and get it closed. These are 16 foot high doors and they didn't think to attach anything to the door for it to be pulled down. After putting up with the loud noise of our garage door opener for over a year, we decided to have a quieter unit install. Action was recommended and we're happy we selected them. Brad came out, gave us a very reasonable quote to replace our new but loud unit, and scheduled an installation the same week. Brad did the install himself, arriving right on time, and did it in good time all the while being informative & friendly. After 5 months the door (not the motor that he installed) began making a bang on occasion upon opening the door. I called today to schedule an appointment to fix it and was given a window for tomorrow morning. The person I spoke with was very polite and had a fun sense of humor while quickly getting me set up. My garage door was in need of repair so I started calling around. I was getting quotes to replace the whole garage door operator, upwards of $375 plus the keypad and remotes that come with it. I called AGD and explained the problem. Within a minute, I was quoted a price for a fix--without having to completely replace the unit. They were willing to work with my time restraints and almost exactly one day after calling (roughly 24 hours from first call to finished job) the door was fixed, and working flawlessly. After a few days without a return call (I should have known then that there would be issues with this company) we called back. Woman seemed put out to answer the phone. I asked to purchase and install a garage door opener. She interacted with me in one-word sentences..."Name?", ""Address?" Poor phone etiquette. She quoted me a reasonable price and scheduled me for the following week. The day came and nobody showed up in our 12-4 window. We waited all day and had things to do. We couldn't get a hold of them when we called them. Eventually they called us close to 5 to apologize for a scheduling glitch, would we be willing to let them come the following morning between 8-12? We gave them another chance. The next day by 11:15 they didn't show so I called for an update. The story kept changing from there. First they couldn't find my appointment at all. Then they said I was scheduled from 12-4 in their computer. Then after I told them they were supposed to come between 8-12, they said the installer cane at 9:00 and knocked but nobody answered so he left. We were home all morning so, no, he did not show up. Nothing like getting the runaround and half-truths from an unorganized company with poor customer service to ruin your day. Look at the other reviews for this company, lots of bad ones. I wish we had read them before and saved ourselves a headache. Update in response to the business owner's comments: I was not told I was given any discount when I booked the original appointment, nor was I offered another 10% off for my "headache". If these things happened, it's all news to me. I appreciate that you responded, but a new front desk staff does not account for an installer who claims they showed up when they clearly did not. We were in the front of the house all morning waiting for him. Either you are not being truthful in your response, or your staff members are not being truthful with you. We were stood up twice without phone calls, when we called to find out where the tech was there were all sorts of excuses as to why the technician didn't show including that there was a new system being used. I am 100% empathetic to new systems and communication, but you pick up the phone and call the customer back and let them know what is going on. People re-arrange their entire days for these blocks of time. I would have never received a phone call to say that they were not coming if I hadn't called myself on both occasions. That ended as of 1/28/19 Sunday afternoon went out to my garage and the over head door would not open the spring was broke spoke to them on the phone Monday morning and for same day service the charge $180.00 just to show up. This is the company that was hired by our builder to install the garage doors. We paid extra to upgrade to belt drive to cut down on noise. During our build process we noticed that the garage door openers were scratched and damaged and had to push really hard to get them to replace them before we moved in. Once moving in, during our warranty walk-through we complained that two hinges were installed improperly and bent. Action garage door forced in screws which caused the hinges to bend. After several months they finally fixed them after having to send out a second guy because the first guy refused to believe the bent hinges were an issue. The door still does not sit straight and you can see light coming in under the door. This past winter we had snow inside our garage under the garage door. We also had an issue we our third car garage it makes a strange noise like rubbing when it is opened and closed. We have called them out again and once again they sent the guy they sent the very first time and once again he says there is nothing wrong. After a little pushback he finally starts to look at things and realizes that there is light coming in under the door and it is not tensioned correctly. He never looks at anything or gets his tools out just listened and says nothing is wrong. They have now refused to take the builders phone calls as well as mine and have proceeded to tell me they will not fix any other issues going forward and that we are on our own. I cannot remember the guys name that they keep sending out however I finally told him not to come back and they need to send somebody different. He is very arrogant talks down to people and does not let them explain what is wrong. He likes to proceed to tell me how he is very experienced and the best with the company. He is the guy that the owner sends out to fix all the other guys mistakes because they don't know what they're doing. I would never recommend this company to anybody and I hope our builder decides to find somebody else to do their garage doors because this customer service is horrendous and unacceptable. read more

Terrible customer service!! I called these scam artists because I needed to get a door repaired or possibly replaced. I told them that i needed a quote for the work. Ill I knew is that the door would not open and looked like it was in very bad shape. Two weeks later I get a call from the technician with replacement options as the door was not repairable. He then told me that I owed $75 for a service call, when all I wanted was a quote. I explained that I was not told there would be a charge when I called to set up the appointment. He then argued with me for a short while. I then called his boss and had the same argument. After which he told me to take my business elsewhere. Hmmmm. No problem. read more
