They sent Travis out promptly, who is their electrician where he found that the issue was resolved by replacing a faulty 40-amp breaker that was intermittently providing the necessary voltage, even though measurements initially appear correct. While the breaker issue caused real inconvenience and unexpected costs on my end, the owner was responsive and showed willingness to smooth things over to work toward a resolution. I also want to highlight that the panel upgrade and solar/battery installation itself was clean and well done. The workmanship that Eddie, Manny, Christian and Jamie performed had overall met my expectations, and once the issue was identified, Sunline did step in to correct it. No project is perfect, but how a company responds when problems arise matters a lot. In this case, Sunline's owner and Eric was engaged, responsive, and made a sincere effort to make things right. As an engineer, and after witnessing the symptoms and corrective actions firsthand, I believe the breaker issue was likely a manufacturing defect, and it was unfortunate that it occurred during the holidays. That said, based on how Sunline handled the situation, the overall quality of their work, and the value they offer, I would recommend them and plan to continue using them for future needs.

Less than three years after the system was installed, the monitoring stopped working due to T-Mobile retiring its 3G network. When I called SolarMax to ask what to do about this, they said that I would need to pay $625 to install a WiFi card, and that my power performance guarantee would only be valid if I paid for this upgrade. When I purchased the system, the salesperson, Jose Lopez, told me via email, "Our system does include monitoring. We do not charge additional for our monitoring." He didn't mention the 3G modem or say anything about the monitoring being conditional on a third party supporting 3G. With 7 years remaining on my power performance guarantee, I have no way of verifying that the system is performing as expected. If energy production decreases, then I won't know, and SolarMax won't compensate me for the underproduction. I feel like I'm being forced to pay an extra $625 for something that was supposed to be included in the upfront price.

A solar installation should not leave homeowners dealing with major roof damage and expensive repairs.
