It turns out that I would need to replace the water heater. Paul told me what water heater brands he felt were best and the fittings I would need to get to complete the job. And he took the old heater with him, so I didn't have to go through the aggravation of having to deal with getting Priority trash collection to pick it up special. I exacerbated a tiny drip in my master bathroom toilet into a small stream, flooding the bathroom, and sending water through the ceiling (inadvertently setting off smoke detectors!). Thankfully, I was able to contain the flood and shut the water off, but I knew I was out of my element. Having mitigated the emergency, I quickly scheduled my appointment with Putman & Sons for the following Monday. To my surprise, Jeff arrived a half-hour early after I received both a text and call from the main office, and a call from Jeff himself. This was easily the most communicative a contractor has ever been with me. Jeff was polite and professional, quickly laying out his strategy for solving the problem while I hammered him with every plumbing question on my mind (not just toilet-related). In about an hour, he had fixed the original leak, resealed the toilet, and satisfied my plumbing curiosities. In total, the cost was ~$200, which was perfectly reasonable, in my opinion, especially considering I think the whole ordeal took closer to an hour and 15 minutes. Thanks for a great experience!
