I haven't been bouldering/rock climbing in years and having just moved to Augusta, I had a great time here. As a new comer, the staff was welcoming and helpful in ensuring I knew the basics and recommended routes to take that would be beneficial for a beginner and definitely had fun doing so. They also have military, student, or first responder discounts and that includes admissions, shoes, and harness; price was very fair. This place certainly had a wide array of equipment for even power lifting, ninja warrior stations, bouldering walls, and plenty of rock walls. You do have to be certified by them to belay on your own, so I stuck with the auto belay walls; just wish there were a little more selection of auto belay walls. Overall, I had a great time and rather you're a beginner or experienced, highly recommend this place if you're into bouldering or wall climbing. read more

This climbing center is the most kid/beginner-friendly place I've been to so far! Most climbing centers tend to be overwhelming at first for me as a beginner climber because of the huge walls but the walls here aren't as intimidating. There is a designated kid area with really easy climbs so bring your kids here for exercise or birthday party!! There is also a table tennis and conditioning areas which I use when I'm too tired to climb. I do wish the bouldering area was bigger and had more beginner friendly routes but it might be that i'm just really weak lol. The day pass and the membership price are average for climbing, overpriced if you are expecting gym membership price but so worth it if you like climbing. We had tons of fun here. Brought the whole family. The staff was very friendly. They gave us a tour, explained everything and checked on us multiple times. They rent shoes and equipment for you to use so bring socks. They taught us how to belay (it was included in our newcomers package). They offer memberships or pay as you come. They even have yoga classes on Tuesdays. Also, they do birthday parties. My kids are hooked. If you have a chance, check it out. It's a lot of fun read more

This has been much needed in the Augusta area. The climbing walls are for all ages and I definitely recommend this for all couples! My wife and I went for our first time climbing and we left feeling confident but worn out! It is a great workout. The beginners lesson is short and quick but informative. For first timers at Active Climbing, expect to pay $25 which includes shoes and a quick crash course class. But after that it's $17/person + $5 shoe rental fee. The pass is for the full day, but I would never be able to physically climb all day. I personally feel it is a bit too expensive since my wife and I would only want to climb for about 2 hrs at a time. I would definitely go back, but would have already been back sooner if it weren't too expensive. read more

Very nice staff. Very clean and lots of options for climbing. The staff is super nice and make everything as easy as possible.

I thought it was a little pricy, but nothing to really compare it to. I understand that it is inherent because of all the insurance they must have. That being said, this place rocks... Pun intended. After a short class on how to properly wear the harness and perform belay duty we were scaling up 30' walls. They have dozens of ropes and paths of varying difficulty. They also have an area for parties that is slightly partitioned from the rest of the facility. And a ninja prepping area to practice a few things seem on the show, like the warped wall, salmon ladder and such. They also have a huge bouldering section that doesn't require the harness or belay class. These bouldering Lanes are also plentiful and of varying difficulty. Overall, the staff were excellent and the fun and challenge were worth the originally surprising price tag. Definitely recommend you give it a shot read more

This is a great climbing gym. It has ropes and bouldering and some ninja warrior stuff. It is bright and colorful and has a great atmosphere. A few suggestions for improvement: -more frequent route resets (especially on boulders) -some more gritty wall surfaces -some cardio equipment (ellipticals,treadmills, bikes etc) Overall this is a fun place with friendly and helpful staff and a much needed facility here in Augusta! This was my first experience rock wall climbing... but it will not be my last! Active Climbing has maybe challenged my fear of heights and falling-- because I want to learn how to climb the paths and get strong enough to attempt the Ninja Warrior training (if you know me in real life... you know that I secretly, not so secretly harbor this ambition to someday be an American Ninja Warrior. Actually, you might be able to tell that even if you don't know me... I might announce it anytime that I am trying something hard at the gym.) I went with a friend and her family on a Saturday morning and spent the better part of the day there. We started with the children's class-- the instructor was very patient with all the kids and their varying abilities. Afterwards we set out and began our attempts at the varying pathways up the wall. Let's be clear, this was my very first time... so I took the belaying class for $10. I thought it was necessary (the knowledge is) but I think that my friends could have explained it to me and saved me the $10--it was a quick how to on the system of getting others up and down the wall safely. (Like I said, it is needed but if you are with experienced climbers... save your money and put it towards going back!) We climbed all morning and afternoon and we never had to wait in any lines for spots to climb and I always felt safe (except for the few minutes I thought that I was too high and was afraid of letting go while bouldering... but that was on me alone--there is a thick padding below and with my rational mind I know that it is safe) I'm going back! I've even been looking into getting my own equipment... anything to get me a little closer to being the NEXT AMERICAN NINJA WARRIOR! (Que NBC commercials) read more

I've been climbing here for a few months now. I absolutely love this place. Not only is it well run, with friendly and helpful staff, but the climbing culture of relaxed, safe, and informal fun is thriving here. This is the place to be if you want to get a good workout in, challenge yourself mentally, and get help from others while you're at it. If you don't know anything about climbing, it's a great place to learn. If you're experienced, it's a terrific place to expand your climbing skills. I read a review here of someone who complained about children. It's a family gym!! And this gym is safe because staff and climbers alike police gym-goers about safety rules. Active Climbing is outstanding!!! A great work out and fun for the whole family!! Easily my favorite place in Augusta! The atmosphere and community you find within the building are second to none. I'm from colorado and really enjoy being active and outdoorsy, things the climbing gym let me do without getting lost. And even though I had virtually no climbing experience prior to going here the people within the gym and the staff didn't shun or refuse me. The staff are amazing individuals and willing to help with anything. Several times I found myself needing their assistance and never once did they decide not to put me first. Overall I have never and am confident will never have a bad experience at this gym. read more

Great fun for all ages! Very knowledgeable and courtesies staff and plenty of climbing variety. They'll also teach rock-climbing-focused yoga classes or lead climbing. About half of the wall surface hasn't been set with holds yet, so there is potential to expand, but we love the variety they already provide. Augusta has needed a climbing gym for a long time and it's exciting to see Active Climbing expand to our neighborhood!! read more

Just visiting the Augusta area and Active Climbing gym was by far a highlight of my trip. Chris, the manager, was an excellent teacher and went above and beyond offering us a refresher course and ensuring that all of our needs were met. Definitely will come back next time I'm in town. read more

I've been coming here on a regular basis for about six months or so, as a member of the gym. That being said, if there was another rock climbing gym available in this area, I would choose that over Active Climbing Augusta any day. There seems to be no rules in this gym, with children constantly running around, climbing behind the rock walls, getting between climbers and the person belaying them, and just being unsafe in general. It's also very common for people to walk around the gym without shoes on. I would complain to the staff, but they are never around to complain to. Yesterday, I saw a guest enter, stand at the front desk for about 10 minutes, and then leave because no one was there to help him. The two employees working (one was named Scarlett, I believe) had been away from the desk for at least half an hour because someone had brought a dog in, and they decided playing with the dog was more important than helping paying customers. I'm sure I can't be the only person who feels that the employees of this establishment lack basic customer service skills and rarely enforce rules, but as I said before, there are no other rock climbing gyms in the area. So I suppose the only option is to continue to pay for a membership and hope that employees decide to do their jobs on the days I go in. read more
