Not previously an athlete, I was handed a groupon to try out Crossfit Active Performance by my brother who wanted me to give it a try. After 2-3 weeks of procrastinating over giving them a call and starting, I finally did. In just 2 months now, I have been transformed, mentally and physically and nutritionally and there's no end in sight to where I can go.
The coaches are phenomenal. If you're new to the Crossfit, even if you're already in pretty good shape, they start you with their "On-Ramp" program. It sort of gets you accustomed to their techniques, high nutritional standards and their philosophy. Don't worry, it's tough, and you'll love it.
Markus is an unbelievable athlete himself, and since my start, he has continually checked in with me on how I am feeling, my nutrition and on days I have him for my WOD (Workout of the Day) as my coach, he really pushes you to outperform yourself over the previous workouts, in the safest way. Also, he's just a great guy.
Scott is one of my absolute favorites. He's an amazing athlete himself, and an inspiration. He has a straight forward approach and personality. He won't allow you to slip into bad form and risk injury as fatigue sets in. He's precise. He pushes you hard, motivates you and will remind you that all is great when you work hard. Scott is hands down one of my favorite coaches at Active Performance.
I've had the privilege of working out with Sarah as my coach many mornings. What I think makes Sarah so awesome to workout with is that she will make sure you nail your technique. Sarah has spent countless time with me before and after the WODS (workout of the days) discussing form, technique, stretches, and approaches to overcoming hurdles with my shoulder presses.
Cameron is the coach I first started Crossfit Active Performance 2 months ago. This guy is an athlete that can inspire just about anyone. Just like the other coaches, he has a knack for holding you to good form throughout the exercise... maybe even calling out "NO REP!" once in a while if your form slips... LOL. He's got an awesome sense of humor, great personality and I highly recommend you find a time slot to work out with Cameron. I think the general consensus is that he's tough, but a really fun guy to have as your coach.
Finally, I save my personal favorite coach for last. Janece. Janece knows every single person's name in her classes, even if you're brand new. She makes a point of it. She'll work with you before and after your workout on technique, discuss diet, recommend out of gym workouts and/or stretches, etc. She'll push you like the other coaches, she'll demonstrate technique one on one with you should you be confused between Power Cleans and Push Jerks and Cleans and Shoulder Presses, etc. Ultimately, the workouts I have with Janece are immensely rewarding, and possibly even addictive. I love the intensity. Her personality is infectious.
Coming from a background that was not athletic at all, albeit maybe a bit of love for adrenaline, all I really had was a desire to better my health. They guided me through the rest. In just 2 months, as I said in the beginning, there have already been major transformations. The athletes that started with me in the very beginning are in the same boat, they're seeing similar results and are loving it as well. read more
