We have a room in our basement where we keep our dogs' crates for when we need to kennel them. We also have a very old dog who spends almost all of his time in that room. Our carpet shampooer broke quite a while ago, and we reeally fell behind on dealing with how disgusting the dogs make the carpet. I didn't think in my wildest dreams the carpet would be salvageable. We decided to bring in Actually Clean just to try to improve the situation until we figured out what to do. If they had gotten the carpet half as clean as they got it, I would have considered it worth the money. They got the carpet looking like new, though! Had to use them for my apartment complex moveout and they called 11 times in the matter of an hour without a single voicemail while I was at work and could not answer which they knew in advance to go through the apartment complex for information. I got a very unprofessional message stating prices that were never discussed or explained. I was told they needed to charge a repair fee, a cleaning fee and a "level 1" cleaning fee so for a 1 bedroom apartment that was in perfect condition it cost me $247. Never once explained what my charges were for and why. Very much felt like I was being taken advantage of and will never ever recommend them to anyone. read more

Actually Dirty. They came to pump out our neighbour's basement and pumped the water all over the sidewalk and my lawn. I live next door. No-one can use the sidewalk as it's full of contaminated water. The dirty water has receded quite a bit in the photo. I've never used them myself, but one late evening around 10:00pm, an Actually Clean van showed up outside of my apartment building to clean the carpets of a neighbor. Their truck let out these horrifically loud grinding sound for about 45 minutes. What cleaning company comes in and clean something at 10:00pm? Seriously? I understand that during the summer months in Iowa City, it can be a time crunch to get all the carpets cleaned in a timely fashion. Also, I admit, I wasn't asleep yet. But I was working on it. HOWEVER. Myself and many of my other neighbors all agreed these these were jackasses. The company representatives were yelling instructions over the grinding of the truck at one another the entire time. It wasn't okay. It really wasn't okay. These guys were AMAZING! One of my kids spilled a cup of purple Easter egg dye on my white carpet. I tried to get it out myself, but was unable. Panicked, I called them and they came to the house an hour later. They spent at least an hour trying to get the stain out. They tried to dye my carpet, but there was still a faint red tint left in the carpet. It was Friday and they told me they would come back on Monday to try again once it dried. They did and after another hour of working on it, they got it completely out. They did not charge me any additional money for coming back to the house on Monday. The first time I used Actually Clean was after returning home at 7pm to diarrhea in 4 rooms of my house from one of my Labs. They were the ONLY ones in the phone book that mentioned 24 hour emergency service, so I called them. I had a 2-man crew at my home within 45 minutes, and they did a FANTASTIC job getting ALL of the carpets 100% clean (which I had honestly thought wasn't possible). The bill was only $117....SUPER cheap for an emergency call!! The second time I used them was just yesterday, when they came to clean all of the carpets in my entire household. I'd listed my home for sale, and needed clean carpets to make a good impression. They didn't disappoint!! I did find 4 small lines that were a light brown color in my great room that hadn't been there before, so I called Matt at the company. He explained to me that it had been where a little bit of extra water had been on the carpet and therefore it dried at a different rate. He called it brown out. He wanted to immediately send someone to remedy the areas, but I had to leave....so he's sending someone out tomorrow. EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! I don't know why the past reviews on here were so negative; I'll ALWAYS use Actually Clean, and will tell all of my friends about them!! read more

At about 10:30 PM on a weeknight, I was in bed when I heard a tremendous sound--kind of as if a group of powerful leaf-blowers and Shop Vacs had been switched on simultaneously. I walked to my window and saw a yellow tube snaking into a nearby apartment from a truck painted with the words "Actually Clean" and a smirking, shirtless cartoon character holding a test tube that is apparently the company logo. By the time I got dressed and down to the truck, several neighbors were already confronting an Actually Clean employee. The Actually Clean employees did not Actually care how late it was, or that they were Actually violating a local noise ordinance. Nor did they Actually take the neighbor's suggestion that they shut off their system and come back during the day. More sleepy-looking neighbors wandered over, and one of them called the police. A cruiser appeared a little before 11:00 PM to make the crew shut down and leave. On their truck it said "same day cleaning guaranteed." I guess they take that motto seriously; but, it's a shame they seem to be completely lacking in common courtesy or common sense. read more

We moved into a house that hadn't had the carpets done for years. There were strange colored stains everywhere and there had once been a naughty cat. The office staff was very friendly and got my appointment set up right away. The crew that was coming called on their way just as I asked. They were friendly and professional. They walked me through all of my options before they started, got all of my problems solved, we added on the bathroom tile that now looks beautiful and they even were able to get rid of the wrinkles in my Hall by restretching my carpet. Unlike the previous reviewer, I have had these folks clean my carpets, probably close to 10 times. They are quick, professional, courteous and friendly. They have removed red wine from my carpet and also cleaned up spilled Pepsi on my outoor carpet before it got sticky and gross. They never sell services you don't need and have always been on time at my home. I am calling them soon, as it is time to clean our carpets again! read more

We called Actually Clean because other people in our neighborhood had used them with good results before, but I can't speak about their results because they never showed up.... We moved all of our furniture out of our house to make it easier for them and had to have time to let it dry and move everything back before a family gathering the next day. I own a cleaning company and have used them for carpets and upholstery cleaning at job sites and have always been amazed. I have used them in my personal home to clean carpets and air ducts and was extremely impressed with not only the quality of their work, but also the professional and friendly team members. The first reviewer ("SJF") is indeed a little silly. I've been using Actually Clean for several years, ever since he set up shop in Cedar Rapids. They're a top notch business; they provide better cleaning than any of the many competitors I've tried, their rates are reasonable, and they're very professional. I couldn't ask for better service. As to the first reviewer's claims, I guess my question would be this: Why on earth are you blaming the company and not your neighbors? I can all but guarantee the company did not choose to work on the neighbor's house at 10pm. They are deceptive in many ways. 1. What they ACTUALLY quote you....isn't what they charge you...ask my grandpa Bud...ripped him off by charging 4X the amount. 2. Do a terrible cleaning job, not only did they rush through my gramps. carpet......but my very good friend...was really upset she paid them, for doing a really crappy job...she has no kids, no pets...gets it done 2x a year..... 3. The way they get business accounts from other cleaning companies....they insult and slander them...my bestie worked for a property management...she said the guy.who owns it....just rips his competition...with false information...and blatant lies. ...they have used the same cleaning company for over 10 years.....and was ABSOLUTELY....flabbergasted...how this guy gets away with slander and lies.... Shouldn't your great work and honest prices get you customers? Not lying about your competition..... Oh....and if you don't heed this warning....make sure you have a great pair of ear plugs....cause the truck they have the machine in.....is worse then any loud base music you have ever heard. I have heard they show up after 5,6,7,8,9 pm....and just start cleaning, not caring if they are ruining someone's dinner..or sleep....with the unbelievably loud machines. Well, I think we can safely ignore the negative Nellie who posted the other review. Despite the need to sometimes clean at odd hours, and the unfortunate necessity of the truck being loud, they actually DO get carpets and tile CLEAN!! They also do mold mitigation, something not all the other cleaning companies do. They are honest and up-front about any extra work that might need to be done (i.e. pet urine), and the associated cost and recommendations. read more

Let me start off by saying I would like the option to give no stars because this business certainly doesn't deserve any. My landlord asked me to call this company to get our apartments carpets cleaned at the end of my lease so I had talked to Katie and got a quote for $65 for a 2 bedroom apartment no stains on carpet no furniture to move. She was pleasant at that point. I agreed on the price and hung up. After the carpet was cleaned I checked my credit card app on my phone to see if the charge went through. To my surprise it was charges $130! Ok wth? I called the company and Katie called me back yelling at me that this was a condo and it had to be measured. Blah blah something something a condo was more expensive and I didn't state to her it was a condo. I tried explained to her that in no way has my "condo" ever been referred to as a condo by my landlord it was called a damn apartment big deal. Then this rude ass lady hangs up on me?! I google the difference between an apartment and a condo and it's a LEGAL TERM used in contracts to define a property (mostly on people purchasing etc.) I called back and asked to talk to Katie's boss (owner Jason) he never called me back. Katie ended up calling me back but my phone reception was so bad when she called she couldn't hear me yelling at her how rude she was and what a horrible unprofessional employee she acted like. They ended up giving me a $40 credit. What they should have done is call me and let me know the price would be different when they say this "condo" or whatever. She also should have NOT hung up on me and acted like a child having a tantrum. On top of all that the boss should have called me when I asked him too. This company is a joke and is unorganized. I was considering using them to clean my new home but after this experience hell no. Learn business etiquette and professionalism and don't expect everyone to know certain terms be sure to explain your quote better for your future customers who I'm sure your going to piss of one way or another. read more

This company clearly has an issue with timing and respect. I have never used them as a carpet cleaning service, however, the fact that they have now TWICE, showed up at zero dark thirty to do their job screams irresponsible, inconsiderate and disrespectful. We live in a dense residential area in North Liberty that is also home to a few condo buildings that are, apparently, rented properties. On the first occasion it was 9:20 pm when the grinding whir of a 25 foot air compressor rang through our 'hood. The second occurrence, work began promptly at 10:15 pm. This isn't just any vacuum that you can hear through your neighbors wall. This is a ground reverberating, air shattering, UFO may be landing on your house, HUM. Throw in the banter from the two men or women completing the job (obviously they have to yell over the din of their machinery) and you have 35 minutes to sit awake and dream of ways to ruin this companies reputation. On both occasions our local police were called and on both occasions I have personally left messages with the company's "After hours" messaging service. I was foolish to expect some kind of response or, GOD FORBID, an apology. I got nothing. Judging by the promptness with which the police rallied last night and the fact that the dispatcher reported there were numerous complaints within the past ten minutes...I would think twice about starting any job past 9 pm in our neighborhood. read more

I have an acreage listing that is superbly priced and is a hot property. This listing was supposed to have it's carpets cleaned a 10 days ago & prior to going active on the market. Unfortunately, my company of choice was booked. So we waited until Actually Clean could do the job & we delayed showings until Friday of this week. Th The appointment was yesterday. HUGE SNOW STORM and they were not able to drive to the house due to the road had snowed over, the hilly curvy driveway needed professionally plowed, and it's subzero temperatures. I now have 12 showings set up in a 24 hour period starting Friday and will have horribly dirty smelly carpet. This is death to a Realtor's reputation and a potential sale. This just can't happen. I called Actually Clean and spoke with Fran. I have never been treated SO WELL. Not only did Fran talk immediately to Jason (owner) they attempted TWICE on Wednesday to go back to my listing (35 miles away) to make me happy. They finally got to the house and since the driveway needed a professional plow company to come out and it had not happened yet - Actually Clean - took it upon themselves to get a plow out there. They plowed the driveway so their guys would be safe in their equipment going up the driveway and so they could make me happy. I was called and kept up to date at each attempt and they actually called me to apologize that their first attempts on Wednesday did not work. I am a pretty challenging customer to impress and I have to tell all of my Facebook friends that I am impressed. Having used this company several times in the past, it's unfortunate that I am coming here to post a negative review. As a customer, I expect to be treated with at least a modicum of respect and kindness over the phone, but for some reason, Actually Clean is incapable of offering even the slightest amount of friendliness. It's almost to the point where I felt as though I was inconveniencing them by paying them money for a service. I spoke with at least three people throughout my reservation and cleaning process, and each one was ruder than the next. We are in the process of selling our house and we wanted to have our carpets cleaned so we decided to go with Actually Clean. This was one big mistake! After they were done cleaning our carpet, the men themsleves decided that we should have our air conditioner running and without our knowledge, they turned it on. We had all of our windows open, but they still turned our air on.....When we returned home the next day, the lights upstairs were stilll on too. I immediately called Actually Clean and they were not very friendly nor did they take responsibility for what they did.
