I was in the worst pain of my life next to child birth. Went to the ER the night before. All they could do was tell me I had a pinched nerve and send me home with lots of pain killers. Whatever they gave me really wasn't working. I called Alison out of desperation. I really hate needles. She did some acupuncture and cupping. It wasn't comfortable, she it left funny bruising on my back and I left her office, still in pain still. BUT THREE HOURS AFTER THE SESSION, THE PAIN STOPPED! I've never been so happy to have a bruised up back. Pretty terrible first experience. Came in to help with stress, migraines and pain. There was no explanation of what she was about to do, or why, just started putting needles in. It was not a calming experience, she seemed distracted and rushers Left me to breathe for 10 mins and the music turned off so I just lay there and listened to people in the parking lot (window was open). Couldn't relax or focus. Then she had me take my top off and flip over as she left the room. I laid there for probably another 10 mins, no music, no idea where she went. It was an uncomfortable amount of time to leave me like that. Tempted to get up and leave. Then she comes back apologizing, she had to help someone else? Apologizes for the music, bad wiring? She closed window to block out loud parking lot, and then dives right into cupping without any explanation. I had to ask what the purpose was. And then she told me about the bruising. Then used a scraper tool which was super intense without explaining. I left feeling less relaxed than I did showing up. Paid $130 to be stressed, confused, anxious, and frankly bruised and beaten up. So. I wouldn't recommend :( Further- they offered me a refund to not post this review. I began acupuncture treatments for chronic UTIs and interstitial cystitis (a painful bladder condition for which there is no cure). I felt completely hopeless, but through acupuncture treatments, herbs and energy work, my symptoms have vastly improved and my outlook has completely turned around. Alison has helped to strengthen my immune system and taught me how to listen to body. My level has pain has substantial decreased and I have a better understanding of how to tune into my body and listen to what it needs (or doesn't need). I recently took the California Bar Exam. It was a three day exam that lasted from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. I contacted Alison Shafer to help me with clarity, stress and recall. We met a few days before the exam for a treatment, and then again the night before the first day for a phone session to focus on clearing my energy and putting my mental state in a good place for the test. During the exam I felt clear and confident. In addition, I felt like I had a protective bubble protecting me from the energy of others in the test center. Imagine taking a test with over a thousand other people that are over tired, over stressed and over caffeinated. It can be overwhelming, however I was not overwhelmed. I was focused. I just found out that I PASSED ! The statistics have also come out that it was the hardest bar exam in over five years, with a 39% pass rate. Although I studied hard for the exam, I attribute my ability to execute on exam day to my acupuncture treatments by Alison Shafer. This past summer I was sick for over a month with two ear infections and a terrible sinus infection. I'd seen three doctors and underwent four rounds of antibiotics in three weeks. I was at the end of my rope and desperate for any kind of long-term relief. I had never tried acupuncture before and randomly selected the Acupuncture Wellness Center because they were recommended on the San Diego A List. I called first and was in tears. Alison Schaeffer found the time to fit me in the same day. I came into the center (still in tears) and Alison took me under her care. I was nervous and a little skeptical but I told her what was going on and with me and with such genuine concern and kindness, she began a treatment plan which included nutrition recommendations, herbs and acupuncture to help rid me of what seemed like a never-ending sickness. Alison took the time to explain everything that was going on with me and her plans to treat me. She supported my decision to use both Eastern and Western medicine and most importantly, she really listened to what I was saying both verbally and non-verbally. She wasn't in a hurry, didn't rush to stick me with needles or shrug off my anxiety. She was patient and extremely professional. She treated the whole person and not just the obvious symptoms. By my second treatment I began to feel significantly better. After a month of being miserable, I cannot explain the relief that washed over me. It was the only thing that worked and I cannot thank her enough for that. Starting acupuncture has been one of the most positive and relaxing experiences of my life and now I go bi-weekly as a part of my overall wellness plan. I am truly grateful to Alison for her skill, expertise, thoroughness, positivity and kindness. I adore my time spent with Alison! I walk out every time with what i like to refer to as my "acupuncture buzz". It's like I'm floating on a cloud for the remainder of my day and nothing can bother me. Alison is the most helpful acupuncturist i have ever been to. Her insight and helpfulness amaze me every time. I have suffered through over twenty years of fibromyalgia. The Orthopedic Surgeons didn't know what was wrong with me. I found out about Acupuncture Wellness Center from Channel 10's A list. I figured if they were on the list for being one of the top Acupuncture places in San Diego then they are worth checking out. I first met with Dr. Allison to purchase a few sessions for my husband for a christmas present. Soon after he started going, I decided to try it. I never could imagine myself getting acupuncture treatments but I am sooo happy I have started going. I am a mother of 2 little children and my pregnancies took a toll on my back not to mention the 2 + years I have been carring my children untill they were old enough to walk on their own. I have had a lot of pain in my upper back and neck area. After my frist session with Dr. Allison I noticed a huge difference, the pain was almost instantly gone. I did not think I would notice such a quick difference. She did tell me that I would need to continue my sessions till the pain will be competlely gone.
