Whatever you do, do not go to Izzy. She completely ruined my hair. I asked for a simple, blended balayage and walked out with a choppy haircut, bleach-blonde/orange hair, and harsh, uneven "money pieces" (even though I specifically asked for subtle ones). When I reached out to the salon, I was told it was just a "toner issue" and only got refunded about $40 for the toner--out of the $150+ I spent. This wasn't just a toner problem - it's a straight up doesn't know how to do hair problem. It's been 3 months, and even after several corrective toners, the brassy bleach still keeps coming through. I had to take a few min to call Tripple A who was faster than thought so I missed my haircut apt since I had to be available for Tripple A. VERY MIXED RESULTS: Had several outstanding cuts, was completely happy. Then was handed off to someone (because of a pregnancy leave?) and was utterly 'butched'. Unfortunately I have the exact same experience as someone else who posted (Yasmin) about the same stylist Maddie. She is nice but I also spent over $500 without getting the results I wanted. Split into two visits, for something that was promised in one visit. I wanted a simple ombre and explained why I did NOT want a balyage and why. Each time I walked out with a balyage I didn't want, one of those times with orange hair (why?). I assumed the second appointment was a "fix" for the first one that went badly. But I ended up paying again for the "fix" and still walking out with something I did not want. I ended up doing my own hair and it is much closer to what I wanted. Unfortunately the kinds of mistakes made compared to the desired result make it impossible to "fix" what she did without damaging my hair further. Moving is hard...finding a new hair salon feels almost as difficult. Trusting a new place with your hair is a huge step because, well, it's your hair! Dorothy did a full highlight and cut that was way overdue for me. I specifically wanted more volume in certain places, a piecier look, and NO cutesy flip up at the end, which happened every time I asked for this length. She very much delivered. I love and trust Acure Eco Salon! They're the only place I'll go to now. Scheduling is super convenient and easy via phone or online. They always greet you with a smile, make you feel cared for and listened to, and I always leave feeling like a million bucks! Everyone there is great, but my favorite stylists are Izzy and Dorothy. They are both super sweet and great to talk to, and SUPER talented hair stylists! Both Izzy and Dorothy are great at figuring out exactly the kind of color and cut that I like and that flatters my face best. I've seen Izzy most often so I've gotten to the point where I often will just tell Izzy I want it a little shorter, etc and trust her to work her magic for the rest, letting her do whatever she thinks best! I'm really not one to complain much but I had a bad experience here. I'm a blonde trying to go platinum. I had a previous hairdresser who was always booked so I was trying to find someone else to go to. The hairdresser I went to at acure salon (Maddie) was a nice person but I went in for full babylights and when I saw the results of my hair at the end, I was really disappointed. Almost none of the bottom of my hair had been done, and the top of my hair barely changed in color. I paid 230+ and they told me to come back in for a balayage. I know going platinum is a process but with how light my hair already was, it should've been able to be done in that one appointment...... 1 know many salon owners and hairdressers that I hadn't gone to because financially, I couldn't afford it, But after my experience I reached out to them to get their opinions and they ALL stated that my hair looks the same and they "don't know what this hairdresser even did to my hair" because it 100% could've been done. The hairdresser at Acure also claimed she mentioned that multiple appointments would be needed but there was no communication from their end and I was never told that, or else I would've gone somewhere else. They also said going platinum is a process that usually costs from $400-600 but I've already paid $700 in total for my hair and I'm still not platinum and would need like 2-3 more appointments so I'm really confused. That should have been my last appointment to get where I wanted. I talked to the owner and she refused a refund or even a partial refund, and offered for me to come in "to do what she could to my ends to even it out a bit" but she "wouldn't do much." I'm not too confronting because I get anxious but I feel like as a salon owner, it's unprofessional and you're not supposed to make the customer feel like they're hassling you and you don't have any time for them, basically making me feel like it's my problem to deal with and too bad. Now i get to go on vacation with hair I don't like!! I'm honestly just really upset because I shouldn't be paying this much for no change and I feel scammed out my money. Even though my hair was almost there, I wish I just went to someone more expensive. It would've saved me so much hassle. So moral of the story, if you're trying to go platinum DON'T COME HERE unless you want to spend like 1k. I had a great experience with Samantha - she took the time to listen to what I wanted, looked at the photos I brought for inspiration and went to work. The color didn't turn out exactly as planned so she took the time to fix it and bring it more toward what I wanted. I really appreciated that I didn't have to say anything and she realized things weren't looking right. I left extremely happy after almost 4 hours in the chair! However, it's been a little over two weeks and my color (which was a lovely dark pinkish-purple) has gone away completely to be just a brassy copper color in my dark brown hair. I asked while I was there what I could do to keep the color fresh as long as possible and have followed the advice she gave me - not washing it every day and using sulfate free, color safe products. I'm really disappointed that it faded so quickly. There was enough time spent getting the color to stick that I had assumed it would last longer than two weeks! I hate leaving a bad review since I really liked Samantha and felt she listened to me, but it sucks to spend a lot of money on your hair only to have it look completely different than you expected a couple of weeks later. Next time, I would have liked to know that the color is barely even semi-permanent. read more

I have never written a bad review and have never even had a bad haircut - I'm really not picky enough. I brought photos for a cut and color last weekend. The color is fine but the cut was so bad. It wasn't just that it wasn't at all what I asked for, it was also a bad cut and ruined my hair. There are two hairstylists in my family who both have decades of experience in upscale salons in the DC area, and they were both horrified when I showed them on Facetime. I called the shop and very kindly explained that I was very unhappy. The owner offered to fit me in that day. I explained that I felt terribly bc I have never done this, and that I was nervous to return bc I didn't want to make the stylist feel badly. The owner called me and said she'd only do it as a dry cut, without a blow dry, and between other clients. I think all of this is bad enough but then, I kindly explained that that made me nervous. Her response was curt; she said she's "very efficient" and has been doing this for a number of years. Her response made me uncomfortable. I was already very nervous to return but being spoken to like I was doing something wrong and being fit in for a dry cut, I found very inappropriate. At that point I knew I wasn't going to get anywhere. I asked if she could refund me for part of the service. I paid over $300 for the cut color and blow dry, and was incredibly unhappy. She should have done everything she could to reassure me, and to fix it or refund at least the cost of the cut. She said at that point "I can't judge the cut because I haven't seen it," which really angered me because it doesn't honestly matter if she liked it or not. It was my hair and I was obviously pretty upset with it. She then said "I talked to the stylist and she said you reviewed photos and she gave you what you asked for." So at that point she's telling me I am wrong, my hair is what I asked for, or I'm just a liar. I was aghast. I quietly said I'd try to call her back later. I called my usual stylist (I went to Acure Eco bc it's closer to my house) and told her what had happened. Four stylists at this salon were gathered around the chair completely shocked at how bad the cut was. They thought the color was bad too but it was the least of my worries. She had to take my hair to a pixie to get rid of the cut. Luckily I have had pixies before and really liked them. But at this point I've paid over $400 to end up in a cut I didn't choose. The pixie looks great and I'm relieved that it's fixed. I recommend Strand Salon in Glastonbury. Since they weren't willing to spend the time and attention needed to fix it, and weren't even willing to refund even a part of the large expense, I felt I needed to write a review. I'm sure there are people that are happy with their work, but this was my experience. read more

I've never had a great experience with a salon before this visit. My stylist was Natasha, and oh my God made me love getting my hair done, she made me feel so comfortable and eased my mind. I always have a positive experience here. I've booked a number of times with a number of different stylists, and while I have my favorites, I never have to worry about a bad haircut. I love that I can book online. Such a small thing, but when you're busy and trying to fit it in around work and travel, it's so nice! Since it's been a few years now that I've been a loyal follower, I thought I'd update this review. Going for an appointment this afternoon to get my still new-ish PIXIE CUT trimmed (pixies require constant vigilance...apparently there's a fine line between pixie and full-on mullet-neck). So now I can safely say that Dorothy has styled my previously VERY long hair in every length and several colors and I still SWEAR by her work. When I went in June to cut off 14 inches of hair, I brought a friend who was going to go pixie too for moral support. My friend chickened out, and got a stacked bob cut instead, but we both ended up with enough hair to donate and now my friend is also a repeat customer of Dorothy's. When discussing my cut, Dorothy looked at all my (slightly obsessive) pinterest photos of cuts I liked (Ginnifer Goodwin) and hated (Shailene Woodley a la The Fault in Our Stars, UGH) and created the perfect pixie that works with my cowlicks (front and back). Back in January of this past year, I had an unfortunate home Henna incident which Dorothy helped me repair (for those that aren't aware--and I sure wasn't--Henna changes the chemical structure of your hair so that once you've done it, you can't chemically straighten/curl, or permanently color it without a huge risk). Dorothy blended two glaze colors to bring my hair back into the range of normal, without damaging it, and she didn't even lecture me for the at-home disaster. To the critics, I will admit that Dorothy's a bit of a talker. I personally love this because it relieves the pressure I would otherwise feel to make conversation with a stylist. I HATE feeling obligated to make small talk for an hour and Dorothy can carry on a conversation easily, or let me sit quietly, depending on the day, but I never feel that pressure. I can also say that, having somewhat wavy and cowlick-prone hair, I sometimes leave the salon and need to play with the styling/blowout to get my hair to look the way I like it, and poor Dorothy has been on the receiving end of my shock after drastic changes several times. However, I happily admit that no matter how I feel about the blowout, after I've washed and styled it myself, I always end up happy with the technical aspects of the cut itself. Since the expansion (beautiful!) prices seem to have gone up slightly (and certainly they're more now than they were in 2010 when I was getting law student discounts) but I still feel that it's worth the expense--obviously, since I keep going back! read more

I signed up for an appointment with her this afternoon prior to going to a fancy shmancy fundraiser (I usually see Katie but she was booked and Becky had pretty rad Yelp shoutouts). My hair was an out of control disaster (see dramatic photo) and B cut some lovely layers to make my curls shine through, and also cut my bangs to resemble...well, bangs, instead of overgrown weeds on my forehead. Beyond the excellent haircut, she's super fun to chat with and we even discovered that our boyfriends were both photographers that went to college together; not to mention the fact that she and I are crazy cat ladies. Dorothy gave me the best haircut I have ever had in my life. Period. I moved here from San Francisco, where I was paying 100+ on posh short styles in the lower Haight. Well, after I got the cut from Dorothy, I realized how little I was getting for my money there. I have been to her 2 or 3 times since I moved here. I have since bought myself some texturizing scissors to touch up between cuts because I am a poor student (even though the salon is cheap, I am cheaper), but I love going back for a treat. I am going to put up a picture soon. I've never gotten so many compliments. The one thing I was a little disappointed in was that she didn't cut it the same when I went back. I don't know if she wanted to try something else or if she couldn't do it exactly the same, but I was SO in love with the last cut, I just wanted it again! The staff was super friendly and accommodating, coffee was offered as soon as I walked in for my appointment. I left my hair in the hands of Becky, and was very happy. The products used were eco-friendly, and worked very well. I was really happy to find the waxing products they used left no irritating bumps or redness afterwards, either. I waiting over a month to post a review, in hopes that I could write one that was not out of emotion but out of genuine reflection. I have been consistently reminded over the last month of how TERRIBLE of a job Izzy did with my hair. I had went in for simple blonde highlight root touchup (those are so common now days, how could they not be done right at a reputable salon, right?) WRONG. I left with my hair even darker than when I came in with. I'm still confused as to what she did with my hair, but she told me she put a rinse/toner in that made it brown/red... The salon owner graciously refunded my payment. But I've truly never had a worse experience and cannot believe Izzy could do such damage to what I felt was a common request - blonde root touchup...
