I tried emailing both Stephanie, my stylist, and the owner before writing this review, but received no response. This salon is very cute, and the Stephanie is a lovely person. This was my first time visiting as I wanted some advice on coloring my hair for next appointment. The 2 star rating is for the haircut I received. I have long hair, and expressed I'm looking for some angling in the front, a little layering, and overall keep the length because I'm a low maintenance hair girl. the first cut she makes is 8inches off of my top layer, all in one cut I couldn't believe how much hair was in my lap. The final result was a not very well blended style that is high maintenance to deal with, straightening it is out of the question because I have a ledge of unblended hair. I will echo other reviews and start out by saying the Farmington Valley is so lucky to have Jillian in the area - because she is absolutely incredible! I found Jillian's Hair while home for the holidays. Jillian was able to fit me into her schedule on short notice, and I loved that I was able to book online! From the moment I walked in, Jillian was warm, friendly, and obviously brilliant at her craft. She immediately understood what I had asked for in the first 5 minutes, and ultimately put together exactly what I envisioned. Not only is Jillian a brilliant artist, but she was an absolute pleasure to be around. Just like all the other ladies, I have nothing but a rave review for Jillian. I initially found her via Yelp months and months ago -- the pictures she had online of her portfolio were super helpful and assured me of her talent with color and style. I have very long hair (about 22") that grows slowly, plus it was black and hadn't been colored in years, PLUS I had extensions placed all over. Needless to say I had a lot of concerns about the process of coloring my hair. We emailed back and forth a few times and she immediately put me at ease. She always replied quickly, addressed every concern I had, and was patient with the fact that I obsessively sent her a thousand pictures of the look(s) I wanted to achieve. Finally I scheduled my appt and trusted that I was in the hands of a true professional who would know what was best for me. It's been almost a week since Jillian lightened up my look with a very subtle, natural, and gorgeous ombre. I am literally in love with my new hair color. My hair is still healthy like she promised and the color suits my skin tone very well. (Both of these were MAJOR concerns for me in the beginning.) Jill is a stylist who knows hair and knows her craft, and I trust her completely based on two visits. She'll give you great cut and color for a fair price. I never go to the salon with a clear idea of what I want. I want a stylist who can figure out what works with my hair & face shape and can offer me some ideas on how to break out of my box. Jill hits all the marks. (If you do want something specific, she'd probably be great at that too.) Jill asks a lot of questions before and during the process to create a style that works for your specific needs. She's punctual (usually ready a little early), efficient and detailed, and a cool, fun person to talk to. I've done both cut and color with her and walked out of the salon feeling awesome each time. Online booking from her website makes scheduling easy, but plan ahead--her calendar gets filled quickly, sometimes for a month or two out. I'm so psyched to write a review for my experience with Jill (because it was that amazing!). Prior to my appointment earlier this morning, we had exchanged a couple emails regarding the ombre process and such. She responded swiftly and made me very confident with my decision to go ahead with the process. The actual experience was great. Jill was super nice, she asked and listened to what I wanted and was honest with her opinion(s). I told her what I wanted (subtle ombre; I have naturally dark asian hair which I've dyed a caramel brown colour before), and had her take complete creative control over the whole process. She explained what she was doing and what each product did, which I loved to hear about simply out of curiosity. Needless to say she knows her colour! She toned out my hair so it is now on a cooler colour spectrum and I absolutely love it! It is so low maintenance and touchups would be easy. Jill recently did the hair for my wedding including bride, mother of the bride, flower girl and three bridesmaids. Not only did she do an incredible job on each, she was fast, patient, creative and collaborative with each person to make sure they had the style they wanted and what would look best for the dress and event. I am SO glad i found Tress Salon and Jill ! I cannot believe it took me a year to find this place and I'm so glad I booked an appointment. The salon is located in the basement of the building and inside is bright, clean, and has a rustic feel to it. Coming in, my hair was damaged at the tips and my roots were starting to show. I wanted to have healthy hair before my wedding and to have a more natural hair color. Jill came in for the save in the 11th hour when my hair stylist bailed 2 days before my wedding. Jill was responsive, not rushed, and did a better job that I could have asked for. She got everyone done and had time for touchups in our timeframe. A few of my bridesmaids had pretty non specific requests and she used her creativity and everyone's hair came out beautifully! She was very reasonably priced and had no problem coming to do our hair in simsbury. In a nutshell: Jillian is exceptional at her job. I was looking for someone to do hair for myself, a few of my bridesmaids, and my mother for my wedding in July of 2015. I was looking for someone in the Boston area who could come to our hotel (vs having us travel somewhere), was reasonably priced, and who had good and calming energy as that's so helpful when doing anything wedding related. Jill crushed it on all of these criteria- I did a hair trial with her in her salon in Brookline Village (so easy to get to, right across from the T!) and showed her a sampling of styles/ideas I had but asked for her input and encouraged her to use her creative license. She was so helpful in brainstorming how to make the styles/look I was going for come to life, and played around with different options with patience and enthusiasm. When it came to finalizing plans for the wedding day, she was organized and timely in her responses. The day of she arrived early and was so laid back that it made everything that much more relaxing and stress free -- I can't overemphasize the importance of having vendors who bring this to your wedding day prep enough! All of my bridesmaids looked gorgeous and she was able to do everything from simple to complex (messy low bun up-do with a big braid starting midway back then incorporated into the bun!) flawlessly. We finished on time (early, I think! ..it's a blur) and her timing estimates for the day's schedule were on point. Jill was introduced to me following my make up trial by my make up artist after I had a bad experience with my first hair trial at a different salon. I was anxious to have the hair trial sooner than later, to ensure I had time to continue looking for someone else if this didn't work out. Jill explained she could perform the trial at any time, but since I was in the process of growing my hair out, she advised waiting until the wedding was 2 months away. I thought I would be nervous waiting that long, but after meeting Jill once I knew she was the one who would be doing my hair for my wedding. While she will listen to what you want, she also provides her own insight, and the result is that you hair comes out the best it possibly can. The first time I met her she colored my hair. I couldn't believe after having Jill color my hair just what I had been missing out on throughout my adult life....truly good looking hair color. My hair is extremely thin and yet Jill had close friends asking on the day of the wedding if I had extensions in, since my hair looked so amazing and full. My bridesmaids also looked their best and were able to have the style they wanted. Jill was able to do several different hairstyles for all my bridesmaids and family (a total of 10 women) and never was there a concern of not having enough time (which I have run into with other weddings I have been in). She was so easy to work with, very responsive during the scheduling process, and even did a trial/consult with my Mother-In-Law, who was also very concerned with how her hair was going to look. Jill gave me the best hair cut I have ever had! This was also the first time I have ever had my hair colored and I decided to go for a more natural balayage/ombre combo and I am in LOVE. We communicated via email prior to my appointment and she made me feel very comfortable and understood. Her handpainted technique is amazing and she really knows how to place the color throughout your hair in the most flattering way. The cut was great too and we consulted about my natural texture and how I wear my hair on a regular basis beforehand, and she took it from there. She was SO meticulous with her blowout and I walked out of that salon feeling like a million bucks (but her prices are SO SO reasonable). All I have to say is wow. The next day after washing, I was amazed at how much the haircut and highlights flattered my natural texture. On another note, the salon was very quiet and relaxing, and there was only one other client there with another stylist for some of the time.
