Our Instructor Justin was exceptional! We learned how to protect and defend ourselves in real life scenarios. I learned being short is not a disadvantage. The tips and techniques are very helpful. I feel prepared to defend myself in a variety of real world situations. I am also more aware of my body language, my surroundings and other signals bad people put off. Now I am empowered and confident walking to my car in the dark, getting gas in a not so great part of town or even at a crowded/loud bar. Combatives This place is doing a fantastic job in training real people to handle real world everyday threats. The instructor Justin is incredibly knowledgeable and thankfully patient with everyone. All the Team Members make you feel welcome. Also, the rest of the staff was great at answering questions and explaining not only the moves, but why we apply it. They offer a flexible training schedule. They offer multiple chances to train during the week it, even Sundays. Since I travel so much I appreciate the flexibly. It's also very refreshing to train with real people, using real everyday language that's easy to understand. I highly recommend anyone who cares about their personal safety(and their family's safety) should at least pay this place a visit. This is a great class for anyone with a willingness to be prepared for a situation where you may have to rely on yourself alone to protect you and your loved ones. I'm just a regular guy and I have no aspirations to be the next mixed martial arts champion so this class is perfect for me. The focus of the classes cover a wide variety of topics such as strikes, defensive positions, handling weapon threats and also encompasses the psychological aspects of confrontation. All the topics are always grounded in the "real world" where there is no soft mat or referee. We have a wide range of students both male and female, young and young at heart. Justin is an easygoing instructor and makes class fun but challenging with his passion for the subject. I urge you to come check out a session and decide for yourself. read more

Justin and his team of instructors are great. They will answer any questions you may have and work with you to develop the tools that you already have while showing a few that you didn't know about. Unlike traditional schools that might teach you how to protect yourself in several years, here you will learn practical defenses on your very first day. Probably the greatest things about this school are that there are no silly uniforms to wear and no stances to stand in for hours practicing how to block an imaginary opponent from the middle of the 15th century. Here you learn wearing normal clothes practicing against another person. What you will learn here is how to block attackers wielding weapons, fight off attackers from the ground, how to get out of choke holds and how to protect yourself in close quarters situations that we all find ourselves in, like between cars in a parking lot. What you won't learn here is how to break a brick or a board, because really, why on earth do you need to be able to break it unless it is attacking you? Oh yeah, there are no competitions and no trophies to earn in this, this is not a sport, this is for real. The only trophy you will get if you ever need to use it is being able to walk away, your attacker, well...he might not be so lucky. I joined the A.C.W.A. classes a month ago after doing a good amount of research on several different styles of self defense and attending a trial class. I was immediately impressed with what I saw and since my main goal is more about defending myself and my loved ones in real world situations than it is about winning trophies, I knew this was where I wanted to be. As a beginner it's great to know that Justin trains in such a way that I'm able to keep up while the more experienced students don't seem to be slowed down or held back. If I have questions about certain moves/techniques, they not only get answered but demonstrated as well. Something else I've noticed is that students of other styles join and talk about how they've learned to very easily layer these new techniques on top of what they already know. I would say that regardless of your prior training and/or level of expertise, you should definitely come check out A.C.W.A. I have trained in a couple other martial arts styles and can appreciate the dedication to get to the higher levels of training. Through some changes in my life, I searched for a different style and was referred to A.C.W.A. and Keysi as an alternative to the traditional martial arts. I found that both Keysi and the A.C.W.A. Combatives training takes the fundamentals of what works from many styles and creates what I like to called an applied sciences of martial arts. It isn't a shortcut but the learning curve and the fundamentals are learned and easy to apply the different aspects. This is training in a real setting with different variables so you work with your instincts instead of a technique. You learn to defend under pressure and how the body reacts when you perform the techniques. Whether you are young, small, overweight, short, tall, in shape, older, have training or no training this academy has answers that will work for you in most real life situations. ACWA is amazing! I've trained in several martial arts over the years and they all had two things in common that turned me off. 1. They required years of training to be proficient and 2. They were all about competition. ACWA is neither of those. It is practical information right out of the box. You leave your first class with tools that could save your life. Let's face it, we live in a violent world and any of us could be a victim at any time. Being a victim is not acceptable. You could be injured or worse. Justin teaches you how to change those dynamics, how to change your attackers plans from assaulting you to fearing for their own life. He teaches not only the physical skills but the psychology of both victims and assailants. As a college instructor, I know who's done their homework. Justin's skills and knowledge are second to none. With A.C.W.A., there is something for everyone. Prior to joining A.C.W.A., I had been searching for a long while for a solid self defense class. I'd been to various martial arts classes, but they all seemed to show me sport, not street smart self defense. A.C.W.A. prepares you not only physically, but mentally as well, for many situations where you or a loved one are in danger. There is hand to hand combat, gun disarms, knife disarms, long range weapons, short range weapons...basically everything! As a young girl, I am not the strongest person, but at A.C.W.A., that doesn't matter. Anyone- and I mean anyone- can take these classes and be successful.
