In the past I have had bad experiences with dentists. I have needed and still require a lot of dental work and thru my dental insurance I found this practice. I saw Dr Bonner and she went out of her way to make me feel comfortable. She was kind and gentle and communicated everything up front. If you are looking for a practice with high quality that doesn't cost you a fortune you should definitely give this place a try. I went to see this dentist and told I would need a deep cleaning and had stage 1 gingivitis, just like Emily Q., I read the reviews just now out of curiousity, not prior to cancelling my appointment. Before reading the reviews I had a bad feeling about the recommendations and cancelled my deep cleaning appointment, which would have cost $900 out of pocket with insurance. Just like Emily Q. I have had very few dental problems and have outstanding cleaning and flossing habits at home. I am glad I followed my instincts and cancelled my appointments, the reviews I have been reading confirm my suspicions. I am searching for another dentist, it did feel scare tactics were used, I was also warned about potential heart problems with gingivitis and told my gums were bleeding. I never see blood when I brush my teeth or when I floss. I have had 3 cavities my whole life and I am age 61, I did not have my first cavity until I was 16 years old. I don't believe the dental diagnosis I was given, it feels like this dentist is looking for ways to make money. I was told I could not be given a routine cleaning, because I needed a deep cleaning. I was also recommended cleaning every 4 months, I have always been told 6 months. This has never happened to me, most dentists give cleanings as part of their practice. I was given xrays I saw Dr. Bhavana Venugopalan. Although I did not complete the recommended services, I would not recommend this practice, it feels like a scam and from other reviews it seems like a scam for money. read more

I had a very concerning experience at Acworth Smiles Dentistry. I was seen by Dr. Bhavana Venugopalan and told that my tooth needed to be extracted with a sense of urgency. I was also quickly pushed toward a denture solution, including being encouraged to start impressions on the spot. There was no meaningful discussion of alternative options such as root canal retreatment, and no explanation that the diagnosis might not be definitive. I was told a crack may be present and that the only solution was to remove the tooth. During the visit, I was evaluated and referred toward oral surgery, reinforcing the decision to proceed with extraction rather than exploring ways to preserve the tooth. Concerned about making an irreversible decision, I sought a second opinion. Another provider evaluated the case properly and recommended retreatment instead of extraction. I followed that plan, and the tooth is now improving significantly. Based on this outcome, I believe the original recommendation was unnecessarily aggressive and premature. Presenting extraction and dentures as the only solution, without clearly discussing viable alternatives, does not meet the standard of informed patient care. I strongly encourage anyone in a similar situation to get a second opinion before agreeing to major procedures. DO NOT GO TO THIS DENTIST! I made the mistake of seeing their 4 star review without checking yelp or reading the reviews. They are a complete scam. The front desk staff and dental assistants are very sweet but the the "doctors" are complete scammers. They destroyed two of my teeth that were perfectly fine just so they could charge me to fix them. I'm now forever missing a front tooth. They never told me what they were doing. Just started drilling. I didn't see my crazy insane crown until I got into my car. They charged me $600 for a crown that looks awful and told me if it came off, they'd replace it for free. I got a second opinion from another dentist and he informed me they destroyed two teeth and didn't even touch the one I came in concerned about. DO NOT GO HERE. Before the dentist even examined my teeth, they had me swish with a liquid for a test. They told me the results showed I had gingivitis and claimed they were "saving me from a heart attack," which was extremely alarming as I am a healthy 28-year-old with no history of dental problems. They insisted I needed a "deep cleaning" based solely on this test. I have never had dental issues in my life. I recently went to a different dentist for a second opinion, and they told me I have some of the best dental hygiene they have seen and that I absolutely do not have gingivitis. This practice, and Dr. Carissa Campos specifically, uses fear-based tactics and questionable testing to push unnecessary procedures. The experience felt dishonest and unethical. The Indian looking dentist basically forced me to buy a denture piece, after referring me to someone else for my tooth extraction when their office says that they perform tooth extractions! Nobody has made an effort to call about my denture piece and when I called them and I told them, I don't want the piece anymore I will go somewhere else and if they could refund me my money, the front desk told me no because their lab had already made denture piece! I hate leaving bad reviews and anyone looking at my profile will see that this is atypical but businesses like this don't need to operate under the radar of accountability. We had had mixed results with the dentists on staff between my multiple family members over the last year. Some good and some just ok but the final straw was that recently there was some billing issues and the dentist's office not coding the work correctly that caused out primary insurance to balk at one of the charges. When they presented us with the bill rather than correcting their mistake, we pushed back for clarification. While the matter was pending (or so we thought....just about 40 days since the date of service) the billing office sent our case to their collections office. When we pointed out that we had already paid the remaining fee a week before we got the collections bill I called the main line for some explanation as to why this would have already gone to collections when we were still expecting insurance to make a final decision. I requested for an additional conversation with whoever made this decision and stated that I would appreciate a phone call or I could come down to their office in person. At that point the office personnel felt I was being aggressive. Needless to say we mutually agreed that neither of us wanted to continue working together. Not sure how they expect to stay in business given I am seeing other similar " buyer beware " warnings about their office staff but live and learn. read more

I'm assuming the initial dentist I spoke with was Carissa Campos. She was very unpleasant and pushy in her tactics of getting me to go with her initial want of pulling all four of my wisdom teeth and two bad cavity teeth. I didn't go in for my wisdom teeth, which I was told were alright for now by a previous dentist, I went in for my cavity teeth. "Good faith" is a good way to describe how they get you in there, use some scare tactics, become aggressive when you just point blank say that's not what you want done (I'm not sure why they were acting like I was implying they didn't know what they were talking about), and ultimately it felt like there were too many cooks in the kitchen trying to get me dental care. Campos has an attitude problem, I'm sorry to say. Most of the other staff are pleasant, but I am now facing potential permanent nerve damage due to them pulling a wisdom tooth I was convinced by them needed to be removed. This was not disclosed to me prior to, nor were many proper things explained before my procedure, but they simply said it wasn't an issue because I signed a bunch of papers that were, once in office, essentially hurried by me after I had been in there for two hours trying to settle what procedure I was even getting. I'm sitting here on my birthday with half my mouth and face completely numb and unable to be felt. When I asked Campos about this, she told me they weren't "future tellers" and there wasn't anything they could do and no medical professional could restore feeling to my face. Which wasn't even what I was asking. She could've just told me calmly and politely what was possibly going on. I don't know if it's me, or if she does this to everyone, but she is the major reason I will not return to this practice ever again. read more

I started out really liking this dentist. I had a implant done and after it was done was told I didn't have enough bone and would need to remove it to add bone. The surgeon was going to charge me to put in another implant even though he should have known I needed more bone. Went a month ago for a cleaning and was told I needed a deep cleaning which is very expensive. I went and got a second opinion and was told I didn't need a deep cleaning. My gums looked great. Dr Bristol Williams in the periodontist. Not all of the procedure was done which was ordered & I was sent there for but billed my insurance as if procedure was done. Sent home with Ibuoprfen that did NOT even take the edge off the pain; sent home with Amoxicillin which I am allergic to. Told she would give mouth rinse NOT to use Listerine then when I called advising she forgot the rinse RX they said USE LISTERINE which BURNT my raw gum. NO POST OP INSTRUCTIONS GIVEN ! Worst part of mouth which I was told by 3 highly periodontist with over 35 years practice MUST BE DONE. This Dr. Williams refused to do! What the hell kind of perio doen't want to do gum work that is needed? AVOID - HORRID PAIN and NO RELIEF. Ibuprophen does not ease pain! I'm. Bleeder and they prescribed Medrol dose pack steroid which thins blood so guess Ill bleed a lot now. RX for antibiotic which I am allergic too BEWARE - BEWARE read more

I have always had a fear of dentists due to the unpleasant experiences I've had through the years. I am happy to say that those fears have been erased all because of Dr. Bonnner at Acworth Smiles. She is an AMAZING dentist, very gentle and shows great care for her patients. I particularly love that she is conservative in treatment rather than opting to perform possibly unnecessary procedures. This is the WORST dentist's office I ever visited. They only care about money and they will use any trick to get it out of you. During my recent visit on Thursday, 11/2/2023, an irrigation service was included in my visit, which I explicitly declined at check-in and believe was not carried out. Subsequently, the office is demanding an $80 payment for this unperformed service. When I contested the charge, the receptionist acknowledged my refusal, but the hygienist and dentist insisted I accepted the service, which is not accurate. I did not even see the dentist until after my cleaning was done. They are now threatening to send the matter to collections. I have reported them to Georgia Consumer Protection. PLEASE save yourself the headache, AVOID this office, they are fraudulent. The dentist even tried to scare me into removing my wisdom teeth which is giving me no trouble all for money. If you are seeking satisfactory customer service from the front desk staff, please find you another Dental office. As a new patient, I endured the WORST customer service (front desk) and appointment scheduling every. During my visits, I have experience the WORST customer service experience from the front desk staff. I totally understand the procedure of calling upon a patient's arrival to be escorted in due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but I waited over 45 minutes during my first two visits. Both times, I had to enter the office, to remind the front desk staff person that I was outside awaiting a call to come in for my appointment. On July 8, I received a called by someone from the office staff to ask me to reschedule my original appointment on July 17. I agreed to reschedule for July 10 at 7:45am. Upon my arrival, I called to inform the front desk staff member that I was outside. I waited for an hour and called back. She informed me that I was NOT on the schedule. I don't understand how a scheduling conflict can happen when the rescheduling request was initiated by Acworth Smiles staff member. What makes matters worst is the front desk associate didn't have any explanation and didn't try to fit me in to schedule since I was there. I will say the Dental Hygienist that performed by deep clean in June was great, but the office staff is bad. This place is horrible! I'd give it no stars if that was an option! I got a filling in one of my front teeth and now there is a sharp edge that cuts my tongue! The dentist said she didn't see anything on the filling and I must be imagining it even tho the assistant said she could feel it. The dentist was too stuck up to listen to her. I also was supposed to have a root canal. After the root canal was all said and done I still had pain and was told the root must have mysteriously cracked and needed to be extracted. The extracted area never healed right and I still have the pain. I'm pretty sure the pain was the tooth next to it. After the ridiculous amount of money I spent here I'm in more pain than I started with and lost a tooth for no reason. What a great new office in a great shopping center! My kids and I went here for our appointments and I loved it the second I walked through the door. It's so nice, clean, and well decorated. The receptionist greeted us while my kids made a beeline for the playstation and TV. There was also a nice keurig coffee machine with different flavors to choose from. I don't do coffee but it's nice to see quality coffee and not the cheap stuff. It's all about the details!! Enough with the aesthetics, onto the dentistry. I was taken back on time and Lexus took my xrays. she is the sweetest person ever! She was so patient with me because I'm the worst with xrays. My gag reflex is the worst and she worked with me to make it as comfortable as possible. The other lady, Katy, had to push the button as Lexus put the sensors in my mouth. That's what I call teamwork!!! Later, I only waited for about 5 minutes for the doctor to come in. He was so kind and personable and was making small talk with me before working. I like small talk, especially if the person will be poking around my mouth!! Makes me more comfortable. He did his thing, informed me every step of the way, and soon the other assistant holly came to clean my teeth. She was quick, efficient and made sure I never had a pool of saliva in the back of my mouth. She remembered all of my sensitive areas and I was comfortable the whole time... I can't stand cold and pressure on my molars. My daughter went in after me and she told me everyone was so kind to her. They put the TV on so she could watch during her procedure. Love that option especially if you get a little skiddish at the dentist. Check out was easy and I made follow up appointments that day. Like I mentioned earlier, it's in a great shopping center so we were able to walk around and run the rest of our errands in the same center. I have never written a review before this but seeing as it's a lot of money I think they should take note. I hadn't been to the dentist in like 2 years. I was so scared to go in fear of not going in so long. I was expecting stuff to be wrong. I had 3 cavities and some gum recession. Okay, that's my fault..no problem. My biggest problem is the lady they send in to talk about your options to pay for this stuff, and just some small stuff they could improve on to make new patients feel like they have me as a forever customer. First, when Margaret came and talked to me she was talking to me about the cost. It was like $865 and something and I was looking at it perplexed. I said this doesn't add up correctly what you're telling me and explaining to me. The payments would of been over that amount. Then she was like "oh I didn't put this there in that box, that must be it" and then she changed it and I was looking at it and I said, "this is still a lot of money like I just don't understand?" and then she was like "oh gosh there's an extra cavity on here that shouldn't be .I don't know how that happened someone must've put that on there." So she took that off and my total was still like $745. I asked her to add everything up in front of me and make sure it was correct then. It finally was. But anyways then I get home and I'm looking at my bill (that I thankfully took a photo of where they list everything they charge you for, because that was not given to me.) and she charged me for fluoride and I remember them not doing that, so I called back up there and I said I know this wasn't done and they said they would take it off and credit back money. I feel like Margaret was trying to railroad me, like she was trying to charge me more from the get go and see what she could get away with. That's how it felt! So now I'm questioning my whole experience and if my cleaning was even done with 100% ya know. Maybe I'm just over thinking it all now because of Margaret. If that is your person in charge of money, she sucks and should not be!! Miranda who did the cleaning was nice but being a new patient I would like someone to give me a step by step of what's happening and what they're doing so I know I'm getting everything I'm paying for. I kept asking questions of what she was doing so I knew what was going on. The doctor who did my cavities and in charge was extremely nice and did a great job too. Although, I thought she would come and check the cleaning after Miranda finished but that didn't happen either.
