I DO NOT recommend getting this truck for your neighborhood or kids, unless you want your kids in tears. We were told BY THE OWNER, that only one neighbor needed to schedule a stop in the neighborhood and that after making that stop the truck would then stop at anyone who was standing outside. We warned him that we had over 10 households that would be outside, he told the person scheduling that it would be no problem. "Are you sure, because we can have others schedule for our neighborhood as well." "Nope, just one is good and we will serve everyone else," says the owner. Great! So we scheduled a stop for 4 p.m. and let all the kids know. (Approx. 20 kids) I haven't seen my kids that excited in 2 months. And so we waited, and waited and waited, for 2 hours. My kids wouldn't let us go inside in fear that they might miss the truck. FINALLY at 6 p.m. we get the call that the truck is in the neighborhood. My kids, 6 and 8, can't hold in their excitement. They watch the truck go down the cul de sac street that is Catty-Corner to our house and serve the kids down there. Only to watch the truck come back up and be told that they CAN NOT serve my kids or any of the remaining neighbors down our street because they are running late for other neighborhoods. WTF. Needless to say the shock, disappointment and sheer sadness on my kids faces broke my heart. These days they have VERY few things to look forward to and this was something they looked forward to for TWO days. Only to have it thrown in their faces that their neighborhood friends got this special treat and they did not.
So, we (the woman that originally ordered the scheduled time) called the owner and told him what happened. He said, that should not have happened i'll have them turn around and come back. I let my kids know. "Surprise, you will be getting this nice treat today after all." So, we go back outside with excitement on their faces again and happiness in their voices. To only be called back and told "Nevermind, we are not coming back to your neighborhood right now, we will be back around 8p.m." Now, I have to tell my kids AGAIN that they will not be getting KONA ICE anymore because the truck wont be coming back to the neighborhood until after they are in bed. Again, they are 6 and 8 and their bed time is 8p.m.
I tried calling the owner several times myself to explain my frustration, sadness, and disappointment in his customer service and for simply breaking my kids hearts in a million pieces, but was never able to get through to him and the voicemail was full.
Kids are being hit hard by everything going on right now. They dont get to see their friends anymore, they dont get to go to school, they dont understand things that are happening. They dont get to see their grandparents or cousins outside of a screen. It's hard for the kids and all i wanted to do was give them a little pick me up, a treat, and to see a smile on their faces again. All I got was tears, tears and a lot "it's not fair." read more
