a hot dog cart on the street

Brings me so much joy to see Gus & Yiayia's on the North Side every summer, as I know it does for so many others! They couldn't be friendlier and there's nothing like the simplicity of a snow cone or popcorn on a hot summer day. Definitely stop by and visit if you're in the area (or even if you're not).

I'm so sad to hear they're closing shop soon but was glad I got to get a cone before they do! The cart is so cute and nostalgic and same goes for the snow cones themselves. There was a huge group of kids in summer camp under the age of 9 that came up for snow cones and the staff were so patient and kind with them, it was cute to see! Gus and Yia Yia's will be missed!

What could be better then some fresh shaved ice with some sweet syrup on a hot summer day? not much go on over to Gus 's ice stand its adorable right across from the tennis courts there is some construction going on as of this writing but I was able to park and walk over no problem a vintage wagon serving up fresh shaved ice and nice hot pop corn I do believe it was Gus himself that shaved my ice. lots of flavors classic flavors cherry, lemon ,cotton candy, blueberry right next to an old Pittsburgh city park a short walk away are picnic tables sit relax and enjoy this great Pittsburgh summer tradition according to some now make it your own tradition 3.oo for my ices and popcorn obviously a cash only...good old fashion money

Finny patiently waiting for his plain icy. Gus is so sweet and talking to him while he waits!!!

Gus & Yiayia's is one of our favorite stops. Gus has to be one of the kindest people living and the prices are incredible. We give it 2 paws up!

Best shaved ice-- this is an awesome stop on a hot day when you are tailgating at a Steelers game on the northside make sure to ask for Gus's favorite. Also grabbed some Popcorn!!

Oh no. They really are closing for good? I was hoping the torch would be passed. The Pirates and all of Pittsburgh won't be the same.

This is a Pittsburgh institution. If you are anywhere near the North Side you have to stop here for an icy ball and peanuts.

We popped in on a rainy day and got two drinks and pretzels. What a delightful little place! I got…read morethe raspberry mocha and I have no other way to describe it than graeter's berry chocolate chip ice cream. I think we came at a kind of off time of day because the pretzels were cold and kind of hard, but they still tasted good and the dips were what we expected. I'd suggest making a trip towards the beginning of the day!

Amazing pretzels!!!…read more Super friendly and polite customer service with warm, comforting pretzels and the most amazing dips ever. In addition to being organic and vegan I also appreciate the fact that they aren't too salty like many other soft pretzels are. These pretzels also reheat well in the toaster oven which is great when you are already stuffed but want to take a pretzel to go. I especially recommend the cinnamon butter dip which has a very unique flavor. I've never had anything like it. It is reminiscent of cinnamon ice cream in texture and flavor without actually being cold or too sweet. You also don't mind using a lot of it as it is light and fluffy in mouthfeel.  They must never take the tasty cinnamon butter away!!! They also have a tasty mustard dip which is a condiment I often recommend to people as a Dietitian due to its many health benefits. As the only local pretzel place in Pittsburgh to serve both organic and vegan pretzels this is the *perfect* vendor to any local party you are having - particularly events that have the need to be vegan and/or organic as people become increasingly concerned with their health and the environment. I highly recommend contacting Connor today or ordering a pretzel from him if you see his pretzels at an event! :)

I stopped by here a couple of Thursday evenings ago with my wife for dinner. Our neighborhood had…read moresigned up a number of food trucks to come on Thursdays and this Thursday happened to be The Mac and Gold Truck. Since it's a food truck, there's not too much to say about it other than it's a nice yellow color that reminds you of cheese. For dinner on this day I decided to go with the buffalo chicken Mac and cheese while my wife went with the lobster Mac and cheese. There was maybe a 5 minute wait between ordering and our food being ready and afterwards we headed back to our house to eat. My buffalo Mac and cheese ended up being quite good as both the buffalo chicken and blue cheese added great flavor to the dish. However, as it should be, the Mac and cheese was the star. The pasta itself was cooked nicely and the cheese sauce had a great flavor to it. There was an ample amount of it too and which means that I was able to enjoy Each and every piece of pasta. My wife really enjoyed hers too and we were both pleased that the lobster wasn't exorbitantly priced. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. Both my wife and I enjoyed our Mac and cheese and I would be interested in trying more of their flavors.

Wasn't sure what to expect because most Mac & Cheese at restaurants is overrated. There are two…read moresizes, a snack size and a regular. The regular is relatively large. They had 3 specials and/or Plain Mac or build you own with about 6 items to build your own. Was pleasantly surprised with my order of Prosciutto & Lump Crab Mac. The cheese is definitely a sharper cheese which made it a winner. It came with lumps of crab and crumbled prosciutto, a great combo.
