I found this man to be condescending and brittle. He was a bit impatient during the first part of my examination, and then he became FURIOUS when I called him Peter rather than Dr. Adachi, even though the optical shop that referred me to him called him Peter, leading me to believe that everyone does. Peter, you need to chill. You are not the king of the world, and customers/consumers/patients are your equals in service provision, not your underlings. Doctors in town are not taking offense when people talk to them like other people, and you're not even an MD! You do have the arrogance I've seen MDs exhibit in other cities, though. Do you even understand Seattle? When people go to see a health care provider, they are feeling emotionally vulnerable, physically ill, and scared. Your job is to help, to go out of your way to be solicitous and kind, not to attempt to humiliate. I wonder how a younger or sicker woman would have reacted to your immature outburst. Decent enough optometrist, but when I spoke about some pain in my eyes, he gave me no indication that the advice he was giving me was going to be considered medical advice and therefore was therefore going to be charged extra and not covered under insurance. 15 minutes with him cost me $160 out of pocket. I was looking forward to seeing Dr. Peter Adachi because of all the great reviews I had read on yelp. But then, while driving north on WA-509, I get a phone call from one of his office managers, 15 minutes before my appointment mind you, telling me that they did not get authorization from my insurance company to come in. HUH? They said I could still come in to see Dr. Adachi, however, if records show that I am not insured because I have no authorization, etc., I would be stuck with the bill. Hmmm....ok. Why would I go if I were not authorized? So I asked if I could cancel my appointment so that I could try to figure out all this mess and the lady said that I couldn't and that it's a $75 cancellation fee. WHAAAAT? Why would I go if I have no authorization, and risk having to pay out of pocket and then have to pay $75 to CANCEL? Absurd. What was confusing was a week prior, the office took my information and SSN to get the authorization before coming in. Why would they call me 15 minutes before my appointment to tell me this when they could've warned me about it last week, that way I could at least help figure out the mess with my insurance? Whomever I spoke with said that their computers were down and they couldn't go online to get information. Hmmm, I think that's why we have telephone numbers to call businesses about these kinds of stuff, right? After calling my insurance company, and getting everything squared away, I called the office and spoke with a different lady (who was super sweet!) and told her what happened and that I was authorized after all (someone had called 10 minutes before I called and got the authorization from them). By then, it was 20 minutes past my appointment and because I was upset about how the situation played out, I decided to cancel my appointment. The sweet lady didn't charge me for cancelling and gave me an option to reschedule as well, but I chose not to because I was not too impressed with the way the other person handled my situation. read more

I scheduled an appointment here a week and a half ago because it is very close to my apartment. I decided a day later that it would be better to schedule something with an optometrist closer to where I work so I called to cancel my appointment. No one answered and my call was forwarded to their voicemail which states that they are either out on lunch from 1-1:30 or are currently assisting a customer and to "please return your call" before closing with a beep. There is no mention in the voicemail to leave a message or that your call will be returned so I did not realize that this beep was the start of a voicemail recorder. So, I dutifully kept returning my calls to the office for the next 6 days trying to cancel my appointment with no answer each and every time, each and every day. I also called multiple times throughout the day to see if I could catch them at a less busy time to no avail. Today, the 7th day, with my appointment being tomorrow, a receptionist finally answered my bajillionth call and I asked her if I could please cancel my appointment for tomorrow. I was met with the most RUDE tone and attitude I've ever experienced. She exclaimed that they require a 48 hour notice and I explained that I had been calling multiple times a day over the last week and how their forwarding message only directs the patient to "please return your call" so I was confused and that was why I didn't leave a message. All I got back was continued tone, attitude, and disrespect. "We have a voicemail right here. It's sitting right next to me." Lady, idgaf anymore JUST CANCEL MY APPOINTMENT. I will never go to this office nor do I recommend others go here because of that horrid treatment. Incredibly unprofessional. Also, please amend your forwarding message to help alleviate any confusion on the patient's end. read more

I have been a patient for years & I always get a thorough & comprehensive examination and there are always small tweaks to my contact prescription. He takes his time and I never feel as if he's rushing so he can get to the next patient. Gaye, who is awesome, is at the front desk and is always extremely helpful and knowledgable. I used Dr. Adachi when I worked downtown and had a good experience with him. I am now a traveling tennis instructor and downtown is inconvenient but I booked an appointment because I had a relationship. I booked an appointment around my busy schedule for Wed 9/1 at 1:30. A received a vm the week before seeing if I could reschedule. Then I received a text. They were closed when I called on Friday. When I asked why, I was told I was the only person booked that and asked if I could reschedule for a day like 9/8. The only time that worked for me was 9 am which was highly inconvenient due to my schedule and living in West Seattle. I asked if they could reimburse my parking. They told me no so I told them I wanted to keep my 9/1 appointment. They canceled my appointment less than 24 hours in advance and blamed COVID. I've been going to Dr. Adachi for years, and he is absolutely awesome. In fact I moved to Portland, and study in Chicago, and still drive up to see him every time I'm home rather than find a new one, because I like him that much. He's very calm and relaxing, and always remembers who I am and a little bit about what I'm doing in my life (really impressive for a doctor I see maybe once a year!), making the visit completely stress-free, and actually even a little bit enjoyable. He responds well to problems, too - I told him my contacts are uncomfortable when I need to read all day (which didn't bother me terribly, since they are for distance vision anyway), and he tried out a new brand that has revolutionized how I see the world, making it comfortable to wear my lenses all day long with any activity. Also he mentioned once that he rides his bike to work everyday unless it is snowing and has for the last 20 years! Not important for vision concerns, but I always find that a plus. I would say that the prices are a bit expensive for buying glasses or contacts from them, but not more than any other eye doctor, really. If you want a good deal on that stuff look online or costco (surprisingly good frame selection). read more

I went to Dr. Adachi back in the day and returned as a patient just a couple years ago, after spending several years going to an unnamed creepster. Dr. A is super thorough and wont' let you leave the place until you are totally satisfied. I happened to mention upon leaving that one eye seemed a little "glary-hazy" and he had me get back in the chair, did some adjusting, and brought out a new lens. Will give you the real scoop with a bunch of analogies. My question: do you really have to rub the contact if the bottle says "No Rub"? His answer: uh, do you just squirt shampoo on the top of your head and expect your hair to be clean. Also tried to explain about the whole astigmatism thing, which made sense. Five Starts for Dr. Adachi! I was not happy with my previous eye doctor, so I needed a new one. Well, I was putting it off like usual and then I lost a contact!! UUUUURRRRGGHH!!!! I wear hard lenses, so no backups for me! I started just calling everyone my insurance reccommended and seeing who could fit me in. Dr. Adachi was the lucky one with a cancellation! His staff was incredibly friendly (almost too much) and got me right in to see him. They pulled up all my insurance info and didn't give me a hard time about the fact that I forgot to bring it and my old perscription. Things I loved about Dr. Adachi: * He told me WHY he was shining all those lights in my eyes. I never had anyone explain that before and he didn't give too much information or sound pretensious when he did it. * He got my new lenses to my in 2 days!?!?! Unbelieveable! * Very friendly and helpful and gave me all the information I needed to get my vision back on track. He even set me up with a free soft lens so I could see for the next 2 days. * No pressure to buy anything. A+ service! read more

After a recent trip to my eye doctor (who will remain nameless) of 16 years went haywire, I decided it was time for a change. All I needed was an updated contact lens prescription before I moved out of the city and Dr. Adachi was able to fit me in just in time before I left (with 3 days notice.) He fitted me with new, more modern lenses and helped fine tune my prescription in a way that my previous doctor had never even mentioned. In short, Dr. Adachi's awesome. As an added bonus, I learned Dr. Adachi's an avid cyclist. If you want someone to talk cycling with along with your eye health, this is the guy. read more

They have been such an improvement in my overall vision and I was so pleased with my experience at Peter Adachi's office. They took some getting used to, but now I find I forget I'm wearing glasses. I came upon his office a bit haphazardly due to a last minute need for contacts, proximity to my office, and a cancellation by one of his patients; and consider myself very lucky! Dr. Adachi is a wonderful doctor. I had gone to him on and off for many years and have always been pleased with what great care he has taken when it comes to my vision. However, the front desk person lacks professionalism, is disorganized. The first time my husband went, they gave him the wrong prescription for his contacts. They finally got the right lenses to him. This last time he went, they ordered his lenses weeks ago and they never showed up and my husband never so much received a follow up call from Adachi's office. My husband spoke to the office person and she said she would contact the lab and have it expedited. They were to be here last Tuesday and they STILL have not arrived. Office person didn't care enough or she lacks the ability to track what's going on with the patients and now my husband and myself are out of patience and will seek a new eye doctor. What's more is I was in a random elevator and some elderly woman was talking to someone she was with about how she came all the way downtown to see Dr. Adachi and the receptionist did not have her down on the books and she said she wrote it down so as not to forget. read more

I've had some optometrist speed through the whole process and makes you feel rushed. However Dr. Adachi is different, the appointment is relaxed and talks you through the whole thing, and answers any questions you may have. I had eye surgery when I was younger - serious eye problem. Not many doctors can diagnose my vision correctly. Dr. Adachi had no problem, and is so good at what he does, that I know I'm in good hands. He told me that we're still on track, and when it comes time that glasses won't work for me, he'll get me on a list for a transplant. Even telling me that didn't freak me out because I know he knows what he's doing. He's reassuring, always gets the prescription right, and is very thorough. I generally really dislike paying for a new eye exam every two years, as nothing much ever changes, but with Dr Adachi explaining each test as we went, I really felt it was worth the time and cost. Dr. Adachi is nice enough and very knowledgeable, but his staff is AWFUL. You will feel like a number, not a human and they will suck you dry with extra fees. I have been to quite a few optometrists, and this is the only one where I truly felt like all they cared about was getting my money. I even went back for a second annual exam, because I thought maybe my first experience was just a poor one. Again, customer service was some of the worst I have ever seen, they don't return your calls, and make no apparent effort to remember you. Dr. Adachi is great. I've been going to him for years. I think I picked him because he was first in the phone book and, boy, was I happy with my choice! As other reviewers have mentioned, he actually explains what he's doing and what's going on with my eyes. He asks about my health in general which makes me feel like he's relating my eye health to the rest of my health. Too Expensive! And when picking up my glasses, they didn't even fit them to my head because they were so concerned with collecting the balance owed. I don't care what the machine cost originally, it cannot be that I need to pay $200 for 5 minutes with my face in the viewer and a printed sheet for a result. I have been seeing eye Doctors since I was 18 months old. I am now 55. I always wanted to wear contacts but never could. Other Doctors would write me a prescription and send me on my way. The contacts never worked out. Dr. Adachi spent the time to make sure the contacts were perfect. He tried different strengths and fits until they were perfect. Doctor is nice, but he did misdiagnose me at first. His staff is horrible though, they lied to me about having contract with my insurance after being asked specifically, and they told me that they have no contract after 6-7 visits, and it was "my-word-against-their-word" and I have to pay for everything myself!
