I should have listened to the previous reviews about Dr. Whitehead. I would not recommend this place or specifically the doctor. The office staff were nice and tried to apologize on his behalf so this in no way is a review on the staff. Belief people when they say Dr. Whitehead is condescending and Rude to his patients. the wait time for appointments will exceed 30 minutes and the receptionist are pleasant but really it's a waste of your time. There are far better options than having any procedures performed by Dr. Whitehead. I felt like I was trapped in a small room with aused car salesman. He even compared the types of cataract surgeries as types of cars! And he likened himself to a plumber, I have far more trust in a plumber than I do in this doctor. Great service and friendly staff. I was always met with a friendly attitude and caring intention. They made my cataract surgery almost completely painless... I mean it is eye surgery so it's hard to make it 100% discomfort free, right? The supporting staff of a facility is usually a good litmus test for the skill of a physician in my experience, and the staff was fantastic. They joked back with me when I joked with them (called me A-Aron back after they asked my first name when being wheeled into surgery), they were supportive and serious when I needed them to be (gave me that Valium when I said I was pretty nervous ahead of my first eye surgery). And Dr. Whitehead was all that and more. Anyone that needs cataract surgery should feel confident in Evergreen Eye Center to deliver great results. read more

I want to be super clear that the staff here were really wonderful. From the front desk staff to the assistant that began my appointment. My rating is based on my experience with Dr. Whitehead in the Seattle location. Not only was I kept waiting in the room for 40 minutes (another assistant did apologize for this, thank you), but the Dr. came in said nothing about being late, made a sarcastic comment around why I was there and proceeded to ask me what was going on. It was very clear that he had not spoken to his assistant who did a full intake of why I was there. In checking my eye (flipping my eye lid) which was not very comfortable he did not give me a preview of what he was doing or an explanation. The main reason I came in was for a stye on my lower eyelid which he didn't even notice. I can't believe this guy is an MD. Please avoid at all costs!!! read more

It was a multi-week process and were able to get my eye sight to 20/20. From Dr Whitehead, the Surgery Coordinator to the front and back office staff they were all extremely professional and courteous. I had a number of questions and concerns and the entire team put me at ease as we went through the process. The good part was as I went to each visit they did not keep me waiting and if there was a change to a schedule they contacted me right away. I recently took my 86 year old step father to the Evergreen Eye Center, Seattle office, for a second follow up exam and the person, who's name tag read "Mary Q.", brought my step father into her office to do what appeared to be a photo procedure of his eyes. The first thing I noticed immediately was that she was chewing gum under her mask, a behavioral faux pas in any serious profession. When she sat him down at the exam machine she lowered it and asked him to put his chin on the brace. He meekly asked her if she could lower it a little more but she said "Sorry, that's as low as it goes." I then spoke up noticing that the chair he was sitting on was an adjustable height chair and asked if we could raise the chair. She flatly ignored my request and seemed to be in a hurry to rush him through the procedure and began clicking away as quickly as possible, this second faux pas was duly noted. Once this part was over she brought us to the her desk and then explained that the procedure comes with a $100 co-pay under his insurance. I then mentioned that the last time we were in to see the doctor he showed us a chart outlining five different procedures and began to ask for more information since she made no mention of his options. She then committed her third faux pas and asked if he could afford the other procedures since they were quite a bit more expensive. I was shocked at the question; amazed that she thought it was her place to even ask. The entire time she sighed several heavy sighs regarding the inquiries as if having to be at work that day was a pain while simultaneously displaying a great deal of impatience with my frail, old step-father. At this point the faux pas meter had lost count; he needed help and patience and for her to explain the procedures in price and benefit about three times to understand, which obviously annoyed her. To add to his difficulty he required a Cantonese translator to help him understand everything while the subject matter, eye surgery, was causing him much anxiety but her tone began revealing her impatience and indifference with him. It was at this point I could no longer withhold my indignation at her grossly unprofessional behavior and proceeded to harshly berate her for her curt behavior, huffy puffy sighs and poor attitude, not even mentioning how tacky her gum chewing was, explaining that he was very old and that the language barrier was an added burden and that he was very anxious about the procedure. She replied saying "Now wait just a minute." This was the wrong response, I'd waited several minutes already. She obviously didn't want to be there and I felt like I was dealing with a teenage high school student. After letting her know I wasn't going to tolerate her attitude anymore she slowly changed her tune and began acting more like a caring professional but at this point I was really questioning if this was the right place for such a delicate procedure but we we decided to reschedule for the following Monday so he could consider his options and opted for July 5th, although when I mentioned "the 5th", just to be sure, she suddenly realized they'd be closed that day, another sign her head just wasn't in the game, and asked if Tuesday was ok. We then decided to go home and discuss our options while noting that this wasn't the only place in town for eye surgery, ultimately opting to cancel the next appointment and take our business elsewhere; to a place where patient care means caring for your patient, like a normal office. read more

Unless you enjoy being condescended to, find a different ophthalmologist than Dr. Whitehead at Evergreen Eye Center in Seattle. After numerous visits there for and then for issues following cataract and YAG surgery, I have also lost confidence in this doctor and any other provider he might recommend. In my experience, their patient information was incomplete, communication style impatient, patronizing and critically lacking in nuance, and, at important junctures, misleading. read more

When I was going over all the things that happened this year and remembered the most important and valuable event was when Dr. John J. Whitehead gave me my new RxSight Light adjustable lens. He assured me that the outcome of the procedure would allow me to see better, and he did it wonderfully. He explained everything he was doing and eased my anxiety. It was a piece of cake. After the healing, the difference in my eyes was amazing. My vision is clearer, colors are brighter, and back to 20/20 or better. I don't have to wear glasses for reading or distance. His is amazing. I just thought to warn people about this place as their is a dishonest eye Doctor practicing at the Madison location and attempted double charging . I was sent here by my eye doctor for some concerns she saw in one eye. I set an appointment and was assigned a Rather large doctor who processed to preform the same eye test that my Doctor had already charged me for but wanted his own results by his tech, which came out the same as the first test. He then proceeded to tell me I had some beginning issues with my Left eye which could be resolved with 1 laser treatment , which I agreed to have done . A day or so later , the billing department have pre approved with my insurance to have BOTH eyes done which wasn't discussed with me , just the left eye. Which made me have second thoughts if even this was necessary as the Doctor was trying to charge my insurance for both and not just one without discussing it with me . So I cancelled the procedure and elected to go with the nightly eye drops instead. I believe this angered the Doctor and he proscribed the most expensive eye medication on the market. Great staff that work here , but watch what procedures they try to add to the charge without discussions with you first and charging your insurance. Just gave me the creeps about the Doctor. read more

The office staff was pleasant during each and every visit. All intake and insurance paper work was smoothly and efficiently managed. All of the optical technicians were pleasant, attentive, and efficient. Dr. Whitehead is warm, friendly, and thorough. He communicates clearly about one's situation and the available options. But most importantly, there was only mild discomfort during surgery. Post-operative discomfort was also mild, and the results are EXCELLENT. I am 73 years, and I am recommending Dr. Whitehead's Madison Street location to all of my fellow seniors who need either a cataract or glaucoma procedure. read more

I am extremely extremely disappointed in the service I have gotten from this clinic! First I had to call four times before anyone bothered to call me back. Then I was told I had to get a referral from my dr. Before I was able to get an eye exam because my insurance wouldn't cover it (I had already checked with my insurance before even calling them) But whatever that's their policy so okay! I made an apt with my dr. Like they wanted and I got a referral. I call back to make an apt with who my dr suggested and the woman at the front desk was still unwilling to help me! She was super short and had to keep checking with her coworker before answering my questions. When I started to get upset with her lack of help she talked over me and would not listen. My eyes have gotten three times worse in the past year but they don't seem to think that is a concern! All my dr and I wanted was a more in-depth eye exam to see if there was anything to be concerned about and these people were awful!! I would take my business elsewhere if I were you and find someone who has an actual concern for patients and the health of their eyes! Worst customer service ever!!!!! read more
