These stores are absolutely fantastic! The highlight is definitely the garden center, which features an incredibly knowledgeable and courteous staff. The gift shop is also fun to browse; while I don't always buy much, it's nice to look around, and you can occasionally find a hidden gem--like the lovely holiday ornaments I discovered last year. My daughter requested seafood for her birthday dinner so I headed to Adam's Poughkeepsie location. If you can find a parking space, remember to bring a quarter with you because at this location, you are required to insert a quarter to rent the cart. Presumably this is because of the proximity to City Of Poughkeepsie, but I see no reason for it. This location has a bit of a confusing situation because you really need to remember which entrance you use so you can get back to your vehicle without having to circle the entire building with an overflowing cart of groceries. They are pros and cons to shopping here. Staff is extremely friendly to the point where you feel like you're at a neighborhood small grocery. But this place is massive with an abundance of imports and unique offerings from around the region. I belong to a farm cooperative, so I don't usually need vegetables. However, in this case, I did shop produce to locate some organic options to serve with the scallops and shrimp. The presentation is wonderful, but the prices are outrageous. Year over year, the same items that I purchased at Adam have increased by at least 30%. Some of that is due to the current geopolitics, but some of it is just plain exorbitant pricing. My purchase: A stop at Seafood to make sure they had 2 pounds of sea scallops approximately $24 per pound- wild caught. And the colossal shrimp more than $20 per pound also wild caught. Next stop a birthday cake - everything looks wonderful and I'm sure that there are items that are not mass produced with lots of fillers, but idea say that they probably use the same cake mixes as the less pricey supermarkets. Regardless, I had no time to bake so I picked up a 6 inch carrot cake - $26. And a fresh fruit tart 9 inch $29. Ouch, one note about the fruit tart is that the strawberries were not hold which makes for very.com cumbersome dining. You serve a lovely piece of fruit tart, and your guest has to dissect the strawberry to take the leaves off. It doesn't look that great and it is not appetizing. A quick stop to pick up organic broccoli. What the heck! Roughly $12 for two bunches of broccoli. I must be out of my mind. It was a birthday and I don't have any broccoli at home so I bit the bullet Over to the cheese counter where you can find exceptional values, and Exceptional imports My pic today was Bulgarian feta cheese, which is not easy to find, a beautiful French Camembert, and a block of Gouda. A loaf of bread, and a quick run to the clearance section at the back of the store where I scored pretty well with about 2 pounds of beautiful grapes for two dollars and a dragon fruit for under two dollars. A 12 pack of Parker General rolls $2.50 a quick run past the pasta department for the Italian produced linguine and onto the cash register. My cart was full and I knew my wallet would be empty soon so I headed home. Shopping at Adams is an experience rather than a chore. Please don't go on an empty stomach because you will soon regret it. You're not gonna find samples here for tasting, but you can ask at the cheese counter if you're not sure about a potential purchase and they will oblige. I do . read more

Recent cool finds *bulk loose leaf tea, specifically green tea chai *spicy peach wings on the hot bar Picked up Adam's brand Kona coffee for $10.99/ lb, got it pre-ground for a drip coffee maker, perfect for those days I'm not in the mood for espresso. We are so lucky to have this business in our community. They support regional farms with meat produce and dairy from our neighbors. The quality is superb. They have the best butcher and fish. The bakery is great. Their greenhouse is an oasis. The prepared foods are healthy and delicious and reasonably priced. The diversity of plants and Landscaping materials and expertise in their departments is awesome and they give so much to the community in the way of sponsorships fundraisers and school programs. It's true if you're coming for a bottle of ketchup or other middle-aisle fare then the price is not cheap but for those who understand the importance of shopping on the periphery of a market, this is the best place for fresh quality ingredients. read more

Not only do they provide plenty of excellent local (& other) fresh produce and other goods, including organic and sustainable, but I understand they also treat their staff very well. About the people who feel that it's unnecessary to have to donate a quarter for your shopping cart (but you get it back), it keeps the parking lot clear from stray and dangerous runaway carts, so I'm all for it! And if you're really strapped for cash, they'll GIVE you a quarter when you go to customer service, which is near the entrance. read more

I've been a dedicated customer of the Adams Fairacre Farms located in Poughkeepsie (although on occasion I've also shopped at the one in Wappinger's - also terrific!). Extremely high quality of produce, meats and poultry and fish- always fresh and flavorful. Prepared food are excellent, with an open salad bar, sushi, and hot dishes (although these can sometimes have too much salt for my taste - but that's just me) and a mouthwatering deli section. Couteous service - and that's what I'm writing about today. Last week, I had the opportunity to try their prepared meatloaf - and it was beyond great! Nothing fancy, but exactly the right blend of seasonings locked into a juicy mound of ground beef. I returned yesterday for my weekly stock-up but the meatloaf wasn't there! Lovely store! Unfortunately everything I bring home smells like fragrance. The plastic wrap on cheese smells like perfume , which permeates to the cheese. I have noticed this for about a year now. Adams is not the Adams it was when the original brothers were running it. The people running it now are less concerned about the customer and more concerned about gouging every last dollar out of them. Their prices are sky high but the quality most of the time is not commensurate with the prices. $8 for hearts of romaine that are mostly green, $6 for a pint of blueberries, $7 for Florida's Natural orange juice. I could go on. And customer service is not nearly what it used to be. Sometimes I think they have forgotten what it was that made the Adams stores unique and people's favorite place to shop. Judging by the average review being in the mid 3s, it's apparent many other customers are recognizing the same things. If Stew Leonards had stores around here, they would quickly put Adams out of business. I know I would stop going there in a heartbeat! read more

This store has a mix of a lot of different things. It feels chaotic and many things are above the price I pay in my local store. I like some of the imported specialty items but they are randomly chosen. I am not crazy for the vegetables or fruit. Not many organic choices. I always go here early in the morning with my dad I usually get the double chocolate muffin and the chocolate mouse cake which is all amazing and made fresh early in the morning! Outstanding selection of cheeses, produce, a hot & cold sandwich & food bar, and they even sell their own branded coffee. They have a cafe outside that has a few picnic tables, where you can score some "coconut castaway" ice cream or go for the classic root beer float. I had the Swedish Meatballs with a side of mixed vegetables. Outstanding. It's Dutchess County's version of Stew Leonard's. Will be back for more soon, Covid or not! read more

The butchers are extremely helpful and they make their own sausage! The fish Dept is also good. They will scale fish, cut fish to your liking, and they make great recommendations. I went especially for vegetable plants and marigolds which they had plenty at a great price. $2.29 for a pack. I have always loved shopping at Adams. Lately, I have noticed a change. The bakery items I buy regularly are not available as often. The shelves are not being restocked like they used to be. This place is a mixture between wegmans , whole foods, and home depo garden section. Candy section is unique and big! They have butchers and whole fish on ice. They sell seeds and garden stuff. Really delicious produce and their hamburger meat is soooo good and fresh. The downfall is the chaotic parking lot in front. What can I say about this amazing place!? Talk about having everything from outdoor /indoor nursery to bird food to a beautiful gift shop, chocolate shop, fresh produce and florist, deli with great selections and hot food for take out! Their prices are very good and reasonable! Bit my favorite area is the candy and nut section. I always seem to wind up bringing home some sort of treat from that section! I wish Adams was closer to my town because I would be there almost every day! The staff wears a shirt that says "I love that store" so so true, I think everybody does! We have eaten in the café a few times and they have really really good selection of lunch items fresh off the grill and don't forget to finish it off with some soft serve ice cream or freshly made flavors, yummy! The appeal is obvious the moment you walk through the front entrance: it's the produce - lots of it, at very good prices. You might find a few items at better prices at other grocery stores if you shop weekly "loss leaders," but overall you can't do better than here. The meat department has a great variety too. The meat prices might not always be as competitive as in other stores, but if you wait for sales and stock up, you'll do well. I personally like that they carry Bell & Evans poultry and local grass-fed beef. "More conventional" grocery store items, such as packaged goods or baking supplies, might not always be as competitively priced. If you shop around regularly, you might find some of these items priced better at other grocery stores, or maybe even Target. But if you're interested in 1-stop shopping, it's tough to do better. They also have some specialty items I can't always find elsewhere, such as store-made sushi with brown rice, a good selection of corn-syrup-free soda, and Adirondack Creamery ice cream. And on my most recent visit there, I discovered they have finally added a hot food station - the one thing I felt they were missing compared to the other Adams'. read more

I dont know if they are washing their produce in contaminated water, or have unsanitary employees but both times I got terrible stomach cramps almost immediately and nausea and vomiting. This review is regarding Adams nursery. Every year I buy my plants upstate from the Amish. This year unable to make the trip purchased from Adams along with the soil. Everything is loaded with mealy bugs. In all my years of doing flowers on my deck in summer never had this issue. I have had to throw out almost all plants and have feeling last 2 about to go. Mealy bugs originates in the nursery for most part or contaminated soil. The soil, miracle grow potting mix, though packed in plastic bags, was thoroughly soaked when I got it. I bought it from the outside area. I have a variety of flowers and they all have it. I spent a lot of money on flowers and soil. I will never buy my flowers or soil from Adams again. read more
