Plenty of hiking / walking trails. The pool is not heated and we were there early in the season so it was still too cold for us. The hot tub was great, but could use a little TLC. It is plenty big (made by the residents themselves!). I had to rewrite the brakes in our trailer while there and not one person complained, in fact one of the residents lent me some tools! It's a little rustic and could use an infusion of money to improve the maintenance; however all-in-all a great place. Check out the nearby Serpent Mound park! We will definitely stay there again!

While the entire Cincinnati riverfront is gorgeous, we couldn't find a place that was covered where we could eat. As we were driving by we saw this park! Parking was $5 and the park was empty except for our party. The bridge provided covering from the rain and there were many picnic tables surrounding the park. The play structure is made out of trex building material and included LOTS of elements for our kids to play. Swing set, monkey bars, climbing rope, etc. the ground is squishy. There is a good amount of noise from the cars driving over the bridge overhead, but it was a sweet spot to eat lunch and let the kids work off some steam.

The sign on the bridge indicates that it was built circa 1869 (after the end of the Civil War) and is an "81 foot Multiple Kinpost Truss". And that's good enough for me. The bridge is in fantastic condition (recently restored?) and there was absolutely no graffiti, perhaps because it is situated rather fat from most traffic and people. It is 7 miles from here to I-64 at the Kentucky Route 801 exit. If you're interested in covered bridges, this is worth a stop to admire. There is at least one park bench to sit. There is a second bridge downstream and 5 miles by road. This is the Mushroom House in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Cincinnati. The amount of detail is really breathtaking: circular steel steps, deck rails of wood shingles, stained glass windows, tiled ceilings... of course, I had to snap some pics. How often do we come to Cin City. The original owner/builder by the name of Terry Brown has passed away in 2008. It was started to get built by architect Terry Brown in 1992 and completed in 2006. Terry Brown him self resided in it until his passing in 2008. This house looks like a mushroom from a certain angle, and like an owl from another. It is a fairytale house in the real world. There's so much fine detail, there's no wonder it had taken this genius man 14 years to complete this artistic masterpiece of a home. The spiral orange stair case was chained off not allowing access to the public. There was a car parked in the driveway as well as a surveillance camera. They also had a "no trespassing" sign. The land around, although very minimal is very well groomed and well kept. Something tells me there are people who currently reside here. I don't know how I would feel about living in a home that gets so much attention and that is always being photographed. The Mushroom House is a must see in Cincinnati. For the kiddos, there are multiple playgrounds, a basketball card, baseball fields, and shelters you can rent for parties. The best part of this park though is the creek. We have fun in the creek when it's warm. My kids love catching crawdads when it's warm out. I loved it as a kid too. I still have fun, especially watching them and how happy they are. Pictures will always be great memories. The only bad thing about this park, is that they took out the dog park! The dog park was so nice. There was a section for small dogs, and a section for large dogs. My dog had fun and so did I. I loved getting to play with everyone else's dogs. It was also great that it was so close to the Kenton county animal shelter. I hope they bring it back someday.

The trail is pretty level on the parking side. There is a playground, but we did not venture over to it. There once was a dog park here. A sign indicates that the park was closed "due to reoccuring damage." The sign also states that they are looking for an alternate location for the Paw Park. Rigt now thw area is a giant field. Dogs must be on a leash at this park. Many people were there with their dogs, including us. When passing eachother, people were using good doggie etiquette. People were picking up after their dogs as well. I took away a star due to the amount of trash. There were a couple of used diapers, cups, many cigarette butts and feminine hygiene products. These were more on the parking side, and many were near the water. Across the river was much cleaner.

There's a self explore cave, too, but you need two adults minimum in your party and each with a flashlight. The arches and natural bridges in this park were amazing sites, scattered along the park. I took on the challenge of hitting each arch / bridge, and it was doable in under 5 miles if you move between accesses.

None of my great nieces and nephews had been inside a cave. We arrived at roughly 11:15 AM. I purchased tickets at the Welcome Center for everyone to tour Saltpetre (AKA Saltpeter) Cave at 11:30 AM. It was $54 for three adults and four children. We followed our tour guide across the street, up a hill, then down the stairs and into the earth we went. This cave was used in the War of 1812 to make gunpowder. We got a history lesson from our tour guide who was so patient with the kids. This cave was the driest of all the caves at the park, so no stalactites hanging from the ceiling. But bonus was, no water on our shoes. If you want to see bats, this is not the cave. The cave used to have thousands of bats. The park conservationists are working to increase bat living in this cave. After the tour, we had to turn up our feet, one at a time, so the tour guide could spray the bottom of our shoes with soap and water. He told us this was done to prevent carrying germs/bacteria out of the cave that could harm the bat population at the park. The tour lasted roughly 45 minutes. It was worth the time and money! The kids had a blast. Only one was scared when the lights were turned off momentarily so we could experience total darkness and silence. My nephew Cooper lasted about 3 minutes, then, in his little whimpering voice, he asked if the lights could be turned back on. I can't say enough great things about our cave guide. We left the Welcome Center and headed to the public pool. The pool was free for those camping and staying in cabins. We went on a Monday, so everyone was $3. Pretty good deal! The pool was clean. Only light snacks available, icecream, chips and soda. I highly recommend you add Carter Caves to your summer fun list!
