The big tree, lights, little details everywhere. While visiting, they had a horse and carriage come to pick up the residents for a ride around Newport. The smiles on their faces were enormous. Once everyone came inside, we were treated to hot chocolate and other goodies. They also had a wonderful program called "Elves for Elders", where residents make wish lists and people surprise them with gifts, it was just really thoughtful and added so much Christmas magic. It truly was a winter wonderland. Thank you Village House staff for everything you have done for my mother!

I came here to recover from a heart operation, and while that has gone as well as can be expected, there are serious deficiencies here. For one, the food offered is completely inappropriate: no accommodation has been made for the fact that I should be eating a heart healrhy diet, to the point that I've had to make arrangements for food to be brought in from outside. But this is the real problem: I came here three weeks ago with a serious dental problem and the administration has done absolutely nothing to help, to the point of refusing to provide transportation to a dentist appointment that I made myself. This facility is chronically understaffed: many of the staff recently quit, with the gap is made up with contract employees who do the absolute minimum amount of work. Most of the remaining permanent staff are caring and helpful, but they are simply outgunned by an administrative staff who return any attempt at asking for help with a belligerence that is just shocking. So I will be leaving for Mass General to have the staples holding my sternum together removed as soon as transportation can be arranged. Via Uber. Don't come here! Don't subject somebody you care about to this abysmal treatment!

The main area has a large nurse's station in the middle that you pass on the way to the rooms. Aunt Anne was comfortable in her room, where they allow her to have lots of pictures of the family. They provide all the meds and food throughout the day. The centre is a short-term rehabilitation place with 66 beds. Overall it was similar to others in the area, maybe a tad above average. It participates in Medicare and Medicaid.

How did the doctor and nurses not notice his legs were 2 to 3 times normal size and that his lungs were full of fluid? I called the owner to make him aware of the poor care my dad received and he was rude and very unprofessional. He even asked me if I thought Roberts put the fluid in my dad. How ignorant is that? I don't think he even knows how fluid can build up inside a person. The poor woman across the hall from him would be slumped over with her head resting on her food table for hours. I asked for a recliner for my dad for 3 days. Finally got one that didn't recline. The patients sit on hard chairs ALL day. Awful place.

The doctor made uneven and unfair comparisons which relayed their lack of education and understanding. Overall, what was absent was a sense of intelligence...and though there were several opportunities not once did they demonstrate the ability to meet a challenge with proper skill and knowledge. A rehab facility with no expertise or honest assessment replaced with a dismal environment? I'd look elsewhere.

Others were not -- particularly one therapy assistant who hardly responded to my asking her to lower her voice and focus on therapy rather than her own histrionics. Additionally, the therapy room was devoid of much standard equipment The bathroom that was next to my bed was generally filthy with spilled urine that was not cleaned. I advise anyone who needs PT or OT treatment in a skilled care facility to seek other accommodations.

My loved one was there and was treated very Rude by most of the aides. The aides showed No Compassion or Empathy. While there she allegedly contracted a MRSA Infection in her wound and in her blood causing her to have temps up to 103*! MRSA is caused by a highly Contagious Staph Bacteria transmitted by Poor Hand Washing and/or Careless Wound Care administered by Staff Members as I didn't change my own wound care dressings. It was not uncommon to be left on the bedpan or on a commode for up to 15 minutes. Once while an aide was assisting my loved one back to bed, the aide bellowed out these exact words "WHY YOU SHAKE SO MUCH YOU GOT THE PARKINSON'S OR SOMETHING?". Ironically she was being treated for Parkinson's Syndrome and my loved one began to cry as the aide walked out of the room. Another time while visiting at mealtime, someone came out of the kitchen and yelled down the corridor "WE JUST RAN OUT OF CHICKEN WE'RE GONNA HAVE TO GIVE THE REST PEANUT BUTTER AND JELLY SANDWICHES!". When her Dr. found out that she allegedly contracted MRSA while Rehabbing at ROYAL He put ROYAL on his Do Not Admit to this Facility List ! All I can say is Do your Homework. Do not trust the Medicare.gov website for accurate ratings, but rather rely on word of mouth from Friends and Co-Workers.

I went straight from the ACI to PH residential program mostly because my family had heard that this was by far the best program in the state. I went in with the attitude that no matter what the rules and traditions of the program were I was going to follow them. For the first time in my life I was desperate to get and stay sober. I did well for about 4 months. At this point the house had become loaded with residents that were really drug dealers and have come to the program to get out of jail early. It was also at this time residents were shooting dope and getting away with it. They would carry around condoms full of clean urine provided by other residents. I had never shot dope in my life. I was there for crack and alcohol. So basically I shot heroin for the first time in PH. While this was not all on the staff you have to admit it says a lot about the place.

We have a family member who is recuperating here after a back surgery and from the day she entered this skilled nursing facility, she has bee treated well. Every staff member here is well trained and it is clear that this is a patient oriented facility. Additionally, the food at this facility is great and overall the atmosphere is positive. We have been to other establishments that put off a sense of "doom and gloom", and hands down this place surpasses them. In the end, if you have a choice in which rehabilitation program you want to attend on Cape, this is the one!

Dr. Kelley is the most kind and giving man I've ever met…read more 30 years ago, he and his wife sponsored my family from Vietnam. They didn't know who we were, but wanted to help. They saved our lives. Despite having 3 kids of their own, they adopted an orphan from Vietnam. And since sponsoring us, they have sponsored 4 other families from Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. I don't know if you all know what a burden it is to sponsor a family. You are physically and finanacially responsible for these people until they can get on their feet. It's easier said than done. Just imaginge a whole family of strangers (who don't speak your language) living with you. They have opened up their hearts and their home for people in need. And for the past 23 years, Dr. Kelley has been traveling to Haiti ( a place in political turmoil) twice a year to work in the local hospital and help with the local orphans. He and his wife will be traveling there next year to also help reform the educational system. What a truly wonderful man! If you live in this area, is there any doubt as to which doctor you should see?

Kelley needs to be recognized as a great Dr. as well as a humanitarian. It does not surprise me to see what Tu D. wrote about Dr. Kelley, I knew that he went to Haiti twice a year and that he had adopted a child from Vietnam but the sponsorship of families was something I didn't know about, but that really doesn't surprise me.... I've had Dr. Kelly as my PCP for a few years now and have always found him to be an incredibly caring individual who also is a really good, practical, doctor. don't expect a lot of bells and whistles when you go to his office, in fact he will probably complain to you about how the "damn computers" are making his life as a doctor a living hell... Do expect to find someone who will listen to you, treat you as an expert in your own care, and work with you to fix whatever is broken. He doesn't automatically reach for the prescription pad, but may just tell you why your mom was right about chicken soup is good for you when you have a cold and the science behind it.... I would strongly recommend that anyone go to see Dr. Kelley, being a good guy goes a long way in being a good doctor... and he's a great guy.
