    Calamari dinner

We had a really nice dining experience at Adega restaurant. From the moment we walked in to the minute we left the service was phenomenal. We were greeted immediately and our water was replenished and poured quickly as soon as we finished each glass. THE FOOD: Both of the entrees that we ordered came with mixed vegetables including carrots, potatoes, beets and kale. The vegetables were cooked to perfection and tasted fantastic! * Grilled Squid The grilled squid was really good. I let was served with a lemon, coriander & garlic olive oil sauce that they made gluten and dairy free. The squid was cooked perfectly and tasted amazing! * Pan-Roasted Herb Crusted Salmon The salmon was delicious! It was served with a scrumptious pineapple compote that made the dish unique and one I'll have to order again. * Bread Basket We were surprised we were charged for the bread basket. I'm gluten intolerant and could not eat it but my fiancé asked for bread and we were charged for the entire basket. We thought it was complementary. When another table asked for bread the waiter told them it was extra but they didn't mention this to us. Allover the food was really tasty and the ambiance was really nice. We really enjoyed our meal and am looking forward to going back.

Really good service, excellent food. Safran risotto was the best . Totally recommend. Seafood stew also recommended specially if you get bread to dip on the stew. Nice classy environment.

I came here for an event, where we could order from a pre-set menu. We were in the lower level around a large table surrounded by bottles of wine and what looked like a prison cell. Service was great and the food was good as well. For an appetizer, I ordered a caesar salad. For the entree, I ordered a salmon dish. We also each received a trio of mini desserts. The caesar salad was great. I enjoyed the thin slices of cheese and the long, thin crouton on top. I appreciated that the dressing was light. I thought the salmon dish was too salty. The excess salt kind of ruined an otherwise perfectly cooked salmon. The desserts were excellent. I enjoyed the pecan pie and the creme brulee. I love pecan pie, but I don't normally enjoy creme brulee, so I guess that says a lot. Overall, an excellent place for dinner with friends and family.

Summerlicious time!! It's on until July 22nd so don't miss it! Came here today with friends for lunch for the Summerlicious Prix Fixe lunch menu for $28 which includes an appetizer, main and dessert. I started with the seafood bisque, then grilled squid and finished with the sorbet dessert. What really stood out for me was the grilled squid which was outstanding. Overall, my friends and I had a fabulous time. I'm sure that I will be back soon.

I was here for summerlicious with a bunch of coworkers months ago and had a great experience. So when I was part of the committee to plan our work winter social - Adega was at the top of the list. It was walking distance from our office, had great food and service. And - the most important criteria - had a room that could seat 50-60 people! Our staff party was held upstairs in a their private room and bar. The space had sound equipment, a private washroom, and coat rack. In the summer - there's a balcony too. From scouting the location to booking; confirming reservations and the day-of event - everything went without a hitch. Manny and his staff were very helpful, and their assistance throughout was appreciated. We had 3-course pre-fixe and each person had their choice of appetizer and mains. All the meals were prepared at time of order - so the food came out pipping hot and fresh! But that also means there was a bit of a wait for each course to be served, but we were warned ahead of time about this - so we planned team activities throughout to keep people entertained/busy. We did decorate the space with more festive items - nothing was allowed to stick to the walls, but we had table decorations that worked. Overall, everyone enjoyed the event - which is a tough feat to please 50+ people! So if you're looking for a venue for a company party, I'd recommend Adega.

Winterlicious Review - Don't bother with the Winterlicious lunch menu, not worth the money or time. My friend and I were excited to try Adega and figured we'd stop by for Winterlicious. Worst decision ever. SERVICE I arrived early and was seated relatively quickly but I had to wait for my friend. The waiter kept coming by to the table and asked if my friend arrived. I told him she will be here in 15 minutes (ie: the actual time of the booking) and that we'd need some time before ordering. My friend sat down, barely had a sip of water or even time to look at the menu and the waiter was looming over our shoulders trying to see what we would like to order. No walkthrough of the menu or recommendations when I asked what he would suggest off the Winterlicious menu. FOOD I've never been so upset to want to send food back to the kitchen. Sloppy presentation and bland food. I even mentioned it to the waiter. We were both starving and upset after the lunch. We got: Seafood Bisque with Dungeness Crab Aioli [flavourless, watery, lukewarm] Beef Carpaccio with Spicy St. Jorge Cheese [the best dish we had] Linguine with Tiger Shrimp in a Chipotle Pepper Tomato Sauce [4-5 pieces of shrimp, slightly undercooked linguine - didn't finish the dish] Mushroom Risotto with Porcini-Truffle Butter & Parmesan (vegetarian) [smelled great but tasted like mushy porridge, and I felt like they added water cause it was not silky or creamy. Flavourless and sloppy presentation - didn't finish the dish] Trio of Seasonal Tarts [couldn't care less about the dessert, dry tarts so it was really difficult to chew] Mixed Sorbet (vegetarian) I really hope this was just an one off experience because I've heard nothing but wonderful comments about this restaurant. If you are planning on doing a horrible job or can't source good ingredients to work for the Winterlicious pricing, don't bother participating in because it's just going to tarnish your brand.

I have been to Adega many times with my coworkers for lunch. The food never disappoints. The seafood is extremely fresh and every dish I have had so far was delicious. The grilled calamary is amazing. For the main I especially like their saffron seafood risotto. It has different types of fish, as well as calamari, shrimp, mussles, and a subtle hint of saffron which gives the dish a beautiful aroma and color. The service has always been great as well. I will be back again for sure! (Hint: their complimentary olives are sooo good! So is their complimentary bread!)

There were four of us and ordered the sangria to share between three of us which was a lot but refreshing. Apps were Lucas Freitas (fried calamari) and Chourico a Bombeiro (flaming sausage). Both were delicious. I forgot to mention the bread and Piri Piri Sauce which came in the form of a large bottle. These were complimentary and it's nice to see a restaurant continue this tradition. There used to be a very crusty artisan bread that was served but over the years that has disappeared and it's a white bread now. Three of us had chicken/chicken breast and one had veal. Even the small portion was very generous. The salad was underwhelming but a pretty presentation. The server got a couple of orders wrong and seemed very distracted. The piece de resistance was the "Portuguese Tarts" which made a wonderful finale to a good Al fresco dining experience.

The potatoes were bland, as if they were boiled rather than roasted. Or perhaps this was just a lazy attempt at slapping an order together because it was via Uber Eats? As always, their peri peri sauce is among the best in the city and saved the meal. Either way, lots of better options in the city these days.

Return visits while in Toronto (2 of 3)…read more I came back to Perla and its appeal, at least to me, is very much still there. You are greeted upon walking in to this family run Portuguese restaurant. This time, I tried a bitoque, a steak with an egg on top. It would be on the list of 10 typical entrees you'd find in a Portuguese restaurant. It was preceded by a salad, for which I selected the Caesar salad option. I followed it up with a dessert which was a goblet with a frothy type of gelatin, pudding, or mousse. The flavor was either passion fruit or guava. I forgot what it was immediately upon leaving because I devoured it so quickly! The frothiness made it lighter, such that it wouldn't weigh you down. By now, you should be able to tell this was a very good meal. A few things round out the experience. The bread was accompanied by a pate' or dip of sorts. It was excellent. I didn't know what it was, therefore I asked. It had tuna as well as a good number of other ingredients. Together, it did not taste very fishy or potent in any way, except incredibly flavorful. Their cuisine is representative of all of Portugal, although Perla's roots are in Northern Portugal. The painted ceramic rooster for good luck one often sees hails from Barcelos, just slightly north of the Porto area. In fact, the fueling and rest areas on the toll road through Barcelos have these modern metallic renditions of the rooster that are minimalistic silhouettes you look right through. I might add a few other things that made me glad I returned to Perla. For one, Lusophones are well represented among the customers. But, more importantly, they fill an important niche for me since so many Portuguese locales miss this mark. They are essentially a reliable mid-range restaurant with a broad enough menu. Here, you can avoid the end points that I don't much care for or seek - the piri piri (or peri peri) chicken places where you accompany your order with a pastel de nata that the "hey, wow man" types (at least on the Plateau in Montreal) tend to frequent and the high-end restaurants where Portuguese leans haute cuisine, a lot is about presentation, and the portions are small. (In Montreal, one such place should immediately come to mind.) I was happy that I stopped by, using the TTC card with which you can avoid the crazy Toronto traffic and parking hassles. The College Street streetcar practically stops in front of Perla's door. It all adds up. The team running this restaurant puts their hearts into their work. I am going to go with 5 stars, with each one representing a letter in the word P-E-R-L-A.

We ordered the Sea Bream Ceviche and chips, quarter Octopus and Patatas Bravas. The highlight was the ceviche. The octopus was unfortunately a little overdone, which made it tough. We also sat at the bar and had a few ordered of cocktails with the food. Be aware that the bar itself slopes down towards you. With that being said, my partner put her drink down on the sloped part and it fell all over both of us, with the bartender seeing it all unfold. He was nice in providing some extra napkins to dry ourselves off, but all he had to offer was "Yup that happens a lot" as opposed to maybe offering to remake the drink which was now 2/3 empty as a result. Was a little disappointed at that service in particular, especially when you're paying upwards of $18 for a small cocktail. The atmosphere was good, however. IF I were to give it another try, I'd probably just opt for drinks and skip the food, which was a little pricier for what you're getting portion-wise and quality.

But when we one of us went to grab the water decanter to refill water three times even while our server watched us and kept walking - that was a no, no. The food was okay and perhaps suffered from staffing issues but when you're paying 100 per plate I would like a better dining experience. The best thing we had was dessert but we waited almost an hour for this. One almost fell asleep waiting. The atmosphere clearly suffered from the tables around us. We could hear how upset people were and they asked for their food to go. I could hear the table next door in Portuguese want the bill. They wanted their dessert and it just wasn't coming.
