We had high hopes for this spot, especially since the ambience was beautiful--perfect for a lovely date night. We ended up ordering quite a few items from the menu. Our favourites were the oxtail pintxo, bravas, wagyu, churros, and flan--each of these really stood out and delivered on flavour. That said, I was especially excited for the paella, and it unfortunately fell short. I've had better paella from a food truck, and for much cheaper. Between the chicken and striploin, we preferred the chicken as it had a more cohesive flavour. The striploin was cooked closer to rare when we asked for medium rare, making it tough to eat, and the rice itself was quite bland. On a positive note, the service was lovely--attentive, warm, and accommodating throughout the night. Our server checked in often without being intrusive and made the experience feel polished and welcoming. Overall, while the ambience and service made for a great evening, the food didn't quite justify the price for me. We recently visited Beso and had an overall enjoyable experience, with a few standout dishes and some that didn't quite land. Service was excellent from beginning to end. The staff were friendly, attentive, and very knowledgeable, offering helpful recommendations and making the experience feel welcoming throughout the meal. The bravas were good and enjoyable, though not particularly memorable. Dessert was solid overall. The churros were good, with the dulce de leche being the preferred dipping sauce, and the chocolate mousse was rich and indulgent. The scallops were beautifully plated, but the sauce lacked depth and didn't leave a lasting impression, making it a dish we wouldn't order again. The interior is beautiful. But it does get loud. Between the music and the crowd, it was tough to hear each other at times. Service-wise, amazing! The hostess and our server were super attentive and kind throughout the night. The food was alright. However, the shrimp wasn't quite it. Atmosphere of this restaurant is amazing, with an amazing bar, Spanish decor and a luxurious feel. Service is friendly and attentive from end to end. The food is just okay with unique takes on Tapas. Stand out dish was the eggplant - it was thin sliced, fried and served with a soft cheese. Manchego croquetas was also very good. Some of the issues I had was the beef carpaccio (which was sliced too thin), and didn't taste like beef, potatoes bravas (was over-seasoned). Went on a Saturday around 7 pm and the energy in the room was high. I've been here before they rebranded to Beso but didn't think much of it. The vibes were easily one of the best on King West. The space feels lively and celebratory without being chaotic, which makes it great for a fun dinner out. We did the $65 winterlicious menu, started with the scallops, which were excellent and one of the highlights of the meal. They were well executed and full of flavor. For mains, we ordered the mushroom paella which was surprisingly delicious and flavourful, and the short rib skewer, both of which were very good and satisfying. The food overall stood out compared to other Winterlicious menus we tried. We ordered champagne to share, and the glassware was beautiful because of these "stars" that were bubbling. The real star of the night, though, was dessert. The churros were the best I have had. Crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, and perfectly sweet. I would honestly order two portions of churros next time instead of trying another dessert. Service kept up with the pace of the room and everything flowed smoothly. Table for 4, Saturday night. Regal restaurant with a beautiful bar in the center. Calm environment that would be perfect for a date or romantic night out. They do also have a private room upstairs on a balcony, great space for any celebration. Split jugs of red Sangria. This is a dry Sangria that really grows on you. Not much fruit in it but also didn't need it since it wasn't sweet. The appetizers/tapas were the highlight of the meal. We had 5 in total. The Datiles (dates wrapped in Iberian pancetta) were outrageous. The mushroom Croquettes are highly recommended. Octopus was good. Wagyu meatballs didn't impress much. One of the four of us loved it. I felt that the spicy sauce made it hard to appreciate the quality of the meat. The Iberico de Bellota, aged Iberian ham, was excellent. As a main we split a large Paella Patria ($68) - see photo. It does take 45 minutes to prepare which worked fine since we were focusing on tapas first. This wasn't my favorite paella. It was good but didn't really wow us with flavor. Some felt that the quantity of rice was lacking. Seafood inside the paella came out perfectly. For dessert we had the tres leches - see photo. Delicious. The decoration and vibe is like a night club, the interior is beautiful, the service is ok, but the food is just so so. We tried many dishes ordered by the birthday boy including Hamberquesa "smash burgers" (just ok), Shishito Peppers (good), stuffed olives (just ok), Oxtail Pintxo (too sweet), Seafood Pealla (average), Wagyu (not very good which is unusual for Wagyu), and some other dishes I can't remember. There aren't a lot of Spanish restaurants in my neighbourhood, so I'm glad I made the trip downtown with family. Patria offers amazing food and excellent service. We made reservations for a Saturday night in advance for 6:30pm. The restaurant wasn't too busy when we first arrived, but it sure was packed by the time we left. I don't recall ever seeing a walk-in line but regardless, easier to make reservations and secure a table. Our waitress was very attentive throughout the entire meal - offering insights into how many dishes to order, which dishes were her favourite, and which dishes are a must-have. For a table of 4, we ordered 6 small tapas (iberico ham, blistered peppers, hamachi ceviche, spanish octopus, argentinian shrimp, braised oxtail), an item from the grill (cornish hen) and a large paella to share. The smaller dish tapas were perfect for sharing amongst the 4 of us, supplemented by generous portions of cornish hen. Each was seasoned perfectly and unique, though our family favourites were definitely the umami iberico ham, succulent argentinian shrimp, beautifully grilled cornish hen and definitely the hearty paella. We were quite amazed with how well everything was cooked, specifically the seafood which typically is poorly done, overcooked, and rubbery, but not at Patria. The food tasted fresh and the spices never overpowered the natural sweetness of the ingredients. We absolutely love dessert, so we basically ordered all the items. Our favourite was the new Florones con Limón - a nice, light, refreshing citrusy pastry, though the decadent Torre de Chocolate was a very close second. We were pleasantly surprised by how much pistachio flavour was in the Pistacho Tres Maneras, so that's also a must try if you have the stomach space after eating everything. The ambiance and decor were stunning, only exceeded by the level of service from our waitress. She didn't hesitate to stop us from overordering, and actually recommended to pace ourselves before bombarding the table with dishes we couldn't finish. Needless to say, the service was top-notch. I have mixed feelings about this restaurant. On one hand, parts of the experience were lovely - the space is beautiful, the service was friendly and professional, and you can tell it's meant to be an upscale, authentic Spanish tapas experience. However, a few things really missed the mark for me. First, the food. I ordered the paella and unfortunately it was very disappointing. The flavour was flat, it didn't taste fresh or well seasoned, and the portion felt skimpy for the price. For a high-end Spanish restaurant, I expected much better quality and authenticity from such a signature dish. Second, as a non-meat eater and animal lover, I was uncomfortable with some of the décor. There were bullfighting images on the walls and a full animal leg (jamón) displayed at the bar on a metal stand. I understand this reflects Spanish tradition, but for me personally it was quite upsetting and made it hard to fully enjoy the atmosphere. I did share this feedback with staff, who were polite, but I wanted to mention it here for others who might feel the same. Overall, there were positives - good service and a nice ambiance - but between the disappointing paella and the décor choices, it wasn't the experience I had hoped for. Datiles $16 3/5 I thought this was quite unique so I decided to give it a try after reading the reviews. It came in 5 it was all too sweet for all 3 of us. I liked the profile of it if it wasn't as sweet as jam. Croquetas Setas $14 5/5 This came in 3 so the portion felt a bit small but it tasted fantastic. Very nicely cooked on the outside with a nice creamy, truffle flavor that tasted just right. Beef tartare $16 3.5/5 It looked promising but I found it way too vinegar-y. Seared foie gras $28 5+/5 This was amazing. It was the highlight of the night. The foie gras had an amazing texture that was just right, melted in your mouth, and tasted sublime. The combination of the walnuts and figs added a great texture and taste to the dish as well. Pulpo $23 3/5 This dish didn't make sense to me. The octopus was done well, but the combination with the potatoes just did not go very well. It was also quite bland. Roasted bone marrow $24 3.75/5 It was more of a beef cheek marmalade dish than it was a bone marrow dish. There was not a lot of bone marrow, and the lack of flavor by the bone marrow was compensated with the beef cheek marmalade. Paella patria $70 3/5 This was quite disappointing for a namesake paella (or 'homeland' paella). The seafood was cooked well but the rice just tasted like tomato rice with a tiny bit of salt. The seafood was tasty and on the saltier side so my partner was wondering if they made the rice less salty so you can eat it together. I do agree that the seafood and rice go well together if eaten together but there was too much rice for that. I'm not complaining that there wasn't enough seafood. The rice just lacked flavor. Churros $16 4.75/5 The churros was crispy yet fluffy and the sauce (dulce de leche and coffee chocolate) had the perfect amount of sweetness. I loved the bitterness of the chocolate as well. One of the few spots on King West I frequent, Patria does spanish food incredibly well. Their paella is great and they have a lot of other great classic dishes - especially their meats and cheeses. To be frank, I remember this spot being a bit better pre covid - it was an easy 5 stars for me then - and I still love Patria but it didn't quite blow me away as well as it did before. Here's the rundown of the food: - Croquetas: delicious mushroom croquetas with a truffle relish, I love the texture on these - Crudo: a classic with perfect balance of acidity - Pan Con Tomate: one of my favourites, so simple yet so elegant - Meatballs: these were much better when they were wagyu, but they're still pretty good now - Patatas Bravas: another one of our favourite dishes with lots of egg and a lightly crispy potato - Seafood Paella: loved the scallops especially but I do remember it being seasoned differently when I came here pre-Covid, still pretty good nonetheless Overall I'd say this is a delicious spot to try and I love the vibes here - especially the art with some wonderful paintings on the east side of the restaurant. Excellent Spanish restaurant on the King West strip. Been there now for around 10 years so it must be good. Its my first visit back in a few years and I was not disappointed. Service was better than ever and the atmosphere was still very cool. We had a bit of everything from wine to cocktails and everything was great. We did tappa's all around and is the best way to enjoy this place. Bone marrow with the beef topper was off the hook. Best dish of the night. Second best dish was the garlic shrimp. So good and flavourful. I loved the sauce i scooped it out with a spoon and put it on my bread. The dishes I was not impressed with. The tomato bread was tasteless. No salt or olive oil. So you have amazing bread and nice tomatoes with great presentation but no seasoning. This may have been a kitchen mistake I have no idea but not to standard. The chicken liver pate was a bit funky. Something in the dish made it sour either the jam or something to do with the topping threw the dish off. Cheese dishes are a bit disappointing. For almost $50 you get 3 x 1oz slices of cheese and for the most part of the menu this was my least worth it though the cheeses are very good it a premium dish overall. I still think this place is great but they had some off dishes. Be prepared to spend around $100/ person. Thanks for another fun night. read more

(3.5) Patria is a new age, cozy Spanish restaurant with a modern twist. Right in the middle of the Fashion/Entertainment district, it has the spark needed to thrive. We came in for the dinner service recently during the weekend. As we were seated, we were given the rundown on cocktails and how the menu is structured. As a predominantly Spanish tapas cuisine, there were many tapas options with entrée and paella options available. Along with a pitcher of sangria, we settled on Pimientos De Padron, Oveja Con Trufa La Quesera, the Beef Tartare, Whole Branzino and the Paella Patria. All in all, all the dishes came out on time and cooked well; nothing really to report on the peppers and the cheese. The beef tartare was fresh and well-seasoned, however there was quite a bit of water/liquid at the bottom of the plate. The dish was also served with some crackers, but there was no where close to being enough for the amount of crackers for the tartare; we used the sourdough that came with the cheese which actually was better suited for the dish in my opinion. The Branzino and Paella came out next - visually it was picturesque and the freshness of the ingredients was apparent. Both dishes were slightly under seasoned, but tasty nonetheless. The Paella looked and tasted great (other than being a bit under seasoned), I think they missed the mark when it came to Socarrat. Great ambient. Some of the tapas got a bit twisted from the Spanish local ones, but in a good way. Pan con Tomate, Croquetas and Bomba were quite authentic. Patatas Bravas - they chose to add fried egg which I'm not a fan of it as it was an unnecessary richness. Dátiles - omg it was so good. I tend not to have bacons because of too much fat (even at breakfast), but this one was mind-blowing, mainly because they added mash dates inside the bacon wraps, which perfectly balanced the flavour and greasiness. Happy Saturday everyone! I visited patria last weekend and enjoyed some authentic paella and tapas. We got the following: - Paella Patria: argentinian gulf shrimp, pei mussels, fish, peas, clam, saffron - Croquetas de Setas: porcini mushrooms, manchego cheese, truffle aioli (not pictured because we gobbled it up ) - Gambas: argentinian gulf shrimp, garlic, parsley - Sorpresa Cava Sangria: white wine, raspberry peach liqueur, fresh lime, cranberry, rose cava, tart, citrus, light herbed essence The paella was cooked so perfectly, the shrimp were juicy and plump, along with the fresh seafood and saffron rice it all tied together so well! I just wish the flavour was a bit more bold, again this could just be a personal preference for me and my inner Indian craving spice lolol but definitely recommend it for anyone that likes their dishes on the milder side The croquetas were so yummy with the cheese and mushroom stuffing! We inhaled these so quickly and unfortunately didn't get a picture but we throughly enjoyed them The gambas were my favourite pick out of the tapas, you cannot go wrong with these !!!! They're HUGE, juicy and absolutely delicious Last but certainly NOT the least is the super tasty sopresa sangria, the combination of wine and raspberry peach liqueur worked so perfectly with the garnishes, I almost wish I ordered a jug all to myself lol but maybe next time! Came here for a girls Valentine's day and the restaurant was so cute with the embroidery decors. I believe this was my first Spanish tapas restaurant. We got a few tapas to try and couple of mains to share. The Dátiles were really good, it was sweet and savoury in each bites. The empanadas were abit on the pricey side with $7 per piece it was good but overpriced for sure. To my surprise the roasted cauliflower was really good, the sauce which made it yummy. I didn't like the Wagyu meatball because you lose the texture and of the meat.We got the scallop and chorizo paella and it was so delicious and filling as well. This was like a vermicelli seafood dish with what tasted like a creamy sauce on top. Again very unique and delish. 3.7/5 The final dish that came out was Paella Patria. It was as good as it looked! Rice was heavily infused with seafood flavour and tasted superb! 4/5 The server actually forgot to put our last dish in (Albondigas ). Surprisingly we were pretty full with the first 3 dishes, so we told him to forget it. Overall, the experience was top notch. Services was great! Venue was stunning and set a very romantic vibe! While all of the food was delicious and reminiscent of authentic Spanish tapas, my favourite dishes were the Paella de la Huerta (vegetarian) and the mushroom croquettes. My husband and I came here for a date and here's what we ordered: -Datiles: these candied dates wrapped in bacon were DELICIOUS. Sweet, smokey, and savoury. If you have a sweet tooth, these are for you -Pulpo (octopus): very tender, and light in flavour. Good app to start with -Albondigas (wagyu meatballs): also very tender and flavourful. It came in 3, and we had an option to add another one -Paella del Patria: a must must must! Nice sized seafood, the dish was fresh. We ordered a small and it was big enough for both of us to share along with a few other dishes -Churros: very crispy. The dulce de leche sauce was soooo tasty and rich, however, I think it's quite pricy -Cava Sangria: very sweet and fruity, I would skip if you don't like sweet alcoholic drinks The waiter was friendly and knowledgeable, even cracked a few jokes with us. Came here for a company dinner - the food was lovely, and the company even better! Service was decently attentive; our water was constantly refilled and we were able to flag down help when needed. The minute we sat down, we ordered a mushroom paella as the dish takes at least 45 minutes to prepare. Honestly, it took closer to over an hour, as the paella arrived near 8:30PM when we were wrapping up our dinner. We started off ordering a bunch of tapas to share, and also split a bottle of red. The wine was quite smooth and very nice! Next time I'd like to try the sangria. Pimientos de Padron These blistered peppers were a tad oily, but had a great taste! The slight addition of sea salt helped enhance the flavour. For the most part, the peppers were on the sweet side, but there were a couple that had a slight kick! A nice bite to munch on while waiting for more filling plates. Croquetas de Setas This dish was deep fried cheese filled with fragrant mushrooms and truffle aioli. It had a nice flavour and was super delicious , but was a bit too rich for me. That said, it didn't feel too heavy in the moment! The umami flavour from the porcini and truffles made the dish really yummy. Spanish Charcuterie We got a plate full of all the various cuts of meat. Unfortunately, I can't remember the many names, but I was a huge fan of the leaner cuts of meat. There was one that really resembled prosciutto which I thoroughly enjoyed! Though salty, the flavour worked perfectly when paired with the bread and olive oil. Cheese Plate Our plate consisted of three different cheeses, each with two pieces. We got the Oveja con Trufa la Quesera (truffle with pasteurized sheep's milk), a goat milk cheese, and another one (we specifically asked to not get the blue cheese). The cheeses were also served with 6 slices of toast (one for each). Slightly warm and drizzled with olive oil, the bread was a very nice and comforting carb to have. I also quite liked the gelatinized jam/fruit jelly. It was a nice and sweet addition! Ensalada de Alcachofas This salad was quite underwhelming and not that impressive. The shaved cheese added a nice salty profile, the artichokes imparted a great crisp, while the radishes were a refreshing crunch. The portion size was tiny, and not enough to share among five people (another got his own). Patatas Bravas This potato dish was also underwhelming - the fried egg was hearty and comforting, but the potatoes were relatively soft and not as crispy as I'd like. It was a filling dish though; the carbs definitely helped in keeping us content. Paella de la Huerta To be honest, I was hoping for more and expecting more from this paella. The truffle and mushroom taste wasn't particularly prominent - in fact, I found the flavours flat and tasteless. The sofrito also wasn't as crispy as I hoped, though the fried artichokes helped add some texture. It was a decent portion, though I think three people can share a large with no problem finishing it. Churros This was a great and classic Spanish dessert! The churros were in a spiral shape, and topped with these addicting pistachios coated with frosting. I actually picked off the pistachios near the end, when people were finished. I also enjoyed the chocolate dip; it was slightly bitter but had the right amount of sweetness. Chocolate con Aceite This chocolate pudding was so delicious!! It was super smooth with just the right amount of sweetness. The sea salt helped enhance the flavours, and I found myself eating scoop after scoop without restraint. I'm just a total sucker for chocolate mousse or pudding! Patria was a nice experience, and I can't wait to come again to try more of their proteins and mains! I'm definitely inclined to order a paella with meats or seafood next time though, as I found the mushroom one to be a miss. read more

The website said they were serving until 11 pm. At 9:45 pm we arrived and were told they were closed. Their website was still offering reservations at that time; they said they need to update their website. There were people dining in the restaurant . The staff's attitude was flippant. It was to be a nice evening with a relative I seldom see and turned into a burger joint meal. With a staff like that, it was probably fortunate we didn't dine there. AVOID THIS PLACE; though the food might be good (we can't comment as we had no chance to sample it), THEY HAVE LITTLE CONCERN FOR THEIR PATRONS. read more

What we ordered: - datiles - really good with the sweetness from the dates and the salty and smokiness from the bacon - empanada - was a bit too doughy for my liking but the meat and sauce was savoury, overall good - mushroom croquettes - delicious! creamy, cheesy and aromatic - queso frito - fried goat cheese with honey and fig - this was OK to us, maybe we weren't big fans of just eating cheese - Secreto Ibérico (pork flank) - better than I expected, tender, and sweet combination from the sauce - Paella Patria - flavourful, but the bottom was a bit burnt Dessert & drinks: - churros - big churro! crispy but lacks cinnamon flavour - fried milk, lemon sorbet and strawberry sorbet were all very good! - Definitely don't miss out on dessert! - sparkling sangria jug - OK, it was very watered down and volume only suffice one glass per person (quite little imo) Overall, this place have great atmosphere and great food, perfect for date night (if you impressing). Upscale Spanish tapas. Patria is very busy and has many moving parts to it. Our waiter was very nice and continuously checking on us that our water was filled. Paella takes around 45 minutes. Therefore, it's nice to order several other dishes so you're not just waiting with nothing to eat. The little qualm I have is the timing of when the dishes were delivered. We ordered a charcuterie plate (seleccion de embutidos), the mushroom croquettes (croquetas de setas), beef cheek bone marrow artichoke and garlic paella (paella de carillada), and the Spanish octopus. We received our charcuterie plate 1st then the croquettes. But there was too much of a big break in between that and the paella and Spanish octopus. It would be nice if the food was spaced out evenly. The Spanish octopus was a bit on the salty side with potatoes that were still not quite cooked through. I was a bit disappointed there was not more texture on the potatoes. However, one of my favorite dishes was the croquetas de setas. The mushrooms packed a punch on the inside with the crispy texture on the outside. The aioli was a great accompaniment to accomplaminent it's flavors. Overall, Patria is a nice place to come when you want to enjoy a nice dinner or for celebrating. read more

I felt extremely judged when I first walked into Patria, the hostesses stared at us like we should not have been there. We were going to a soccer game after which is why we did not dress up. The thought did cross our mind about walking out because service was so slow and our server did not visit our table for roughly 10 minutes after being seated. We started off with a jug of red sangria, it was good but we have had better. For tapas we decided to order the datiles, croquetas de jamon, queso frito, brussels bravas and empanadas. The datiles and questo frito were fantastic and our favorite tapas of the night. The croquetas de jamon were good but extremely overpriced. The brussels bravas and empanadas were disappointing, do not waste your money on these dishes. I wish our server was a little more upbeat and helpful. Patria has mediocre tapas with disappointing service. read more
