[[HIGHLIGHT]]Modern tapas spot with a curated rustic feel.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Calamari and octopus were cooked perfectly, super tender and not at all chewy. Crudo was good. Food was on the pricier side but not as expensive as I thought per other reviews. Great service. I'd come back to try the paella and other drinks.

This used to be our go to place for Spanish food, then it became so expensive and paella is getting soggy and average taste. The paella is supposed to be crispy at the bottom, but they don't have that burning crispy feel any more. All the tapas are small volume, finish in bites, expensive at the same time, although they are quite tasty. Our server was a very nice lady with smiles all the time. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant is well decorated, medium size, good for gathering and parties.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

[[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant was nicely laid out and decorated.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Open concept kitchen and the smells coming from the kitchen were so good![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Their signature paella was flavorful and yummy. The seafood was not overcooked and the rice was not mushy. We were greeted right away but throughout the evening I felt a bit rushed as they kept coming back and interrupting us mid conversation. I do look forward to going back to try their other menu items.

It's my first time to try Spanish food. [[HIGHLIGHT]]High ceiling when we stepped in.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The host was nice to seat us. We arrived around 6:45pm on Tuesday night. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was not busy for the first whole night. I guessed it was weekdays.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The entire restaurant, one waitress and one buser. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's an high end restaurant. I would recommend for friends that like to chat and drink. Quiet and nice.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Also, they have quite amount of appetizers to share. We had the Beef Empanadas and Paella De Tapagria. All of them were signatures of Spanish food. Beef Empanadas was like a beef tart and Paella De Tapagria was like a seafood rice. Beef Empanadas was good, but not as saucey as the tart; seafood rice was a bit salty, the pan was big and hot, but not much as seafood pieces as I expected. Also, veggies were not in the dishes, you have to order vegetables separately. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Overall, we still like this restaurant. Nice environment and quiet.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

This place is a hidden gem tucked away in a regular plaza. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Inside is spacious with a cozy, rustic look.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Beef Empanadas and Mushroom Croquetas tasted good. The croquetas had a nice truffle flavour. Jamon Wrapped Dates were delicious. The salty ham and sweet dates made a tasty combo. Calamari Frito and Pan Con Tomate with Anchovies were decent. The anchovies were a bit small though. Paella de Tapagría was pretty tasty. It had lots of seafood and meat on top, and the rice was soaked in flavorful gravy. Churros were quite crispy and not greasy, though would have been nicer to pair with chocolate sauce than dulce de leche. The staff was very friendly and attentive. We especially liked our hostess, who was always smiling and knew a lot about the dishes. Came here for Valentine's dinner. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambience and energy of this place is fantastic- if you like noise and an open kitchen.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service is great and efficient, with the plates coming out quickly. We ordered 6 dishes but for us the standout dishes were the beets and ricotta tapas, and bacon wrapped dates. They were great bites. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Two negatives, it was crowded with tight seating and the parking lot is nuts because there are so many restaurants.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We had to park at the bank and walk through un shovelled sidewalks.

My parents held their anniversary dinner here recently and asked us to partake w/ them. We were sat in a booth near the entrance so it was kinda chilly everytime someone opened the door haha. Service was quite good from our waitress (I forgot her name)! Lychee & tropical sangrias: My bro got a lychee sangria. I tried the tropical one. I think the lychee sangria was more unique. The tropical sangria was too familiar of a citrus juice kinda taste. Truffled beef sliders: You get 3 in 1 order. The meat was juicy but I do wish they patties were larger in diameter. The buns were toasted but they were much larger than the patties so you end up w/ bites of bare bread. I think if they increased the size of the patties to get meat in every bite these would be fantastic. Mushroom croquetas: For a veggie dish these were quite tasty! The outside was very crispy and the inside had an almost risotto texture inside. I thought it would taste very potatoey but the flavour of mushrooms permeated the inside all the way through. It tasted like cream of mushroom soup. Beef empanadas: These were good but BEWARE you only get 2 per order. So at a $10 price point, I would say this dish is a rip off ($5 for ONE empanada??). Prolly would not order these again even though the beef inside was rich. Broccolini + romesco: I actually quite liked this dish. Broccolini is somewhat of an acquired taste. It has the bitter aftertaste of an asparagus but the bulbs of broccoli. I think the seasoning was on point and the bitterness was offset by the acid of from the romesco sauce. Half grilled octopus: UBER tender octopus tentacles. Presentation-wise there's no doubt this is a showstopper. The tentacles were a lil bit too charred for my mom's taste but I liked that blackened taste off the grill. Roasted bone marrow: Cool to try once and snap photos but honestly not worth the $19 price tag. It's not even a full marrow. It's like one half of a bone. If I return I most likely won't order this again. Miso cabbage + iberico: I was ok w/ this dish as I can eat spicy but it was probably the least liked dish by everyone. The miso was very strong and clashed w/ the strong flavour of the iberico. Add the spiciness into the mix and you just have a very strong tasting dish without much balance to cut back on the richness. Paella de carne asada & paella de mariscos: We ordered 2 paellas. The one w/ all the meats and the one w/ all the seafood. I think we unanimously liked the seafood one more. I think cooking all the seafood w/ the rice let the seafood juices permeate through the rice so it was extra umami. The steak was slightly overcooked in the meat paella as well. Churros: For dessert, we ordered churros. You get 4 in one order and it comes w/ what looked like dulce de leche. The churros themselves were perfection but the dulce de leche was too liquidy in consistency imo. It should've been much thicker. It was also lacking that "oomph" and was too mild in flavour. Final thoughts: At almost $500 (for 5 ppl), I think it was definitely overpriced for the portions you get. Sangria, paella, croquettas, octopus and broccolini are must tries. Would only come back for a special occasion but not on a regular basis. It's way too expensive to dine here regularly. I wish they would be a lil less stingy on some of the items like the empanadas!

Grilled Octopus legs and the traditional sangria

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Visited on a week night for a celebration, the atmosphere was on the quieter side with a few larger groups dining early.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The staff are friendly and attentive with the host offering to store our coats. The paella was excellent, perfectly done with a great variety of protein ( seafood, sausages and chicken). The sangria was flavourful without the sweetness. The octopus legs were a bit of a chewy texture but the pork and harissa sauce pairing was ideal. The chocolate cremoso was decadent with a hint of orange and a rich custard cream. The churros were just okay, nothing special. Overall the food is great however this restaurant is a bit on the pricier side.

It is a nice restaurant with a good vibe for celebrations or getting together with friends, families, and loved ones. It's for Mother's Day celebration this time and we've made a good choice! The staff greeted us upon arrival and was prompt with our reservation. Good service throughout the dinner as well. Highlight was the Spanish Paella Negra. Great presentation. Simply delicious! The black iconic color came from squid ink, a natural food coloring used in Spain for centuries. Toppings include prawn, octopus, and squid. Good texture with a decent seafood taste. The portion was big enough for 4 adults to share. It's a satisfying Spanish dish. Be mindful that it comes with a hefty price tag! The Jamón Wrapped Dates was surprisingly good! The sweetness from the glaze, paired up very well with the Serrano ham flavor. Way better than a lot of bacon-wrapped to-go appetizers I had before. It is certainly one of the most satisfying tapas dishes you can imagine! Seared Foie Gras was also pretty nice. So rich, so smooth, even after the good searing. With truffle spread in the middle and crispy toasted brioche at the bottom, it's absolutely fabulous. It is expensive given its size. However, consider the texture and the satisfaction level it brings you, absolutely worth it. A hot tapas dish beautifully made. Calamari Frito was kinda... okay-ish... Should have skipped it. The 10oz Angus Ribeye looked good and was nicely grilled with a good charcoal aroma. But too bad the steak quality was only so-so. It's a bit chewy. Honestly, you can skip these two dishes on your next visit. Double-shot the foie gras instead, as an example, LOL. Drinks from the bar were so-so. We ordered a Lychee Sangria and a Tropical Sangria.... meh. I would suggest ordering something else. Just a regular beer or wine would be a good choice here. A little bummer. All in all, it's a nice restaurant that comes with a good package of cool vibes, great food, and good service. You got to be selective though. It was an expensive dinner. Worth it or not? My answer is YES, as long as you pick and choose the good ones from the average ones. Recommended, particularly for celebrations.

Paella de Tapagría (shrimp, chorizo, chicken, squid and clams)

I was really craving for Paella yesterday and almost forgot about this Spanish restaurant in Markham. My all time fav spanish restaurant is Patria downtown but it appears to be temporarily closed so decided to give Tapagria another try since it has been a few years since we last came here. Our experience last night was really good and it might have something to do with the fact that we went all out. We were celebrating a special occasion so we didn't hold back in ordering. For 3 of us, we probably did ordered too much especially the Paella which was enough for 6 people. I think you can guess what we'll be eating tonight! We also got a few tapas and we really liked the beef tartare and the mushroom croquettes. The croquettes are definitely a must try item! We also got the Kale Winter Salad, Brussel Sprouts and grilled Seabass which were also nicely done. At this point we were so stuffed! We still finished off with Churros for dessert which were only okay. Overall, we had a great time and we'll definitely be back.

Pulpo a la Gallega ($24): octopus done right!

=== 1. VERDICT/VALUE 3 to 3.5 stars; the service was good, most of the food was decent, but high prices and loud music everywhere make Tapagria hard to choose when wanting to chat with friends! === 2. FOOD Pulpo a la Gallega ($24) Could octopus be good? Absolutely! The portion size is a little small for the price, but there's been shrinkflation everywhere since the pandemic... Baked Beef Empanadas ($10) They are alright but you only get two for this price, so savour every bite :) Cauliflower & Salsa Española ($14) Not sure if this was any more reasonably priced, but it is good! Paprika Garlic Shrimp ($28) You get 8 or 9 jumbo shrimp in this dish and the taste might make the price of admission worth it... Paella de Tapagria ($64) We were really looking forward to the paella having enjoy a lot of it when we were in Barcelona. It's big enough to share between 5-6 people, and the squid on it was good, but the the rice was a combination of undercooked and soggy. Perhaps it was because we were one of the last customers of the night? I am not sure, but was totally not worth it, especially for the significant price. === 3. SERVICE Service was good upon entry and exit; and it was alright throughout the service. === 4. ENVIRONMENT It's modern with high ceilings and open and the open kitchen offers a great view. There are high tables and booths and low tables, able to accommodate small and large groups. Those with wheelchairs and baby strollers will find enough space. If you're looking for a place with loud music in all areas of the restaurant (I walked to all of the tables), Tapagria is the place for you. If you're looking for a place to chat with friends, this is definitely not the place to go.

September 3, 2023 - The restaurant is aesthetically pleasing, beautiful and has lots of space. Nice place for groups or dates. The service is very good and servers are attentive. I don't think there wasn't one dish that we didn't like. This is definitely my favourite tapas restaurant.

Our favourites were the oxtail pintxo, bravas, wagyu, churros, and flan--each of these really stood out and delivered on flavour. That said, I was especially excited for the paella, and it unfortunately fell short. I've had better paella from a food truck, and for much cheaper. Between the chicken and striploin, we preferred the chicken as it had a more cohesive flavour. The striploin was cooked closer to rare when we asked for medium rare, making it tough to eat, and the rice itself was quite bland. On a positive note, the service was lovely--attentive, warm, and accommodating throughout the night. Our server checked in often without being intrusive and made the experience feel polished and welcoming. Overall, while the ambience and service made for a great evening, the food didn't quite justify the price for me. Not sure I'd return, but still a nice spot if you're looking for a good atmosphere.

The interior of this restaurant is very small, with limited seating. I'd say patio seating is the best. We put our names in and were told it would be 30-40 minutes, so went up the road for a drink...as our drinks came out, the table became ready, in only about 20 minutes, so we had to drink quick and head back. We got back and a server took our drink order, they took a bit to bring them out and then we placed our order. We ordered a chicken Paella to share. The menu did note paella would take 45 minutes to cook, so we also got a few appetizers, ceviche, guacamole and Patatas bravas. After about 2 minutes, we had to flag down the water again and check the apps were coming g our first, and not everything at once...he went to check and then began bringing them out. The wait was long, but they were all good. As they began taking away appetizer plates they brought a hot plate for the paella and a bowl "for the shells"...at this point I reminded him we got the chicken paella, he agreed and took it away, it was then about 45 minutes later (1.5 hours total) that he finally brought them out chicken paella out, acknowledging the long wait and informing us he accidentally put the original order in for for seafood paella. Nothing the long wait and the Erie, he told us the paella would be computed and profusely apologized for his error and the long wait. We appreciated his honesty and making things right by not charging us for the main dish after such a long wait. The paella ended up being very good and was way more than the (4) of us could eat. Overall, the food was good, service could use some work on their communication, but they did right by us. I'd try it again if ever in the area!

I've stopped by this shop on multiple occasions, but waited until I tried their paella to post a review. Their paella menu consists of seafood, meat, mixed, veggie, or squid ink options and requires a 2h notice beforehand. I had the Valenciana (meat) which is advertised to feed 2-3 people. The price is affordable for paella, but lacked some of the signature smokey flavour that comes with the dish often served fresh. The rice was on the al dente side and more salty than I would have liked. However, the cakes were superb: the dulce de leches cake was heavenly - soft and pillowy, but soaked in sweet milk, and the crema catalana cake, I was told, is a specialty in Spain which was rich and dense. In the past I've picked up frozen tamales to steam at home - quite a good size for the price, just wish the ratio of filling was higher. Their frozen churros are a favourite to heat up at home as well, paired with cinnamon sugar. Their empanadas were yummy, although I wish they were a little bigger. Nonetheless, if you wish to try some Spanish staples or feel transported to a little grocer in Spain filled with cheese, charcuterie, and canned goods, drop on by and check them out!

At La Paella, the plato de jamon Iberico ($42)…read moreis cut thicker than usual, making it meatier and chewier than the delicate, thinner versions I've had before. The upside is you really taste the sweet pork. The downside? It's paired with black truffle chips that completely overpower it. Do yourself a favour: eat the ham first, then the chips to wash down your cerveza. Otherwise, you're wasting the ham. The croquetas ($18 for six) change with the season. Ours were studded with bits of ham, finely diced into a creamy, almost mashed potato-like filling. The crisp exterior against the soft interior made for a great bite. I'm glad the server suggested ordering sourdough ($5) alongside the gambas al ajillo ($29), because the garlicky olive oil and sherry sauce was excellent. Specks of guindilla chilies add a subtle but noticeable kick. If I weren't trying to save room for the main, I would have devoured an entire thick slice of that crusty bread. You'll need at least two people to share a paella but a larger table is even better so you can try a couple of versions. Do not miss the paella de langosta ($100 for two-person portion). It's a simple but effective combination of lobster tail, prawns, and scallops, all cooked well despite the risk of overcooking such large pieces. The saffron rice is infused with an aromatic seafood stock and dotted with broad beans and peas for colour. It could be a touch drier - I prefer when the bottom forms a crispy crust - but if you enjoy a creamier, risotto-like consistency, this will suit you. Only while writing this did I realize you can request it done socarrat (the traditional burnt crust), which I'd request next time. As for meat options, the paella matadero ($84 for two-person portion) is not for the faint of heart. You really really need to love pork - chorizo, pork belly, and ribs make it rich, salty, and quite heavy. Without much sauce, the ribs can lean a bit gamey. As a table, we agreed we should've gone with the traditional chicken-based Valenciana instead, as this was simply too much. By the time 8:30pm rolled around the cheesecake was sold out, but who cares as their churros were fantastic! Freshly fried with a light crispy exterior and a soft moist centre, they were coated in cinnamon sugar and served with a chocolate sauce that wasn't overly sweet. Easily one of the best churro orders I've had.

Walked in on a Sunday with no reso for 2. No wait…read more I'd say it's something like a 4.3 realistically. Would come back. Food: Paella: ordered the crispy pork belly and rib paella. Was honestly really good. Looking at all the other reviews here it seems like a mixed bag. But this one was great. Maybe the others aren't always good? The paella is made to order and is cooked in front of you though so maybe they don't have their QA locked in. Our experience was great. Super flavorful. Only thing is that there wasn't really any socarrat (which is the best part!). Purists will say this is required for a paella to be good but I enjoyed myself anyway. Gambas: incredible. I could come back here for just this. The sauce was unreal and so flavorful. No notes. Bread: we got up sold on the bread. Went great wiping up the gambas sauce but the bread itself wasn't that great as far as bread goes. Service: Service was not bad. Pretty prompt and didn't wait long for anything. Ambiance: Pretty cute. Decor is colorful and very Spanish.

Food was so good I forgot to take more photos!…read more We visited LaVinia last week for dinner. We ordered the grilled chorizo and ham croquettes tapas. The ham croquettes were delicious and paired with an amazing garlic aioli. The grilled chorizo was also great but the garlic aioli muted the chorizo taste unfortunately. We also had the arugula and pear salad which was topped with Stilton cheese. We really enjoyed it. For our main course, we ordered the seafood paella which was amazing and everything was cooked perfectly. We also enjoyed the mango cheesecake and lemon sorbet for dessert. The restaurant is tightly packed, intimate, and has a great atmosphere for a date night dinner or dinner with friends. The waiters were attentive and very helpful when ordered. The chef also came around near the end of our dinner to ask how our meal was.

Food: (5 stars) Tapas: - Croquetas de Iberico: Iberico Croquettes with Basil Oil - $18.95 (5 stars): My favorite thing on the menu, so creamy and tasty. - Mejillones al Vapor: Fresh Mussells Steamed in Spanish Beer - $15.75 (5 stars) My very close second favorite thing on the menu: amazing taste of the sauce. - Croquetas de Cangrejo: Crab Croquettes with a Piquillo Pepper Aioli - $17.95 (4 stars) - They were good but not as good as other things on the menu. - Calamares a la Plancha: Grilled Calamari with Chilli oil - $16.75 (4.5 stars) IT is a tad spicy, but great flavour and texture. Would recommend it. - Carpaccio de Ternera: Veal Carpaccio with Manchego and Mushrooms - $19.75 (4.5 stars) Great flavour and overlapping of the flavours. - Cazuela de Espinacas - Baked Spinach with Goat Cheese - $17.75 (4.5 stars) Very tasty and great mixture of all the flavours. Mains: All the mains are very large, definitely for more than 1 person. - Paella Valenciana: Spanish Saffron Rice with Chorizo, Chicken and Seafood - $26.75 (5 stars) the best of the main meals, the chorizo was giving it a really nice kick. - Paella de Marisco: Spanish Saffron Rice with Shrimp, Calamari, Mussels, Scallops, Monkfish and Clams $29.75 (4.5 stars) - lots of seafood, it was good a tad too runny - Arroz Verde: Scallops, Asparagus, Porcini Mushrooms, Spinach and Pesto $32.75 (3.5 stars): it was good, but too many mixed flavours, would likely not order again. Ambiance: (5 stars) They have indoor and outdoor dining. Outdoor has a thick wooden fence around it, so you do not feel like you are sitting on the street. Service: (5 stars) Very friendly staff, very attentive.

We ordered the Sea Bream Ceviche and chips, quarter Octopus and Patatas Bravas. The highlight was the ceviche. The octopus was unfortunately a little overdone, which made it tough. I would absolutely not order the patatas bravas again. The potatoes were very dry and tasted as if they had been sitting out for some time. We also sat at the bar and had a few ordered of cocktails with the food. Be aware that the bar itself slopes down towards you. With that being said, my partner put her drink down on the sloped part and it fell all over both of us, with the bartender seeing it all unfold. He was nice in providing some extra napkins to dry ourselves off, but all he had to offer was "Yup that happens a lot" as opposed to maybe offering to remake the drink which was now 2/3 empty as a result. Was a little disappointed at that service in particular, especially when you're paying upwards of $18 for a small cocktail. The atmosphere was good, however. IF I were to give it another try, I'd probably just opt for drinks and skip the food, which was a little pricier for what you're getting portion-wise and quality.

The service was incredible with the staff helping with GF options and providing GF bread even! They also perfectly helped us pair drinks with our meal. The food itself was phenomenal. Everything was a hit. My favorites were the octopus, patatas, and the picanha. Definitely would recommend this place 10/10 experience
