Adelitas offers a decent selection of authentic Mexican dishes. The customer service was excellent and friendly. The chips and salsa was good to start off with while you wait for your food. The one negative things is that my soft shell taco was cold. The portion of food was amazing and a lot for the price you paid. The location of the restaurant is easy to get to and very inviting once you're inside. I will be back to try other dishes. read more

I recently visited Adelitas Mexican Restaurant in Cedar Rapids after hearing that they made their tortillas in-house. Sadly, when I inquired about this before ordering, the server looked at me as if I was asking something outlandish and nonchalantly remarked, "We've never done that - there isn't ANY restaurant around here that has the people to do that." This set the tone for an experience that was a mixed bag. Service: Service-wise, I was left wanting. Not only did the server's dismissive response about the tortillas disappoint me, but I also encountered another hiccup when it came to payment. After we had already paid with a debit card, we were informed that ANY sort of card used was subject to a 4% service fee. This felt like a hidden charge that should have been communicated upfront. Another minor issue was the lack of drink refills. My guest ordered a soda and was never offered a refill or asked if they needed anything else. I only ordered water for lunch and was disappointed to be offered a single refill when our food was initially brought by someone other than our server. My cup sat empty for over half an hour while we finished our meal. Food Quality: The food at Adelitas was reasonably tasty but nothing extraordinary. While their flavors were acceptable, their menu offerings of only shredded chicken and ground beef options as protein fillings fall drastically short of what I consider "industry standard." I'm not saying everyone has to have a barbacoa pit out back, but at least having a chicken breast or steak option would be nice. I will say, I did appreciate their lunch special, where you can get two choices that included tacos, chimichangas, burritos, etc., and a very well-made tamale (with your choice of sauces - and they allowed me to substitute in their queso sauce). Atmosphere: Adelitas scores well on cleanliness and location. The restaurant is well-located and offers a cozy, family-friendly environment that makes it a great spot for a quick meal. The interior is clean and spacious, with decor that is vibrant and reflective of the restaurant's Mexican theme, creating a lively and enjoyable dining experience. Outdoor seating is also available for those who prefer it. **Overall Experience:** While Adelitas Mexican Restaurant is a decent choice for a quick lunch on this side of town, my overall experience left much to be desired. With so many better options not only in Cedar Rapids but also in the surrounding neighborhoods, I personally won't be heading back to this particular restaurant anytime soon. I have visited this location a few times and the food is really good and authentic. The chips you get complementary are thick making me think they are made there and the salsa is not overly spicy. The staff are friendly and the place looks clean. They are practicing social distancing if that is important to you. I expect to be back again real soon to try multiple dishes. read more

I chose Aldelitas for dinner while visiting Cedar Rapids for business and when I walked in the oyster special caught my eye. I was quickly seated and perused the menu that listed the ceviche but not the oysters. I asked the waitress about it and she described it as raw oysters in the half shell with shrimp ceviche on top. She asked if I would like six or twelve. I ordered six, that was a mistake. They were fresh and delicious and nice sea and citrus flavor. PLEASE don't take these off the special! I sat awhile enjoying my Cucumber Jalapeno Margarita. As much as I wanted to order another six of the oyster ceviche I ordered a half order of the street tacos one carnitas, one steak and one pastor. I hadn't been to Adelitas in a long time but went yesterday for lunch. Positives- The waitress was very pleasant. The staff was quick to refill drinks. When my order was brought out incorrectly, the waitress had it fixed as soon as I said something. The not so positives- It didn't look super clean. The fries weren't fully cooked. The chicken in my taco wasn't drained, and it was so wet that I couldn't even pick up my taco to eat it. A staff member came out carrying a bunch of wrapped silverware to put in the silverware container and dropped a roll of silverware on the floor. She looked around to make sure no one was looking, saw that I was watching, and set it down on the counter and proceeded to put rest of the silverware in the container However, she then picked it up off the counter and put it in the basket with the rest of the silverware. So basically taking germs off the floor that people had walked on in dirty shoes and putting them on the other napkins that people would be using to wipe their hands and faces. They serve a full, traditional Mexican style menu, including tacos, burritos, enchiladas, etc. Everything is very good. They use a good marinade on their meats, which are used in various dishes. Portion sizes are generous. The chips and salsa are top notch. We chose this restaurant because we were in the mood for Mexican food and it was convenient. One menu was legible, one had scratches all over it to the point it was difficult to read. We decided to try the blueberry margarita along with a raspberry one. I thought they tasted "medicinal" but couldn't put my finger on it. They came with oranges on the rim which stained blue when squeezed and put in the glass revealing the dye used to color them. And for a Mexican restaurant, there was not a hint of "heat" in any of the food. Neither the complimentary salsa(which also required we add salt) nor the entree had any spice leaving me to use the store bought habanero sauce sitting on the table. (Now I know why it was nearly empty)(also had to send my plate back because they made it beef rather than chicken like I ordered) Later in the evening my lady began sweating and had extreme abdominal discomfort accompanied by explosive diarrhea. Warm chips and a good tomato salsa. I started my order with a michelada, which came in a huge glass with a salted rim. Unfortunately, they add shrimp to the michelada, so there was a very distinct shrimp flavor to the mix - I didn't enjoy that. I ordered the tacos champanegos, they come individually wrapped in foil. Thoroughly enjoyed the chicken/chorizo filling, especially after topping if off with their cheese spread! They have jalapeños torreados and excellent rice and beans. Overall, not bad. Went in with my daughter tonight and ordered a Carne Asada plate and a dos quesos enchilada plate, once we got home we realized that we didn't even receive my daughter's enchilada plate at all... so pissed they were closed before we got home, so we were unable to call and speak to them. New on the menus was pollo fun dodo with chorizo-- this was good, salsa was good. Our meals were not as good as I hoped. Retried beans lacked color so question of the were soaked and homemade. TVs with music is too much. Margarita was also a 3 of 5. We chose this over drive thru food in the area to support small entrepreneurs so we were still very pleased with the meal and the prices. Mexican is my absolute FAVORITE!! I really wanted to like this place but it was pretty disappointing. Tasted like everything came from an industrial sized can. Salsa was trash. I could do better opening a jar of Ortega. Red sauce on enchiladas was the same bland sauce from the salsa - school lunchroom comes to mind. New family in the area and have seen this location for a while now. It was our first time toda. My wife and I order huevos rancheros, a torta, and horchata. Huevos looked decent and chorizo looked a bit burnt. Tasted okay but would rate it a 6.5/10. Torta was subpar. I've had better tortas else where and had a bit more to the bite. Type of bread makes a difference for it too. The meat was cold and the bread was cold too. I would rate it 5.5/10. Lastly, the horchata was pretty decent. Only issue I would say is the glasses were slightly dirty. One glass had avacado inside it. 7/10 Overall visit is 6.5/10. I wish them nothing but the best but probably won't be back. read more

Oh, this was so good!!! I went just as they opened and was greeted by friendly staff. Seated with no issues and had chips and salsa right away. The salsa was fresh and vibrant. I ordered the tacos pastor and 2 tamales ala carte (cuz who don't like tamales) and the flavors were so good!! I travel all over the country and this place was better than restaurants I visited in Laredo, TX. This was the 2nd best Mexican restaurant I've eaten in the country. We ate here last night. We haven't been here for about 2 years but after dinner last night we won't let an absence like that occur again. The Mole Enchiladas are great. I like mine to be a bit sweeter so I sprinkled a little bit of sweet and low over them and that made all the difference, Greg (partner) had the Enchiladas Mexicanas . Adelitas had always been a favorite of mine but after tonight I'm beginning to wonder. Menu's were literally falling apart and the floors looked as if they had not been cleaned in days. We waited nearly 10 minutes before our server came to take our drink orders as we counted 4 - 5 "workers" standing around. The barrel margarita, that I have always loved, tasted like a cheap mix rather than the perfectly mixed and aged drink that I have enjoyed in the past. We ordered queso with our chips and salsa and it was barely warm and lacking in flavor of any kind. The salsa was also mostly bland except for the giant leaves of cilantro in it. At least the pastore burrito was as good as I had remembered and helped me bring this review up from a 1 star. I tried Adelitas for the first time tonight. I ordered a variety of enchiladas and my boyfriend had the street tacos. I have always heard good things but was still pleasantly surprised by the large portions and very affordable pricing. I definitely did not expect to have enough food to have dinner and leftovers for a couple of days--that's always a huge bonus for me! Everything we ate was delicious. We ordered through DoorDash, so it was delivery and I wasn't expecting it to be perfect, but it nearly was. We will definitely be dining in sometime when it is finally safe to do so. read more

My opinion of Adelitas has drastically done a 180 compared to when I first ate there a few years ago. My recent experience has Adelitas in my Mount Rushmore of terrible food and overall dining experience. Soda is a pretty hard thing to mess up, but they managed to find a way to do it. I've never seen coke so watered down in my life. The wait staff was rude and when I brought my drink to their attention and suggested their syrup was low, they said there is no way since all their soda uses the same syrup. Then when we got our food they brought out the most greasy taco salad I have ever seen, it was basically soup in a taco shell bowl . Everyone at our table looking at that disgusting mess was immediately put off and had their appetite ruined. Adelitas, please realize that your service is slipping. I had suggested this to friends and so we headed over on Friday night. Got there at 5:30 and we were ahead of the rush. Chips and salsa came right away. After 10 minutes I flagged down the owner?/manager and asked if someone was going to take a drink order for us. He went over to a service and pointed out our table and appeared to be laughing about it. Server came and got the drink order and brought them quickly. That was the last prompt and correct order we had. From the special orders not being correct; no tomatoes on the fajitas please, yet they came with plenty. To the 15 minutes it took to get another margarita after it was ordered. Come on, it was on the rocks. The service was terrible. Another couple who I know where there Friday as well and when I spoke to her on Sunday she said there service was terrible as well. read more

This place is popular...but the service super sucks. I haven't tried the food yet, but we waited forever for menus and our chips and water never got refilled. We got our food to go. When we got home, my husband's order was correct and mine was not what I ordered. We were also supposed to have queso which was not there. What I could eat of mine was good and so was my husband's. Just wish we didn't waste $12 for a meal I didn't get and it wasn't worth driving 40 minutes round trip, plus waiting again, to get fixed. read more
