I am absolutely shocked at the way the tall older waiter completely ignored us from the moment we walked into the door. The young shorter waiter was running around crazy busy, because he was the only one working. The young waiter told us to pick anywhere to sit. That is exactly what we did sit and wait. Finally we realized that's what where going to continue doing. We left went one block up the street. We were immediate seated and served. Besides the horrible hosting the restaurant was filthy. I think we dogged a bullet. I travel all the time for my job and when not working travel for pleasure. I will be sure to tell anyone I speak to about how horrible my experience was and how great the restaurant down the street is!!!!! read more

The Macajete was awesome. Carne asada was seasoned well and chicken breast had a good marinaded flavor. Not a huge fan of the cactus but it was not bad. The chorizo swimming at the bottom of this lovely bowl was probably my favorite thing. I sat at the bar which was deserted except for the bartender and some servers rolling silverware and chatting. It was not bad company but I was surprised how slow they were, but it was Wednesday night. Overall good experience and I didn't regret passing some other Mexican restaurants on the way here. While the food was good, and the wait-staff friendly and efficient, the restaurant was one of the dirtiest I've seen. Tables needed wiped off, old food was all over the menus--inside and out. The floor was dirty. When the floor was cleaned the chairs were not put up (as evidenced by the base of each leg being covered in rust). If the main seating area was like this, how clean was the food preparation area? I cannot recommend anyone eat here. read more

Adelitas is my new fave in the locally overly saturated Mexican restaurant market. It is part of a group of 3 area Mexican restaurants that serve almost the same food at each location. The food is well prepared, tasty and inexpensive. I only pick Adelitas over the other two locations because it is closer to where I live. I have eaten there often and have never had a badly prepared dish or bad service. Chips and salsa are always fresh unlike other restaurants that often serve stale chips and watery salsa. Rice and beans sides are among the best I've ever had. Meats are tender and not mushy or overcooked. All dishes are always served hot and quickly. And last of all there are the Margs. American-made versions of Margaritas are not very authentic. If you want a real one make it yourself at home or try the ones at Papa Juan's. However their version is the best in town as are the ones served at the other 2 locations; Villa's Patio and La Camilia. Adelitas is highly recommended. UPDATE: I no longer recommend Villa's Patio or the margs at Papa Juan's. However, I am still a frequent customer of Adelitias and have never had a bad meal or service. read more

I was out of town on business and was looking for a place with good authentic Mexican food. I found the service to be very good and the food to be okay at Adeltias. I had the Chimichanga which was good, but found in general that things were not very highly flavored. To me, the chips were cold and seem to have been done well in advance. We have been ordering Mexican every night on our road trip to and from Virginia and South Dakota and we were especially excited about this restaurant because the website said everything was scratch made daily and we had been getting really good food from every previous place that we visited that had this same cuisine. Unfortunately our chile rellenos were really bad. We got three of them and they were all greasy and had the strangest breading on the outside of them. We also didn't receive silverware with our takeout order so we had to use just plastic forks we got from our hotel. This was a problem because after the forks failed the chiles were even hard to take apart by hand. My husband got two beef burritos and he only ate one because of the grease and salt level (we are salt lovers). The beans and rice were edible and so was the chips and salsa. Thank God because that's pretty much all we ended up eating. We are not sure if we will even be up to getting Mexican food at a different location tonight after the experience of this food. :( Maybe try the other burritos they have to offer outside of the standard beef burrito and the other items, but do not order the chile rellenos. read more

Simply put this place is horrible even for Iowa standards of Mexican food. The margaritas were terrible, the salsa tasted like a bad jar of Tostitos Salsa, and the service was just O.K. Pretty basic Mexican food from this family run restaurant. Service was excellent but drinks were too sweet.

Still our favorite for good Mexican food. Service is always fast and when we were on a special diet they were wonderful helping us stay on plan. In fact we're going there for lunch today! Favorites are the fajitas, la revolution, and the street tacos. Never had a meal we didn't like. Oh, and the margaritas are killer! For a high octane punch go for the barrel margaritas. My husband and I stopped here while driving through back in July 2015. This review is quite late but the important part is that I still remember eating here. So far this is tied for my favorite Mexican restaurant I've gone to, and I wish I didn't have to drive to another state to eat here. The portions were well worth the cost. Was driving from Minnesota on the way to Missouri and my husband located this restaurant on Yelp. It is now one of my all time favorite Mexican restaurants. The stuffed pineapple with citrus shrimp with a bit of a bite was decadently delicious! It was an "Mmmmm" out loud kind of good. This was my first time to this restaurant and it was the worst Mexican restaurant I have been to and I have been to many bad Mexican restaurants over my years even in Mexico. When we came in no one greeted us, and while the sign said please wait to be seated we waited and five minutes later someone came and leaded us to a table which I refused to sit at because there was food on the floor and the sun was shining right in our eyes, they were ticked off because I wanted different table. I wanted a margarita as well did the rest of the group I asked the waitress if they had a menu for drinks and she told me no, " I don't think she could speak English " so we had to order blind, Margs turned out to be 13 dollars apiece, and my 6 year old nephew found a drink menu on the table next us after we ordered. We ordered food and the order was completely messed up because as I mentioned before I don't believe the waitress understood English, once we received our order straight, the food was mediocre at best, bland and distasteful, I have had more tasteful from Taco Bell. It's kind of sad that the best Mexican food comes from American restaurant not a Mexican. Point being we need to not let these illegals come here and rip us off, to sell the nonsubstantial food that they try to pass off as Mexican cuisine when it's not, Cedar Rapids has been subject to this for far too long, it's time to stand up and support the restaurants that serve Good Mexican Food that understand English as this is America. read more

The grilled items are amazing at this place. Last time I was there I had the mocajete which is a sampling of all the meats they offer and it was very tasty. They marinate thier meat and are not afraid to char the flavor into the various cuts they offer. Another interesting item they make is cactus which they use either as an entree or is a component of many dishes in the menu. If you go I recommend trying some as it is delicious. read more

I recently saw the KCRG best of list and was seriously disappointed to NOT see Adelitas on the menu. Very fresh authentic mexican food that goes beyond every other places tacos and enchiladas. I highly encourage people to try the dishes that have cactus in them! Hard to find anywhere else and DELICIOUS! The service is Great and we recommend Daniel, he goes above and beyond and the Salsa and Margaritas are the BEST I have found in Cedar Rapids! I am not from here originally and have tried almost every place in town to find our favorite. After trying Adelitas, I want to look no further because I find I am disappointed! Food here was great! Homemade shells! Pretty authentic Mexican food. This was our first time stopping as we were just passing through Cedar Rapids. Glad we stopped. I had the lunch special #10 2 pastor tacos and a carnitas tacos. All were fantastic but the flavor of the pork on the carnitas taco was amazing.
