I have had amazing cake shops in Los Angeles (sweet lady Jane, Porto's, even the tom cruise cake) but this place makes the most amazing, consistently delicious cakes. My top favorites: 1. Chocolate with chocolate mousse (it's insanely perfect and great for freezing small pieces and bringing it out to nibble. Also equally love chocolate with fresh strawberries but just doesn't last as long in the fridge. 2. Black Forest cake - decadent chocolate with fresh raspberries that cut the chocolate decadence with the perfect balance 3. Pineapple and coconut- anyone who loves this combo will LOVE this cake. My husband's favorite. 4. Red velvet - not overly sweet exactly how I love it. The other favors I've tried that were decent were carrot cake, pistachio raspberry, almond raspberry. Pistachio flavor is super subtle. Carrot cake was not as moist as other carrot cakes I've had and almond raspberry couldn't taste much almond. Service is great and always good communication. I reached out to Crimson cakes for a tasting and I was able to get a box of samples before making my decision. In the end I selected 3 mini cupcakes (strawberry pistachio, red velvet, and black and white), fruit tarts, and chocolate mousse baskets. The desserts not only tasted amazing but they looked incredible and were decorated to match my wedding colors. I also got a cutting cake which was black berry lime flavored. My husband and I love this cake and we still can't stop thinking about it. We will have to go back to get this cake for another special occasion. We knew we were not able to pick our flavors by ordering this way, but figured Little Cakes would send a representative sample, which I assume they did. I'm not sure which flavors were in our box because they weren't labeled. I wanted to know what we were eating, but I had to dig through many past reviews to identify most of them. The 6 flavors received in the 1/2-dozen box were: * Vanilla * Chocolate * Almond Champagne * German Chocolate * Something Marshmallow-Topped * Something Chocolate--Topped with Thin Vanilla Icing and Vanilla Buttercream All the cupcakes were of average size and were decorated nicely enough. Albeit the cake part on all the cakes were a bit dry. It was difficult to discern a specific flavor on a few, so I've come to the conclusion that garnishing must be their gift. Most of the 'vanilla' flavors, were indistinguishable in flavor from one another, except for the Almond Champagne, which had a cloying almond paste filling, and too much filling to cake ratio. Of particular concern was that the frosting on all seemed to be off in ratios of butter to shortening. I suspect there was an over abundance of shortening in all the cupcakes, which to me, is not palatable, nor is it delicious or anything resembling what a good cupcake should be. They miss the mark in my opinion. Due to the high prices and the fact that the frosting on all the cupcakes was cloying and poorly prepared with what I suspect was too much shortening, and not enough icing sugar, I would likely not buy cupcakes from Little Cakes Kitchen again.
