Where do I begin, my grandpa passed away on 02/29, and up to date 05/02 we have not been able to get a hold of a notarized cremation certificate requested by the Mexican consulate to provide us with the proper visa to travel with his ashes. Mind you this has been going on since February. All my family will be traveling for funeral services this upcoming weekend which Suzzette was aware of and yet, we are still waiting on Suzzette Bustamante to properly handle the situation. I was charged $80 on Friday 04/26/24 and told the certificate was already notarized and it would be sent through 2-day express mail and we still have not received it. Trying to get a hold of Suzzette Bustamante is close to impossible, delays in the reply of emails, and at this point I believe refuses to answer the phone. Every single person who answers the phone has a bad attitude and is unwilling to help. The answering service always says they'll forward a message and wait for a callback in 24 hours. All this company has done has extended the pain of losing a loved one and not being able to properly arrange funeral services. On top of creating a harder financial burden the already arranged funeral services in Mexico will most likely have to get delayed along with us paying additional fees for having to reschedule our flights. They picked up the body within two hours after we called. The two men who came explained to us everything that they were doing and was very polite. The direct cremation charges are reasonable. They provided the proper documents. 1 star off: One thing I do want others to know is that aDirectCremation is great if that is all you are looking for: cremation, hence the name. If you want anything more than that though, they are clueless. We had some questions about how to bring the ashes to another country, and the representative told us to ask someone else. If you want anything other than a direct cremation, such as a viewing, the incremental costs are much more than other funeral services. For example, a 30-minute viewing of the body is $500. I used this company to plan in advance for my father's cremation. I found this company while doing an online search for a cremation company. My father's health was deteriorating slowly, and luckily I had plenty of time to plan for him. I had been in charge of his affairs for several years prior to this. The online description of their services, told me they were not only a full service mortuary, but that they owned and operated their own crematories. I knew right then that I was at least looking in the right direction to obtain reasonable costs with a full service company, and not some fly-by-night operation. The online information was excellent. The online and email correspondence to follow could not have been easier or more convenient. I filled out a downloaded application and added my payment information. I indicated the type of services desired, and found their pricing list to be informative and straight forward. I opted to have a standard cremation, and to pick up the remains rather than have them mailed. I opted to utilize a standard container, and later purchased my own from Costco. It was an excellent choice for our needs. I was emailed a few corrections needed on the form, and easily scanned and emailed it back. Done! I had previously done little research, and was extremely surprised to find that they were priced at almost a third of what the Neptune Society was charging for similar services. I had my father's "house" in order 3-4 month's before he passed, and am so glad I did. When "that" moment came; Debbie was warm and reassuring. She worked with my father's assisted living agency (where he passed) to arrange a pickup. The driver was sooo nice. It was as if he was a member of our attending family. I complimented him and Debbie about his mannerisms and care. I later picked up my dad's remains, and met Debbie in person at their new Stockton office. She was warm and professional. My wife made the same observation, and she can be very judgmental. Ironically, we lost my father-in-law just this week, and his funeral and burial set their family back $9k using a pre-paid plot. Looking back, we could not have been happier with this service and the professionalism of this company. My mother in law wants to be cremated, and we will be planning business with them again, soon. They do not work with any mortuary other than their own in redwood city, if you found them through the DFSMEMORIALS.COM website and read that they "work" with locally owned funeral homes and cremation providers, they mean THEMSELVES. The body will be taken to the mortuary located at this business address and they are NOT helpful or compassionate AT ALL via phone, after a loved one has passed and so suddenly. Beware of corporations that will try to take advantage of you when you are vulnerable. These people were rude and awful to speak with, unhelpful, seriously rude and poor communicators. Look in your local area for direct cremations, they do them locally and for the same price, these people want you to think that they work in your area and with local people, they get the body from the local coroner's office or where the body is and take it to redwood city for cremation, so you have no chance to see the body (coroner's office will not allow you to see the body in some circumstances) and say good bye, if this is what you wish. A local mortuary or funeral in your area are more than likely willing to work with you. I highly recommend you look into this as a FIRST option. I wouldn't trust these people AT ALL, who knows if the remains ypu receive back are even the right ones. These people just want your money. There is a medical donation center you could donate the body to for free, I would do that over choosing this place, where you have no idea what ashes are coming back or what happened to your loved ones body. Corporations these days WILL take advantage. Beware! When a loved one dies, I hope it isn't the surviving spouse calling or someone who is deeply affected by the death, since this business is only about making money. You may get that fake compassionate voice when you talk about money and giving it to them, I did. There are a lot of places like this online. Please do your research! No one deserves to be treated so horribly after a sudden death/suicide or death period. I am going to pray that no one is taken advantage of by these people or hurt by the unbelievable harshness of their communication. Some food for thought for this business: When someone calls about cremation or as funeral, someone close has died. Thank you God for this experience. My father died and we had no interest in getting ripped off when we had him cremated (it was also his desire to get things done cheap). I chose aDirectCremation.com because it was the cheapest cremation service I could find. Many places will charge 2-3 times what I paid for the exact same service. Funeral homes and cremation services are required to list their prices, so you should know what you're getting into. Many places will also hard sell. aDirectCremation did not try to sell me garbage I didn't need. They were helpful in preparing the various required documents, answered email and phone messages quickly, and were exceptionally courteous and professional throughout the entire process. My father died on Friday night and the two men who picked up his body later that night from his home were exceptionally polite, efficient, professional and discreet. Mom and I picked up dad's ashes this morning. The facility was plain but nice inside. The gentleman who provided us with the ashes was exceptionally courteous, he knew what he was doing (gave us a quick rundown of some relevant paperwork, how to transfer ashes to another container if we wanted, etc), and there was nothing phony about him. This has got to be the MOST incompetent place of business I have ever dealt with. When a loved one dies.... The last thing you want to do, is have extra things to worry about. Well if you want to deal with people that don't know how to do their job? This is the right place!!! Where do I start? First of all ....the price we were first given was a lie. It kept increasing. We were given one price and so we went with this place. Then...they said, oh you didn't pay us the $250 "pick up" fee. Okayyyyy. We weren't told there was an extra fee but here you go. Weeks later, we assumed our loved one had been cremated...he wasn't. Then we were told, we owed a " storage fee".... Okayyyyy, here you go. We order the death certificates and asked for a two specific spellings on the death certificates. Weeks go by...no death certificates. Every time we call...we are told its IN THE MAIL . Meanwhile, my husband's brother dies and we receive HIS death certificate 2 weeks later. But still A direct Cremation cannot get it together and Mail our death certificate. They give new meaning to " snail mail". When we call and verify they have put the correct spelling on the death certificates as requested? They have not. They tell us, the correction will cost us $85. Correction? This request was in the original paperwork!!!! It was not a correction! It was YOUR goof, your mistake! We call again and again, week after week and speak with Nadine and Janae....neither of whom know what the hell is going on. Offering us excuse after excuse. FOUR months later we finally receive our death certificate with the incorrect name spelling. Yes, FOUR months later. This is absolutely unacceptable. How after 4 months and countless calls is this STILL wrong? What kind of business are they running? There is no excuse for this. We have enough grief right now, we do not need all of this extra trouble. When someone dies, the family needs the death certificates to take care of their personal affairs. The fact that we had to wait four months and it's still wrong is ludicrous . They need to get it together. When my mother entered hospice care I decided to plan ahead for her cremation. I looked at local brick&mortar mortuaries, found some good ones, from $3000 to $3500. My sister recommended I use her online cremation service. Wow, only $1800! So I did some more investigating and found aDirectCremation. Downloaded all their forms, filled them out, had a few phone calls with Ramon to get the paperwork right (no big deal). They didn't bill me until the day my mother died. Their service picked up the body within 3 hours of being called. Very fast. Nadine was kind enough to email the Certificate of Cremation ASAP as I was fighting a deadline to get a permit for ash scattering. All was done on time. Just picked up the ashes at their Redwood City facility for scattering tomorrow. Certified Death Certificated will be fed-x'ed to me. I cannot say enough good things about aDirectCremation's professional service, courtesy, helpfulness, friendliness, timeliness and not the least of all - the price. On 10/4, she had to gather her 2 children, husband, and brother, leave work in Nevada and make it to this family owned business by 430. Traffic in the bay area is atrocious. She didn't know. With traffic and such, she got there at 445pm. They would not give her his cremains! Would not even offer to provide them on Saturday morning before services. Customer service is horrid. I was going to make my own arrangements and pre-pay. After this? A funeral without her daddy's ashes??? Horrid! Do not choose these people. After you pay them, its downhill from there. read more
