Eggen & Lance Chapel have been absolutely fantastic to our family. We had a highly unusual situation that required international logistics to bring my brother home from Mexico. They specialize in coordinating bringing families to loved ones from CA to Mexico, when needed, but this was the reverse scenario, and was significantly more complicated. Jaime and Jessica bent over backwards for our family, and through all the red tape (and there was an enormous amount of red tape) and they were always extremely kind and thoughtful, and forthcoming on updates. Jessica even continued assisting us, while still out on leave, so that she could assist in translating the documents from Mexico. We can't thank you ladies enough!!! When doing price comparison's Eggen & Lance Chapel were very affordable, very accommodating, and their funeral chapel very pretty. I highly recommend them. Had it not have been for their hard work, my family member might still be stuck in Mexico, or forced to be bured there. I would have given this mortuary a 5 star rating except for one thing: We had repeatedly requested the black heavy duty plastic liner option for my mother's casket instead of the concrete U-shaped liner because it is environmentally friendly and better for the earth, which is what was very important to our mom. So we were quite surprised to see the concrete at the bottom of the hole. Not sure why this happened since it was in the contract we signed. read more

I cannot recommend Eggen & Lance highly enough! We used their services when my father unexpectedly took his own life a few weeks ago and they have been one of the bright spots throughout this whole horrible ordeal. My brother and I both live on the East Coast, and we were so anxious about choosing a mortuary sight unseen, but from the very first phone call Eggen & Lance put our worries to rest and just made the process as easy as possible. We called a few other mortuaries/funeral homes in the area, but when those places heard that I wanted to fly out and see my dad one last time before he was cremated, they mostly refused to accommodate this request or were rude about it. This was definitely not the case with Eggen & Lance - Jessica and Troy made sure I had the opportunity to say that one last goodbye without one complaint or additional fees despite the extra work it entailed for them (like cleaning and preparing the body for viewing). They were also so accommodating of all our other special requests and handled the complexities of the situation without any issue and without ever treating us like a nuisance (which is the sense we got from other places we called). Finally, I have to say the best part of working with Eggen & Lance was that they were incredibly kind without ever uttering any of the fake niceties that usually come when mourning a loved one. I never had to hear that they were "sorry for my loss" and no one ever looked at me with sad puppy dog eyes or spoke to me in that sad, mournful tone that has invaded most of my conversations lately. They were straightforward and professional while still being incredibly sensitive to the situation, and it was just amazingly refreshing. I am so grateful to Jessica, Troy, and the rest of the team at Eggen & Lance for everything they've done for my family over the last few weeks. Eggen & Lance has a staff of compassionate and knowledgeable people who really care about the work they do. Honestly, it makes me really upset with all the negative comments. I have an understanding of funerary law and the procedures that must take place. Which is exactly why I went to Eggen & Lance knowing that their service would not only be done with compassion but would be ethical. I know that some people may feel that some aspects of the process may seem insensitive but it's to make sure that our loved ones are treated with care and that everything is accounted for so that we can make sure that they are truly at rest. I was very surprised at how unsympathetic and insensitive the woman was who was handling our plans and paperwork. A family member had asked a question in regards to writing the obituary and the staff member answered that my family member could write it or she could "throw something together" for us. Really? Throw something together? We're not talking about a car ad. Her insensitive handling of things as though we were just opening a bank account did not go unnoticed. Maybe she's been in this business too long? I also found it in poor taste that they would give us, the family, the ashes of our loved one in an Eggen & Lance reusable, promotional tote. Who would want to reuse a tote with that kind of memory?? Maybe rethink how you handle things. Lastly, at a place where people are experiencing difficult times and the loss of loved ones, I thought it inappropriate to have papers out in the lobby asking people to give a Yelp review. Not only incompetent, but cruel: Worst morning in memory. I am struggling with recovery from having my lower spine rebuilt. When my best friend of 30 years died last Tuesday morning, the doctor informed me that his body would have to be moved to a mortuary immediately because Kaiser's morgue is full (thanks, Covid spreaders). He was moved, and the mortuary informed me that due to covid, they would not be able to cremate him for several weeks, and suggested that I might want to have this done elsewhere, out of our busy area. So I made arrangements, signed loads of forms, paid for the cremation, and asked the mortuary to send me an invoice. They could not find the papers I had signed, so they had to be redone. I again asked for an invoice. I was called to let me know they had the necessary paperwork; I AGAIN asked for an invoice; I also emailed a request for an invoice. Then they decided they needed additional paperwork. Again asked for an invoice. I really needed a morning where I did not have to get out of bed until I was ready; Friday was going to be it. Instead, I got a call at 8:30 from the cremation facility that they have been trying to pick up my friend's body since Monday, but the funeral home will not release his body because I have not yet paid the invoice which I STILL have not gotten! Not the way I like to wake up. So instead of a restful, healing morning, followed by a long, hot shower, I jumped up, got dressed, and decided I better pay them cash so they don't hold his body for another week, claiming they were waiting for a check to clear the bank . I went to the address for the mortuary, where they are apparently not located; a kind woman found their actual address, and I finally got there. Of course, the person in charge was not there, nor the idiot who forgot to send me an invoice FIVE or SIX times, so I dealt with the person who was there. I gave her the cash, and made her sign that this is paid in full, so they don't refuse to release him because they forgot some $2 charge. I insisted that she call the cremation facility to arrange for them to finally be allowed to transport him, 5 days later. I was on the verge of telling them to put the coffin in my truck, and I'd deliver the remains. I told her that this was not only incompetent, but cruel. Apologies do not help, although of course I never got an apology from the funeral director. This means that it will take an extra week to have his ashes back. I waited to post this review until I knew his body was safely out of their incompetent, cruel hands. In addition to missing the hell out of my dearest friend of 30 years, I feel like I am in some weird alternate reality filled with death certificates, mortuaries, crematories, weird people, and mountains of sorrow. read more

Because of Covid-19 we did everything pretty much through email and phone. Great service and more reasonably priced than Windsor mortuary.

I would not give any stars for this mortuary but I have to in order to post. The General Manager and staff are dishonest and do not run this establishment ethically or efficiently as well as have not displayed a sign of compassion throughout the entire process. My brother was murdered and this is not a place I would have selected based on the way the do business and my first interaction. Kathy called trying to aggressively to pressure and confuse my mom to sign her rights over to a non family member, an ex-girlfriend to be clear. I was designated by my mother as the first of kin; to handle my brothers services. Out of convenience and to accommodate the other party involved; because it would impact my brothers children, we chose this mortuary. Knowing our circumstances they were very condescending and difficult to work with. Although it turned out to be a nice ceremony we were rushed out the day of even before it was due to be over. And although they knew I lived in Southern California and was already financially drained they never told us it would take a few weeks to have brother cremated and if we wanted it done sooner we would have to pay for expedited services. They said they would contact me when my brother was ready to be picked up but nobody ever did. I reached out to them several times and was told I would be contacted. I received one call saying my brothers death certificate was ready for pick up but not his remains. When I called to pick up brother I was told he had been released to someone else. Christina who works there said it was an accident and the general manager said someone called me on 3 way and I gave them permission. However, I was never contacted nor did I give anyone permission now my brothers remains is missing. The GM was very unsympathetic and condescending. No apologies or remorse as I'm crying and upset. He said oh well and he would try to get my brother back. This is such a horrible experience. Pleas save your family the horrid experience of having to work with people who don't care about people. There are details I had to leave out but there are more ethical reasons and you should choose this mortuary. My father died in 2012 approximately 6 months after making all funeral arrangements with Eggen an Lance, Around 11:00 PM dad passed away at his home on a weekday night. Hospice was called and they were to notify the mortuary to take my father to the funeral home. No one answered or returned calls. We tried every back up number and even other funeral homes to find out what we should do. Long story short, my dad's body remained in his home for app. 10 hours after he died. It's sad that my father tried to make his impending death a little easier on all of us by taking care of his final arrangements and have this happen. I would NEVER recommend this mortuary to anyone! read more

Don't use their services. My grandfather passed and we went through them everything was fine until we found out the insurance wasn't covering everything. We worked out a payment plan everything was fine. Then my grandmother passed a month and a half after. We tried going through them again and were told they wouldn't take her until we paid all of my grandfathers and grandmothers expenses upfront. These people DONT CARE about people. Losing a parent is hard especially when its unexpected and I called several mortuaries to gets quotes on a funeral(clinton from the colonial house was VERY rude). Not only was Eggen and Lance the most reasonable but they were sooo helpful. Lisa made my mom and I so much more comfortable. My dad had an autopsy but we still wanted an open casket because family was coming from out of town that hadn't seen him in several years. I forget the embalmers name but he made my dad look like he was sleeping and not dead. I really appreciated how helpful and caring everyone was. read more

My family has used Eggen and Lance three times in the past 16yrs and had excellent service and care. We just lost my mom unexpectedly early October and chose to use them again. However, this time it was a nightmare. We were in and out in 15min. They did not offer us things that were offered in the past. It was extremely impersonal, like we were buying a car, not dealing with the death of my mother. We even got to sit there in silence while she added up the bill. Things did not go smoothly at all through out the course of this whole thing, there was no communication or explanation for anything. Then for whatever reason it took 18 Days for them to cremate her and get my mom back to us. The manager did try to compensate for the issues, with free wildflower packets for the service but he still had a care less kind of attitude. My wife passed away in August 2016. Eggen & Lance was very good on the intake process however, from there it went quickly downhill. First I waited for an extra two weeks for the their phone call saying my wife's remains were ready to be picked up. After two phone calls it turns out they were ready on-time but her remains were put in someone's draw who forgot to call us. Of course this was unexplainable. After the remains were delivered I noted that the certified death certificates were missing. Another two phone calls later those were finally delivered. My brother passed away just three weeks after my wife and his wife had a very similar experience with Eggen and Lance. In short, I don't know what happened to this old Santa Rosa business but I would definitely recommend looking elsewhere. read more
