This place is really a hidden gem, especially on a beautiful day in Pacifica. The chapel itself is charming, simple and was the perfect size to hold my Father in-law's service and memorial. Armando Santana made the process so simple every step of the way. He was straightforward about costs and did not try to upsell us on funeral services like other funeral homes tend to do. He was flexible with timing for setup and we never felt rushed on the day of the memorial. He allowed us the freedom to honor my father in-law in a way that he would have wanted. Armando is amazing! They totally screwed up the death certificate for my mother. I sat right there with them and spelled out her name and the information that they needed for the death certificate. They still sent it off with the incorrect spelling and the her parents' names were also wrong. When the death circus came back with the wrong information, we tried to get them to correct it and basically, they blew us off. They even tried to tell us that we could still take care of business with the incorrect names on there which our lawyer assured us was NOT true at all. We have been forced to go to the state to get the corrections forms we need that have to be attached to the worthless piece of paper Pacifica's Chapel by the Sea gave us. We submitted the forms that the state needed for the corrections in July and we have still not got the paperwork back from the state because they are so understaffed and backed up because of funeral homes like this worthless Pacifica's Chapel by the Sea. read more

In Feb 2024 we held my Dad's service at Chapel by the Sea; the service was beautiful, intimate, and my father honored as he deserved. We met with Armando Santana several months back in preparation for my Dad's service (he was on hospice care.) Armando demonstrated a level of professionalism coupled with years of experience, in guiding us through every step of the planning process, cost, and all aspects of the service ensuring we honored my Dad's life and military service. It gave me some peace knowing that when the time came we had an initial plan. When my Dad passed, I contacted Armando and from the time Chapel by the Sea came to pick up my Dad (the men were very respectful) to the actual memorial, things went pretty smoothly. Armando drove a lot of the behind the scenes details and administrative work that I was in no place to even consider or knew to happen. He was available for any questions and concerns and offered help with whatever detail we needed. The USN Military and gun salute arranged by Armando were executed flawlessly, paying tribute to my Dad's service with the dignity and respect he deserved. It was a deeply moving experience that provided comfort and closure to our family and friends. The atmosphere of the funeral home provided a comforting and peaceful space for the celebration of my dad's life. This review is long overdue. I unexpectedly lost my husband in March and it was the hardest thing in my life that I have ever had to go through. I don't know that I could have gotten through any of the planning if it wasn't for Armando Santana. My family used Chapel By the Sea for my mother's celebration of life service. The director, Armando Santana, was very helpful in making it happen for us. He met with us and made sure that all bases were covered. He was always available by phone or email. Upon our request, he recommended a pastor to help with the service. He even had vendors that helped us with the programs and prayer cards. He also had several flower vendors. On the day of the service, he set up all the photos, flowers, programs, cards, etc. He greeted people and provided direction as they entered. Armando helped us clean up and carry all the flowers, photos and memorabilia into the cars at the end. Chapel By the Sea made the service memorable for our family and friends. read more

Called for information about services offered here. As this is the 1st time I'm planning a funeral I don't know where to start. I was the only one planning my parent funeral. The customer service here is horrible. Woman I'm (assuming owner) was deeply rude and had attitude! This is someone I would not even trust my family or anyone with!! My parent literally died that day and I was under a lot of stress and grieve. How can you answer and give attitude. 1st thing is answer the phone "say the name of your chapel" and ask what services you need or what can help you with." I was at a lost for words. If I could give this place a minus star, I certainly would. They are now part of Duggans apparently and this may be where the trouble began. The GM Tom was the most rude pompous unemphatic excuse for a man that I have ever encountered. He was so busy strutting around trying to show who was in charge that my 80 year old Aunt was left to stand outside for the entire service! I have had many family services here and have been to many, many services here over the years, had I gone in prior to making these arrangements I never would have come here. It was unkempt, dusty, dead plants as their display. If you look at the picture on the website, that same orchid was still there only, it was dead. It was awful and when I asked that it be cleaned I was met with attitude every step of the way. People please, our quaint spot to say goodbye to our loved ones is gone and has gone corporate and it's all about money. Take the trip over the hill to Millbrae or South City. When my son died unexpectedly, we traveled to the area to try to sort out the details. We chose Chapel by the Sea because it was a local Pacifica business, where he had lived. We regretted our decision almost immediately, and probably should have started over with another funeral home. We were charged extra to view his body, an extra fee was charged to "expedite" his cremation, and fees up front for the death certificates. I had to call three or four times to insist that the coroner had already told me they were releasing his body and to schedule a time to view him. I then had to call repeatedly to let them know that the death certificate was ready. DO NOT GO HERE! A death of a loved one is difficult enough, but the staff here are completely inept and worse, they are not respectful. read more

after the sudden passing of our father, we visited several funeral homes and decided to go with chapel by the sea for a few reasons: -this is a smaller funeral home with only one chapel which means you'll have the entire facility to yourself. the place has lots of parking and enough space to host your family and friends comfortably in the time of mourning. -the staff (bebe and her husband) were a fresh breath of air and wonderful to work with. they were very sincere given the circumstances , communicated very well of all the costs associated w/ each plan we considered and described the process of a funeral/memorial clearly. in addition, we had several last minutes changes and they accommodated them very well and were very understanding. -lastly, the cost was far less than other places w/out have a an impact on the quality of the experience and service. their facility is well kept, they keep things very professional and comfortable. to gauge cost savings, i would say we were seeing roughly a 20%-30% savings over the other places we considered. read more
