My friends were out of town. I dog sat. They had an appointment after they left town. I took their dog Russell in for a checkup. He had developed "hot spots!". I can't tell you how much I appreciate Doctor Brand!! She is one of only two vets in both Santa Barbara and Ventura County that I trust with my birds (the other being Dr. Sellers, also in SB). Dr. Brand has a lot of experience with birds and when I have an issue or species she isn't as familiar with, she's completely up front with me. But the key is, she's always willing and interested to learn!! So if I bring her something new, she'll let me know what she knows or doesn't know, and then she'll research to try to find the best solution for my animal! That is invaluable to me. Her staff is friendly and professional, and her new office is clean clean and bright. A little challenging to get into the parking lot if it's your first time, since it's on a busy street, but once you've been you'll see how to make it easier next time you visit. I think her prices are very fair, and so far it isn't a long wait to get in to see her. I've been coming to Dr. Brand for the past 3 offices she's worked at. I've had many vets over the years, but never have I had a vet as good (smart, knowledgeable, sensitive, keeps up to date with new info, which many vets don't, unfortunately) as Dr Brand. I know a decent amount myself, but am not a vet, and it's such a relief to find one who knows more than I do, and to be able to trust her direction. She's also willing to work with you, based on what you believe is best for your pet, and at the same time providing direction, based on her considerable knowledge. She's also the ONLY vet, out of 20 or so I've gone to, who takes a few minutes to first interact with your animal in a kind and sensitive way, getting to know them before diving in and treating them like an inanimate object to be examined and fixed. This seems like such an obvious and important thing to do, yet she's the first I've encountered who's done it. The vet tech I dealt with there was also very good. Didn't get her name. I'm so thankful to the person who recommended Dr Brand to me. He was a very dog-savvy guy so I trusted his recommendation, and wasn't disappointed. Coincidentally, another person I knew raved to me about this vet who worked out of Airport Animal Hospital, and it turned out it was Dr Brand, now at Adobe! It was hard to get an appointment within a decent time frame. When I showed up for my appointment, we were 11 min late (5 of the min were me trying to get my nervous dog out of the car right in front of their office doors) and the receptionist was immediately rude when I walked in. She told me she needs to check with the vet if my dog could still be seen since we were 15 min late (we weren't). She came back and said we would need to reschedule. When I asked why they don't have a grace period she did not have an answer and told me the only option was to reschedule for the following week. If you're looking for a place that actually cares about your pet and their health, this is not it. read more

About a year ago I was having a hard time finding a vet for my dog Molly because no where was accepting new clients. I first went to VCA Noah's Ark but was quoted $4000 for some dental work. I then was able to get in with Adobe and was quoted a high end of $1400. (VCA is corporate no hate to them but this was the more affordable option for my furry friend). I was treated very kindly as I was very overwhelmed with the thought of my dog hurting. Recently my dog needed another dental and during examination they found mammory tumors which aren't anywhere near her teeth obviously so I really appreciate them being so thorough and having my pups best interest at heart. Do not take your pet here! Had an extremely unpleasant and rushed experience with Dr. Brand, I was appalled by the lack of care in the visit nor did she touch or examine my dog properly, or seem to know what she was talking about. When I called back a few weeks later and complained I was told by the receptionist I should find another vet and they will fax the paperwork, and then she hung up on me. I had been in the middle of explaining I needed the Dr to call me because my Dog was pain and needed a prescription, but because I had complained about my bad experience she chose to hang up on me and not help me or me dog. I am happy with Adobe who have seen my girl for minor issues and more recently for a bone stuck on her jaw. That was an emergency situation they were able to accommodate right away which I appreciated so much. They're sensitive to the fact that she is skittish and I feel they respect her tolerance while still giving her great care. I have also been in there with my mom and her little dog and Dr. said no need for some tests tech said might be needed. This vet is amazing! I moved up to SB back in October with my two cats (Wally and Eva) and was very worried about all the vets up here not taking new patients. Wally and Eva were due for their check-up and I was able to get into adobe in about a week. All of the staff are so friendly and the vet techs and Dr. Larson we're amazing. Wally is not the nicest in these situations and everyone was so kind about him. One of the techs made me feel so much better by saying she wouldn't want him to be anyone he isn't. It also never feels like they're trying to sell you unnecessary tests, meds or food. I had a cat in distress this morning and I went to a emergency veterinary clinic first, after talking with the veterinarian, she quoted me an astronomical price. So I left there totally deflated thought my cat was gonna have to be put down. And I spoke with a friend of mine who recommended Adobe pet Hospital! I contacted them they were amazing they were so helpful and reassuring and was able to sneak me in to an appointment at 1:30 today! Dr. Larson DVM was amazing! So kind so gentle with my animal who is so frightened including myself... On this outcome. Well she did a physical exam and was so gentle with him... And gave me the option Of coming back again to have blood work, because of the financial burden it would cost. I left there after paying an eighth of what I was quoted originally! We were referred by the turtle conservatory, who warned us in advance that their prior vet at this location had retired but they thought it would be a good place for us to contact and ask about a referral for treatment for a turtle. As soon as I said that we were referred by the turtle conservatory the woman who answered the phone was SHOCKINGLY RUDE, very sharply barking "We don't see turtles. Sorry," and the "sorry," was by no means at all sincere. Dr. Haskell and his Team were so kind as to accept my poor sick Rescue Tortoise into their practice emergently when she developed what we recognized was some sort of an extremely serious condition. One which required a DVM highly experienced with herps, and despite the fact that their practice was officially closed. After many visits and attempts at resolution, it was clear that my darling scaly baby might not recover. Multiple treatment options were discussed/tried; it was quite clear that the doctor "knew his stuff" and could cite literature from memory. Most sadly, euthanasia commenced, with Dr. Haskell kindly staying with us for the duration of this process (very long in reptiles). He and his staff were exceptionally kind throughout a long, upsetting process for everyone, and compassionately gave our poor girl wonderful pain control despite the fact that she could not express her pain in the usual ways. Thank you to a dedicated and exemplary Veterinarian and staff. The clean, new, ultramodern facility and PARKING were vastly appreciated, too. read more

I started taking my French bulldog, Trappy, here a few months ago. He came home from daycare looking like he was Ill, and a few days later was having trouble breathing from the congestion. I panicked and was freaking out because I couldn't find a vet that had openings in months to come - until I called adobe. They took him the very next day right at my lunch time (convenient). The vet and techs were super nice and he was totally relaxed. They don't try to shove treatments down your throat or scare you. He is having allergy issues (as always) and they gave him an allergy shot, flea meds (pill), and gland expression. He was diagnosed with kennel cough and we got him some antibiotics. The entire visit was less than 400$. I was so happy and ended up taking my mom's elderly cat here when she passed away, for a wellness exam. They are so understanding and I honestly can't say enough good things about the staff and their ethics. I wish I found them sooner. Our two Mini Australian Shepherd littermates were due for their six year check up and shots mid-summer, so we called the only vet they had ever known to make an appointment. We discovered she had moved to Adobe, so we made a routine appointment for both dogs to see her. When we arrived 15 minutes early as instructed, we called the receptionist from the parking lot per Covid to check in. We were told someone would bring out a clipboard with a form to fill out. Twenty minutes later I called again to ask if they would like me to come in and get the clipboard. I was told to forget the clipboard and meet them at the door. After an inaccurate weigh in, we were placed in an exam room. It was good to see Dr. Brand, but the staff just seemed so self-absorbed. When we were charged, I had to remind them of a med we were supposed to receive. Overall, not a great experience. Two weeks later, one of our dogs woke up vomiting and lethargic. My husband called Adobe, when she started vomiting blood. He was told that Dr. Brand was on vacation, they had no openings to see our dog and that blood in her vomit wasn't necessarily a cause for concern. He was offered an emergency pet hospital contact in case she didn't improve. Both Santa Barbara emergency locations were booked solid. In desperation, we called our former veterinary practice and they were able to fit our dog in. Shortly after arriving, our dog began having bloody diarrhea. Over three hours, the new vet there did tests, x-rays and administered an IV to our severely dehydrated dog. He diagnosed AHDS (Acute Hemorrhagic Diarrhea Syndrome). The staff called ahead and got us in to CARE downtown. The vet there said she was in hypovolemic shock and would have died without intervention. This experience led us to choose quality care and compassionate professionals for our dear dogs. We will not return to Adobe. read more

Over the past 30+ years, I have encountered a few local vets who I would not recommend. Then, I finally settled on a vet (friend of a friend) who ended up moving out of area due to a family issue. Before moving, she recommended transferring my dog and cat's care to Dr. Gregg Haskell. In making the recommendation she told me that Dr. Haskell is the "go to guy" that a number of local vets (including herself) contact when they have technical questions. After trying him based on her recommendation, I was thrilled. He is the best Vet that I have ever encountered. My pets have now been under Dr. Haskell's care for well over fifteen years. I love his technical expertise as well as his caring nature. He has high ethical standards and a very clean and well run practice. I highly recommend him. read more

Terrible vet. I've never had a vet treat my animal this way. First we were interrupted during our exam by nurses coming in for signatures. Very unprofessional. They had no idea how to handle a cat and treated him like he would attack at any minute. Grabbed him in very tight and uncomfortable grips and toppled him over I asked for them to stop (because he was screaming, and he never does) and they said there was no other way because they can tell he is going to be aggressive.... he's never scratched or bitten anyone. He's the nicest cat. A simple nudge or asking me to lay him down would have worked much better and he wouldn't have been so stressed. He loves visiting the vet, that should tell you something. This was AN ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE. They also kept complaining how his hair was getting in their mouth, over and over. I'm sorry, you do know you work in a vet correct? Anyway, never seen a doctor avoid opinions on medication as much as here. Giving me no options on trying something new. Came up with answers that did not make any sense, obviously not even paying attention to the question. Mostly disgusted with the disgraceful way they treated us. I'm appalled this place is rated this high. The doctor had an attitude of I know best, and that really did not sit well with me. I've been to vets all over CA, never seen a doctor be so indifferent. Always had other doctors be very loving and understanding. In conclusion.. Worst vet ever. Not looking for this vet to reply and say it was a miss understanding etc. It wasn't... it was inhumane, rude and uninformative. Waste of time. read more

I have been with Adobe since 2012 when w emoved here. The staff is kind and empathic. Its a tough job being a mom to fur babies but they always help me understand our options and make the best choices for our pets. Dr Gibbs and Dr Haskell are knowledgeable and I never feel Like I'm being sold to. When our beloved yellow lab was dying of cancer they stayed late to help us thru our grief and compassionately helped us help him to a better place. We never felt rushed. Dr. Haskell performed surgery to remove two of my adult Queensland heeler's teeth, and that was years ago. He did a wonderful job and my dog recovered in record time. Recently, we had a bad few hours here at my house, when our other dog, a 13-year-old Red heeler/Chow chow mix, who we knew wasn't going to be with us for much longer, suddenly got worse. We had a house call vet all lined up, just in case. But-----when we called----we discovered this vet was out of town for a week! Panic time. We didn't want our dog to suffer. She was calm and not showing any signs of distress or pain, but she had had a small fit earlier in the morning. It was time . . . We couldn't even find another house call vet. We decided we would have to do what we had dreaded doing, which was to take our ailing dog to a vet clinic. How awful to put her through that, but what choice did we have? We called all around, got a bunch of "Are you presently a client?" and "Has your dog been here before?" We couldn't even get an appointment. It was a nightmare. I thought of Dr. Haskell and called him. His receptionist, "Isa," was wonderfully kind and sweet. She told us to bring our dog in at 5PM. We were SO RELIEVED. But that was at 10AM. Our dog, one of the best dogs in The Universe, devoted and awesome right up until the very end, didn't last past 11AM. She wandered the house for a bit. I hugged her and hugged her and my heart nearly stopped, when suddenly I felt how cold she was. She laid herself down on the oak floor, back to the wall . . .and she was gone. We buried her out under the plum tree. Thank you Dr. Haskell, for being such a fine vet and for caring about animals. read more

Dr. Haskell is the best vet! I don't live in SB anymore, but wish I did so I could keep him as my cat's vet. In fact, when I first moved away, my cat got deathly sick, and I considered driving the 3 hours to see Dr. H in person. I had tried every test at my local vet to see what was causing his vomiting and lethargy, but the local vet just wasn't as knowledgeable, and thus I just didn't trust. I called Dr. H for advice, telling him the tests that were run, and my cat's symptoms, and if he had not advised me to force feed my cat after he hadn't eaten for 1.5 days (which my local vet did not advise me to do), he may have died. I owe his life to Dr. Haskell, who didn't get a cent from his time, but loves animals so much that he was willing to time the time to speak with me! Thank you so much!! read more

His prices are a little steep but he is incredibly nice and he has given us numerous options (read: money-saving ideas) to try out before going down the costly vet procedure route. Dog needs a $300 teeth cleaning? Try pinning him down (all wriggly 75 pounds of him) and brushing his teeth every night. She is not the owner of the animal she discusses in her review, and she did not pay for that animal's care at Adobe Pet Hospital (she was fully reimbursed for any veterinary bills she covered in the course of running errands). Prior to posting her review, Victoria O. threatened this business that she would retaliate against them on Yelp! if they did not violate applicable law and comply with her demands. I have screenshots of her discussing this with friends on social media. Ms. Ordin frequently engages in such behavior; however, since most businesses comply with whatever she wants, you won't see too many negative reviews by her. Adobe Pet Hospital is a fantastic business....as can be easily determined by all of the other reviews posted by normal people: their actual customers who posted to report about consumer experiences rather than as a misguided attempt to punish the business for failure to comply with an unreasonable request. I began to take my animals here a few years ago on the recommendation of my parents, who have been clients since 2006. Unfortunately my most recent visit was to have my 17 year old cat Oliver euthanized due to complications from several issues related to his advanced age. Having to say goodbye to a pet you have lived with for 17+ years is never easy, but the staff at Adobe Pet Hospital, and Dr. Haskell specifically, made the process as comfortable for me and my family as it could have been. I have always been happy with their service and professionalism. I believe their decision to not provide confidential information to Victoria O despite her threats to retaliate against them here on Yelp!
