I brought my pet rat to be seen as he had developed a small bump on his stomach seemingly overnight. The staff was very kind and provided a good experience for the most part, however they misdiagnosed my rat. I read online that bumps could be many things, one of which being a cyst that usually will go away on its on. I was hoping this was the case and that it was not a tumor, but when the vet checked him out she did not even bring up the possibility of it being a cyst, she very confidently said it was some sort of tumor. She said they would need to do surgery to remove it and get it tested, to see if it was benign or cancerous. I asked about a biopsy instead, and she said I might as well just get it removed because a biopsy would cost around the same amount. I was devastated, and after a few days decided I did not want to put my sweet boy through a surgery at his age. To my surprise, within a week the bump was gone and has not come back, meaning it was in fact a cyst and not a tumor. I normally would not leave a critical review, but I feel the need to warn other rat parents about this, as surgery on rats is very risky, and this vet told me that it was basically the only option when it was completely unnecessary. I am hoping this is a learning experience to consider all diagnoses for patients before jumping straight into surgery. read more

Thanks to all the wonderful staff! Very good with rats. I recently had to put my rat down, he was very ill and beyond help. They suggested a battery of tests, and as I was about to do that, I realized it was his time. They didn't make me feel bad about my decision and recommended "pawsitive" who came to my house to put him to sleep. Very caring, non pressuring staff, allowed me to make my decision without guilt. Gave me a bunch of tissues as I was crying. Very caring and empathetic towards both rat and owner. Highly recommend their services, have used them for 6 years. read more

I had the worst experience here. George has the most awful customer service and he is always angry looking. He has no compassion and could not have cared if my cat died, which she did. Barbara wasn't any better. She was rude and always had a sarcastic remark for me. The environment there was stressful for my cat and I. The two most compassionate people there were Alex and Keeley, who were exceptional and kind to my cat and I. They truly cared about my cat's livelihood. I would never give Foothill a dime again. New owners. Updated review! The owner pressured me to do lots of detailed and expensive tests and bring my cat in for repeated appointments which ended up costing me $3000 and leaving my cat traumatized from all of the testing. All of this led to me being told that my cat didn't actually need any interventions. I was repeatedly pressured to do home subcutaneous fluid treatments on a cat that had high normal renal panel, (not in renal failure and unlikely to appreciate being jabbed with a needle on a regular basis ) and I was charged for almost $100 worth of supplements for my cat without being asked if I wanted to buy them. My cat would not take them and I ended up having to throw them away. One of the employees called and spoke very fast and broken English giving me information that was a at least partially untrue. He became very rude and defensive when I asked him to slow down and clarify or questioned the continent of his information. There is another vet I spoke with on the phone who was a hired employee and very reasonable and pleasant but she is not the owner or the boss. When I asked to work exclusively with her I was told this would not be possible because the doctors all work in tandem with each other. I do not remember any of their names. I am never allowed to enter the building but have to hand my pad off to them outside. The whole situation was extremely stressful on both of us and I do not plan to bring my cat back to this veterinary practice. read more

I've been brining animals on and off to this hospital for several years now. They're one of the few places that treats guinea pigs in town and I've been so grateful for that. In the past my experiences were positive and the prices were very reasonable. As others have mentioned I've encountered the new doctor's preferences towards natural. I am all for treating our animals with exceptional care and providing them with the best we can. However, this practice needs to understand that its clients financial means vary greatly. Not all of their clients can afford to feed their animals organic goat's milk or organic produce on a daily basis. And frankly, this may not be how the client prefers to care for their animals and that is their choice alone. I found the feedback to how I cared for my animals to be condescending. I personally will not frequent this hospital again and advise you to do your research to see if your needs/values align with the current vet. read more

When no one else would save the day Foothill veterinary swooped in to the rescue. My sweet cat Cleo was really struggling to urinate and after quite a bit of struggle we found this god send. When dropping her off I could understand why this clinic had poor reviews, the assistant was direct with her opinions but I could see her point of view. After about an hour the vet gave us a call and informed us that because of her size ( she's a very small cat) that they needed to run more complex tests we quickly agreed. And I am SOOO glad we did, they where able to catch that she had crystals in her bladder something I know my normal vet would have missed if I had fallowed her protocol. As someone who has herself really struggled with UTIs I am so unbelievably great full that they went above and beyond for my cat and made sure it wasn't just a uti. They have also given me affordable treatment options before doing anything more serious. I am switching all of my pets to this clinic because I trust that they will do everything they can for my pets. read more

Beware ! I brought my cat in for acupuncture to see if it would help increase his appetite. I was able to hold him calmly during the session. However I was not allowed to be with him for his exam and later with two technicians. It was during that time that my cat let out two horrific screams which I was told was due to a temperature check. When I brought my cat home he was limping, in pain and cried when I picked him up. At night he was trembling. Not only did the acupuncture not help but I had no prior knowledge of the cost of the other 7 treatments which seemed excessive. This was the most awful and traumatic experience resulting in having to go to another vet for pain medication. Please protect your pet from this clinic. They never bothered to reply to my call or email. read more

Our house cat started being a patient at Foothill Pet Hospital years ago. We made an appointment for her recently as it had been a few years since her last checkup. We were surprised to learn mid-visit that the previous practice had been sold to a new veterinarian who has a more "natural" view. She advised us to switch to raw foods, goat's milk, and schedule a B12 shot. She also recommended anesthesia-free dental cleanings. If you're into that kind of veterinary practice, then this place is for you. But I feel I should have been warned on making an appointment that our prior vet had left and that a very different philosophy is being practiced. read more

Very disappointed. I wanted to like this vet because they're close to where I live. They also easily took my dog in for a somewhat emergency appointment, which I appreciate, but that's about as good as it gets. I regret going here and I'm afraid they put my dog at more risk. For my first visit it was an emergency and I had to go to work but my boyfriend would pick him up, and he doesn't have a car. I decided to leave his leash behind as most vets I've been to have been in LA and they usually do not want me to keep my dogs harness or leash on, they almost always put their own slip leash on him. This vet provided no slip leash. That would be fine if it's not their normal practice, but I find it a bit shocking they didn't even have one available at all just in case? Those leashes are like $2! Even if they didn't have a $2 slip leash he did have a collar on so that would've been another option. But of course that's not the worst... He was seen for an abrasion / ulcer on his eye. They talked on the phone to my dad and told him my dog only needed a cone "if he starts to scratch it." They told my boyfriend who picked him up that he didn't need a cone AT ALL. My boyfriend even had a cone with him and asked "do I need this?" and the employee told him "no need." Meanwhile any other vet will tell you it's VERY IMPORTANT to have a cone on any dog with an eye injury. Insane. They also brought my dog out with no leash (as previously stated) and he almost ran into the street out of excitement. It got worse for the follow up, which I was at least more prepared for leash-wise. When I arrived for my appointment I told them where I was and it took them over 15 minutes to finally come out. The woman who came to get my dog said she couldn't find me even though I told the guy on the phone I was at the front, he didn't ask me to move to the back. That miscommunication is a red flag to me. I don't care if you're short staffed because your industry pays crap wages (big FACT). They said his visit would be 30 minutes so I waited around. After 30 minutes they called to run down what they would be doing and attempt to up sell me on more junk than any vet has ever tried to up sell me on in my life. They wanted me to buy the following junk: 1. Acupuncture 2. Some kind of collar I've never heard of that would "reduce inflammation" and was $300 3. Dental cleaning The dental cleaning isn't so bad but unnecessary at the time and they actually tried to up sell it to me later on the same visit. The most up selling any vet from the past has ever attempted with me is just flea medication. I'm not some rich idiot that can afford a $300 snake oil collar on the spot. And while acupuncture sounds nice, it doesn't seem like what my dog needed at the time. Especially from a vet who doesn't think you need to put an e collar on a dog with an eye injury. When it was finally time to pick him up they called and tried to upsell me on some "homeopathic eye drops" despite already being sold two different eye drops four days before this visit. They offered to take my credit card number over the phone or in person. I opted for in person but when I got there they just TOOK IT OVER THE PHONE OUTSIDE. I really would've preferred to give it over the phone at home had I known they wouldn't be physically taking my card and would instead be forcing me to read my card number out loud in public. Also when I got there I called and said I was there for my dog, the receptionist said "alright" and immediately hung up on me. They called for the credit card number 15 minutes later. They also told me I should "schedule a follow up next week but you don't have to do it now" - maybe they could tell I didn't want to come back? My dog's eye was also looking much better UNTIL this second visit and then he would not stop squinting! I've since taken my dog to a specialist and they diagnosed him with dry eye which I honestly think was somehow caused by my second visit to this vet. He did not have a squinting problem until my second visit with them and they certainly didn't notice the dry eye. I'll never go back to this vet unless they make massive changes. Right now I feel like they intentionally told us to not bother with an e collar because they wanted to milk more money from us. Hard not to think that considering all the relentless up selling. Another thing to note - their parking lot only has three available space and if you don't have a small car you will have a difficult time as there's a huge RV parked behind the customer parking. Forget about the lot entirely too if they have one customer park to crooked in the middle spot. read more

Mis-diagnosed our dog with hypothyroidism and prescribed medicine and charged me for a follow-up visit in advance (which I had to ask to remove from the bill). Went to another vet and they said the results from Foothill tests showed our dog was well within normal range for his thyroid. Why would they mis-diagnose? Make money off meds and visits? My minpin used to see Dr. Rittenberg years ago and he was great but I switched over to a new vet that was closer to home and that vet has now retired. My dog developed an anal gland abscess in what I felt was just overnight. We discovered it in the early hours of a Saturday morning and my now retired vet's office was not open on the weekends. I contemplated taking my dog to the pet ER but was told the wait would be hours due to COVID so I gave Foothill pet hospital a call as soon as they opened and they took me in within 30 minutes. The gal on the phone was super helpful and understanding of our situation and I appreciated her kindness. The techs that greeted us outside were great and efficient. My dog was treated by Dr. Overskei and my only complaint was that his 'bedside manner' could use some adjusting. I asked one question and he let out a huge sigh over the phone as if I was wasting his time and it was a huge turn off. He treated and fixed my dog (it's been a little over a week since we were there) so that's all really matters to me hence the 5 stars so I'm not going to waste my energy on his attitude but someone else might. Last note is that I felt the prices were very reasonable. With the cost of the visit, pain meds, take home medication, etc my total was $300 which is way cheaper than if I took him to the ER. read more

I moved back to Santa Barbara during Covid because I lost my job. My cat has been throwing up all her food for 4 days and I was extremely worried. I adore my cats, I rescued this one when she was about a week old with her brother and have had them for 9 years. They called me and told me that the x-ray was going to cost $600, the IV fluid was going to cost $200 and to watch her was going to cost another $200. On top of all sorts of other charges. I hung up sobbing because I can't afford that, but figured out a way to at least get the X-ray done so I can see what I was dealing with. When I called back to tell them that, the man who answered the phone said "you do realize your cat is in pain and lethargic right? You really need to do something about this". I LOST it. I hung up the phone and had a full fledged panic attack. I ended up calling back while I was having the panic attack and telling them to stop, I was coming to get my cat. We are driving an hour and a half away to Atascadero Pet Hospital. At least they understand that you can have things happen in your life, and still be distraught about your animal and want to do the best you can for them. Just to point out the differences: I called Foothill on Saturday - they originally booked me for Wednesday for my cat that isn't eating. They called back to book me for Monday. I called Atascadero today and they told me they are fully booked, but they will fit Sophie in, because they want to make sure she is okay. Foothill also told me there wasn't going to be a charge when I came to pick up Sophie, then came out and charge me $68 for looking her over. Which is fine, but with everything else that happened, that is just the cherry on top. Thanks for the panic attacks Foothill. If my cat makes it, it won't be because of you. read more

Everything about the Foothill Animal Hospital is first-rate. Robert and the rest of the staff are friendly, professional, and compassionate. Dr. Rittenberg is thorough, realistic, and has a wonderful "petside" manner. I never felt rushed, and he was very detailed in his explanations of the many options available to me. Fortunately, I am able to spring for the full battery of tests and treatments I chose for my senior kitty; but I was also offered, 100% without judgement, other options that would not wipe out my savings, had there been financial concerns. This was what I appreciated most, having once been a starving college student made to feel very guilty about not being able to afford the "recommended" treatment for my pet. A big bonus, is separate entrances and waiting rooms for cats and dogs--something I'd never seen before in all my years of pet parenthood. read more

I have had a relationship with this facility and Dr. Rittenberg since shortly after he became the Chief Veterinarian at Foothill Pet Hospital. Over the years he has seen and treated 4 of my family's animals and I have paid premium fees in support of his practice. On October 2, 2018 I contacted his office to ensure Sentinel and NexGard would be ready for pick-up for my Aussie. One of his staff members failed to clarify the reason why I now needed to bring my dog into Foothill Pet Hospital to "be seen". I objected to the request because it's the same one they made before I picked up the last dose for my dog. I asked the staff member to have Dr. Rittenberg contact me directly to explain this policy. What I received instead was a voicemail from Emily, a staff technician, who was patronizing in tone and refuted that I brought my dog into the office as they requested the last time I wanted my Aussie's prescription refilled. In her voicemail conclusion, she said she was, "sorry I did not understand the law". On October 3, 2018 I telephoned Emily and explained that I did not agree with her record of office visits for my dog. But she countered that I had visited in February but it was for "vaccines". She displayed no empathy and was completely unwilling to concede that the previous office visit was indeed to meet the requirement of seeing my Aussie within 1 year to refill his prescription AND for vaccines. A reasonable consumer understands that an office visit where a fresh prescription is dispensed is an office visit for that purpose. The office visit also included vaccines but according to her contention the vaccines were the only purpose for my dog's last visit. I advised her that I will file a complaint to the California Veterinary Board for breach of ethics and the California Department of Consumer Affairs for over-billing practices. read more

The final straw was their gross misinformation cluster #%^* when my dog was in need of emergency care to fix a puncture in her throat today. I can't believe I was naive enough to take my dog back after the Vet at AVS emergency hospital discovered it was a cancerous tumor causing his problems. Though my dog had been going there for over a year and has been seen by three different vets, all who misdiagnosed his cancerous tumor as IBS and/or allergies. I have never been so rudely treated by a Vet(s). Every other Vet/animal hospital that I have taken my dog to has had the compassion and taken the time to talk or now during plandemic, have called me. My poor dog has cancer and Dr. McCorkle refuses to be bothered with a simple phone call or releasing notes/recommendations for any kind of treatment plan. She also insisted on two occasions that my dogs teeth were in real bad shape and needed teeth cleaning right away... Even though my dog had recently had his teeth cleaned, I agreed to the treatment. The notes from the Canine Dentist stated that he had healthy gums and teeth! The only saving grace in this place is the Vet Tech named Wyatt. I imagine he'll be scooped up by a better Veterinary Hospital soon. He is compassionate, patient and intelligent. read more

I've had three pets as patients of Foothill Pet hospital for the past 13 years and they've definitely lost me as a client and will never have my trust in them with my pets. The new owners don't seem to have a handle on what's happening there since they are only there one day a week, nor do they seem to care. My 4 year old husky/lab became ill on Tuesday morning 1/12/21. She didn't want to get up and or bear weight on her rear right leg. I let her rest but she was really lethargic the remainder of the day. I called FPH and they weren't seeing patients that day, so I scheduled for the following morning. That evening I ended up at an Emergency pet hospital, where they said she had a low fever, pain and swelling in that rear ankle and the front left wrist. They recommended starting with a tick snap test and CBC panel. They also recommended aspirating her joints to test the fluid in them for auto-immune diseases. We ran the snap test and it was negative and her bloodwork fine. I decided to wait on aspirating her joints so that I could follow up with her vet the following day at the scheduled appointment. On Wednesday I took her in and Dr Done said that she still had a fever and was dehydrated. She suggested an IV of fluids, non-steroidal injection for inflammation and possibly x-rays, but she said not to do that now because she seemed to be presenting pain in other joints from what she displayed the night before and I would need to do several x-rays and she didn't think it was worth it at the time. So we did the IV of fluids and injection. That morning when I dropped her off, she pooped outside Foothill pet hospital so I gave it to them to test, since she had drank creek water up Jesusita trail the day before. The tech that took her back said that was a good idea and took the stool to Dr Done. The stool sample was never tested! They asked that I bring her back the next day for another IV of fluids. I took her back on Thursday and that day she saw Dr Ofesprey (?). He called me to go over what had been taking place only to cut me off halfway through my explanation and tells me he's going to check with their internist and get back to me. I asked him if he wanted to let me finish telling him what was taking place and he said no, I'll call you back. Later an assistant called me back and informed me that they wanted to do a more comprehensive tick test. Every question that I had, she put me on hold to ask Dr O! I said, "wouldn't it be easier if I talked to the dr directly?" She never put me through to the Dr. We went ahead with the next tick test, which I was told I would have the results in 2-3 days. The following day, Friday 1/15 my dog was getting worse. She didn't want to get up at all and hadn't even gone out to go to the bathroom or eat. So I called FPH to talk to a vet. No one returned my call. I called again on Saturday, no vet returned my call. Mind you I am actually speaking to someone at their office, so I am leaving messages with a live person! I also asked that the owner and vet my dog had seen previously, Dr. McCorkle call me to discuss her treatments. No call back. I called again on Monday again requesting to talk to Dr. McCorkle and was told that she was booked all day and not in again until the following Monday, so that is when she could call me! WHAT? One week later? They also said that in their opinion she is spread too thin between her other practice and this one! Well then she shouldn't have two practices, especially if she's only at this one one day a week and can't talk to her patients owners! Now I am getting upset! My dog is getting worse by the day and her vets won't call me back, recommend other ideas, tests, nothing! And the test results weren't in yet! I called again Tuesday, no test results, no vet call. On Wednesday I called again and was told by the manager to bring her back in for fluids, six days later someone (not a vet) makes a recommendation! Wednesday afternoon Dr Done called and suggested I see a specialist and that they were unable to help her! Again, ONE WEEK LATER! Why didn't they suggest that on Friday? I told her that I am sure Dr. McCorkle will respond once I give my review! Then the next day Dr O called and tried back-peddling and trying to give some advice! Thank you but no thank you. 7 days later isn't patient care! It is the opposite! Non-patient care! I will never set foot in their office again. They even charged me for items that I didn't approve, which I have now received a refund for. They don't seem to care or have the time that it takes to properly care for your animals. Your animals that are like your children. You love them, would do anything for them and they are your companions. Especially in times like these. Oh and still no call from the owners! Although I took my pet there cause he was limping, I was surprised that the vet didn't check my pets ear or temp. But she was very thorough on examining my pet for the cause of limping. Wow. What a waste of time. I had scheduled an appt for my dog a week in advance and I get a call the day before to reschedule for Thursday instead of Wednesday, thankfully I was available and that worked. Then I told them already while making the appt that my dog was not friendly with other dogs and they did not plan for that at all so I had to wait 30 min outside for them to clear the dogs out of the waiting room. Once I get in, one of the vets BRINGS A DOG into the waiting room and lets the dog get nose to nose with my dog. Very unsafe and unprofessional. THEN they take me into a room and tell me the vet is on lunch so they wanted me to leave my dog and pick him up later when they just let another dog get into the same room with him, not gonna leave my dog somewhere that can't even secure a room for him safely. I told them no and she said we have to reschedule after I waited 30 min, had a dog come into the same room as my dog, and they already had rescheduled with me the day prior. never going back, huge waste of time read more

After a disappointed trip to visit a vet in Thousand Oaks, I wasn't expecting much...but still wanted to see if a veterinarian could help out my Hammy. I saw Dr. Rittenberg and was blown away by his thorough exam and the care he showed for my little boy! Dr. Rittenberg measured all the growths on my Hammy, and even noticed a particular spot on his tummy that I never saw. I put my Hammy on meds, which helped clear up his gunky eye... The exam was SO worth my money! And that's saying a lot, coming from a college student..lol. Anyways-- Hammy has since passed away (RIP), but I will recommend Dr. Rittenberg to any of my friends who care about good quality care for their fur-babies. :) read more

Great things about Foothill Pet Hospital: -Their office is right off Hwy. 101, it's clean, there is ample parking and a they have a nice green lawn out front. -When we make an appointment we never have to wait very long to be seen. -Dr. Rittenberg is patient and calm with our shy dog. -Dr. Rittenberg never tries to rush the appointment, and he always explains every option in case you're on a budget. Dr. Rittenberg is thorough and knowledgeable. When we went in because our dog went into shock after a bee sting, he noticed an area Sam had been licking on his paw where the hair was almost gone. We thought it was allergies or a "hot spot" but Dr. Rittenberg thought it was Demodex mites and sure enough he was right. We were happy he caught it before they spread. I'm not sure how their prices compare to other vets in the area, but I do know that your pet will be well taken care of at Foothill. read more

I'm going to have to say that my visit to Foothill Pet Hospital was the most pleasant veterinary experience of my puppy's entire six-month existence. The exam rooms were very clean and there were no mug-rings on the exam tables, the guy at the front desk was super-nice to my scared little puppy, and, most importantly, nobody called my little man a "she". Beyond the comparative excellence of Foothill Pet Hospital compared to the other places I have visited, Dr. Rittenberg was super-nice and very knowledgeable about all of the most recent pet-care advancements (heartworm preventatives, flea control, canine influenza vaccines, etc.). Due to the fact that I don't like to see my beautiful little boy in pain, I hope I don't have to visit too often. However, if my puppy (or soon-to-be dog) is sick or in need of some veterinary attention, I certainly would not hesitate about bringing him to Foothill Pet Hospital. read more

I brought my leopard gecko here, he had a bump under his tail that was obviously swollen, so had to take him to the closet vet. I paid $70 for them to tell me that he had a bump under his tail and that it was swollen. hello??? that's why I brought him here. They recommended me to go to a different vet an hour away. Waste of time, waste of money and only put my animal through more stress. If you're debating wether to go to this vet, don't. It's worth the drive somewhere else. read more

The only reason this place has so many stars is because the reviews are about Dr. Rittenberg! Read the reviews about the current vets! Dr Rittenburg retired and there are new vets from LA- they aren't locals. I cannot begin to explain how upset I am and I ultimately left their service. I thought I was making appointment to see Dr. Rittenberg and when I showed up a different vet walked in and I was so shocked! First of all she kept calling my dog the wrong breed and I was shocked because she said she was a vet. I have a purebred who is very looking particular breed, and it was very clearly not the breed she kept saying it was even though I corrected her. She did not listen to any of my concerns or answer any of my questions, they took my dog into the back and I was not able to be with her which I absolutely hate. The vet kept telling me to get acupuncture for my dog when I said I wasn't interested she was obviously annoyed that I wasn't interested in getting extra services and then criticized me for the type of dog food I was using. I was not there to ask questions about dog food, she didn't even answer the questions that I came in with.They way up charged me and then charged me for a full set of medicine and then told me to come back when the others came in stock, they never called me and I waited for almost a year until I finally called them to demand the rest of the pills. They never once apologized for not contacting me when the pills came back into stock and did not seem to notice how upset I was at all. I was so upset over the phone I was in tears, do not go to these people, they are not locals and they do not know what they're doing. read more

We love our vet! Buddy is always taken care of and he loves going! Mary is his absolute favorite vet student and we trust her with our pup.

Dr. Rittenberg was the only vet who was willing and able to see our special needs rescue bunnies on short notice and his wonderful Assistant Robert, made room for us in Dr. Rittenberg's schedule to see them on short notice. Dr. Rittenberg was extremely kind, patient and professional and laid out different options for a rather complex issue with bunny Fluffy This suffered a serious injury and now is already doing much better after two doses of 5 meds she needs to be on for a few weeks. It's amazing! I have a lot of experience with vets as we've always had animals, big and small and we really like him and so did my baby bunnies. I would highly recommend him and he is reasonable. I have never written a review on a veterinarian before, but my experience here led me to feel the need to. I have always used La Cumbre Animal Hospital, but needed an earlier appointment for my dog than they could set up, so I went with Foothill. I just moved back to the United States with my dog, and knew he was developing an ear infection, so I wanted to take care of right away. Long story short, I walked away from this vet appointment with an over $500 bill. I completely trusted the vet and her treatment plan, which I regret. While I do think she is knowledgeable, especially holistically, I felt that so many extra treatments were pushed on me. In going home and going over everything I paid for, I realized that $300 worth of what I paid for was not necessary (the ear medicine and lab test was absolutely necessary). Furthermore, the clinic did not call me to tell me the results of the ear test I paid over $200 for. After waiting a week for them to call me, I called them and was told the vet would call me back to discuss results. The vet never called back, and I was instead told to come in for an appointment to discuss the results. I told them I was going to be using a different vet going forward and was finally told that my dog had a staph infection in his ear. It was clear to me that they just wanted to get me in the office to pay for more things, because they should have still called me to discuss results. Overall, it just felt like this clinic wanted to make money and take advantage of less knowledgeable clients (I take ownership for trusting too soon and not talking time to research everything before paying.) My advice when going to this clinic is to be very intentional about what you are needing from the appointment. While you ultimately do consent to everything being done to your pet, you can easily be led to believe all treatments are necessary when they're not. I entered this experience thinking I could trust the vet to focus on the needs of my pet vs. taking advantage of me, but I was wrong. UNPROFESSIONAL STAFF, BE AWARE It appears that after practice was purchased by new vets about a year ago service went down. Sharing my experience at Foothill Pet Hospital, so that you know what to expect when you have a sick pet. While I was struggling in front of the door for about 10 minutes to get my 100lb scared and very sick puppy nobody came out. The fellow patient has been of support and tried to help. Eventually one of the patients went over to ask for help. A technician came out but did not move a finger to help. Just as I got a firm hold of my dog to make a final throw in the door, she closed the door in front of me. After, been breathless, I got inside and was given papers to fill out. They literally forgot about me at the reception for a good 20 minutes and a receptionist was surprised to discover my papers on the counter and realize somebody was there. After another good wait, I was invited to the room. So I grab my scared 100lb and huffing and puffing I make my way to the examining room, thinking this is the last final push. In about 5-10 minutes of another wait, the receptionist returns and tells me I need to go back to the reception area to make the initial payment for the visit!! Leaving scared pup in the room by himself was not an option, I did not have the energy for pulling him all the way back to the reception area. Arguing that I've been in the reception area for good 30 minutes and they had plenty of opportunities to process the charges did not work, so in this case, let's charge later after examination, the receptionist went out. Then the technician mentioned earlier came back and said that I need to leave since I was refusing to pay prior to examination! Naturally, I did so and happily found another clinic. I did not see any of the doctors, but if you ever go there be ready to face very unprofessional staff. read more

I'd been taking my pet rats to quite a few other vets before finding Foothill Pet Hospital and I can't believe I ever trusted anyone else to care for them. The Dr. is so gentle, thorough and knowledgeable. I would recommend him to anyone who wants a vet who truly cares about your pet and you. read more

Not ever going back. Talks about 20 options and Doctor R talks on and on w no clear plan. Does not listen to patients requests and says go to AVS all the time. Waste of $ and time. read more

Dr. Rittenberg and the staff at Foothill Pet Hospital have always been stellar. He's always paid great attention to my kitties and has helped me learn to recognize signs of illness in cats. He is also very understanding of the financial strain a large pet medical bill can cause and works with you to come up with the most cost-effective plan to treat your pets. Sadly, one of my little girls passed away due to a sudden illness. After taking her to the emergency pet hospital (Care Hospital which I do NOT recommend), his office called me first thing the following morning to ask if she had made it through the night - they had received the medical records from Care. When I told them that sadly, no she hadn't, they expressed their extreme condolences and said that, in all honesty, it was a miracle she had lasted long enough to even see the other vet. Their sympathies and kindness during that difficult time will not be forgotten. read more
