I found Adrian through some desk research since I have a specific need to learn the Argentinian dialect and pronunciation. In the 4 sessions that I have had with Adrian, I can already tell that I am comprehending more when I watch Argentinian movies and my ability to speak is more fluent and I am picking up a lot of the slang that I was previously unable to understand. I came in at an intermediate level (so you should know that), and it's been years since I have studied Spanish, but he's working with me 1:1 using a mix of textbook, worksheets/homework, and some books that I have about Argentinian colloquialisms. We do an hour of review of vocabulary and grammar and then 30 minutes of conversation where he teaches me the slang I need to know (but most likely cannot use haha). I really enjoy our sessions and he's very patient with me and working with my work schedule to fit me in later in the day (also very centrally located near all mass transit). He's a great teacher, breaks things down in a way that is easy to understand and retain. I am very lucky to have found someone who can help me with my specific language needs and I already feel like it's paying off after only 4 lessons. I've taken Spanish classes from Adrian off and on for the past ten years. I am a first generation Colombian American who was not raised as a Native speaker. I was never comfortable with grammar, and very much wanted to improve my polish. Adrian is an excellent, thorough, incisive, and exceptionally organized instructor. I came to him through a friend's recommendation and it has been simply wonderful. He tailors the classes according to your need, skill, and progression. If you quickly understand a concept, he proceeds faster; If an idea is slower for you to grasp, he forces (which is so necessary to break through) you to wrestle with the topic - via more conversational practice, explanations, and homework - until you are comfortable. I have seen marked improvement in my Spanish in the time I have worked with him. Sometimes we stray from the lessons to work on conversational Spanish if I've returned from a trip. It works as another way of assessing how easily I can discuss concepts we've learned and discussed. I have taken many language classes in my life but this one with Adrian has truly been one of the best experiences of them all. I spent more than a year in his classroom, only had to stop because my work hours wouldn't allow me to continue. If you really want to learn Spanish, sign up for classes with him. It is intense, you really get the bang for your buck. The 90 minutes are probably worth 3 hours. Adrian believes in the concept of "muscle memory" applied to the brain. You repeat, you relax, you repeat, until it is imprinted in your brain. Classes are a great mix of vocabulary, grammar, history, geography, and conversation. Adrian will challenge you but if you really want to learn a language and get the best for your money, go sign up with him. I have been taking advanced conversation classes with Adrian over the past 6 months. I use Spanish at work and prior to signing up, my coversations with clients were very limited. Now, I'm able to conduct meetings in Spanish and I feel so much more comfortable. What I like about Adiran is that he's very flexible. I travel a lot for work, so my schedule (days and hours) can look different every week. Adrian accommodates that. We also practice the type of Spanish I use at work, which is great. Prior to finding Adrian, I used to take group classes at one of the schools in NY. However, the topics were fairly general (not tailored to business) and due to a large number of students in class I did not get to practice a lot. I took Spanish classes in high school and college, but after only a few years without practicing I had lost most of my ability to speak and understand even basic Spanish. I was struggling to get anything out of the apps you can download for language learning, so several months ago I began meeting with Adrian. Within a few sessions I had shaken off the rust and recalled lots of the basics. Other areas have required more time and focus. When you consistently make a mistake in a certain area, Adrian will return to it again and again until he feels you have it down. I definitely recommend taking Spanish classes in New York with Adrian Gonzalez. He acts out the scenarios so that you laugh and have fun while you learn Spanish. He is very expressive and energetic, so the time flies by, but you are learning and speaking every minute. He slows down and patiently explains differences in the languages and what things mean. He is professional, educated, and knowledgeable about how we acquire the language. His experience and personality make learning Spanish easier. He gives you exercises to practice for homework and goes over it slowly. Adrian is a fantastic and wonderful teacher! He is very good at figuring out your current level of Spanish (assuming you have previous experience) and moving on from there. My progress has been incredible by going to his classes; I hadn't been in a Spanish learning environment since high school. I couldn't speak more than 3 to 4 word sentences and I definitely could not listen to someone responding to me. I feel much more confident in my conversational abilities even if I'm still slow at speaking. Adrian facilitates your learning, but you have to put in the work to see results.
