But after two months, the opening wouldn't heal, the antibiotics she prescribed me did not reduce the lump at all, and there was no bacteria found in the lab testing, I started to question whether I actually had mastitis. But Dr. Mardi Karini would not listen to me at all. She was very certain her initial diagnosis was right despite the evidences. Three months after I had the lump, I finally did a core biopsy to confirm that the lump was granulamatous mastitis, a rare disease that's oftentimes associated with autoimmune causes. After the biopsy confirmed that her initial diagnosis was wrong, I was transferred to a different doctor, and I never saw or heard from Dr. Mardi Karin again. During the three months that I saw Dr. Mardi Karin, I had eight office visits with her in total. Every time, she rushed in and out within 10-15 minutes. She always appeared to be confident and knew what she was doing. But when I shared how my body felt with her, I didn't think she was listening. I had a feeling that she did not like to be challenged when the evidence did not fit with her judgement, or facing a new disease that she was not familiar with. It was a traumatizing experience for me. The disease itself was very painful, but on top of that, being misdiagnosed, having an open wound that wouldn't heal for months, being medicated for a wrong diagnosis that destroyed my gut health, and being treated as if my feelings didn't matter all made the experience even worse. Reading some of the other reviews, it seems that Dr. Mardi Karin was good at other aspects. But based on my own experience, she seemed to be different when facing uncertain situations.

One thing that made me particularly uncomfortable is when Dr. Karin grabbed at my stomach "to see if there's a little something extra" (for a type of procedure I told her I am not at all interested in). She also delayed my next care steps unnecessarily. But I think the strangest thing to me is that she discouraged me from looking into another type of procedure, because *she doesn't understand how it works*. Clearly it works somehow because other surgeons do it, but since she doesn't understand it, she recommends against it... that is the action of a self-interested salesperson, not someone who cares about the best interest of the patient. Btw she may say sensation cannot be preserved in a mastectomy, but Dr. Dung Nguyen at Stanford does nerve grafts.

He and his staff were outstanding in all capacities as I navigated my way through an understandably difficult time . Both his professional and personal attitude helped me through all the questions and concerns I had , and for that I and my family will always be grateful. He performed my surgery with incredible skill , and was able to save my kidney. I highly recommend this incredibly capable man and his staff . Thanks again for everything Dr Ngo .

There are potential quality of life issues, lots of YouTube info and individual results vary...so my results are my results. I have had 100% bladder control since the catheter was removed on December 19, 2024. There are zero issues with any incontinence or ED side effects post surgery; an unexpected but pleasant outcome. Healing of incisions area is progressing, as is internal abdominal sensations. Pain from any coughing is now zero. No issues coughing, sneezing, standing or bending over. I hope everyone that has to go through this process could have similar results. My experience with Dr Ngo and prostrate surgery was excellent.

I chose this location first, and there was an appointment available for the day I have off. This is located near Good Samaritan Hospital. It's a side street off from where the hospital is located near Bascom Ave. The building is located towards the end of the street on the left in a peach building with a parking lot. I arrived 15 mins early for my mammogram appointment. There were no other patients. Signed in and waited about 5 minutes before I was assisted with the paperwork. Sat back down and waited for the tech. Waited another 5 minutes and was helped 10 mins passed my appt. The waiting area is big, roomy, bright, and very clean. The exam room was roomy, and the gown given to wear was warm. The front reptionist and tech were friendly. I felt like they were very clear on their policy and procedure when explaining it to me. The tech was knowledgeable and knew what she was doing She was gently in helping get situated for my exam. The entire exam took about 10 minutes. Overall, it was not a bad experience for my first time here.

A few months later, I received a bill from Good Samaritan Breast Care Center for $2,144.00 for the mammogram. They said it was not covered by my insurance, and so I was responsible for the bill. Had my insurance paid the bill, they would have paid the negotiated rate of $128.25. I called the billing dept and asked what the procedure would cost if I was a self-pay patient, and not using insurance. They told me it would be $150. I told them I would pay $150 for the procedure, but they insisted that I needed to pay them $2,144.00. Can you imagine how many women would get mammograms if they had to pay this price? This is highly unethical.

After the procedure, I developed an infection, and Dr. Lilja was not available for postoperative care. I was seen by another doctor and had to insist multiple times before receiving appropriate treatment. I was later informed that the fibroids were not removed and that I should begin hormonal therapy, which I had already expressed I was not comfortable with. At the next follow‑up, Dr. Lilja recommended another surgery, but after a difficult first experience, I needed time to consider my options. About a month later, I received a letter stating that I would no longer be accepted as a patient at their office. Although I had already decided not to return, the lack of postoperative support and the abrupt discontinuation of care were very disappointing. Based on my experience, I do not recommend Dr. James Lilja and Bay Area Gynecology oncology center.
