My husband was diagnosed with Crohns. Dr Lin put him on a new medication. It was not working but Dr Lin refused to see him until he was on this medication for a week. By the time the appointment came, my husband was dehydrated, in shock, and had to go directly to the E. R. He was admitted and stayed in the hospital for a week. Dr Lin did not believe us when we called and said the medicine was not working. My husband could have died during that week. Get another doctor or at least a second opinion. read more

After he looked over my health records, and ask a few questions, I mentioned that I have a long list of questions for him. He proceed and let me know he's known to be thorough in his explanation and he'd like to go ahead first and see if I had any questions remaining after. To be honest, I was very skeptical. But he proved me wrong, after his thorough explanation, not only he answered all my questions, I learned a lot more from him! I was a patient of Dr. Lin several years ago. I liked his friendly demeanor, the way he explained everything and he performed an endoscopy on me that went very smoothly. Fast forward 5 years down the line, I am again in need of a GI doctor but could not find Dr. Lin's name listed on our insurance list of providers. So I called his office to ask if he was still part of our insurance network. Well, his secretary was so incredibly standoffish and rude. She would not say if he was part of our insurance network or not and told me to call my insurance to find out. I called several other GI doctor's offices asking the same question and their staff were polite enough to at least say "yes we are" or "no we are not in your insurance network". How do you NOT know what insurance network your office is a part of? This is the type of paperwork they process day in and day out and to plead ignorance shows complete disinterest on their part. And it is the MANNER in which they do it that also makes a difference. To me what is most disheartening is that patients who call doctors offices are obviously not feeling well, and to be treated in such a demeaning manner is hurtful as well as infuriating. I have seen several similar complaints as mine, so to Dr. Lin (whom I believe is a good doctor) I suggest you sit and have a chat with your office staff about how they treat people who call your office. I will never recommend Dr Terry Lin to anybody. Plus I have so many questions for him, so many... 1) when you sent me to the Radiology for an Ultra Sound of my upper abdomen, I never understood why you failed to also recommend an Ultra Sound for my right groin, which was causing me severe pain? 2) Why you never returned my call, when I called you to ask, why you did not include an Ultra Sound for my right groin? 3) I never understood why I had to be obligated to Cindy from Dr. Coggins office (Heart Surgeon) to have her to authorize another visit to Radiology for an Ultra Sound for my right groin, which it was your job? 4) I did not understand why Leticia your secretary, rejected my request to go to Radiology Center at 555 Knowles Ave, with the excuse that their next opening was one month later and you sent me to 2581 Samaritan Dr. when Cindy found an opening for me, two days later at Knowles Ave. Does Leticia have a special reason to recommend patients to go only to Samaritan Dr.? 5) I never understood how you concluded that I had "Irritable Bowel Syndrome", since you did not show me any proof? By the way Dr. Balaa recommended an endoscopic examination which showed that I had an ulcer 6) Why you recommended to take Bentyl, since at that time I was taking heart medications and special Digoxin? I found out that Bentyl and Digoxin should not be taken together. When I was taken Bentyl I had cramps in my abdomen for twenty minutes after each bowel movement. 7) Why did you want me, to come again to your office, since I knew you had given me wrong diagnosis and wrong medications? You charged my insurance for $680.00 for a superficial diagnosis 8) Is this the Hippocratic Oath you took, to send your patients faster to their grave? 9) Is this because of lack of compassion and you see us, nothing more but numbers that we will make you wealthy one day? In my opinion Dr. Balaa saved my life. If I hade not gone for a second opinion, I would still be seriously ill I did not pay my co-payments to you, because according to my insurance plan, I had reached my limit of $3,500.00 for 2012 (out of my pocket) and my insurance would pay my co-payments till the end of the year. I brought the statement of the explanation from my insurance and you secretary made a copy of it. Meanwhile you sent me two bills. The first one was on 11-19-12 for $30.00 and the second one on 12-19-12 for another $30.00 for the two visits. When I called SCCIPA, I was told that they had paid you my co-payments of $60.00 on 11-19-12 with the check # 546801. 10) By the way, why you wanted another payment from me, since you have already received your money? Dr. Lin saved my life- literally. When every other doctor from PCPs, and GIs to ER staff gave up on me, Dr. Lin took on my case and kept fighting for me, promising me that we would get to the bottom of what was happening to me. He was successful and five years later I am still here and healthier than I have been since I was a teenager. Dr. Lin is extremely intelligent and he thinks on a different plane than any other physician I have experienced. I have set him to task many times over the years and instead of him scratching his head, I think he takes it as a challenge and goes to work. Dr. Lin is extremely thorough and informative. He makes sure that I know exactly what is happening, what is causing it and how I am to address it. The office staff is amazing, Laticia and Menay, are top notch. Very personable women and professional in their craft. Both have been advocates for me as well as on their game when I am in need. In closing, I've never had a doctor that made me feel like I was part of team. I feel safe in his care and get all my physician referrals through his office. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Lins for 10 years..I had liver disease that could have been my demise, however with much explanation and total truth from Dr. Lin he put me on some medication and although it was extremely tough to get thru the process, he supported and guided me through it all the way. Must be a good doc if you can get him to see you. I scheduled a procedure with him, done because it involved the OT. Which doctor does not like that... but when it came to the follow up it took me another 6 months to get him to see me. I asked the scheduler to tentatively book me for it while I looked for another doctor to see me as I still had issues. Long story short, after 6 months, my appointment came.. I missed it and am being asked to pay $50. Will gladly do but warning others of this practice. read more

Dr. Lin is very kind and detail. But I have very poor experience with his office staffs. After the consultation, the office lady scheduled me for the colonoscopy and told me they will call my pharmacy, CVS, to pick up Suprep. After 3 calls and 11days, CVS has never got the order from Dr. Lin's office. As I had a flu and called to reschedule my colonoscopy appointment, again, Dr. Lin's office never called Silicon Valley Surgery Center to reschedule the appointment accordingly. My father, who has terminal cancer, was treated by Dr Lin and he was speaking with my uncle about my fathers situation but my uncle told him he needed call me since I hold power of attorney for my fathers medical decisions. He got really irritated and had the nerve to tell my uncle with an attitude "I don't have time to call anyone who isn't here." I get that his time is precious but come on. Dr. Terry Lin is a confident, thorough, respectful and kind doctor. I was very fortunate to have him perform my emergency ERCP to remove a stone blocking my Liver Bile Duct. My GI doctor, called Dr. Lin to do the procedure, since he is the best in the area. Dr. Lin explained the procedure, drew a diagram of the issue and allowed me to ask questions. When the hospital delayed my procedure time, Dr. Lin personal came to my hospital room to apologize for the delay. After the procedure, he thoroughly explained what he encountered and the results. Dr. Terry Lin should not be allowed to interact with patients. My wife had been diagnosed through a CT scan with a mass on her pancreas. We were referred to Dr. Lin by our family physician because another procedure was required. Dr. Lin did not have the right equipment to perform the procedure and referred us to another physician. However during our visit he proceeded to tell us that based on his review of the CT scan the tumor was most likely malignant and inoperable. As it turned out he was wrong but in the meantime he told us that my wife had 6 months to live. The other procedure determined she was able to have surgery which has been performed and she now has a very good prognosis. Had we listened to him we might never continued on to have the other procedure performed.And his prediction would have become true. For what was in my opinion a meaningless consultation he billed our insurance company a significant amount of money. I also found his office staff difficult. read more

i really dug dr. lin. i had the complete opposite experience from Amy T. Dr. Lin was incredibly patient and spent a lot of time listing out all of the reasons that cause liver function tests to be irregular. he wrote all ten reasons down on the paper that they pull out over the examination table. it was incredibly informative, and i dug it, because i am a nerd for random knowledge. We determined that i did not have the most common reasons for concern, like hepatitis b/c, and i am not really a drinker. most of the other problems are rather obscure genetic issues, and a condition that tends to come on at menopause, as well as an auto-immune condition. He calmed me down, since my regular doctor had really freaked me out. he determined my most likely problem was a fatty liver, since i recently gained a fair amount of weight. he told me that it is unlikely that i would need treatment, other than getting exercise and losing weight. which i guess is a relief, now i just have to get my ass to the gym. He sent me across the st to good samaritan to get a blood test at the lab there, just in case i did have one of those weird genetic issues. All in all, a very positive experience. the nurse/assistant lady who took my blood pressure did not wear hospital scrubs, instead she wore regular clothes. They also use an old-school blood pressure hand pump, she said because it is more accurate than a digital one. the office waiting room is pretty inviting, it was not sterile feeling at all. they share it with one other specialist. I would definitely recommend dr. lin to others. read more

I do not recommend Dr Terry Lin. I went to him twice after having my gallbladder out and then being diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis. He first said irritable bowel although I had no symptoms of IBS. He then said SOD and recommended an ERCP which is highly dangerous in someone with pancreatitis. He did not listen to me about my symptoms, his diagnosis was wrong as well as procedure/tests. Educate yourself. Research using reputable websites or articles like JAMA, NEJM, Mayo, etc. learn about pros and cons before doing anything! read more

If you ever need a Colonoscopy an ERCP , a diagnostic and treatment procedure for a gold bladder stone that sits in the duct or to seal a leaky bail duct after the removal of your Gold bladder, remember Terry C. Lin D.O., INC. One day after my gold bladder removal excruciating pain broad me back on a Sunday to God Sam Hospital (A Great Place) ER. They diagnosed the leak and searched for an available specialist. When the name Terry C. Lin came up nurses and Dr alike light up in awe for the capability and dedication to his patients. The term "He is the Best" gave me hope. 30 min later my wife and I met Dr Lin- a young professional to the point man that instills confidence and trust in me and my wife. He explained the procedure in simple terms gave his kids coloring books and crayons and put a team together. The procedure was done quickly and I woke up very happy. Lin kept checking on me and investigated earlier colonoscopy results from a different Dr to ensure no additional colon issue. I do not remember a better Dr in my life. Dr. Lin stayed on Wednesday, December 10 until 10 PM after having done about 12 operations before me. He was extremely tired but he knew that he needed to do the endoscopy and the banding or I could lose another 4 pints of blood. The only thing he could say was I need to make sure that you're okay. If it wasn't for this doctor I would not be alive thanks to Dr. Lin. He was a very personable person came the very next day to make sure I was doing okay and explained everything to me. And while I was in the hospital he prescribed a stronger medication for the pain when he was trying to enjoy his Friday night off. Great Doctor! read more

A GI doctor was one of the last doctors I wanted to see. My doctor gave me a few referrals, and I sucked it up and made some calls. everyone was booking out super far. And pretty much every office said the same thing, "i'm sorry but we are book 3-4 months out." Dr. lin was one of the names on my list to call. After speaking with his receptionist about my issues, she placed me on a brief hold and when she came back, she told me taht she spoke with the doctor himself, and eh would be able to work me into the schedule before the holidays. (star #1) Checking in was easy and the wait was minimal. The recetionist was personable and kind. (star #2) The medical assistant called me back and asked me a bunch of questions and then answered a bunch of my questions without fluffing me off because they were too busy. (star#2) My appointment was after lunch, and the doctor was apparently doing his rounds on his hospital patients when I got there, he was a little delayed getting into the room, but the wait was not that bad, maybe 10 minutes or so, which was way shorter then most other doctors offices. He came rushing in and appologized for my time waiting. I was so happy to finally find a no nonsense doctor. He examined me, listened to my story, and then he told me what he thought of my symptoms and what tests he would like to run. His bedside manner may come across blunt, but I appreciate that in a doctor. (star # 4) He brought me out of the room to the scheduler and informed her what he wanted. Most offices have just sent me home and told me they would call me once everything is scheduled, but his scheduler did everything with me there to be sure nothing would conflict with my work schedule. It was a huge time saver. She was easy to work with and even helped me get a sooner appointment with my dermatologist.
